a MUST for breakfast or lunch!!! Our server was mary and she was soooo sweet and attentive! We drank coffee, and ate french toast, egg omelettes, eggs, bacon and i don't know what else but the pastry was next door and within the same building. They also make coffee there. i bought like 8 different ones to share and they were a hit!

The wait time is usually long, the tables are very crowded considering Covid-19. However, the food was great and would come back just for the food, tho the service was extremely slow. If you have no plans for the day and time isn't something you must be worried about then highly recommend.

This restaurant is great vibes and like everything in life YOU set the MOOD and control the eventual outcome of the experience. If you get the missed dish with a spot or a fork with a bent tine or even a real fly in the soup, (it really can happen and does) how YOU react to the situation will control the mood and outcome of your dining experience. Once upon a time there was a person know as Emily Post. A respected personality in manners, mannerism and being proper. Everyone respected what her good sense crafted. Well today it is sort of lost and along with that the loss of respect and the loss of work ethics has changed the ways of society and respect for each other. If EVERYONE would play by upstanding social rules, all restaurants would be equal to La Boulangerie and always have 5 STARS with a few petty complaints. Here I have set my MOOD to control the outcome of a GREAT experience BECAUSE I DID NOT GET ENOUGH FRENCH TOAST TO FILL MY BELLY! ! ! Although the bananas did help. Spent $35 on pastries on the way out to gluttonize on when we Ubered back to apartment. YUMMY ! ! ! ! ! Sinful :

Billed as ""Boulangerie Bistro", this faux French restaurant falls short on both counts. Tried it for a late breakfast with my wife and ordered their Eggs Benedict. The acidic Hollandaise topped an insipid pair of eggs that left you wanting in every way. The wife's quiche was equally uninspired for a restaurant bordering on pretentiousness. The decor is simple and nice, and the servers were prompt and attentive. I had heard good comments about this place, and I am left wondering if this was the chef's day off. Still, Eggs Benedict on a French Bistro calls for tasty farm-fresh eggs, not boxed factory cackle. As a bakery, you have a large selection of small and pricey breads to choose from. Unfortunately, there are few places for specialty breads in San Juan, so they are not motivated by competition.

We both had pancakes, huge, thick, and buttery heaven on a plate. Had to wait over 20 minutes for a table which was well worth the wait, only because we had free time on our hands. A bit expensive for brunch, but again, really good food.

This was my to go place until today, I frequent the place at least once to twice a week and today, Sunday which is usually packed I waited to get somethings to go and when I go to eat it my drink which was a Perrier was already open with half of it already missing, this is disgusting and unconsidered giving the for what I paid for one little bottle you could buy two big ones. May never go again

This place used to be my favorite! We went there for brunch and it wasn't as good anymore. I ordered Eggs Benedict and my yolks were over cooked. Talk about a let down! The waitress asked me to take it back but I was starving and we had been waiting for a bit. The place was full. Everybody else's breakfast was done right. Oh and the potatoes that came with my eggs benedict were amazing! My mom's sandwich, the fougasse, did not have basil (it's suppose to). When she noticed she told the waitress. The waitress went out of her way and went to their garden to get basil. Service was excellent!! And their mimosas are lovely!! With fresh OJ!!! They are a bit pricey but made to perfection.

Outstanding breakfast. French bread was amazing. Feel free to visit but get there before 10 AM since it does get crowded.

Food is very good. Service slow. Ambiance is crowded and no view at all. French bread gets dry too soon. Pastries are certainly good!

I also feel compelled to review because we went to this restaurant on the strength of the 4.8 star rating. However, our experience was more in line with the 1-2 star reviews. Building is an old church, we found. I suspected that because of the stained glass around and the layout of dining room. It can get pretty loud in the dining room. At some point early in the service I felt I needed my earplugs. So, I put them in. You order via QR code on the table from your phone. Then.....the...wait....begins. We're seated at 11:18am. Order in around 11:30am. We finally got drinks at 12:09pm (39min). Drinks were really good, had the Ginger Turmeric Shot, Chia Latte, Cappuccino & Passion Fruit Juice. We thought that was a sign of more good things to come. Food arrived at 12:41. 30min later. Now, after waiting for 1hr9min, if the food comes out and it's bangin', all is forgiven and the drop in service is just a small blip in the experience. However... The Food: Chai Pancakes Pumpkin Pancakes Veggie Scrambled Eggs The EGGS were good. But nothing I couldn't do easily in my own kitchen. The Chai pancakes were the worst pancakes I've ever had. Far too much spices added and dry, dry, dry! I had one bite. One. Pushed it off. My wife had the Pumpkin Pancakes. She only had a few bites. "Have some of mine." I tried them. Weird flavor and gummy. She then said "Yeah, I didn't like them, either." Pushed the plate away. Funny that they make you PAY and TIP at the beginning of the meal. So, no matter how good or bad your experience is, they get their money. And this terrible experience cost us $68.00. $68 for breakfast!! Most of which didn't get eaten. There's no incentive for them to improve. And because of that...we will not be back. So the drinks, good. Eggs, good. Everything else WTF?? Oh, I almost forgot, you get your own water from their water station. A filtered water dispenser machine. Which seemed okay at the time. But it's just one more thing that the servers didn't have to do to deserve a tip. Terrible experience. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend. 1.5

We sat down for dinner at 7:45 and did not receive our drinks until 8:20, even though we put in our order as soon as we sat down... and asked politely how much longer until our drinks would come out... twice. Food did not come out for an hour and half, it was cold by the time we got it. Mac and cheese is not great cold. The ribs are extremely overcooked and like eating beef jerky. Drinks were okay, but by the time we got them everyone's cocktails were watered down, as well as the soft drinks. The ambiance was not great either since everyone around us was visibly frustrated by the wait times and lack of service, a table across flagged the waitress multiple times to ask where their stuff was. The food was decent, but again, cold. The wait times were no joke. We wrapped up our 7:45 dinner around 10, simply because of how long it took to be served. Our waitress came to our table maybe 3 times total, we would have to stand and find her to figure out where our food/drinks were. They were also out of a good majority of items on the menu when we tried to order them. Overall I unfortunately don't recommend! Price, service, and food are not great.

This is global techniques blended with locally sourced Puerto Rican ingredients. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. I was there to celebrate my birthday (a reservation is a must). I asked if I could be seated in a different section of the restaurant, and even though they were packed, they said absolutely and found me a lovely seat in the bar area. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I suffer from severe food allergies but wanted to experience their tasting menu. My server spoke to the chef directly and then took the time to walk me through every option. I TRULY appreciated that they did not take anything off the menu but rather told me how they could adjust for my allergies. That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! What I also noticed was, even though they were insanely busy, they didn't make you feel rushed. The invited you to savor the experience - which I did. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, but we opted to sit inside for the ambiance, which turned out to be a great call. Service was excellent from start to finish. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and gave great recommendations. We decided to go all in on the $85 per person tasting menu. The food ranged from good to very good, and there was a *lot* of it. Standout dishes for me were the ceviche and the desserts, both of which were exceptional. The beef empanadas and breadfruit gnocchi were also highlights. My one criticism is that the tasting menu didn't feel particularly cohesive. We started with yellowfin tuna, moved on to wood-roasted fish, then suddenly shifted into Italian territory with breadfruit gnocchi in a rich buttery sauce before continuing on to beef steak and duck. Individually, many of the dishes were delicious, but together they felt more like a sampler of the restaurant's assortment of dishes rather than a thoughtfully sequenced tasting menu with a clear theme or progression. That said, the quality of the food, generous portions, and outstanding service made for a very enjoyable evening. If you're looking to experience a wide range of the kitchen's offerings, Cocina Abierta delivers.
