The place is very intimate, with space for probably 6 couples. Reservations are recommended. Their wine list is spectacular for a small restaurant in San Juan, with lots of eclectic choices. The French selections are impressive. The food is, to turn a phrase, to die for. Classically prepared, with amazing presentation. They have both classic dishes and Puerto Rican staples. The dining room is rather small so a reservation is definitely recommended and not difficult to get using OpenTable. We had a reservation and were seated right away when we walked in. Our drink order was taken immediately by the nice waitress Nicole. I had the best margarita, it tasted so delicious. We ate the Shrimp Aguachile and the Mussels Tarragon. this was our first breakfast in Puerto Rico, and I did not disappoint. It seems as if this place was tucked in a hotel, and it had a private entrance. It was gorgeous on the inside and very intimate. I believe you're the only ones there, or they had just opened up. Our server was very polite and helpful when it came to narrowing down our choices. I had the French toast, and I've never had it prepared this way, but it was delicious. someone else had eggs, Benedict, eggs, and bacon, and fruity drinks were served around the whole table. I am so glad my sister and I found this beautiful gem on our trip to Puerto Rico. The food was a 10/10. We ate at Niche every night we were there because we were addicted. The octopus was flawless every single time (I still can't stop thinking about it). The crab cakes were like nothing I've ever had before. Chef Carlos is top tier. Yelp didn't fail us with recommendations for Niche. We called and made reservations at 8pm. It was a 10 minute walk to get there from our condo, located down a nice small side street close to the water. Chef David greeted us and marked us off his weathered spiral notepad. The place holds maybe 10 tables, very intimate. We started with cocktails-I had the martini with goat cheese stuffed olives and my husband a mojito. Both were fantastic. Appetizer: Yellowfin Tuna Tartar-was fresh and placed atop seaweed salad. The salad wasn't too salty, like others we've tried before. We also shared a house salad. We celebrated our 31st Wedding Anniversary dinner here, so I say that to say, I've been a few places. This is a small place, but the size allows the staff to deliver exemplary service. The attention to details were great. I've worked in the service industry before, so I was testing them with the way I was just fumbling around my table....they checked on us, I drunk my wine really fast after they had JUST FILLED our glasses, both servers and bartender filled our glasses. The service was exceptional and we had a really down to earth conversation with the entire staff. We're at a point in our lives and relationship where we are experiencing unusual things. We tried Octopus for the first time. The ambience was simple but so simple that it's jaw dropping. My wife mouth dropped when we walked in, as this is not a normal setup....she was pleasantly surprised. I'm so glad I found this place to share our 31st Wedding Anniversary memories with us. Got told it was a 2 hour wait for a party of 6 when there was clearly seats available. According to yelp this place is causal attire, but it seemed to be more classy than that. While we were not dressed fancy like the patrons already sat down and eating, we were aware of the higher prices. We are all from the states besides one friend who grew up here in Puerto Rico. An employee thinking none of us could speak Spanish basically said "don't let them in." It showed very poor customer service turning away eager customers ready to pay. It was especially disrespectful since they said it in Spanish thinking we would not understand. Turning away paying customers in such a rude way is not a good way to run a business. We were greeted by name when we walked in, and presented with a hearty wine and cocktail menu (I ordered a glass of Resiling). We started with a tuna tartare cleanser.
