Ordered pasta and a side for lunch and the taste was good - the flavor was there and the portion of meat to pasta is right too. The veal meat is actually really fresh and soft, which is really pleasant to eat but the sauce is a little bit too much and the oil that is used to mix the sauce is a bit too much too, leaving the pasta more and more oily as time goes by. The brussels sprouts taste decent too but it is a little bit too soft for my liking- if it can be a little bit more crunchier, it will be better! read more

I had been to Aria's in the past but not during the pandemic. I had been there with some friends and I really liked it. This time I went alone and was seated immediately inside the restaurant after presenting my ID and vaccination card. I looked over the menu but in the meantime, hot Italian bread was brought to the table [delicious] along with EVOO and a glass of water. I looked at the wine list and ordered a glass of Merlot. For my entree, I ordered the tortellini d'aragosta but when it arrived, it was actually ravioli d'aragosta. No matter, it was delicious. I finished my meal and was asked about dessert, which I rarely order. I did decide on a double espresso which topped off the meal nicely. The wine list is pricey, so look it over carefully. A bottle may be cheaper if you are dining with others. It is a large space, clean and there is seating outside. With it getting colder, this may not be an option for many. To be honest this place is so incredibly sexy looking, the ambience for a date just checks off every single box. Our waiter was a nice, the whole staff was, but completely forgot to send our entire food order and forgot to bring me my wine. Still ended up charging me for my wine after I had to ask three different people for 30 minutes for it. Don't get me wrong, they did the right thing and sent a dessert. But at the end of the day we ordered six dishes and only two had good flavor. I'd go back solely for the lamb, which is cooked perfectly with an incredible balsamic sauce. The sauce on the vodka lobster raviolis was also wonderful, but the lobster had almost no flavor. The clams were so odd, to be honest my boyfriend who eats straight up random old things he finds in the refrigerator thought that they tasted weird. They were green and I believe it was a parsley sauce but there was no complexity in flavor and just felt like it was parsley with a sprinkle of rice shoved inside of a clam. The Cesar was great, the anchovies really balanced the flavor. The crabcakes came on a random bed of tomato mushroom and warm lettuce which was odd. I'm sad to say I found all the dishes pretty boring, even the truffle fungie pasta lacked flavor, there was almost no truffle. I will go back just to have some wine and some cheese and meat, and maybe the lamb and some olives to enjoy the ambience and super sweet staff. Very affordable and the energy of the restaurant is fantastic. Maybe I owe them a revisit... a second chance? The lamb deserves it at least! read more

I am a huge fan of Briciola. Aria (right across the street) is a sister restaurant that moved into the now closed Xai Xai from the same restauranteur. I come to Aria because it is larger, has the same menu, and serves hard liquor (Briciola is wine and beer only). However every time I've been there (I live close by so I get lazy), the service has been consistently slow. And the food oddly too salty. I dig salt, love all foods savory, but yea oddly too salty. Aria can be a great time too, I think, depending on your patience. Bring a date or a book. Not sure how service is with larger groups. At times the staff seem overwhelmed, sometimes they ignore you. I say this because every time I've been there I've noticed this to be the case. Like I said, I come here knowing what I'm walking into. I prefer to sit at their bar- it's got nice tiling and I find them to be more spacious than the tables depending on what you order. Just put your stare on and make eye contact with your bartender. I try to order everything up front so we can be left alone without complaint. The menu is great; tapas are awesome, pastas (awesome at other locations) are sometimes are too salty (but now they have three locations with the same menu in the same neighborhood so don't despair!), and the staff are probably are having a bad day, every day, all the time. Also I usually order a martini when I come here, if you want to enjoy a nice glass of wine I would go across the street to Briciola (same business owner) where they serve wine in wine glasses. read more

OMG! Best experience in a restaurant ever! It was unhurried, food was delicious, service was simply out of this world....even had special attention from the owner, although it looked as if he was circulating around and giving personal attention to all the diners. The night we were there it was sweltering, but after a lovely cocktail and good company, it could not have been a nicer experience. We were in town about 8 months ago and ate there and knew we wanted to return, but our visit this time was just fabulous. SHOUT OUT TO THE MANAGER/OWNER, MARK, WHO MADE US FEEL LIKE FAMILY! My friend had the day off and I was working from home, so we planned for lunch in the neighborhood before I get back to conference calls. Took a nice stroll to this cute little restaurant that always seem to be packed on weekend evenings. I've been to B pizza across the street, but the wait here always seems to be prohibitively long to even attempt - I'm not one to wait more than an hour for food (it can't be that magical). As expected, pretty empty on a weekday afternoon. We opted for the lunch special (only $2 for a glass of red, *gasp* why not?). I got the garganelli osso bucco while my friend got the pesto. Perfectly fine, sightly undercooked pasta. Nothing to call home about. It was a pleasant lunch. read more

I really love Briciola (and the former Xai Xai that used to occupy this space) - finally tried Briciola's sister restaurant. Unfortunately, found the food OK and felt very rushed w people coming to collect plates even though the restaurant was not full - I would rather sit in Briciola's smaller, more relaxed space and have a better time. Plus, I found it odd that they automatically added 20% gratuity to the bill without letting you know - was only a party of 2. Probably explains why the service here is lacking. read more

Update from my previous review: My boyfriend and I live in the neighborhood and come to dinner here at least once week. Well after tonight we will never be coming back. Over a month ago we came for dinner and sat at the bar as we usually do. My bartender/server wasn't working that night (after coming in for so long he always serves me wine in a wine glass, which the restaurant refuses to do), another bartender served us. This bartender refused to serve me wine in an actual wine glass and we waited 40 minutes between courses, the entire meal was over 2 hours long and we ate at the bar!. The bartender never came up to us during our meal to ask how things were going or to let us know the food will be out shortly. At the end of the meal I provided a few suggestions on the receipt to make the dining experience better for their customers in the future. Tonight my bf and I came back in for dinner (and we have been back since that experience). This bartender recognized us and in the middle of ordering our meal he stopped me abruptly and tells me that he recognizes us and will not be serving us instead he will get his manager--WOAH! Never in my life have I experience this at a restaurant! Stunned we proceeded to order anyway with the manager. After we placed our order, the manger proceeds to give us bread plates that our filthy and dirty! We walked out and will never be back!! The manager followed us outside and started loudly questioning us on why we were leaving. This was one of the worst and unpleasant dining experiences of my life! Never have we felt so unwelcome at a restaurant before. We will also be notifying our friends and neighbors to stay away from this establishment. The food here is usually pretty good but last night we ordered the gnocchi sorrentino, which is basically marinara, and the pasta was unfortunately hard. Either it wasn't cooked long enough or just tough in general, I'm not sure but we have ordered it in the past and it's always been soft and pillowy. Still the staff is friendly, and the rest of the food and ambiance are rustic and really nice. I would suggest trying this neighborhood Italian restaurant but perhaps ask them to cook the gnocchi a little bit more. read more

I had the chance to visit Aria Wine Bar while catching up with a friend on a Thursday evening. I didn't get the chance to eat here, but after my experience (and the glances I caught of some of the dishes) it's definitely on the list. My friend and I arrived at 6:40 PM on a Thursday evening. Since it was the first decent day of the week weather wise people were out in full force. When we arrived we were told we could only be seated at the bar for drinks. We managed to nab the last two open stools towards the left end of the bar. The restaurant itself has a long "L" shaped bar with high top stools, as well as dining tables in the middle of the space. It was packed throughout the entire time we were here. Looking around I saw people enjoying a variety of Italian dishes, each which looked better than the next. When we sat down at the bar my friend actually ordered one of their specials, the Grilled Octopus Salad, which apparently tasted as good as it looked! I stuck with their selection of beers (which are few) since I wasn't really in the mood for wine. Our bartender was friendly and helpful! He answered any questions we had and gave us information about some of the dishes they had on their extensive menu. Overall this place seems like a solid spot to grab drinks with a friend after work. I'm assuming it gets packed, being that it's on the corner of a residential street in Hell's Kitchen. If you're looking to dine during the busier hours I'd definitely take the time to make a reservation. read more

After regularly walking by Aria Wine Bar, I finally made a visit myself. The atmosphere and venue is amazing, with stunning flowers outside. Super cozy and inviting, perfect for a date (literally see couples by the window every day), catching up with a friend, or a birthday, though it did get loud at times. I wasn't very hungry so I only had the gnoochi in tomato sauce, side of spinach and wine, but I definitely plan on coming back to try the tapas-style offerings. I think $14 for a pasta is pretty good in the West Village. I feel like few NY Italian restaurants offer a simple gnoochi, so I really loved that about Aria and enjoyed the dish. I found the wine selection to be decent and liked the Chianti. I received great service, with people checking with me regularly. read more

Nice italian tapas/pasta wine bar in hell's kitchen. This wine bar is always busy, and inside is extremely crowded since it's pretty small and they have aligned tables so tightly to fit people in. It's loud and lively so if you want that nyc vibe, this may be it. For me, the tables were way too crowded with people and waiters trying to pass by constantly, we sat at the corner bar to avoid the crowd. It's pretty pricey, costing $12 for small tapas and I think they were charging $8 for cheese and salumi. Surprisingly though, the portions weren't bad at all. We got lasagna that had more meat than pasta. And the tapas were pretty good too. I'd say it's an italian tapas can't really go wrong. read more

I'm giving today's dining experience at Aria-- 5 stars. I'm really surprised it has only averaged 3 1/2 stars from other Yelpers. Aria is right across the street from another favorite of mine, Briciola. Found out that the restaurants are of the same owner and the menu and wine selections are pretty much the same. (See my review of Briciola and you will see why I loved it) What separates Aria from Briciola in my opinion since the food and wine are the same and delicious is space. Aria is a bit more spacious, more of a restaurant feel. Yelp describes Aria as not kid friendly but depends on the kids. My kids EAT! Love well prepared Italian food. So Aria can be a place you bring kids between ages 8-12. Anyway, while we will definitely be going back to Briciola when it's just the adults, Aria was really enjoyable too! Pappardelle with Wild Boar!!!! Wow! My wife had risotto with lamb shank. 10 year old boy had the bolognese, 12 yr old girl had the gnocchi ! All wonderful! Plus the dessert was great also!!!! Located a couple steps away from 9ave and with a beautiful front it looked like the perfect place for my pasta cravings. Unfortunately didn't meet most of my expectations, the food was okay a little weak on flavor but it was a good serving portion and it did had some good items like the sardine in saor appetizer and the delicious tiramisu, but regarding service it was non present and/or rude at most times, the busboy was way more attentive and polite than the server, the server didn't came once to check in if we needed anything or we were satisfied with our food, which is fine but he also had a somewhat rude demeanor, he didn't even care about taking our dirty appetizer plates before putting in front of us our main course. I think the prices are fair for the kind of food you get, but if you take the okay food with the lacking service, I don't think is much worth it. It's a good place to come by if you don't wanna spend much and are around the neighborhood, wouldn't recommend to come specifically to this place for a great experience. read more

We have found that restaurants are not always as welcoming to the now three of us anymore. The place is very small and it was crowded. We sat at the bar. All of the staff had a very thick accent which was really hard to understand, however they were really nice and answered all of our questions. We ordered two glass of wine which came in this small glass cup, not a wine glass.... We ordered their tuna avo plate, it was amazing! Presentation was pretty and it tasted fresh. We also ordered a salami (?) & real mozzarella cheese plate. Sorry i completely forgot the names of each plate. But that was also great, really fresh! I enjoyed both dish. Tried Aria Wine Bar last night randomly while walking around Hell's Kitchen area looking for a dinner spot. Looked nice and smelled good so we gave it a try. Turned out to be a good decision. The menu is very reasonably priced and we tried three small plates to share. First was a calamari dish. It was not deep fried but served in a spicy tomato sauce with olives and capers. It was good but a bit too spicy for us and maybe too many olives. The second was an artichoke dish in a non-spicy tomato sauce. This was better. Last was the fettuccini with mushrooms. Honestly, If we just had this we would have been very happy. It was excellent. Note that the plates were larger than we expected so it's a good value. Share one plate for two people if just picking, two and two and you'll be full. Good wine as well. Good music in the background and the service was pleasant. read more

This is one of my go-to places for delivery! Most of the dishes are absolutely delicious. My favorites are the mushroom fettuccine, shrimp and polenta over lentils, and the crab cakes. The eggplant rollatini is like no other. It's much better than any other I've tried. The eggplant is thin and the goat cheese inside is very delicate and pretty light for this type of dish. I found the octopus crostini very good and my bf enjoyed the suckling pig crostini. The only few that weren't outstanding for me are the calamari, shrimp rigatoni, and sardines. I would definitely recommend to try this place and particularly the dishes I mention above! read more

Aria used to be our go to spot for a long time, but till today we haven't been we haven't been there for a while and with that being said, I doubt we'll come back... The service was always bad, but we kept coming back for the food. Today, we returned calamari in umido because it was stone cold and rubbery. Took them 20 minutes to recook. Then had to ask the server to bring my husband a plate and silverware and they guy only brought a plate, and then took 5 more minutes to get silverware. The past drop for me was $14 Prosecco, which is supposed to be $12, based on the menu, and $11 beer (even for nyc that's ridiculous!! Most of their wines are $12/glass). read more
