It's very short, about .5 miles and there's virtually no elevation. Parking is right off the highway. Some hike deeper into the forest and actually make their way on top of the bridges. Unfortunately some have also died doing so. Know your limits. There is a trail beyond the paved path and at some point it gets very steep and sketchy. This is where you should stop and turn around. It's best to enjoy these bridges from a distance and find much safer hikes to take which there are many of in this area. Happy hiking!

Back again to this remote campground 7 years later, this time in an RV. Sites have water and…read moreelectric, and can be reserved through ReserveAmerica. I recommend reserving in advance. Although some sites were available, campers without reservations had to change sites in order to stay more than one night. And on a Saturday in June, the campground was completely full, even though the weather was less than ideal. In addition to campsites, there are a couple of small cabins here that can be rented. The sites are spacious and private. We walked from our site down to the beach, but it is a bit of a hike; so the next time we drove down the narrow road to the parking area. Cars are allowed to drive onto the sand, but the road down is rough, so you best be driving a high-clearance vehicle if you want to drive on the beach. With so many campgrounds situated near highways, or train tracks, the quiet at this campground was so welcome. While you are here, make sure to visit the Camp Blanco lighthouse and the Historic Hughes House.

This park has a lot to offer. It's tucked away not far from Agate Beach. There's a playground with…read moreswings, tennis courts (with pickleball painted lines but no nets), a disc golf course, a basketball court, a baseball field, and even a horse arena. There's a small clubhouse but it's not obvious if it's in use or reservable. The bathrooms are padlocked and look like they haven't been open in years. One of the coolest things I've seen at a park is right here: a cabinet with sports equipment you can borrow. There are golf clubs and balls, tennis rackets and balls, and even a baseball glove.

The correct spelling is MEYERS BEACH (please see my photograph of the big sign next to this beach). Strangely enough, the YELP website will not accept any posts unless the name of the place matches the spelling on GOOGLE maps. And so, in order to post this review, I am forced to accept the incorrect spelling, "Myers." Let me put this another way. If I go to YELP, and try to search for my review using the correct spelling, "MEYERS BEACH," YELP will not cooperate. But if I go to YELP and type the incorrect spelling (Myers Creek Beach), then YELP will coopreate. MEYERS BEACH NEXT TO ROUTE 101.   Our road trip to Gold Beach included taking the trail through Lady Bird Grove, taking the Skunk Cabbage Trail at Redwoods National Park, taking the trail up and down Trinidad Head (a sea stack in Trinidad), viewing Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City.  At Gold Beach, we stayed at Pacific Reef motel (see my YELP review of this motel).  Early the next day, we returned to Route 101 and headed back home.  As part of this return trip, we took Skunk Cabbage Trail (see my YELP review of this trail) and then stopped at nearby Meyers Beach. ORIGIN OF SEA STACKS.  Sea stacks are formed by erosion of headlands (peninsulas) at the edge of the Pacific Ocean.  As waves approach the shore, they are bent so that, instead of moving towards the shore, they move parallel to the shore.  As a result of the waves moving parallel to the shore the crash into the sides of the peninsula (instead of into the very end of the peninsula).  As a result of this crashing, the sides are completely eroded away, resulting in the free-standing tip of the peninsula.   This free-standing tip is the sea stack.  Regarding the subject of physics of waves, including light waves and ocean waves, the word "refraction" refers to situations where the wave is bent.  Wherever you find a sea stack, it is likely that a ridge projected as a headland only a few thousand years ago (see, Flynn 2003). Sea stacks have particular advantages for use as a tool for measuring erosion of the mainland, where the result of removal is disappearance of beaches and of chunks of cliffs near the seashore.  These advantages are that sea stacks are tall and thin (making it easy to use them as a distinct reference point), and they are widely distributed parallel to the coast.  In addition, the age of sea stacks can be estimated by their distance from the coast (see, McPhillips and Scharer 2021).  Large arches in the ocean originated from sea stacks, where erosion of the sea stack created a tunnel (see, page 33 of Lund).  Using a particular sea stack as a stable marker, it has been determined that erosion of Oregon beaches is about one foot per year (see, page 34 of Dicken).  Some sea stacks are connected to a sea cliff by a thin strip of sand.  This strip of sand is called a, "tombolo" (see, Ehlen).   Squaw Island near Sunset Bay is a sea stack with a tombolo.  In addition to sea stacks, off-shore geological formations include, skerries, marine benches, growlers, and boilers (see, Finkl and Makowski).  A skerry, for example, is a very short sea stack that is too small for human habitation.   REFERENCES  ( 1 ) Kathryn Flynn (Aug. 2003) The Dynamic Oregon Coast: Geologic Features and Where to See them.  Geological Society of America and the USDA Forest Service; ( 2 ) Samuel Dicken (Nov. 1961) ) Some Recent Physical Changes of the Oregon Coast. But no, there is plenty of parking, so much to see, a nice path/loop to walk around and wildlife to explore. This viewpoint also has a bathroom and several pick tables and benches throughout to sit and take advantage of the beautiful views. This will be a stop on all future coastal roadtrips.

Arch Rock Point is (in my opinion) the 2nd most popular stop along Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic…read moreCorridor. The most well known area is Natural Bridges Viewpoint which sits just 1 mile down the road. To discover Arch Rock, you walk a short pathway from the parking lot to an observation lookout. Its unique shaping can be recognized in the distance from the shoreline. According to Patrick Mueller of outdoorproject.com, "Arch Rock is a massive natural rock standing alone in the Pacific Ocean". Viewing it from high above epitomizes Oregon's rugged coastline resiliency. Years of pounding waves and natural erosion created a distinctive arch within the rock. It's a fine example which displays nature's true power and force. Arch Rock Viewpoint offers a worthwhile picture chance when the sun's reflections illuminates colorful green tones from the surrounding waters. In total, you can spend 20 minutes enjoying the moment and basking in fresh air from strong Pacific Ocean winds. Also if interested, there's a picnic area and hiking access to the Coastal Trail according to the Arch Rock Point entrance sign. One extra note to speak about...when returning back to the parking lot from the viewpoint area, the right hand side of the walkway had a good opportunity to absorb more vintage Oregon coastline perspectives. With giant rocks spread among a pristine ocean point setting, the surroundings never get old. On a larger scale, it reinforces the beauty exploring the great outdoors and a gentle reminder to never take things for granted.
