This was a wonderful evening with great friends, in a beautiful quaint historic atmosphere, live saxophone player in the bar across from the main dining room where we sat. It gave a lovely backdrop to great conversation that was able to be heard at our large table of 8. An older couple dancing in the lounge was so adorable, they earned our applause unknowingly. conversation flowing as good as the accompanying drinks, delicious fare, a well versed host/waiter. It's been about 6 weeks since we ate at the Arizona Inn dining room. Before Covid we loved the food at the dining room. The problem was the service was not good. Took over an hour to receive our entree. My wife had to ask the front desk if something happened to our order. After we were done our waiter was no where in site for a very long time. The food was good but assume since they recently reopened the dining room they are working through staffing issues. Hope they make service improvements. read more

Over the years we've stayed at a wide variety of the luxurious rooms. Each stay has been unique and a marvel treat. This place used to be my go to place .... Five years ago (ie before COVID .....) ..... the place had a great chef really outstanding food and well worth the price ..... since Covid ..... the menu has greatly shrunk. The quality is the best adequate.... The place hugely overpriced. .... The hamburger here which I believe is their signature dish is not better than In-N-Out Burger .... But at five times the price ..... since Steve Kerr and associates apparently have purchased a place as far as I can tell nothing has changed ..... other than it's much more expensive. The food is adequate at best and highly overpriced, , the service slower. As far as I can tell, most of the clientele are overpaid administrators at the University of Arizona ..... dining there who are not paying the tab .... Your tax dollars at work. When Steve Kerr took over the place, he promised an amazing renovation and getting back to its roots ..... none of this has been accomplished ..... totally overpriced, downright bad food and other than a name ..... they would not exist. read more

This place is underrated! We are guests that stayed here last year and came back this year. It is fine dinning restaurant that is truly that. White tablecloths, professional servers and excellent food. We've tried many things on the menu and enjoyed everything! The filet mignon is particularly fantastic! The Arizona Inn has been a favorite for nearly 40 years. It had gotten a little rough around the edges, so I was thrilled when I found out that it had been sold to a local consortium, who announced plans to renovate and refurbish. Alas, so much for high hopes...It has been three days since I reserved a room and have been waiting for a confirmation with dates, daily rate, resort fee and taxes with a total for cost of my two night stay - the standard for even a two or three star hotel! Too long to go into detail, but this appears to be something their new computer system is incapable of furnishing. I have called 15 or 20 times, occasionally getting a human who promises to look into the situation but does not follow up. Most of the time they simply do not answer the phone. After 4 rings an answering machine picks up. Even if you leave a message, they do not call back. Nor does Patrick, the Front Desk Manager, nor Brad, the General Manager. (NB: this is their only number - for reservations, the restaurant, anything..and there is no phone tree) I finally gave up and booked what appears to be a charming inn (The Armory Park...NB: the Manager herself answered the phone after 2 rings, was delightful, worked with me on the rate and confirmed my reservation within 2 minutes of making it!!!). I have been trying off and on for 5 hours to cancel my reservation at the Arizona Inn but guess what...I keep getting the answering machine!!! So sad about this as the grounds, gardens and accommodations are lovely. The staff and management, however, are clearly indifferent and seemingly, incompetent. What a disappointment... read more

I came here for dinner last night and sat in the Audubon bar since there was live piano music. I ordered dinner from the main dining room though so I will review the main dining room here. The seared ahi tuna appetizer was a little spicy and it was delicious but I forgot how tiny the portions are for their appetizers. I would suggest ordering an appetizer for each person. The Seared Skin Bay Salmon didn't have much flavor on its own, but at least it wasn't fishy. I did not like the fried avocado, I would prefer it uncooked. But all the accompaniments when mixed with the salmon made the bite taste good. My dining companion ordered the Filet mignon steak frites medium well so I can't really judge it since I like it medium rare. It didn't taste like it had much flavor though. I did not like the sauce (veal reduction) they drizzled over the fries, it tasted burnt. I'm sad they no longer have the duck I loved last time, but that was years ago. I recommend trying the Hemingway Daiquiri. It was so good. read more

Stayed at the Arizona Inn a few weeks ago. If you all are wondering why the fine dining since 1930 has been replaced by horrible food (probably from Costco), zero room service, if you want a bucket of ice you can go get it yourself, coffee you can serve yourself from the library, and if you need to reach anyone on the room phone, including the front desk, good luck. The charm of the place is hanging on but that's about it. Basically, you're on your own with a cute room which is totally overpriced considering you have zero service support. The new owners most likely have ruined this special place. I won't be going back after staying there for over ten years. It's very sad. read more

Every part of this meal was marvelous. We were seated quickly at a beautiful outdoor patio that provides a pretty view of the unique Inn in which the restaurant is. The ambiance was fantastic with the sunny weather outside and live piano for the indoor area. I ordered a fish special and it was amazing. The servers were responsive and helped make this a special place to grab a bite to eat. The plating was breathtaking and the cook of the fish and flavor of the meal screamed elegance. It wasn't the cheapest place in Tucson, but if you are staying here you have to try this restaurant out. There are less expensive, more basic options on the menu, but any special is absolutely worth a shot. read more

As many Tucson natives know, one goes to the Arizona Inn for the ambiance, not for the food. It is delightful to sit in the bar or out on the patio for a drink to celebrate the beauty and history of the Inn. There is nothing like it in Tucson and I hope, now that it has been sold, that nothing will change but the food. A friend and I went for the Sonora Week lunch. Both ordered the burgers and fries, flan dessert for me, chocolate cake for her. The burgers were passable, the fries straight out of a crinkle cut frozen bag from Safeway and not even hot and crispy. Really good pickle spear on the side. All done better at any fast food burger shop (recommendation Dave's Lotta Burger). I ordered the sad little rubber disc smothered in cinnamon that they passed off as a flan. It was garnished with old defrosted mixed berries, limp and discolored. Adding insult to the dish was a recently defrosted, heavy, soggy little pastry whose cream filling was actually gray. I put this down to, perhaps, no chef in the kitchen and no real investment in the Sonoran Week menu, only $45 for two. But, $22.50 plus tax and tip would get me a much higher quality lunch at most good restaurants. The service was great, the environment lovely old school, and we could actually talk to each other without shouting. That is worth a lot. read more

We have always wanted to stay at the historic Arizona in so we took advantage of the end of summer off season rates for a two-day getaway. We were greeted warmly by a very personable young woman, Emma who made us feel very welcomed. This morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast which was served by the delightful Bri, so friendly and genuinely warm and attended to us very efficiently. Warm and genuine is the theme of the personnel here. The grounds and furnishings really transport you back in time. Now we will go enjoy the pool before it gets too hot. read more

The Arizona Inn is a Tucson tradition and beautiful historic property, their grounds are well maintained, and the inn itself is a fun step back in time. A fun place to recommend for out of town visitors who would opt to stay local instead of at a chain hotel if they want to be near The University or Central Tucson. If you're not staying at the hotel you can still dine on their patio. On my visit, I enjoyed their turkey sandwich more than other hotels I've eaten at. Some of my friends were underwhelmed with their entrees like the chicken sandwich but we chalked it up to the fact that dining at the Arizona Inn is more for the experience than food. Like many hotel restaurants, entrees are on the more expensive side so just be prepared for that! read more

I keep checking back to see if the Arizona Inn has decided to get back to being the wonderful In that it was. We were regulars for quite awhile, but were seeing what we came to expect drop off. We gave it another try in 2022, and with the main dining room closed and the bar closed on NYE at 9 P.M., it was clear that they were not ready for prime time. Going from outstanding service, great accommodations, breakfast in bed, homemade marmalade, to what it was in 2022, was so disappointing. Grounds are beautiful. Food was good. I can't speak for the rest of the rooms, but room 129 smells like cat pee. It's a $350/night patio room and we had to crack all the windows and open both doors. We left our front door open, cracked both windows and opened the back door (hotel can get a bonus star for being very safe). Came back from dinner and it still smells like cat pee. The hotel is supposed to be historic, not dilapidated. If you get room 129, go ahead and tell the desk to downgrade you or find a different patio room. It's gross. read more

I went to the Arizona Inn with a friend for lunch. I wanted a shrimp cocktail but they were out of shrimp. No big deal, I ordered a Ruben Sandwich. It was very good and my side of fries were some of the best fries I have eaten in a long time. The service was very good, yes the prices are high. Very few people were in the restaurant at the time, which was early afternoon. The gift shop has beautiful items but almost without exception too expensive for my wallet. It's a lovely piece of history. However it does smell like a very old hotel. Not sure cleaning the carpets would help. read more

I love the Arizona Inn. I'm not quite sure what is happening there. Bar and servers are wonderful. The bellman Will has to be the worst bellman/porter I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. He is always on his phone, doesn't open the door, doesn't lift a finger to help with bags, but will gladly accept a tip. A few friends and I stopped by for dinner. The patio and the Audubon bar is open. We ordered the pork belly bun, Caesar salad and Vichyssoise soup. The pork belly buns come 3 to an order. The pork was juicy and the skin was crispy. The bun was nice and soft, very good. The Caesar salad came with anchovies and croutons, it was a good size. Loved the vichyssoise soup. It was served cold sitting on ice. Great flavor. Service was attentive. The manager, Kurtis stopped by a few times to check on us, great service. We sat in the library after dinner with the large Christmas tree and roaring fire. It was nice to relax with friends. read more

Lovely hotel in a historical quiet part of Tucson. Quite spacious rooms, very classy, equipped with a small library. There is table tennis, croquet and clay tennis on the premises, in wonderfully maintained gardens. Tea is offered in the morning and evening in the common library - a beautiful wood paneled room with tall ceilings and exposed wooden beams, big windows, comfortable furniture and a fireplace. By far, my favorite room in any hotel I've ever been to. The restaurant is lovely, but we decided to dine at the bar/lounge. Loved the live music and relaxing atmosphere, was a perfect end of very busy days during our stay. All about this hotel reminded of typical midwestern hospitality, sprinkled with luxury and comfort. I will certainly go back next time I am in Tucson, and will plan to stay past my business travel. read more

Cool hotel, potentially, but the room was oppressively musty due to either the ancient curtains, the fabric wing chairs, or maybe the 1980s carpet. It smelled so bad we had to open all the windows while we were at dinner. Since we were only there for one night and were leaving very early, we stayed. The sad thing is that it was an "upgrade" offered by the desk manager who had to have known it was a bad room. The library tea is nice but the dirty plates weren't bussed for over two hours. I had to move dirty plates to be able to set my own down. The bar looked inviting but, again, a lot of dirty glasses and dishes on every table. Easy parking. Two stars for history and library. Overall, an interesting place but badly needs some TLC. I would not stay here again. read more

My husband and I stopped by several times over the last year and a half to have dinner here. We were finally able to have dinner in the bar area a few months ago. But you still can't sit at the bar. How stupid is that! Problem is that when we did eat here, the manager was stalking us, was not friendly and was actually hostile. The food was mediocre and We haven't been back. We spent a lot eating here. No more. I don't know what's going on with this establishment but ever since this Covid CRAP hit Tucson, where they made a decision to shut the restaurant down to outside customers then they limited their times serving and now its open part of the time that it was previously open, its gone downhill and the food quality and staff have changed also. Much as I love the Arizona Inn and have had good meals in the past, this time was very disappointing. I was with a group of 20 people celebrating a friend's birthday in a separate room. Our drink order was taken first but it took quite a bit to have the food order taken. The prickly pear mimosa was very good and would recommend that. I ordered the lemon granola pancakes off the brunch menu and asked if I could also have some berries. The first set of pancakes they gave me were burnt pretty badly and all I could taste was the burnt taste. I didn't get any maple syrup that time but did get a dish of berries ($5.00 was charged). The second set of pancakes was about as bad. There was one pancake on the bottom that wasn't so burnt and I was able to scrape the burnt top off of another so that I could actually get the lemon flavor which I would have loved to enjoy. I didn't want to send them back again as by then about 2 hours had passed and I was hungry so scraped off what I could. To the credit of the waiter, he noticed and said he talked to his manager and they wouldn't charge me which I did appreciate. Others at our table did enjoy their meal-a chicken salad, short rib eggs benedict, a New York strip and the cornflake French toast. One person had a burger that was dry and tough but she was given a turkey sandwich to replace it. I'd give fewer stars had I not been there for good meals in the past or if others didn't like their meal. I'm being generous based on the food. Despite the meal, the ambiance is lovely. I especially enjoy going into the library which is nicely decorated with a large Christmas tree. The main dining room is very nice and has a fireplace at one end. They have kept up the Inn very nicely given its age. It's worth a visit and if you get a different meal, you might really love it. read more

Two pieces of advice. Eat outside. And get the pappardelle pasta. But do not expect the staff to move tables so you can sit more people together than they have already set up. And no you cannot move the tables yourself either. And they will not honor your specific request when you reserve ahead of time. We made a reservation for six people to sit in the shade outside. When we arrived there were no tables for six outside in the shade. Are you still with me? We found a table outside all by ourselves that was round and good enough for six and moved it mostly into the shade on a very sunny day. Fortunately I had a big hat. Nobody else was wild about their food and my pasta dish was outstanding. Everybody wished they had ordered that also. Service was good and once again my pasta was delicious. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had anywhere. Not so great for my friends. My prior experience dining at the Arizona in for over 25 years was always disappointing and I had vowed not to return there. I will go back anytime now eat that pasta again as long as I don't expect to sit where I expect to sit. Super delicious and amazing gluten free and vegetarian options! I had the vegetarian burger on a gluten free bun! So yummy and a perfect portion size with delicious fries. My mom had the chickpea cakes and the sautéed vegeteables that came alongside it were to die for! There was even live music playing and we sat on the gorgeous patio. Delicious and charming! Update! We statues here again this weekend and I ordered the vegetarian burger again and it was just as delicious!! For breakfast I had avocado toast this time (gluten free) and it was also delicious. I mainly booked a one day staycation to enjoy the pool with my family. We were the only ones at the pool and they told us to turn off the music. Not turn it down but off. Pool party music not even offensive or disruptive music. Other guests were enjoying themselves at the pool too nothing seemed wrong and a staff member came and asked us "Are you guys even guests here?". I didn't see him ask anyone else and what a coincidence that we were the only younger Hispanic family there. A bit rude. Also, at 6am our alarm clock went off and when we turned it off we could hear the other alarm clocks in empty rooms beside us going off. That did not sit well with my 1 and 3 year old. Yes historic and clean but will find a better fit for us next time. read more

I am incredibly disappointed that the venerated Arizona Inn has fallen to be a shabby shadow of her former glory. I've stayed here in the past and the grounds were manicured, the service was impeccable and it was a wonderful experience. It seems now that there are echos of what it used to be, the staff is pleasant, but not helpful, the rooms are spacious, but smell musty and look tired. The hotel is simply a shadow of its former self. There is no longer food & drink service at the pool. In fact there is not even room service for a Saturday afternoon cocktail and snack. This is simply unacceptable. When questioned about this at 4:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday, the front desk informed me that there was no manager present, he had left for the day and would be back on Monday. This is after we were unable to get drinks or service at the pool on Friday afternoon. This is why the foothills resorts are taking over. The pleasant young woman was unapologetic and let me know that I could walk down to the bar and schlep a couple of drinks back to my room. No Mamager, no service, NO THANKS! I'm guessing that they have vending machines on order for the hallways and by the pool so as to rise to the level of service that I can get at the motel 6. We should all take a moment to mourn the loss of this grand old lady, but to be clear the queen has died and the successor is the idiot nephew that people whisper about. It would be nice if there was a leader or plan in place to carry on the tradition of what was once a very fine establishment. Sadly it seems that they are content to exist based on their former reputation and slide into inevitable decline. This is sad, but beware if you decide to stay here that you will be receiving a room and a bed, that is it. read more

We sat at the main bar area and had drinks before being serviced lunch, we had to keep on waving away the flies as we were eating, I guess and old resort maybe not anyway to keep insects out of there facility. Manager at hotel denied us a trash can. I was here for a CareerMD event. I politely asked for a trash can. A female manager of the hotel came to me and in the most full-of-herself way said, "we've hosted this event for four years" Mind you, I'm the paying customer. I PAID to be here. I wanted to say, "Well lady I have done this all over the country from New York to California, and I've never been at a venue that denied us trash cans". I think it's really ratchet when trash is overflowing. We were only provided a tiny trash can outside the Tucson conference room. Empty plates were left on tables for over an hour. Gross. I have this local 'bucket list' of places I want to go/try and Arizona Inn was on -- to dine in their dining room. It was two friends birthdays so we decided to do brunch here. The dining room is truly lovely, and you get a feel of nostalgia being in the Inn itself. I had not realized it has been here since 1930. We were seated at the table and immediately provided ice water in these gorgeous blue cobalt glasses and our drink order was taken. It was Sunday late morning so of course, we indulged in some Mimosa's -- I tried both the Prickly Pear Mimosa and the Ruby Mimosa -- and while I did love both, the Ruby Mimosa was incredible and I could have had a few more. 2 of us ordered the Southwestern Benedict, 1 the Huevos Rancheros. ALL of us cleaned our plates if that says anything. The food was beautifully presented on the plate and was very fresh. They even provided us with some fresh pico, that added some nice flavor to my potatoes. Since we were celebrating 2 birthdays, our server indicated the birthday girls could select any dessert off the menu, complimentary. We tried the chocolate cake, pineapple/basil cheesecake, and the Salted Caramel Budino. WOW is all I can say. While all three were fantastic, my favorite was a tie between the Budino and the chocolate cake. Be prepared, they do bring you fingerbowls once you are finished with a plate of truffles. It is hilarious to see the looks on faces that have never been presented with a finger bowl. I have to be honest, the Butternut squash plate for $46 was not tasty. It was dry with very little flavor and the pasta was seared and seemed to be reheated or the pasta wraps were heated by grilling. The waiter never came back around so I was not asked if I wanted anything else to replace it. The waiter was rude, had to ask for both water and bread. When I said I could not eat the ravioli that it did not taste good I had not given any concession on the price of the food.The chef needs to go back to culinary school as this was not gourmet for a well known restaurant . I have had much better Butternut Squash ravioli at the Monteray Bay restaurant in Pittsburgh. We were in a group of 6 and we were going to pay separately except for the husband and wife but the waiter gave the check to the husband at the table and said the computers were not working and he could not give separate checks. 3 of the 4 were paying with credit cards . That was not fair to the Husband at the table as 4 of us were mature adult student artists females and not guests of the man and his wife. Met up with family to have breakfast on Mother'sDay, got seated and then waited for 20 min until someone came and took our order. By the time our waitress came to take our order, another table that had been seated after us had already had their order taken. We all ordered omelettes and they were ok, really nothing to write home about. Never did anyone refilled our water glasses the entire time we were there. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone wanting a good breakfast. Bad service and so so food = not a good experience. read more
