Would you like some meat for your rice? Tucked away in the same shopping center as Sprouts in Poway is Baba Kabob. The interior doesn't have any seating and looks more like a small market on the inside, with the front counter where you can place your order. There is a few seats outside on the shaded patio. Service has been a relatively whatever experience, I place my order on the phone and get a pretty simple response and timeframe. Even though the timeframe they provide is 10-15 minutes I still end up waiting longer (about 5-10 mins extra) before my order is ready to go so something to consider if you're on a crunch. The food itself, admittedly, tastes good. On the other end, however, the portions to price ratio is kind of bad in my opinion. Nearly $26 for a mostly full plate of rice with a couple pieces of kabob/meat and a side spring salad isn't really worth it. I tried putting off my review for a bit just to see after a few visits if the portions would change from plate to plate but it's pretty consistently about the same as well as a sorta poor presentation in comparison to some other photos and reviews I've seen of the place. I usually get the beef kabob plate. Might come back here to try out the food again, but it's really overpriced for what it is so to me it isn't worth it. read more

Stumbled across Baba Kabob unexpectedly when looking for food around the area. It's like a hole in the wall Greek restaurant that also sells drinks, desserts, and other goods. We ordered the gyro and chicken Shawarma plate for 2. The gyro was perfectly seasoned and my favorite. The chicken was a bit drier but still palatable. The green chutney and tzatziki sauce is so delicious. The chutney is spicy and tangy/vinegary, and the white sauce is creamy and fragrant. Honestly, I feel like this is one of the best hitting gems in Poway. I I randomly drove by this place when getting a smog check and noticed that there are a lot of people sitting outside eating and I decided to check it out and it was actually amazing. They have only a couple small tables outside the shop with some umbrellas so if you come out a crowded time, it may be a little busy. I believe that this style of Middle Eastern food was Afghan food. We've been here twice and it tastes exactly the same as the first time we usually get the chicken and beef kebab plate. My husband and I always share the plate for lunch because it's the perfect amount but the samosas are also really good. They have a yogurt sauce and a green sauce which is amazing and the fact that the chicken is so tender and juicy and the steak is so tender as well as just the cherry on top. I honestly can't say enough good things about Baba Kabob. My brother brought me food from here straight to my hotel because I was tied up in work meetings and couldn't make it over to the restaurant. The rice was incredibly soft and perfectly cooked. The beef was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and the chicken was just as juicy and full of flavor. I was craving Mediterranean food and remembered my friend recommended this family owned local restaurant. I'd never heard of it so we gave it a try for dinner. We had it delivered and it was still nice and hot, smelled amazing and they put a tamper seal on the food which I appreciated for that extra bit of safety. We got the beef kebab with rice and added gyro meat, the chicken shawarma with rice that both came with salads and the garlic bread. Always hunting for good middle eastern food, we decided to try Baba Kabob last weekend and were in for quite a surprise! The gyro sandwiches we ordered were packed with finely chopped veggies (yummy), delicious gyro meat, sauce and the pita was grilled perfectly. It was fresh, not dripping in grease. The big surprise came after we took a bite and thought, "This tastes just like the gyros we would get from Ariana Produce in Mira Mesa!" We looked on the Baba Kabob site and there was a photo of the owner!! We moved to Escondido shortly after he left Ariana Produce and opened Baba Kabob on Black Mountain Rd., so we were shocked to "find" his place in Poway !! The expansive menu featuring Afghan delicacies should have tipped me off ... I haven't seen Bolani anywhere else in San Diego. The owner was so nice to us back in Mira Mesa and his family running the Poway store was just as friendly. Congrats on location #2, Baba Kabob!
