First time here. Website was super confusing to try and navigate, so I just called to order. That was easy enough and everyone was friendly in the phone. Ordered chicken shawarma and beef and chicken shawarma plates with a dolma appetizer. I received two beef and chicken shawarma plates, a little annoying since the wife didn't want beef, but whatever. Dolmas are covered in some weird, gross looking sauce. I couldn't tell if it was congealed fat or what? They tasted fine though, I suppose. Nothing special, but average. Beef and chicken shawarma plates came without any sauce...like a classic garlic sauce or tahini. Made the meal VERY dry, as the meat was dry. Overall flavor was good though. Overall 3/5 stars. Stopped by again for lunch with a friend while grocery shopping next door. They did not disappoint. We shared a roast chicken half with a nice cucumber salad, and it was more than enough for the two of us. So much so that we made it or main meal of the day. Consistently good food at low prices. Huge portion sizes but the beef can be a bit dry. I can usually have an entree for 3 meals because of how much food they give you! To quote my son "this is the worst mediterranean food we have ever had!" The service was very slow. Our food then came out cold and incorrect. One asked for no onions or pickles and still had both in his wrap the rest of our food was cold. They give large portions but the rice didn't even taste good. This is not our first time there. So we rush to get in our order at the counter and of course they're out of certain items already. But everyone there is super friendly (with smiles) The girls ordered a salad of some sort & hummus and I order the grilled chicken and beef kabob plate: the meats were cooked well but still juicy. There was plenty of food for everyone to share and leftovers for a nice meal later. I used to work in Glendale, CA, so I was not new to Mediterranean food. When I moved to Poway, I really missed all the great food I used to eat. Imagine my surprise to see such a fantastic Mediterranean market/grill in a small town like Poway. In addition to the regular kebabs, shawarma, and gyro, they also have other stuff like eggplants, various stews, and all kinds of bread, lavash etc. My parents did not have a lot of experience with Mediterranean food. The became a fan after eating here. My mom especially love the flavor of the basmati rice. We became regulars. Our favorite things to order are the koobideh, beef shish kebob, and the garlic chicken kabob. I also really enjoy the baba ganoush as I love eggplants. Other things we like to order are the different breads, and the grilled eggplant. This is overall my favorite place to get Mediterranean food. The portions are generous and ingredients fresh. Zereshk Polo is a great Persian rice dish, made with fluffy basmati rice, tangy red barberries, and aromatic spices. It is quite flavorful. I can't believe I've never left a review for one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in all of San Diego. It doesn't quite have the ambiance that other restaurants have because it's a casual bakery but the people watching does not disappoint. It truly is awesome so see all walks of life, young and old, different races and backgrounds all coming together to eat incredible food whether it's from their cultural background or someone else's. My go to is the garlic chicken with ground beef plate. I love their salad and rice. The homemade bread is to die for as well. Here are some pictures from my last visit. I love me a good taco truck, but catering middle eastern / Mediterranean food from here proved to be an excellent option for my girlfriend's 50th birthday party. Patient and friendly ordering in the store, but go during off hours so you don't hold up the line. Allow three days' advance notice. We had a group of 50 mostly newbie anglos who didn't grow up on middle eastern food. This was our order and insights: - 1/2 lamb Kuzi- Impressive presentation, delicious and tender, with cardamom and other complex flavors in the rice along with raisins and almond slices. But too much quantity for us. Better to get the 1/4 Kuzi. - 12-20 Family Meal- with the best juicy and flavorful chicken kabob anywhere as well as Ground Beef Kabob. These went fast. Comes with tasty roasted tomatoes.. I would order an extra 6-12 family meal with the Kuzi savings above. - 25 Falafel- not nearly enough with all the vegetarians in SoCal. Order 50. I believe the tahini sauce was included for this. - Greek salad - large tray. Good. Family meals come with salad, but an extra 1/2 tray would have been better. - 5 lb hummus - delicious. 4 lbs would be would have been OK - 2 lb Baba Ghanoush - delicious, best ever, correct amount - 1 lb tzatziki (pint container) went fast, not nearly enough. 2 lbs would be better - Fresh flatbread. Super popular at the restaurant. Let them cut each one into 10 manageable pieces for you and be sure to try the yummy garlic sauce for dipping. The portion of rice in this takeout order was embarrassingly small and frankly shameful. It felt degrading and showed a complete lack of respect for customers. To make matters worse, a very rude young man was assigned to respond to customers. His attitude was offensive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. Since it's located inside the North Park Produce market, I often stop by for a quick bite while doing my grocery shopping. I love how convenient it is, with plenty of parking available. I love coming to this place for Mediterranean food. Their tandoori bread is the best . Comes out piping hot and if you eat it with their garlic sauces it's perfection ! We also order their boneless chicken plate which comes with a generous portion of rice and cucumber salad. I love their shawarma chicken sandwich which unfortunately was devoured too quickly I didn't get a photo of it. LOL. I also enjoy the beef flat bread which I've had in Istanbul. So good! Great value and good food. I ordered the whole roasted lamb with rice for a Christmas luncheon for about 40 people. I also ordered grilled vegetables, hummus, and tandoori bread. There was so much food that we had planty of leftovers. The lamb with the rice was under $400 before tax and it can easily serve 45-50 people. The lamb was tender and flavorful and the rice had lots of almonds, raisins, some meatballs, hard boiled eggs, noodles, and French fries in it. Everyone at the party loved it. I had the food delivered and they arrived about 10 minutes earlier than the set time which was great and everything was still very hot. Give this a try for your next party. read more

Went today on my lunch break. The grill is beside the actual grocery store so you can shop then eat if you wanted to. Depending on time of day, the wait can be a little long to get your food but it's worth the wait! The portions are huge for the price you pay. This grocery store is fantastic for Persian groceries. Everything is fresh, the food items are fresh, and the prices are very reasonable. Sometimes they even have great discounts. I always go there to shop, and I'm really satisfied. Especially one cashier--one of the cashiers--I've always liked her a lot. She is truly a great person; her name is Setareh, and she is always kind and cheerful. Also, in the deli section, there's a lady named Rozita who is very clean, always takes care of hygiene, and is always friendly. I really recommend this place! read more

In the mood for great Persian Food? This is a must try...recommend the Boneless chicken kabob, the Kobedieh (ground) chicken & beef plates. Each plate comes with a Sharazian Salad with chopped cucumber, tomato & onion with lemon juice...very fresh and refreshing (see pics for more details). Most plates come with white Basmati rice, you can specialty rice - I get Adas Pollo with the ground chicken & beef combo which contains lentils and dates. On this occasion I noticed they also had a chicken/veggie rice - so tried this as well. It was okay, the chicken was a little salty. Would recommend asking for some yogurt/dill and garlic sauces - these are nice flavor enhancers. You can also order a cheesy flat bread while you wait for your food as they get busy and it may take up to 25 minutes to get your order. It was my first time here and I like that they have a bakery and grill inside the grocery store. I met up with some friends at this location, but actually went to the the wrong one at first LOL. We shared a platter, apple salad, tabouleh, hummus, etc. The platter was huge and very nicely presented. It had skewers of Chicken Tikka and Beef Shawarma, served with different kinds of rice. Both salads were refreshing and hummus was great. The giant pita bread was bigger than my head! Before we left, we decided to get a tray of baklava as well. Why oh why would you wrap a beautiful falafel meal in a tortilla?? The whole point is to wrap in lavash or pita. It know it gets soggy quickly in those breads but that's not your problem. Garlic chicken is very juicy and seasoned great. BIg fan of this place, came twice and it has been consistent and pricing is very reasonable. I overheard some diners about garlic sauce and I have always requested for garlic sauce with dunk my proteins and it elevates the meal so much! Service can be hit or miss but the food never fails to deliver. ALWAYS call in your order as everything is cooked fresh and hot. Sometimes service is good, sometimes not but I would say it ranges somewhere in the middle overall. Portions are hefty and our go to is usually the chicken kebab, beef kebab or the chicken shwarma. You get a huge helping of basmati rice, a grilled tomato and flatbread. There is an attached grocery store as well that have items you won't find in your average Vons or Ralph's. Been a customer of this North Park Produce location since 2000, when I often used get pita sandwiches from their deli for lunch. So of course when they opened their restaurant I instantly became a regular. Over the last few years I have seen the prices go up and the quality go up and down, even before the pandemic. Yet, I have continued to support this local business and still regularly order food from this restaurant several times each month, including multiple $100+ catering orders throughout the year. My 2023 start with this restaurant was hugely disappointing. I came in and ordered a Family Feast for 12 ($150) and picked it up on a Saturday to bring down to Chula Vista for a family celebration. The food was all packed up when I arrived to pick it up and I noted that I was given packaged pita bread instead of the yummy bread they make daily in-house. Was told that this is what comes with catering orders now. When I made down to Chula Vista to feed the extended family, I almost immediately began plating food for the kids. The pita I pulled from the package of pita bread had a noticeable circle of mold on it. I tossed it, thinking it was isolated, but as I sifted through the bag they all had a bit of mold on them. MOLDY BREAD BAG #1. I set that bag aside and moved on to the next bag and it too contained several pita bread with mold. MOLDY BREAD BAG #2. By this point, I had multiple hungry young kids looking at me asking for their food. Thankfully the third bag contained "clean" bread. I inspected each piece and even tasted it to be sure no upset little tummies would result. End result was that 2 out of 3 bags contained moldy bread! This has never happened before to me after years of ordering food. When I rechecked the moldy bags, I noted that one was tagged "Best by 03 Jan 23". The other was marked "Best by 07 Jan 23". I picked up on 07 Jan. It was a busy week for me so I was a unable to take the moldy bread back to the restaurant after a few days. I didn't want other people having the same experience and potentially getting sick. I was told the manager was out when I visited and presented the moldy bread and my originally receipt proving my catering order. The cashier apologized and took my name and number down and told me the manager would give me a call. When I noted the pre-packed bread was given instead of their fresh bread, I was told this was now the norm for catering orders. I was offered fresh replacement bread but I told the cashier that it would be waste to give me replacement bread for a catering order since it would just go to waste. Alternatively I was offered 10% off of any order and told that was the best she could do for me. Since I was in a hurry to return to work I order a Koobideh to-go. In retrospect, I should have just left. While I waited for my slightly discounted order, I noted that I saw the staff push out a cart of prepackaged pita bread and it looks like they were setting it aside for inspection. My family loves the food here. As a longtime regular customer who orders multiple catering order each year I'm utterly disappointed. When I spend over $100 for a catering order, I expect a restaurant to bring their "A" game. Giving customers like me pre-packaged bread instead of the freshly made bread you make in-house is an insult. That, coupled with the fact the product you substituted it with is subpar and moldy is a shame. Sadly, the manager or anyone else from the restaurant never called me back to follow up. Looks like I should take my business elsewhere going forward. read more
