Our family day out this past Saturday was a blast! There was something for everyone to do and plenty of food options to try. The admission was only $5 if arrived by 2PM and the ticket booth rep even told me they have unlimited ride wristbands for only $30 on Wednesday's! Honestly the only negative thing about this place is that the caricature artists SUCK and I've only found one good artist but he was tucked away behind the monster truck stadium, so you had to go looking for him. Other than him, the artists here have absolutely no training (I myself, am an artist and more specifically a graphic design artist and specialize in cartoons, so trust me, I know what I'm talking about). I came here and got my portrait done last year and I didn't even pay for it because the guy who did it was so bad at his work. (His station was in the back of the fairgrounds, behind a smaller Ferris wheel) He also was giving away free portraits of random people he did because those customers didn't want them either because they were so bad.(I know caricatures are supposed to look exaggerated and funny, but this guy had obviously no idea what he was doing. It's like they picked a random guy off the street with no artistic background to do these). So that was the only negative review about this place. Everything else is fun, and you'll have a great time at the fair (especially if you go to a different caricature artist, lol). The one I got this year was amazing! We came for the Home show. It was a very big show. I was, afried it was going to be just like the one at University of Phoenix, which I enjoyed going to but wanted to see different companys at this home show. It didn't disappoint we got a home security system for free just monthly charges, we got to set up Pest Control, we got info on doggie doors and out door yard ideas, so over we had a good day and yes we took our dog Carmela in her stroller. Extreme animal cruelty!!! This year, sea lions have been brought into the dwindling fair to amuse humans. They are set on tarps, in very small tanks with small water dishes where they constantly hang their heads trying to drink and get cool. Hot days, no protection from the sun and very warm water. ("Caregivers" for the animals had plenty of shade, space, and a comfortable chairs for the humans) The AZ State Fair has reached a new low. Everything seems to be running on empty and low in volume. Yes, it's shiny. Yes, still packed with fair food and carnies hawking their stuffed animals. This year, the fair is just plain sad and puny. The exhibition hall is emptier than ever. There doesn't seem to be anyone keeping an eye on the animals as the cows can't completely lie down from the ropes that hold their heads up too far. Arizona doesn't seem to be able to learn any lessons about marine life after killing dolphins at a local desert aquarium last year. Now we are bringing in sea lions to exploit in a hot, filthy, failing fair with no drop of water or human decency in sight. Please boycott this behavior by not going to the fair this year. I wish someone told me of this irresponsible and brutal policy before I purchased tickets. read more

Expensive, and always the same old rides and games with slightly different placement. The food is good, but not healthy and over-priced in most areas, and the rides... I spent $100 for 200 tickets, and only got on 3 rides since the tickets needed for each ride range from 10 to 30. Ridiculous. Arizona needs a permanent theme park. Six Flags needs to step up and start building. The fair is a rip-off and not worth all the money. read more

This was my first time at the AZ State Fair and I had a blast! I recommend coming on a Thursday or Sunday (?) cause I believe those are the two days that you can get an unlimited ride wristband for 30 dollars. (Its definitely worth it!) There were a ton of great shows, from the Bird show (I got to hold a parrot!) to the Hypnosis show (my fiance was selected) lol everything was entertaining. There were a TON of food options at typical fair prices 5-15 dollars on average. We tried the deep fried cheeseburger and deep friend mac and cheese (yum!). As for adult beverages there were a lot of options for craft beer, each stand was different which was great. They also offered things like Sangria and Margaritas. I feel like we bounced around the park all day, we even shot some live zombie actors with paintball guns. and saw Sheryl Crow in concert...she was amazing! I took the bus to this location to avoid having to pay for parking so Im not sure how much that cost/inconvenience it was. I will definitely be back next year! read more

The Az State Fair has become a dreadfully overpriced disappointment. The food, which used to be great, has become of poor quality and also horribly overpriced. And now they limit and sell out early the all day wristbands. My advice. Take the family to the movies and a nice dinner and save hundreds! read more

One of the worst state fairs. Ran by RCS (whoever that is). Spent $300 for my family if 5 for admission and all day ride passes. This was supposedly at a discounted rate. Food service is a burn with rude employees to boot. If you have any short kids (under 47"), don't bother with the ride passes because there are only a few rides for them. Serious dissappointment. What else should I expect from a state where everyone just wants to take your money whilst delivering lackluster services. My suggestion: move somewhere happier. read more

Food is so expensive, but the kids are always happy, so I am happy. Love the turkey legs. I also like the read for rides, what a great motivator for the kids. 9 free rides between my 3 kids, pretty nice. I wish there was some in between rides. There are plenty of little kid rides, which is great. And then there are the ride till you puke rides, which is great if you like that kind of thing. This is probably one of the least fun fairs I have been to. Not well put together. Not clean at all, old and worn out. Great place for kids. Expensive for adults. There's more people trying to get you to buy their crap then anything fun. We paid 5 dollars to get into the Dragon's Lair and they should of paid us to go through it. Not put together well at all. No signature foods. Everything to eat and drink is excessively over priced. 15 dollars for two greasy corn dogs. Not going back next year. read more

The Crossroads gun show at the fairgrounds is a great event. Shows are held several times a year and it spans about 5 spaces. Huge selection of guns, accessories and ammo. Parking will cost you about $10 a day and the entry fee is good for the weekend. Car pool with a friend and split the parking. read more

My wife and I went to the fair this past month and it was a lot of fun. We arrived about 30 minutes prior to open and were able to find parking right across the street for $10.00. By the time we arrived at the front gates there was a decent sized crowd of around 20 people with 20 minutes till open. When the gates opened we quickly went to an open counter and exchanged a Fry's receipt voucher for two tickets. Being a Friday we were able to utilize the many $2.00 food deals being promoted. It mostly consisted of light bites but we were pleasantly surprised by some of the portions we recieved. I will note though that some of waits were incredibly long for simple things like French fries. At one point we had to point out at Pigly's that they had completely skipped our order. Some of the items we sampled were bacon wrapped pork belly, a cup of corn, deep fried cheese cake and pumpkin pie, and a few antijitos. Beyond the food, the entertainment was great. Everything from the Native American dancing to the pig races were a ton of fun. We even caught the bull riding, which was extremely exciting to witness. We also made a point to see all the wildlife on display inside the large buildings. That was probably the cutest experience of my life. In total, the fair was just as good as its always been, and with my wife's smart planning it didn't break the bank. I'd definitely suggest setting a day aside and getting their early, as parking prices double after 5pm and the place gets crazy crowded around then. read more

Always have such a great time at the Arizona State fair! There are plenty of new things to see each year! The live entertainment, the upcoming future stars that perform on the stages are awesome to see while eating some yummy state fair food! This year, my daughter had a fried snickers and believe it or not, it was delish! We love walking around and seeing all the talented art work displayed- this year we were escorted out by staff because it was closing time! You can literally just get so distracted and forget about the time when you are looking at the various art pieces. We also enjoy seeing the people who sell things that only sell items at shows - you know the people when you ask for a business card and they respond by saying something like, we only do shows, sorry we are sold out of the size small. Yes, that happened tonight, so my daughter didn't get that shirt-quite unique. We had fun on those crazy rides! I also appreciate that the security keeps people safe at the fair. I honestly don't remember how many police officers and sheriff department that we spoke to throughout the evening, they serve and protect, as families enjoy their experience at the fair. read more

Everything was good up to the point where we decided to pay for the fast pass , honestly it's not worth buying one, the people in regular lines go faster then fast pass because they only let a certain amount of fast passes and take more regular people in a 12 seated ride they will only take 4 people from fast pass we waiting more with the fast pass.. save your money for food ! read more

Wow, I have to say I'm a bit surprised that this scam of a place has a 3.5 star rating. It deserves negative stars. Let's see, how do I begin to describe what a costly waste of time & money this crap hole excuse of a fair is? Yikes. We went on a Thursday evening. Guess that was mistake #1 since apparently Thursdays is one of only two days/week they offer ride wristbands. It was stupid crowded. There is nowhere near enough parking offered at the "$10" fairground lot. We had to park in some sketchy lot near a dilapidated building labeled "Fiesta Latina" across the railroad tracks that cost us $20. Let me tell you, Fiesta Latina is anything but a party. The building looks like it went through some World War 3 zombie apocalypse. One wonders whether their car will still have wheels when they return. Anyway, I digress. After that initial fun, we got to wait in a horrifically long line (pretty sure these fair employees were trained by DMV) just to purchase tickets. Oh, and the tickets were $12 - not the $10 advertised online. And the awesome all-you-can-ride wristband? $35 - not the $30 advertised online. Bait-and-switch big time. At this point, we've already spent $10 more for parking, and $17 more each than anticipated for admission tickets/wristbands - just to get in. We head to the first ride and wait 40 minutes to get on. Okay, not exactly worth it, but hey...at least we rode one! Headed to the second ride and waited 30 minutes....during which time the line NEVER moved. "Line." That's a joke in itself. They have about 20 feet of rope delineating the "line" for the ride. At the end of that, the "line" becomes a mosh pit. The people who push and shove the hardest, get on the ride. If you're polite and believe in civility, you don't stand a chance. Anyway, after 30 minutes of being jostled in the mosh pit, we decide to just get a bite to eat and get the hell out of there. Cut our losses. Let's at least enjoy some fair food, right?! Yah, right. After a $6 watered down lemondade and an $11 corn dog (nope, that's not a typo - $11 for a CORNDOG), we could no longer stand the prices, the inept fair workers, and the shoulder-to-shoulder general clientele of this place. If hanging out with gang bangers and disrespectful teens is your thing - you've come to the right place! Enjoy secondhand cigarette smoke? You're in luck! Every other person you walk by will oblige you by blowing their noxious by-products right in your face. Yay! Dirty, grimy, disgusting, scam, bowels-of-society....these are all things that come to my mind to describe this wasteland of a "fair." I spent $84 to park my car, ride one carnival ride, and eat a dried out corndog. Yay me. Fool me once, shame on you Arizona State Fair. Fool me twice? NEVER, EVER! read more

We liked the Chinese Acrobat show, the Native Spirit dance show and the Fyre guy show. I think my companions enjoyed the KISS cover band. There were many rides, to the delight of the toddler in our group. He was thrilled and amazed and had a walloping good time. The food prices were so high, I couldn't bring myself to buy anything to eat. Even though we got there at noon for free admission (not everyday; see website for deals) and stayed till 10:30 (closing). We waited and ate after we left. $5 for a generic ice cream cone? $30 for a turkey leg? $3 for an ordinary bottle of water? Nope. There were people selling bottled water outside the fair. If you run out of unopened bottles of water (the only thing allowed inside), get yourself stamped for free re-entry and buy water outside. Also, the $5 parking is good. There were police directing traffic so we had no problems getting inside safely. Freebie note: in one of the kiddie zones there's a free sunscreen dispenser from the Melanoma Society. I didn't see it till after dark, but now you know. It's bright yellow. Also expect lots of free hand washing stations. There's a variety of merchandise and experiences. Hats, handbags, toys, clothing, shoes, cosmetics, home goods, etc. Lots of exhibits of art, livestock and livestock judging, handcrafts (some for sale), a cooking show, wooden decorative items made to order while you watch. Bungee jumping? $40. Sitting in a machine-operated foot massage chair? 25 cents. Best value? The free dinosaur exhibit. They roar and move. Perfect for selfies! read more

I love the fair. The vibe, the food, the smells and the rides. They just made it too overpriced. It's supposed to be for families and it's just too much money. The food was bomb but everything is like 10 bucks and up. Parking is 10, admission 10, a small beer, 10. The rides are all like 10 tickets or above, or buy a all day bracelet for 50. It's the state fair, every year. It's what I would consider a little better than the Grand Canyon. You can only look at a hole in the ground for so long. Once you been to the state fair you can probably opt out on the annual visit and not miss much. The only reason we truly go as for the typical fair food that we don't get on a normal basis. You can't pass up fat, crazy deliciousness. If you are coming for the food though make sure you get a loan with a very low interest-rate so you don't feel the heartburn of an empty wallet next day. If you're in it for the rides you might want to try and come on wristband day. And guess what, they are now set up like all the big conglomerates. If you pay more money to get a fast pass you're a VIP. They find any way they can to squeeze an extra dollar out of ya. One thing I noticed this year is there was a lot less in the form of exhibits with booth sales. I used to look forward to going and seeing all the new trinkets and this year was a let down. You gotta do it once but make sure you go when the fair is reduced and you can get a wristband for the rides. I've got no love advice on saving chedda on food unfortunately so if you find a secret please pass it on. read more

My wife and I were visiting our son and he told us we had to experience the Arizona State Fair...and on this day during the long Columbus holiday weekend, we went to the fair and watched the Flaming Lips concert. This is not my music...but my son was pretty excited over the prospect of this concert...and so we found good seats and listened for about a half hour. Somehow during the concert, my son's wallet fell out of his pocket as he removed his cell phone. He didn't realize his cell fell to the ground....not until we were out of the concert. By the time we walked back to the building, the doors were locked and the concert was over. We went over to the Lost and Found and State Police took our name and told us the concert hall would be cleaned soon...but no one had yet come forward to return the wallet. We were pretty upset, thinking he wouldn't get his wallet back. But the next day, my son got a phone call from someone working in the concert hall that had cleaned the facility and found his wallet. We returned to the Arizona State Fair and after about a half hour, his wallet was retrieved. We want to thank the person working in the concert hall for making sure to hold onto the wallet before giving it to the proper authorities. We also want to give a big thanks to Byron Ewing of Guest Services for his real concern over the lost wallet. He spent time tracking down the cleaning staff and making sure we got the wallet back. Also want to thank State Police for staffing the Lost and Found...and talking to us about getting the wallet back. All in all, dedicated staff brought the wallet back to its owner...and helped us avoid having to get all new credit cards and a new driver's license....and renewed my faith that there are people that are honest. read more

Arizona State Fair? More like Phoenix Carnival. It`s a joke. We go every year just to get food and hopefully stumble across a decent exhibit. Not this year. The exhibits are fewer than usual with a lot of regular things missing. The food prices have gotten out of control. The vendors are selling garbage and some of the shirts are offensive to me if I had any young kids and I`m a retired sailor that still cusses daily. I feel bad for the kids that have livestock and almost anybody else that enters their wares in the competitions as the buildings they have to set up in are run down ghetto class structures. Is this really the best this state can do for a "fair". On the plus side, $2 admission is nice after getting reamed for $10 onsite parking. This a money machine, not a state fair. The people that represent our state and let this happen should be ashamed to be associated with it. Do yourself a favor and head to San Diego to the Del Mar/San Diego County fair. Still a money pit but 300% better. read more
