Honest, highly competent auto service center that puts most others to shame. After receiving diagnostics and a quote from one of the branded tire service centers, we moved our car to Areawide for Dave and his team to assess the situation. He ran the same diagnostics and determined that one assessment by the other guys was wrong. In effect, Areawide got us back on the road at a bit more than 25% of the cost of the branded tire center. A four figure repair was now a manageable three figures. Areawide is in this for the long haul, which is why we're entrusting him with our cars more and more. Shame on some of the others for misdiagnosis and misrepresentation. Chances are great you will avoid both at Areawide. read more

It's easy to get ripped off with auto repairs (did he really replace that part? was it really necessary? should it have taken that long?) so it is really important to find a place that you can trust, is competent and reasonably priced. Two out of three won't do. Areawide is all three. Dave, runs the place and will give you honest answers that you can trust. Scheduling is important but he gets you in and out quickly in the time promised. I have had bad experiences elsewhere and can tell some true horror stories. I have also compared prices on tires and service and they came out ahead every time. In 5 years with Areawide I have yet to be the least bit unhappy. In a word Areawide is 'Efficient'. I seriously cannot say enough good things about these people. Dave ( the owner) is as honest as they come. He will tell you what is going on with your vehicle and recommend what should be done...but he also will tell you what needs to be fixed now, what can wait, and what is not worth fixing. I have a toddler and when we arrive (even on our very first visit) he immediately changes the waiting room TV channel to PBS cartoons. He even had crackers for her the last time we visited. As a parent, the way to my heart is through my kid so to pay attention to her before any business takes place is the cherry on top of some exceptional service. Some years ago (at least 10 years ago) I stopped in at Areawide after exhausting my search for a shop to do a catalytic converter replace (for my Subaru Forester) at a price I wanted to pay. I never thought I would actually get a better price here but I did. That was the start of a long relationship with Dave and Andrew and the crew at Areawide. It's true that Dave stands out as a honest business man. He runs a clean (so clean) organized shop deftly. His pricing is very fair and he is objective in his recommendations about work that either needs to be done or 'should' be done. As a single woman, I am fairly car savvy, but I feel that with Dave and crew I can let my guard down a bit and just let them tell me what my old Forester needs to keep her running, and with a 210K miles history, she may not be the prettiest car on the road but she is surely a sound car and I feel safe driving her. Great honest service! They fix only what needs to be fixed and don't push unnecessary work. Dave will recommend what needs to be repaired now and what can wait to be fixed at a later date. This shop is slammed all the time(due to there honest, quality work) so making an appointment is important. The down side to that is, you may have to wait a few days to a week to get in. I used to fear taking my car into the shop more than going to the dentist. I had problems with previous mechanics suggesting repairs that didn't need to be done. Thankfully, since I've found Dave I know that I'm not going to get ripped off at his shop. He will be honest about what needs to be repaired and what can wait. I have known Dave for about 7 years, I have not needed his services until recently. My daughters 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue with 115,000 miles would not pass the emissions test. I took it to Dave and stated that we did not want to put a lot of money into the vehicle. Dave went out of his way to get the vehicle to pass the emission test. I am writing this review from Los Angeles...I am in the process of purchasing a vintage classic Mercedes-Benz from a dealer in Chicago. I needed to do a Pre Purchase Inspection on the car and found Areawide online. As you can imagine I was nervous about finding someone to look at this car on my behalf and tell me what type of condition it was in. Finding a mechanic that is trustworthy and honest (and skilled enough to catch ALL of the flaws) seemed impossible but Dave is amazing---he's like a unicorn. The car was in great condition (lucky me), but Dave really looked at every tiny detail of the car (noting that there was a small ding on the rear bumper that I had not previously been aware of, and even going so far as to note that the gear shift was slightly loose). He took the time to write up a report and email it to me, called me to discuss what he found, sent me photos, and overall I could not be happier with his work. His price for the inspection was also incredibly reasonable ($45). If I lived in Chicago, Dave would be my go-to mechanic all-year-long...he's fantastic! read more

Dave at Areawide was recommended to me by my Mom. For quite a while she bragged about how honest he was, and I somewhat dismissed it as "Mom can be easily charmed". Mom was vindicated when my car wouldn't start one day and I decided to give Dave a shot. My car was towed to him and after having it for a day and not being able to recreate the failure in his shop, he informed me that my battery posts were corroded, so he cleaned them, but that was all he could find wrong. From that day on, I was hooked. Dave could have convinced me that the failure was a result of a very expensive part failing, but instead, I left his shop with a nominal charge and a car that hasn't failed again since. I've been back to Dave several times since then for routine maintenance items and will not take my cars anywhere else.
