While visiting Fort Hood, it was recommended that I should try Arepitas out in Harker Heights. I was informed that the whole setting was nice and the food was terrific. Naturally, I looked up reviews on Google and Yelp to confirm and they were consistently in agreement with the recommender. The only real issue in the reviews was that some people had a problem with the time of service due to Arepitas being short staffed. They either hired on more workers or got faster because we did not experience any slowness in our order. In fact, the order was promptly taken and our food arrived quite quickly. It was good food and full servings. The server was very attentive almost to a fault; he checked in almost too frequently. He was very knowledgeable about the food, which was fine, but not necessary in our case. Arepitas is a great restaurant and a great choice. Definitely worth the visit. read more

I was taking my lover out for the first time since Covid. We ended coming here because the owners of our first choice were on vacation. We were also hesitant because although I had never been her, my lover was with friends at their old location and service was horrible. I can say that wasn't the case this time. Service was great if you forget about them explaining how they have had to raise their prices. That was a little akward. I had my first arepita and I enjoyed it. Oh my gosh, this restaurant is amazing! My husband and I have never had Venezuelan food before and it was absolutely delicious!! They have a take out window, so you can just order ahead and they will text you when it's ready to be picked up (tonight it was about 20 minutes) and it is worth every second of that wait! We didn't go in, but the staff we interacted with were all amazing and very friendly! The food is fresh and clearly made with love. We ordered the tostones, yum! My husband got the parrallita bowl with rice and I got the vegetarian arepa. It was so much food, and we still ate every single bite of it! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Delicious! A friend of mine introduced me to Arepitas and it is by far My favorite restaurant that I've been to in the temple-harker heights area. The food is consistently always on point. With the meat, vegg, and starch being cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service is always top notch and the drinks are fabulous! However, The sangria was nasty as it tasted old, i know this because the fruit tasted like it had begun to ferment in it. so I wouldn't recommend the sangria unless you know it's fresh. Other than that I'm never disappointed in the food or the service when I come here. The manager, Mario, said it had accidentally been brought to another table and due to COVID he took no chances and asked the kitchen to make a fresh order. Their arepas are fantastic! This type of food is hard to find, service was pretty fast as well. It should be noted that if you want an extra sauce like hot sauce it will cost an extra $0.75. The food here is good but they really need to streamline their process, a lot of the items on their menu are interchangeable in the sense that they all use a variation or two or more of the same ingredients. My train of thought is why not already begin cooking most of these items if your going to use them? The reason I say this is because boy is the wait long! The past 2 times I have tried to give this place a try it's been over 1 hour wait. The final time I called my order in and was told it would be ready in 35 min so I accepted. 35 min later I showed up to the restaurant to pick up my order and they had not even began to make it. This is unacceptable when you have children on a timed schedule. I feel that based on the cost being almost $20.00 for 2 arepas which contain simple ready made ingredients is not a good value given the time spent waiting. August 4, 2018: In response to the owners comments: Antonio never addressed me, the person who attended me was not a new employee, it was the same mature female that worked when they had their gas station location. In regards to made fresh, I remember when they used to be located at the gas station I could clearly see many items stored in tupperware such as the shredded beef as mentioned in his comments but also the Arepas being re-heated. And to further add, I guess based on Antonio's comments every other restaurant in the area including his neighbor Acropolis must serve "fast food style" food since they manage to have most orders ready in 30 min or less. Having spent some time in Caracas and many years in Miami I am not unfamiliar with Venezuelan food. Personally I believe an appropriate response would have been a simple apology for messing up an order rather than saying you spoke to me previously.
