Absolute joke. If you're a new patient, or an amputee, or it takes you longer to get ready in the mornings because you're disabled... make sure to get there 1 hour ahead of the time or they won't see you. Got my appointment scheduled for 8am and showed up 10min early for it. They said because I didn't have their paperwork filled out they couldn't see me and they'd have to reschedule me for next week. I looked at the 26 page paperwork that would probably take me 5 minutes to fill out. Don't get a day off from work usually so I asked if I could fill it out really quick there and they said sure but would have to wait until 1pm to see the next provider. Not to mention there's no seriousness with the ladies behind the desk, as they sit there laughing and joking while they're denying appointments of people who show up 10 min early. read more

Very poor scheduling system. Arrived only 4 minutes late and was turned away, yet when I'm on time I still wait 10+ minutes for the provider. Overbooking excuses don't add up, especially since appointments are only 15 minutes. On top of that, the nonstop calls and texts before the appointment are irritating. Would not recommend. read more

What a joke, they don't return calls, and then when you finally reach somebody which is damn near impossible, they play innocent and say we got a new phone system and we just don't understand it yet.... well that's a real confidence builder for the fact that they're about to go into my spine with a needle anyway once upon a time this company was owned by a different doctor and they weren't bad then they actually had some people that were on the ball, but it's been sold out for a couple of years and my experience now compared to my experience with them 10 years ago is pretty much like day and night they used to be pretty good and now they're worthless... read more

Terrible terrible customer service! Horrible staff Inconsiderate of people's time. They only have a 5 minute grace period even though they will leave you sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes. Due diligence with research is key in finding a great pain clinic or doctor. Regrettably, I did not do my due diligence in this area. I highly caution anyone who is considering going to Arizona Pain Specialists in Glendale. For starters, communication is terrible. They put in referrals that they don't even tell you about in advance. I'm left wondering, why did I get a call from some physical therapy clinic that I've never heard of. PA, John, is as rude as they come. Incompassionate, terrible communicator, short-tempered. The receptionists are typically rude, as well. I have seen many doctors over the last 15 years for my nerve pain condition and this clinic by far is the worst so-called medical establishment I've ever been to. read more

I love the doctors and staff that answers the phone. The only negative thing I have to say is the front desk people are very rude and don't know what's going on. They don't communicate with you then get angry when you walk up to the window and they have to talk to you. The doctors are so nice and listened without judgement of my auto immune disease and the pain I'm having. I have seen multiple drs who tell me to just deal with it but they are so nice here and try to get you out of as much pain as possible. read more

I've been here multiple times over a 3 month time period. I have to say the Doctors were awesome, a few nurses I had contact with were also wonderful. but the rest of the office as MA's were not so friendly and warm. Every call I made to get some forms from passed me to someone else. no one ever did help me and they were unkind in the passing off as if I was the problem. I'd rate them less if I could. Not only did I not get the equipment assigned to me, nor did I get set up for the xrays I was supposed to have but they price gouge! If I wouldn't of had insurance the cost of my visit would have been $117 but since I did they charged my insurance $942! How is it something cost $117 or $942? So are they passing the costs of fees on to people who have insurance knowing the insurance companies will pay the difference? This seems like it would be some sort of fraud but apparently perfectly ok. read more

Don't waste your time coming to this place if you're really in pain, because I did not get relief. Luckily I looked into another option as soon as I walked out of my appointment recently. They insisted on a pee-test before they would proscribe anything, to boot. I was seen by a PA for severe pain due to disk herniation, and they didn't even bother to look at my MRI images (which I had, never left their sleve). When walking out, the whole staff - Dr's and all, were lounging having coffee and chatting in the back around an island/nurses desk, all the while there was a full waiting room. Shame on this place.. leaving people in pain to wait while they lounge and chat! read more

Loved the pa I was seeing there. Then I saw dr Carlson. Not happy at all. He wanted to let me know how important he was. Told me he has written artockescand books. The PA was Victoria ! She knows nothing, I told her she might want to brush up with the Internet .We had the appointment with the DR. Do not go here for pain management, to sum up a very lengthy experience Dr.Carlson didn't even show up to review a MRI , however had a PA review and scheduling a in house surgery to cut his nerves , this is a back and pain in feet issue.I was fortunate to get the appointment and let the PA know they are not doctors they prescription pad and in house surgery money seekers. He has had three other opinions and all are horrified at the thought for a person of my husbands age what they wanted to do, she didn't even look at his back as there was a new issue since the MRI. The same office Dr.Carlsons in speaking with a friend had BACK surgery scheduled for her 83 year old mom, until my friend stepped in and cancelled this could of been crippling for her mom. Her mom needed PT and is walking fine. They are money hungry I'll informed doctors. Dr. Carlson is being reported to AZ Medical Board for reasons I don't care to write but just keep looking at AZ Medical Board to see what develops. read more

This place was not at all what I was expecting. I was told my appointment was going to be at a certain time, but once I got there I waited for 40 minutes without being called in. I asked the receptionist why, and she let me know that actually the time she told me on the phone was my check-in time, and that my actual appointment time was 45 minutes later. I had brought my filled-in paperwork with me, so that time was completely wasted. I ended up waiting almost an hour and a half to get into a room. To me, that tells me that my time isn't valued by their staff. During that time in the waiting room there were four people sitting in the receptionist area doing nothing but talking and eating pizza, and I had to listen to a crazy lady on the phone gossiping about her life. Once I got into a room, I had to go through two physician's assistants, who both acted quite confused and were unable to answer any questions I had about the services they offered. One was sweet but another one had a bit of an attitude. The Dr. didn't seem to have as many options as I thought he would for me, but he was still the light in that terrible place. I suggest he find a position open at another clinic and leave this awful office behind. I'd also like to mention that the way in which the employees here dress is quite unprofessional, and a few looked like they hadn't even showered. That's not what you want to encounter when you're putting your health in someone else's hands. It's clear that they've grown accustomed to patients coming into their clinic wanting drugs to sell, and they've given up on adhering to any standards of professionalism. I'll be taking my pain issues elsewhere, and I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to any other people who actually want relief and support. read more

My first dealing with the Arizona Pain Specialists began in June of this year. I must say that it has been a great pleasure meeting the staff at the Glendale office. Everyone there is kind and considerate. I met Vaughn and Dr. Hogan on my first visit and was impressed that they showed an actual interest in my pain. I am always seen in a timely manner, which I find refreshing. Dr. Hogan has performed 3 procedures total on my lower back and cervical spine and I am happy to say I am seeing wonderful results. I am not yet pain free but the pain has been greatly reduced. I have never had problems making appointments and I am pleased when I get call backs asking how I feel after each procedure. I feel this group really cares! I had elected that each procedure be done without sedation and I must say there was no pain during the procedures. That right there wins my vote with this group! Don't bother coming here. The front office staff are beyond rude, constantly make mistakes with appointments and blames you for it. You schedule an appt, have a reminder card to prove and the appointments just disappear. They refuse to do anything about it. They hang up on you or put you on hold and never come back They will just put you on hold while your talking without telling you and then comes back on and makes you repeat everything you said. No wonder they make mistakes. They don't care about their patients. They are never flexible. They used to be booked nonstop about 3 months ago and now they have appointments open for the next day. Lol. I can see why. The new office staff are the first people you see and talk to and that shows you how your visit will go. Don't waste your time here. I have to start looking for a new doctor. Dr Roth has no availabilities to see you except once a week for half a day and has 2 appointments available even 6 weeks in advance. All he cares about are injections since of course that is where he makes all his money. If you need injections be prepared to be charged anywhere from $300-$1000 for each injection and of course that's x3. The last injection I had done 2 yrs ago by the old Dr there caused me to not be able to walk for 4 weeks after and it didn't do anything. Waste of my $800. Find a different drs office. I can't stand back and not speak my mind now after the way I have been treated after being with this specific drs office for over 10 years and all the nonstop revolving door of new doctors, NP's, nurses, and office personnel including receptionists, that come and go quarterly. There is only one person still there since I started going to that office, Stephanie, and she was so beyond rude and disrespectful to me and ignored me until she was forced to talk to me. This doctors office shouldn't even be in business and I truly hope they won't be for long unless they change how they operate!! Unacceptable! read more

No tests run, no checking for nerve damage, just let's do this and this. Did all the epidurals and nerve burn, for nothing. Got absolutely no relief from my pain. Looking for a pain doctor, These guys looked good. Put in an email request from their website for an appointment. Got a call from a woman asking for my insurance id number. She insisted that I was not giving her the right number as it had to start with a letter. I said we can straighten everything out at my appointment. At that point she insisted I need to be referred from a doctor. I informed her that my insurance does not require a reference. In a nasty voice she said I can call back when I have a reference. I did the research on the doctors and impressed. You can be the worlds best doctor, but if you have a foul nasty staff that scares your clients away why bother? Who knows if these guys are good or not, because obviously they have no control over their staff. read more

I absolutely love this clinic. They have always treated me with respect and are very nice. I've been going to them for over 5 years. I love Dr. Carlson and I will truly miss him when he leaves the practice. He's always so polite. He even told me about once a month migraine shots that I'm now on. I was suffering with migraines for years on a daily basis. Now with the once a month shots I don't get them anymore. Also when he does my blocks, Rfa's and trigger point injections I never leave in pain. I have nothing but good things to say about this clinic. And the surgery center staff is also amazing. I don't have to be on a daily pain medication because of all the Rfa's and injections I've had. I wouldn't be able to walk or function without Arizona Pain Specialist. This review is for the Glendale offices of AZ Pain. This was a cold call appointment with no referral, as my insurance does not require one. Having back problems for the last 10 years of my life I decided it was time to do something about the pain, rather than just going along with the physical therapy option. I made my appointment and showed up on time. The front office staff was pleasant enough, but I could tell they were annoyed with patients, since the lobby was completely full. After waiting roughly 45min I was called back. After a brief (5min) consult with a PA, not even a real doctor, he informed me that I would be taking a drug test. Obviously I objected, as it's really none of their business what I do in my spare time (I smoke bud to calm my nerves from the back pain). After hearing that my treatment would halt immediately if I declined the test, I hesitantly agreed. Well obviously it came back positive for marijuana. The doctor then proceeded to lecture me that if I smoke, or even drink, treatment would stop. He then gave me an agreement to sign saying I would not consume alcohol or anything else while I was in their care. This is completely ridiculous. The PA said very little about a treatment plan other than pain meds and muscle relaxers. I very much disagree with the way they handle their patients. NO privacy is to be had in this office. You can hear every word the staff says throughout the entire office. After that incident, I was waiting for the chiropractor (which I told them I did not want to do). I happened to be flipping through their monthly newsletter & saw an article about the same back problems I have, which included a PERMANENT SOLUTION! I was absolutely shocked to see there was something to be done without having to go through years of torment with PT and pain meds. Why wasn't this offered first before the thousands of dollars of drugs I would have to take from them? Because its all about $$$. I told the PA that I was on a limited income at the moment. Upon hearing this his whole outlook changed. He was all about getting me out the door. After a brief (10min) consult with the chiropractor, the nurse came in with my scripts and lead me out the door. The receptionist had to tell me my treatment plan in full detail! I was to get sedation the next week and have to have someone stay with me for 24 hours afterward. Now, sedation is very problematic for someone with a seizure disorder like me, and I explained this to the receptionist. She called back the nurse who proceeded to give me a (no shit) 15 second rundown of how "it wont matter about the seizures, you'll be fine" First of all, I do not like being lectured by a 19year old twit with bleached blond hair that looks like a backup dancer for Lady Gaga. The doctor should have done this himself, but he was too busy flirting with the chiropractor. My final bill for all of this would end up being over $400 plus scripts. I informed the receptionist I was on a limited income, and that the PA knew this & she could not have cared less. I was hurried out of the office like a homeless man. One of prescriptions he gave me was for Celebrex, which has no generic. That script would have cost me $139, obviously I could not afford that. I called back to see if there was another drug I could take in place of that and was told "If you cant afford it then you'll just have to go without, but it will void your treatment plan & you will have to reschedule for another full consult." To hell with that I'm not giving these morons anymore of my money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AND ALL THEIR OFFICES. I knew I should have checked Yelp before I made my appointment. ***Sorry this is a late update*** To make a long story short after this review and one that I posted on Facebook they immediately sent my wife a letter stating that Dr. Hogan was not going to be her doctor any more. (Immediately as in 48 hours). In his letter he stated that he was "appalled" by what we wrote on Facebook". WOW!! All I did was tell the same story on FB that I wrote on here! What was interesting also was he said he was her doctor....we NEVER saw him face to face once!! Like I had mentioned in my first review we had only dealt with a PA (Shanna). In the letter, it was more or less a 30 day notification informing us that we had to find another specialist. No problem! We had notified TRICARE to it and filed a formal complaint about their practice and billing techniques...anyway. My wife had one final appointment and it was just to get a prescription for her Fibro meds. So we checked in...and waited, and waited, and waited... We checked with the receptionist to see if there was a reason to be waiting for so long (almost 40 minutes) and she couldnt understand it neither. She went into the back to make some inquiries. Finally, another PA came out and handed us the prescriptions without saying a word and walked away! We were like WTF???? In the end she found a really good specialty group that is aggressive in handling her Fibromyalgia and actually listens to her without trying to get her on the heavy narcotics. I went to AZ Pain Specialists for help with my chronic migraines. My first visit was great - I was seen by many different people in the office, all of whom were very kind and helpful and explained the process of figuring out a plan of treatment for me. The next several visits I started to get slightly discouraged. Wait times increased, the general attitude of the staff got less friendly and less helpful, and I often felt like they knew nothing more about what to do for me than I did (my PA actually spent a lot of appointment time searching for answers to my questions on the internet on her cell phone). They recommended chiropractic appointments, so I started returning for those as well - and I started getting even more discouraged. On my third chiropractic visit, the doctor came into the office and couldn't remember why I was there, and hadn't bothered to review my chart before coming into the room. I quickly ceased returning for those. But I maintained my monthly follow up appointments for my medication refills, as is their policy. I had to reschedule this past month due to a conflict, and ended up seeing a different PA than the one I normally have my appointments with. I was actually pleasantly surprised - his attitude was great, he seemed happy to help me even though I wasn't his patient, and was willing to get me a 3 month prescription so I didn't have to come back every month. I thought everything was fine until a few days later when I got a call from my pharmacy saying that they couldn't fill my prescription because there were no refills left so they needed to contact my doctor. I spent several days trying to get in contact with the office, and every time I spoke to someone who was very rude and very unwilling to help me, each time telling me they would contact the pharmacy the next day and that I would just have to wait. Meanwhile, I contact the pharmacy who informed me that my prescription had NEVER BEEN SENT OVER AFTER MY APPOINTMENT and the only reason that they attempted to refill it is because they have a system in place that automatically attempts to refill prescriptions for patients, even when no refills are left. I called back to AZ Pain Specialists to let them know what had happened after hours expecting to leave a message to have it sorted out, and instead reached an answering service with a very rude woman who told me I would just have to call back during business hours because "they just don't do voicemail". It's clear from this experience that the care of their patients isn't their first priority. Especially considering the fact that they are a PAIN MANAGEMENT specialty and most of their patients will be on recurring medications, there is no reason for a prescription to just never be sent; and it's even less excusable for them to refuse to correct the error in a timely fashion and leave their patient several days without their medication. *** Many of these difficulties worsened when my physician transferred to AZ Pain Doctors. read more

I had a spinal cord stimulator placed in my back by Arizona pain specialists. doctor mcjunkin put it in my back, and I thought he did a really good job. then I went to see Dr CARLSON at the Clinic closer to my house. I have never in my 55 years ever told a doctor he was "a bad Doctor". I have always just left the office and never gone back. But the experience that I had with DOCTOR CARLSON, walking into his Clinic with a pain level of 9 and crying in his office because the pain was so intense. Having him treat me like an object instead of having compassion on me as a patient I was ignored. he arrogantly told the medical students with him that the symptoms I was having with a new medication was not possible. I was so upset and in so much pain I couldn't believe he was making me leave the office without any pain relief of any kind. I told his assistant IN TEARS I was going to leave the clinic. when DOCTOR CARLSON heard that I said "he was a bad doctor" he became incensed and said I was maligning his character. He refused to allow me to discharge myself. Instead even though I insisted I was going to leave the clinic myself, his staff told me that I was not allowed to do that. only DOCTOR CARLSON is allowed to discharge a person from the clinic. this way he can write in my record that I was a terrible patient and say whatever he wants to. I had absolutely no input into it at all. now I find out that because he discharged me and wrote things in my record it is causing me to have a black stain on my record as a patient. Now 2 years later my spinal cord stimulator is defective. The wires that are supposed to be encapsulated in my main unit have come open and are zapping the inside my body. I went to the ER at abrazo West hospital and they told me they won't do anything at all for me. my husband went home to our house 45 minutes away while I was in the ER. and when he turned the unit off I immediately felt relief. I was having pain in my chest and severe pain going down the left side of my body. I called NEVRO the people that created the device and they said to call DOCTOR CARLSON office and have them remove it. I called their office and explained the situation and the pain I was having. I said I wanted the stimulator removed from my back as soon as possible because of the wires sticking out under my skin. feeling wires sticking into your back and having them zapping me the way they were is very frightening. I was told by Arizona pain specialists that because I was discharged from their Clinic, they refuse to remove the stimulator from my back even though they put it in to start with. Now I have to come up with the money and find a neurosurgeon that will remove the device from my back because it's in my spine a regular surgeon can't do it. I called a very good Clinic that my friend recommended. I was told by them that they may not accept me as a patient depending on what the discharge information says about me. I now have a Big black mark on my record from DR CARLSON because I had the nerve to tell him he was a bad doctor. He treated me as if I wasn't in the room with his minions hanging on his sleeve. I had a right to state how I felt about him and the treatment I was receiving. Now I am the one that is getting punished for my experience. I told DR CARLSON he was a bad Dr. and because he felt insulted I am now having to pay the price. whatever you DO NOT go to this Clinic. do not see DR CARLSON or any of his other staff. If you do when you discover as I did that DR CARLSON is a very poor physician, you will want to leave the clinic too and they won't let you do it. Instead they will discharge you from their clinic and leave a black mark on your medical record forever. I also would never use the company NEVRO for your spinal cord stimulator. I found out that two years is a very short period of time to have a stimulator malfunction, let alone have wires zapping you in your chest and back. PLEASE don't go through what I did. WOW apparently my previous review was removed. They say the companies can't do anything about our reviews , this seems suspicious to me. read more

So disappointed with this practice. I've had 2 appointments so far (both ran very late from my appointment time - even had to step out after an HOUR in the exam room with no one coming in). Went to an appointment a few years back. I went because I was in so much pain, I almost could not handle it. We sat there for two hours, then the ignorant lady stuck something in my face and snapped a picture w/out even asking me if it was ok. I was crying in pain and I just left. Then I called the number w/out recognizing it was the same office and was told they were refusing to treat me. Big deal.
