This little market has some really good stuff. The candy is delicious. I'm not sure what the name of the candy is but they are basically home made Turkish delights. Kind of a fruity gummy log with pistachios mix inside. Some have crushed pistachios covering the outside and some have a peanut butter kind of center. The gummy part is soft but still a little chewy, more of a soft licorice texture. They used to have them behind glass and you could just choose which ones and how much. But now they have three cut logs in plastic containers on the shelf. Still delicious though. They have plenty of different spices and some fresh looking meats in the back. The meat I bought was completely spoiled -- the smell was awful and it looked unsafe to eat, so I had to throw it away. When I went back to talk to the staff, the new manager was rude and told me not to say anything in front of customers instead of apologizing or taking responsibility. This is one of my favorite eateries. It offers Halal chicken cut to your preference which is great. They also offer marinated chicken which is a help when heading out to a barbecue. Our biweekly visits are often to get fresh cut chicken. The food is great. My favorites are: Bolani - Think of it as a lightly fried pancake with potato or aloo paratha Chicken kabab Chicken shawarma Salmon kabab Rice - And this is just the plain rice I am talking about. Slight whiff of butter & saffron flavored. The aroma and taste are unparalleled. We have at times got it packed for home by itself. The salad is also nicely put together. I have often hobbled it up before the rice or anything else on the plate. Their sweet dish is also delicious. It just melts in your mouth. The dessert is way better than any store bought ice cream. They also have other things on offer in the quaint grocery which offers quite an inventory. Dates, Arabic bread, spices, dairy products, fresh produce - all in one place. Dropped in for lunch on a Sunday. Upon entering, you'll see their small dining area. To the right is the meat/grocery area. We dined in but most people were ordering food to-go. It appears to be a small family run business, the ladies were hard at work, cooking at the grill and a gentleman was taking orders, busing food and also helping customers at their grocery register. It took a few minutes before we got help at the counter but we were able to order. A few minutes later, we found out that they were out of chicken biryani...a little disappointing, but the cook suggested goat curry, which we agreed to. The wait was worth it because the food was SO GOOD. I'm not huge on mutton:goat dishes but this one was so well done, no unsavory aroma and the meat was incredibly tender! The rice, perfection! Our other dish was the chappli kabob served with basmati/saffron rice and salad. Not too spicy and all the flavors were there. We were able to overlook the slight delay in service and them being out of chicken biryani because the food hey cook is AUTHENTIC and DELICIOUS. If you like kabobs, this place is one to try/ they make wraps too, perfect for on the go lunches. This Halal meat shop claims to have veal, goat, lamb, etc. Before going there and making a 15 mile trip each way, I called and spoke with the owner (Hussein) to see if he had fresh Halal meat. He said he did, so I drove there. I bought a half of a lamb from them yesterday, which they keep in the cold room. First of all the place is filthy. chicken juice flying everywhere when the butcher hits it with the meat cleaver in proximity of red meat. The floors are full of chicken juice, red meat juice and imagine any other filth there is. It seems like it has not been cleaned for days. Then I saw the butcher drop a plastic bag on the floor, he picked it right up and placed on the counter top where he was cutting meat, contaminating the counter top which was next to his electric saw. i picked half of a lamb from the back room and I brought the meat home and started the cooking process for the Holy month of Ramadan. This is where the real nightmare began. I put on my glasses to make sure it was clean. The meat was laced with some black filth which I presume it was part of the feces or other farm dirt. Not all of it was laced but spots here and there. So I washed it, thinking it is organic/free range material on it. Then I became more curious and brought more light in the kitchen and turned on any other light in that area. I realized it was laced with short black sheep hair as well. It took me over 20 minutes to go through the first bag of meat to clean it and to pick the disgusting hairs off of it. After using a half of a paper towel to clean it one by one, since the hairs had stuck to the meat and was slippery to pick, I finally managed to clean it. The clock was ticking and I had to start cooking, now that the cleaning was over. By the way, I had bought 14lb(half a lamb). I had noticed that there was an unusual smell coming out of the back seat when I was driving home with A.C. full blast on. I was not sure why the meat had a foul smell fumigating my car. Once I got home, I smelled the meat and quickly realized that it was not the meat, it was the other organic farm material on it. That explained the smell in the car. I started to cook for my Iftar(breaking of my fast). After an hour and half of cooking which included 45 minutes in the pressure cooker, it was still tough and stringy. The butcher had told me that it was spring lamb( Bara). It was far from it. I could not eat it. I left it alone because it was time for Iftar. Thank God that there were other thing which I had prepared or i would have gone hungry. Today, I was not going to take a chance recooking it again. So, I decided to pull another bag which I had placed in a Ziploc bag out of the refrigerator. My plan was to put it in the pressure cooker for a couple of hours this time, so I got an early start. I opened the 2nd bag, the smell was there and this time I had found one of those 2+ magnifying glass which I had bought from Costco a couple years ago. I saw so much tiny black hairs on the meat that it just brought a disgusting feeling over me. I took it all out of the refrigerator and placed it in double garbage bags and right down the trash bin of my apartment complex. I have no Idea where they get this inferior low quality filth&hair laced meat. If it is truly from their ranch than The USDA food safety and inspection services need to inspect them there at the ranch and this meat shop as well. it is places like this that put a Halal sign to attract the Muslim buyers and then end up selling them garbage(Nages meat). read more

I love this market! My husband and I make it a thing once a month to stop by for some baklava and Turkish delights. There are so many flavors of Turkish delights that we always ask to get a mix and slowly enjoy them throughout the week. Parking in this plaza is usually pretty good and the prices on the food (and limited produce) is reasonable. Usually we are pretty happy with their Bolanis (what we typically get from them), but last night we were quite displeased. The order took forever, which is typical for them even though they said it would be ready in 15 minutes....they didn't start making it until after my husband had arrived which was 5 minutes after the supposed pick up time. The bolanis they gave us were much smaller and thinner than what we typically get, they were incredibly greasy, there was hardly any potato and some of the pieces had just fallen apart because they were so thin and greasy. We've been here several times and I'm finally reviewing this amazing little place! But first, no, it's not a pretty little restaurant, although they did fix it up and add a few booths but it's a market, with a butcher on the back right, delicious food at the back left and tasty desserts in the front counter. So I always get the gyro plate and the potato bolani. Always delicious and full of amazing spices and flavors. The meat is soft and seems to melt in your mouth, their rice is soft and buttery, just delicious. You buy your drinks in the front, the grocery part of the store and while you're at it, just buy several little desserts. They have small Turkish delights, different little rolled snacks and baklava. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this awesome grocery store in Mira Mesa! My family up in NorCal always buys halal meat so once I saw this place I knew the quality was going to be great. My boyfriend and I stopped by here before a BBQ at our place and got the pre-marinated chicken and beef. The flavor of the chicken is outstanding and the quality was fantastic as expected. I don't eat beef but my boyfriend was pleased with the quality of the beef as well. After our friends tried the meat they asked where we got it so they can get some for themselves later! The service is very very friendly. It might be a little slow but keep in mind that it's a one man show so if he's busy in the back cutting meat, don't get upset. A man can only do so much! read more

This is my second time coming here and first time taking advantage of their qurbani lamb. In short, I'd suggest going somewhere else for qurbani lamb/goat. You'll save yourself the embarrassment, time, and money. Despite us paying for the lamb in advance, being told the day before that the lamb would be ready around noon, AND receiving a text to come pick up the lamb at 1 PM, there wasn't a single lamb. We were told that the person that texted us thought we were somebody else. We were told that the lamb would be ready by 7-8 PM at the earliest, even though we had guests and told the guests we'd have fresh qurbani lamb for dinner. We even offered to drive to Alpine to pick up the lamb, but they said no. When the lamb finally arrived, we asked beforehand for them to not cut it (we like butchering it ourselves and determining the cuts. However, when we arrived the lamb was already cut and bagged. And there was no paacha(!!!); it was thrown out or lost. Long story short, we paid ~$260 for 27 lbs of lamb (minus head and organ weight) that was 7 hours late, cut to whatever pieces were convenient for them, and that we didn't even enjoy fully with our guests. However for this event, I forgive them during this Eid Al-Adha and hope they learn from the mistake. I will not return though. read more

I order the koobideh kabob, gyro by the pound and beef kabob. The meat was very soft and juicy. Comes with rice and salad. Very good price for there portion. The white sauce that's comes with meal was tasting. Salad sauce that's comes with the salad very flavorful. They have vegetarian option as well. Must try the Bolani. It was lot of potato and some green leaf in side a soft bread. they make it from scratch. I can tell it Family own. Customer service was very good. Haven't had any problem. Food come out fast and hot. I believe they Cater too. Next time if I don't have time Togo. They also do deliver on Grubhub. Should really try there food. Won't be disappointed . Highly recommended. My initial experience when the owner was around was really awesome. He was very respectful and the food is what had me coming back. Unfortunately, my run with one of his employees sucked. I placed a phone order and from what I can tell, he didn't record my order in fact, he blatantly disregarded it. How do I know this? I was more than a 15min drive from their restaurant before I made the call. When I arrived, the Hispanic guy(same person who listened to my order over the phone) looked a millisecond surprised when I repeated my order to him yet he told me to wait just 2min next door. I sat there for another 15 minutes watching the customers next to me get their food and another 2 gentlemen walk in and their food was ready for pick up yet I'm still there the last to be served... That really pisses me off, no apology no nothing from the dude who messed up taking my order, lied to my face saying "two minutes." I just hope the owner sees this and has something to say about it because I know it doesn't take 45 minutes to make one chicken kabob and one gyros plate. I clearly called in ahead of time and gave them ample time to prepare and it does not make sense that I sit and watch 2 parties get served ahead of me. The shop is unhygienic condition(temp. also high inside shop) and am sure this will affect health after eating spoiled meat. 2. They sell ground goat by telling baby goat and charge more(so ordered whole chicken with above said 2 reasons)... 3. Staff is not friendly and they least bothered about customers(today ordered whole chicken, they didn't checked with me on: what kind of cut required...they decided and cut the meat...very pissed off with the very big size cut) I never go again to this shop as I am not ready to spoil my health. The restaurant part of this grocery store used to have amazing food until owners switched last year. Seeing how our options are pretty limited when it comes to Afghan food in San Diego, I've tried to give this place multiple shots and it continues to fail. It seems like the new owners are trying really hard by expanding the menu and offering even non-afghan options such as burgers, breakfast etc but they should just focus on select afghan dishes and master it. Their food quality has no consistency. To be safe, I ordered some basic chicken and beef skewers as a take out order. Unfortunately, when I checked my food at home, the chicken kabobs were partially raw with absolutely no taste and beef kabobs had a rotten smell to it. Don't like throwing food away but couldn't bring myself to eat it no matter what... even after trying to bake the raw chicken in the oven again! There aren't many workers inside, so if there is more than 3 customers you may have to wait a bit. It kind of depends. There are 3 sections inside the store. When you immediately walk in you'll see a small restaurant, then to the right is the grocery section, and in the back is where they sell meat. Customer service is great. Fantastic little market with amazing halal meats. I always come here for their lamb, goat and chicken. I know this market can turn some people off as they just throw the raw meats in plastic bags and hand it over to you. The meats are significantly fresher than even the many Asian markets I tend to go to. I don't care for their produce. I do have to say the staff is overall friendly but can be extremely slow especially during lunch time when they are trying to work both the cash register, butcher market and dining area. As for the food, it's pretty good although I think the goat stew could be a little more tender. The plates are large and food amazing. As said earlier, it does bottleneck just to get a plate for the buffet line since the service can be slow. read more

Laziest staff ever found ,....... Sad thing ,very few options in Mira Mesa area for meat

Personally I feel conflicted about bursting everybody's bubble here because I like the people who run this place. Usually I am here every 5 days to get Australian imported goat chops in this market. We are better off paying $8 to $10 a pound instead of $5 or $6 other places charge for rock hard frozen goat meat. Every other time here I get roasted pistachios and/or yellow raisins better than what Whole Foods, Jimbos, Sprouts, Trader Joes, or OB People's has. However, the scale they weigh the meat on usually has a layer of fat and/or blood on top from meat previously weighed when the new meat is weighed. A couple of their scoopers in the bulk section still have the shopping tag stickers on them. Personally I NEVER got sick or had any ill effects as a result. Therefore I am better off shopping here than not although this may or may not be typically acceptable in markets in Afghanistan. On Food Network + Travel Channel I saw worse with rust on scales as well as people picking things up with their bare hands in bulk sections. To reduce the chances of something bad happening as a result I do a couple things when I get home. I season the goat chops with 2 layers of the Simply Organic brand All Seasons salt which has nearly all the ingredients in the most popular meat seasoning in Australia. The raisins + pistachios in the clear bag sit under the florescent lights. After a few minutes I turn it over to the other side letting it sit for the same time. The couple times I had lunch + dinner here I felt their food was too salty while lacking flavor. However, the people who came with me thought it was just fine as it was. I am sure that most indigenous cultures are far less concerned with mandated regulations than the masses here. Nothing significantly bad came as a result for them. Therefore I improvise because I prefer to have meat, fruits, nuts, + grains originating from rain instead of the faucet or "irrigation" water for things grown domestically. read more

No frozen meat section found here. What you get is fresh, hormone free, humanly raised animal products. I expected to pay higher prices for this standard but was stunned by the reasonable pricing. Another stand out quality of this store is their customer service. The owners are friendly and helpful. FInally, I found my place in San Diego that sells the best goat meat!!! I am from the bay area and didn't have any luck finding a good place down here that sells tender goat meat. But Ariana surprised me with some of the best goat meat I have ever had. Best part is, it is not frozen and is fresh. The owner who cuts the meat is very friendly and does a great job in cutting the meat to smaller pieces with the knife once he is done cutting with the machine. This review is strictly for the restaurant portion of the store (in the back, left corner of the store). I often drive by Ariana Produce and never realized there was a restaurant that served food. I always thought it was just a small grocery shop, so I never bothered to stop by. The restaurant in the back is called Ariana Cuisine and is owned separately by a very nice man, Rohullah. I'm no expert at Middle Eastern food, but Rohullah recommended the platters. I went with the Tikka Kabob (beef chunks) platter with an extra Chicken Kabob on the side. After a nice conservation with the owner, he told me that the beef he uses is filet mignon, and that the chicken is organic. I didn't believe him until I tried it myself. It was absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection and served over long-grain rice with a side of salad and bread, it was the right combination to satisfy my hunger. In fact, the food was so delicious, I went back the next day to try something else. I opted for the Chapli Kabob platter (ground beef) with a Baklava dessert on the side. The Chapli kabob was a bit lighter on the portion side, but it was enough for a lunch. Again, Rohullah never ceases to amaze me with his food. If you're ever in the area and want to try something delicious, swing by and give this place a try! If you're not here for the food, at least pay Rohullah a visit; the man works 7 days a week and is a great guy to start a conversation with! read more

It looks like this 'little market that could' is really getting established in the community! Shelves are stocked with more and more interesting items, the kitchen in the back is providing fantastic meals, the meat counter is impressive. I will say, the owner must have super powers, as he is often the only one at the store. Manning the meat counter, the register, staying attentive and friendly... despite some of his, shall we call them 'assertive?' customers. The other day I heard one asking if he had fresher meat when it was a DAY old. Last I checked, not one market in town has goats or lambs tied up in the back alley... He assured them it was fresh (um, yeah!) and of course, of good quality. I'm not sure if they're still on the menu, but several months ago they served the most AMAZING little meat dumplings, a yogurt based dipping sauce with rice. I've been craving them ever since. Hubby had a hankering for lamb burgers a few months ago and the owner ground up the freshest, most beautiful portion of lamb I had ever seen. The quality was superb. Not gamey at all, we mixed in some lean ground beef, spices, barbecued them up and served them at a gathering to hugely positive response! I went to this place going through the yelp reviews. Oh man this is definitely a good one to check out. The food is super tasty. I tried the kabobs and they were far better than the ones I have tried before. The chef makes it in the way you want. We wanted more masala and he did it !! It was great to know that they do catering. Don't miss out on the sweets.. they are just heavenly. The grocery is a bit pricy compared to the Indian stores around.
