Very excited to come to this restaurant, we've heard great things. First, the beef Wellington was unreal 10/10. The fried chicken (which is known as their best seller) was great but some pieces were more seasoned than others which was not ideal so would be 8/10. A little disappointed on the service, we ask for more bread and it never came. The server never checked on us, we always have to request for him to come to our table. Factual information is below: First, Ariel restaurant is located in Courtyard by Marriott. You walk inside the hotel lobby then make a right to enter the doors of the restaurant. We were all seated and enthusiastic to celebrate two birthdays on this prepared trip. We all ordered drinks and food, but things went gradually downhill when the drink server spilled alcoholic beverages on one of the birthday girls' dresses. She went to the restroom and spent almost an hour blowdrying the dress. The drinks were rather on the lighter side (BUT what if it was red wine?); nevertheless, it ruined the dress. Meanwhile, during this whole hour, the drink server did not inform anyone about the incident and our table server/others had no idea what happened. The other girls informed the server and manager about the incident. The manager came to our table 3 times. First, she came to assess the situation after our main server contacted her. Second, she came around to give us 1 free dessert, but we informed her that we never wanted dessert. Third, she came after she talked to the owner that "all they can do because it's more than enough" is to compensate for the $40 of bottled water (that we did not order) and 2 drinks that were spilled on the birthday girl's dress. The owner never came to our table, and he left the restaurant already when we wanted to talk to him. Another piece of information is that the owner of Ariel restaurant is the main chef, Ariel Rodriguez. Aside from all the mishaps aforementioned, the food quality was not the best because either the food was too bland or too salty. The risotto rice was not even fully cooked (in a French/Spanish restaurant). The main girl who ordered the risotto sent it back because Ariel does not have other vegan options, aside from bread. We also noticed that a few dishes did not have all the ingredients mentioned on the menu, so the server brought out 1 medium-sized plate of each ingredient that was missing in the dishes. Out of all, I do recommend the beef wellington, as it was the only one I would rate a 4/5 star for "good." They also made simple mistakes on the receipt and charged us for extra sides that should have been included in the dish. In other words, the menu specifically stated that certain dishes would include 1 or 2 side dishes. My conclusion: For a "$$$$" restaurant, go spend your cash and 3 hours with better hospitality elsewhere. read more

Outstanding food, service and ambience! The fish is flown in fresh daily if it is not caught locally. The portions are generous. The food is just really amazing and high-quality. I loved the cocktails. The sommelier, Jill, was absolutely wonderful and thoughtful with all her recommendations for food and drink. I just can't say enough good things about this fancy dining place in my hotel. Yes it is in the courtyard Marriott but don't let that stop you because this is an independent restaurant and it's phenomenal. I'm going to share pictures so check out the things I ate and drank. And if you go, celebrate a good occasion and have a good time. We were disappointed in our dining experience at Ariel. We're happy to pay a premium price for good food & drinks, but Ariel just isn't good value for money. It's incredibly overpriced for average food. The ambiance & decor is also lacking. The vibe seemed to be tailored more toward older folks. My grandparents would've enjoyed it! The food was disgusting. I ordered the chicken waffles. The breading slid off the chicken because it was slimy. The waffles weren't great either. The prices are ridiculous for how disgusting the food is. The waiters lacked class and presentation. The restaurant's presentation is also very ugly. They have this ugly centerpiece. As we walked in and were greeted by the staff, we were prepared to have a phenomenal night. As Miguel listed the many and varied off menu creations, we became even more excited. Our last night in Puerto Rico was going to be our best night! He brought over the mixologist to take our drink orders. My sister in law said he could make her any surprise he wanted, as long as it was vodka. My daughter said the same, but tequila. He brought them both tequila drinks and then ARGUED that she had wanted tequila. Nope. She never drinks tequila and we all heard her. He made her another drink but his attitude concerned us. We ordered our soup and appetizers. Miguel did not mention the $40 per person up charge for the truffles added to the soup. My niece didn't want the truffles but we were all charged the $40 per person. Of course we did not know this until the end. We all ordered chef's specials of the evening. I ordered the sea bass, and the other three ordered the tuna. The entrees were inedible. By the third bite, the salt was SO overpowering. None of us ate more than 3 bites. No one ever came to ask how our entrees were, or to see if we wanted anything. To be fair, the sea bass was removed from the final bill but we still paid for 3 completely inedible entrees. We ordered a very nice bottle of wine. The cork was never presented to me. I love great restaurants, great service, great food and great wine. Sadly, none of these were available tonight at this restaurant. As long as I am being picky, they really need to do something about the bathroom situation. Sharing the one ladies room with the kids from the pool at the Courtyard was not a pleasant experience. read more

Went as all the reviews were so great. Not sure if management changed, but the service was very OK. They were not very attentive, and slow. But as for the ambience, it was very very nice. The food was mixed as the wagu ribs my husband got was mediocre at best but my salmon and Mac and cheese was absolutely delicious. 4 star only for the salmon and ambience and also one waiter who tried to be as attentive as possible. read more

It's a shame that such a nice restaurant is not holding the high quality as in pass years. With a reservation we wait half an hour to be acknowledged at the door. Then wait 40 minutes for them to set up a table for us. Wait another half hour to order drinks. We left without ordering. Regresamos bebidas y comidas que estaban muy agrias, saladas, y que no estaban cocinadas bien, como el risotto. No entiendo como un restaurante Frances arruina un risotto. Los platos no llegaron completos, les faltaban sides que tuvimos que pedir. A mi también me tiro mi bebida y no me la reemplazaron. Cuando recibimos la cuanta nos dimos cuenta que nos estaban cobrando por sides que estaban incluidos en los platos que ordenamos. Por arruinar nuestra cena y el vestido de la cumpleañera la floor manager dijo que descontaría $40 de agua (que no pedimos) y las 2 bebidas que le tiraron a la cumpleañera. Ni siquiera ofrecieron pagar dry cleaning. Pedí hablar con un higher manager pero no estaba disponible y lo único que me dieron fue un email general. Located inside of a Hotel in the Miramar section of San Juan, Ariel restaurant impressed me with their customer service and attentive wait staff, good value for excellent food, and the background music comprised of American pop-music LOL! My meal and service were excellent but the music made me feel like I was in a nightclub or discotheque LOL... I didn't mind the choice of music but it did seem rather amusing given it is a fairly classy restaurant. BTW the breakfast and coffee was spot-on. read more

Although located off lobby of Marriott Courtyard through unmarked door, this place is a treasure that is highly regarded by the locals. When I was there it had just received AAA 4 diamond award. They said they were only 1 of three given the award in the island. My understanding is they also have occasional wine pairing dinners. I had the lunch special for $39 which was a 3x course meal with seafood pot pie that had side dish of beautifully prepared asparagus (see picture), a wedge salad and a delicious mixed fruit cobbler (see picture). Reviews are misleading and I love Yelp reviews. Huge miss on my part for not noticing this was at a Courtyard Marriot. From entrance to our exit I was disappointed to say the least. Four dollar signs is a joke. Nothing there is worth 1.75. I may sound like a snob but I know canned food that lacks flavor. Husbands ordered meals and everything lacked flavor. Waiter was nice but lacked class for the price tag on the menu. Bathrooms, staff appearance and food do not match the award given in 2016. The diamond award should be reevaluated or they are just handing them out to just any restaurant with a can of beans. Do not go dressed up. Just don't go. The only positive I have is the seasoned butter for the bread was great. Also the Evian water served at the table is not Evian. Oh it cost $20. I drink 1-2L of that water daily when home and it taste nothing like that. If you want upscale phenomenal gourmet cuisine go to Marmalade for an unforgettable experience. read more
