I went into Arizona Drum Shop with the crappiest old pearl snare. The person that helped me was very nice and helpful. Apparently i had a batter head on the snare side! Doh! I was able to leave with the snare side head and a brand new "that flippy floppy thing" for 50ish bux... As soon as I installed the filppy thang and the head a did some proper tuning my snare sounded like a snare again! I only went in thinking I only needed the flippyfloppy and im glad i got the advice about installing a proper head. Cheaper than buying a used snare off facebook and inheriting its problems! Totally worth the trip for all parts! I plan to go back to get a new clutch and other tiddly winks. They have everything! Stopped in to Arizona Drum Shop yesterday for the first time. I have been a drummer for 58 years...played them all, been to every music store in Arizona. I'd heard good things about Ron from a fellow drummer who had recently purchased a kit from him. While there aren't a lot of drum sets on display, there was a lot of cool stuff to see... a great selection of parts, accessories, hardware, snare drums, etc. Ron was very friendly and helpful. His prices are more than fair. He stocks tons of great drums too. I really liked the DW "Frequent Flyer" kit he has on display there. Beautiful kit in Cherry Wood Finish. I am so glad I found this place and was not stuck getting ripped off at a big box store like Guitar Center. Not only were they able to offer consultation on picking my perfect kit, the offered price was over $200 below ANYWHERE on the internet! Not only that, when the kit arrives, he is going to quality test it and tune it up for me. Alls I gotta do is swing by the store and pick it up. After reading one of the reviews below, I was expecting to have a rough time finding the shop. The address on the small shopping center was clear as can be and as soon as I pulled in the lot the Arizona Drum Shop sign was right there. YAY! Ron is a pleasure to work with. His easy going style complements his vast knowledge of the percussion industry. Ron doesn't try to impress you with his insights, he reads the situation properly and offers the information and guidance one needs to make an informed decision. He did not have the parts and said if they were available it would require to large an order to make any sense. He then recommended a shop out of the area who could possibly help. Let me just say this. Ron from Arizona drum shop is as good as it can possibly get. Here is what happened. I ordered my Yamaha set from Guitar center. I found out that the shipping will take a MONTH because it is a popular model (Birch custom Honey Amber). Arizona drumshop had it so I called Ron. He was friendly and really helpful so I cancelled the order from GC and ordered from Ron. Let me tell you, when i got my package from Ron few days later, I almost cried because of how WELL PACKAGED it was. Now this was an EFFORT! He understood how important a set is to a drummer. it was TRIPLE PACKED and filled with all kinds of bubble wraps and such to make sure that it will get to me unharmed. I already know that Guitar Center would have just slapped the shipping label on the original box and just ship it to me, which isn't a bad thing. But Ron took that to the next level, put TWO more boxes on it and kill it with all kinds of protective material knowing its going to California. Price is very good and he is very helpful. Surprised that it is not a HUGE chain like a GC! Musicians should support a person like Ron who truly cares about his customers like it is his own drumset! way, way, way better than what GC would have done. Ron, the owner of Arizona Drum is a great guy, nice, personable, and really knows his stuff when it comes to drums. His prices are excellent, and he takes the time to find the right drum, cymbal, or pedal to fit your needs, all around great service. His shop does have a lot of small parts that GC would never carry, so that is excellent. However, and this is why I gave him 4 stars instead of 5. His store is pretty much in the worst location you can imagine for a business, there is NO sign out front on Scottsdale Rd., and he is located in the hidden very back corner of a fairly vacant, slightly seedy strip mall, not visible from the street, if you didn't know it was there, you'd NEVER find his shop. Second, most if his business seems to be online, so his store is not very well stocked when it comes to gear, particularly sticks. He has a few models of Vic Firth sticks and that's about it, a few lower level snare drums, no drumsets to try out and a handful of cymbals. Everything has to be ordered, and sticks & cymbals especially are things you want to try in person before buying, that isn't possible at Arizona Drum. To sum up, if you know what you want and can wait for it, Ron has a great shop and great prices, but if you are looking to pick up some sticks, or try out some new cymbals, snares etc..you will not find it at Arizona Drum. read more

I'll start by saying that I'm not very experienced with drums although I have put a lot of hours into pad-work and really have a passion for rhythm. I generally just wanted to shop around for a drum shop that would be higher quality than my experiences at guitar center and i figured that a locally owned shop would be the place. I expected someone who was going to be knowledgeable and welcoming. There were a few items that I was potentially interested in, but the whole visit I couldn't shake the feeling that the older gentleman running the place just did not want me there and he gave me half-assed answers when I asked questions. I get that people in these kind of retail environments are drilled with the same stupid questions over and over and it must get tiring, but I am genuinely new to this particular industry and don't necessarily know the right questions to ask or the correct terminology to use. If I'm not asking the right questions you could at least try to re-direct the topic with your knowledge and background in the industry towards a constructive conversation. I noticed he had a bunch of drum sticks laid out at the front counter that looked like they had been used and a practice pad nearby. Sticks were on my list of things that I was looking for and he was talking to another customer so I figured that maybe he just wanted to make sure that the other people were taken care of and I politely asked if I could try out a pair of sticks with the pad to which he said was fine. I went through a few rolls and a little basic rudiment with the sticks figuring I could take my time and really get a feel for the mechanics of the sticks while he was busy. As I finish with the first set of sticks(which couldn't have taken more than a minute or two) I set them back down and as he is passing me by he says something along the lines of "those aren't for your workouts". I'm a complete stranger that walked into your shop looking for a place that would want to earn my business and keep it for a long time. Sadly, this is very far from the experience that I got. The whole visit was really uncomfortable and I will definitely keep looking for better places in town after this experience. read more
