This used to be our go to place for interesting foods. Now they have a surcharge for cleaning the tables for Covid19 prevention. Wonder how well they cleaned prior to Covid19? Another scam to get more money without raising prices? Antonio, the waiter told us when we were ready to order. He asked if we had heard about the Covid19 surcharge added to pricing in lieu of raising prices on menu items. Since it only amounted to a few dollars we stayed and ate. Let me start out by saying that my wife moved from Venezuela a few years ago. This were she goes to get a taste of home and if she doesnt want to make something herself and want me to try the food from her country. They do a great job have been there multiple time everytime it was good. My wife assures me that it is for the most part authentic. I look forward to eating here now. They have a great little spot in Harker Heights right next to an upscale neighborhood so you know that you dont have to got into a weird area like some many places in the Killeen area. They have a drive through window for pick-ups that I just discovered so that is awesome. Again Great environment and Great food. I was really excited about finding a restaurant that sold Venezuelan food. Arepas have been hyped up for me for awhile now and I really wanted to try one. Let me tell you. These are worth the hype. We ordered two types of empanadas (one with shredded beef and one called the "Pabellón", an arepa called the "Llanera", and a sandwich called the "Pepito". First of all, it was way too much food. You could probably eat two empanadas, or one arepa, or the sandwich as a meal. NOT ALL TOGETHER. Everything was sooo good though. The empanadas are fried. Not pastry style like many South American empanadas. The Pabellón had beans, cheese, and beef on the inside. They are amazing. Ask for the garlic sauce to go with it. LEGIT. The arepa had fresh avocado, sirloin steak, cheese, and that same garlic sauce. It was huge. I felt like I had to unhook my jaw to eat it. It was almost like a gordita if you are familiar with Mexican cuisine. It was waaaay more stuffed however. I did not try the sandwich but I was told that it was good. It had cheese, onions, potato sticks, chicken, steak, garlic sauce, and some cabbage. It was huge. Please pace yourself. This is our go to! My husband gets the Parrellita with Chicken, I get the Pabellon Bowl, and Our grand daughter gets a cheeseburger. The plates are Hugh, I have enough for 3 days, My husband has dinner and Lunch the next day! It's our Favorite!!! My only complaint is everything sounds so good, I can't decide which item to get!!! It took me like 15 minutes to decide what I wanted because everything looked so good.. I ended up going with the pabellón arepa. It is LARGE, juicy, and messy to eat but well worth it. If you're not that hungry I wouldn't suggest ordering anything else, beacuae you frankly will. Not. Finish. It. But the arepa was stuffed full of juicy, hearty, flavorful shredded beef, black beans, sweet perfectly cooked plantains, and cheese. Perfect blend of savory and sweet. The proper way to eat it is to pick it up in both hands and take a big bite! Definitely worth getting. ATMOSPHERE: Small, cozy a little modern. One of the workers mentioned they will be moving to a bigger space soon and plan on adding more to their menu! SERVICE: Great service, super friendly and knowledgeable about Venezuelan cuisine. They also offer help if you look like you're struggling to figure out exactly how to tackle these large areas. Arepitas is a great hidden gem in Harker Heights. The Venezuelan dishes are amazing and the food is extremely fresh/well-seasoned. The wait staff can get a little jumbled at times, but they're very friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. The menu features options for kids and adults, and while the dishes can get a little pricy ($15+) the amount of food you receive is comparable. The only downside is they have recently had some minor issues with seating due to short-staffing, but obviously that is a touch out of their control. Overall, Arepitas is a great restaurant that is perfect for the whole family. read more

Yayyyy, i finally made it here today!!! I was greeted with a friendly smile as soon as i walked in and so glad it wasn't that busy. But there was a big family at one of the table waiting for their food, so it might take awhile for my order.... The lady who took my order was nice enough to come to me and let me know that it will take 25 minutes for my order to be ready since there 2 orders in front of me. So, that was cool... I couldn't wait to get home and try my food. The beef empanada is good. The beef has good flavors and the breading is soft and fluffy. The tostones was delicious! Love the crunch of the plantains with the salad on top, great combination. I added some of the spicy sauce they have for the poblleno and it gave my tostones a little spiciness to it which was good! The poblleno was also good, you can taste a little sweetness of the plantains in each bite. Never had Venezuelan good before and i am so glad i tried Arepitas today's. Thanks to all the fellow yelpers for sharing their experiences!!!! I love their new location since it's closer for me. And i would probably be lost looking for the old one, lol . Went there yesterday, thinking they were a new place, but I see it just changed locations. We ordered three items: Cheese sticks: tasted very good and I liked the bread it was wrapped in. Nice dipping sauce, tasted a bit like a mix of mayo and ketchup. Four stars. My meal was the platter and it was great. Loved the presentation of the hot chicken and beef, the potatoes were great and the cheese and avocado on top were awesome. Loved the peppers and onions. I would recommend this all day long. Five stars. The Blonde sandwich was a disappointment overall. The chicken and sauce tasted good, and the corn bread was also nice, but on top was just a big pile of pre-shredded cheese that wasn't melted. It looked like the stuff you get in a package at the store. Nothing wrong with the taste but for eight bucks, it was a disappointment. Three stars. So overall four stars. Friendly service, and since I had not been there before, the staff was very nice in explaining the menu and helping in ordering.
