You can buy alfalfa pellets in Joy mini cones for $5 each or two for $8. The llama, baby kangaroos, and sheep are soft. The goat, donkeys, and cow are smooth. There are stacks of hay you can feed them! There are three pens. One has one baby kangaroo and five baby goats. The second pen has one baby kangaroo and a donkey. The third pen has six adult goats!. The whole place was run by teens with management no where in site. $63 for two burgers, fries and a Turkey leg. $7 for a ice cone which had no sweetness, all ice. Personally, I felt that this was 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 since Yelp doesn't do half star ratings. Coming back after several years brought back childhood memories and nostalgia. I wanted to rate it higher but I can't because the traffic I had to endure was awful and some of the vendor staff were unpleasant to say the least. This visit included myself, hubby, our kids, and my in-laws. We decided to do a Friday afternoon visit and I realize that it's the reason I had to endure the awful traffic. The experience at the fair made up for it. The in-laws seemed to have had a good time and I know my kids had a great experience. I do agree that the fair can be an expensive outing but there are ways to cut down the costs. My hubby and I paid for the group's tickets, parking, and food so that was a nice little dent in our wallets but we wanted to so my in-laws, his parents, can have a good time. This year there was a Fry's promo of spending at minimum $50 at their stores and you'll get 2 free adult admission to the fair printed on the receipt. Well, Fry's is where we exclusively do all of our grocery shopping so that was a no-brainer for us to do. You will need to keep the whole receipt to turn in at the admission gate. We had receipts for hubby and I and the in-laws to use so that helped a lot. I just had to buy a child's ticket for my oldest child and my youngest was able to get in free. Discounts and promos change every year so check out the state fair website for the most current details. In the years past, there were free shuttles that ran from a few different off-site parking lots to the fairgrounds but I didn't find any info about it for this year. Definitely look into this to help cut down costs. If you're going with a group, consider splitting the costs for different stuff. When my hubby and I went as a couple before our kids were even thought of, we went with a group of friends and this helped a lot when it came to saving money. I can't stress enough to plan, plan, plan! Go the the state fair website! It will make visiting a heck of a lot easier and reduce unnecessary spending. I would love to come back in the future years with my kids to give them the same fun memories that I had as a kid. read more

I look forward to coming to the AZ State Fair every year. I just can't get enough of the crowded midways, the livestock and exhibit halls, and all the deep fried whatever they can think of. Sure it's the same old same old every year, but it's like going to the family reunion it is only once a year. I was surprised to see, or should I say, not see any fried bugs this year. The deep fried bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers are my favorite. The roasted sweet corn is always something I look forward to. The biggest regret was not trying the deep fried pecan pie. Maybe next year. I'm sure all the rides are fun, but I get motion sick, so I didn't go on any. When you drop a bundle on fair food you kind of like to keep it for a while and not share it with bystanders. I didn't stay for the evening entertainment. They have some pretty good shows. I got there early in the day so I could take advantage of the $2.00 admission before 2pm. Getting there is easy. I ride the light rail to the McDowell and Central stop. It's only a short walk or a couple stops away if you transfer to the city bus. read more

I like to go to the county and state fairs in order to get back in touch with my food sources. By that I mean the livestock and agricultural products that Farmers and Ranchers produce. I also enjoy seeing the arts, crafts, cooking, baking and preserving that people still do in this modern world. You won't find much of this at the Arizona State Fair, but it is still a very good time. They have lots of "twirl and hurl" or "spin and barf" type of rides. Not interested. I am a roller coaster freak. But I do enjoy looking at the rides at night when they are all lit up like Christmas. They do have tons of "Carny Grub" though at STOOOPID expensive prices. $14 for a roasted Turkey leg! For $24 they will wrap that Turkey Leg in 1 pound of Bacon! I knew this ahead of time so I ate a good lunch before I arrived. For a late afternoon snack, I chose San Francisco Chocolate Factory Chocolate Toffee Apple on a stick ($6). It was a HUGE, juicy green apple dipped in chocolate and rolled in Toffee chips. YOWZA! It was a delight to enjoy. Later, for a pre-dinner appetizer I chose Carne Cafe Taco Stand. They had 3 Carne Asada Tacos for $8. Small, tiny, 1/4" cubes of steak, disappointing in both taste and quality. Just something to fill the void. For dinner, I chose Piggly BBQ, because the smell from the fire roasting pig on a rotisserie grill was very intoxicating. I asked how many bones in a 1/2 rack of Pork Ribs and they said 6 for $18. Not too bad pricing compared to a restaurant. Problem was, when I opened the foil the Ribs were slathered in grocery store BBQ sauce. I could not even taste the meat or smoke. They also gave me niggardly pinches of Cole Slaw and grilled onions. Why even bother? So, other than the Apple, my carny grub experience was sub-par. At night they had a QUEEN cover band from L.A. called "Queen Nation" playing 2 sets for free. They actually sounded like QUEEN and they totally rocked. I also enjoyed watching the people very much. Just came for fair food, and it was mediocre at best and waaaaay over priced. For me and my husband to eat 2 beef dogs, fries and 2 sodas was $32. Make sure you eat before coming here. The earlier the better but beware the rays of the sun. Parking is cheaper when you come earlier as well. The inside flea market area was pretty cool they had good cinnamon rolls. If you come, do it on the weekends before 2 so all you pay is $2 to get in and check it out. read more

I look forward to the fair every year, and this year did not disappoint me. We went on a bracelet day- $50 for unlimited rides, definitely worth the value. We also got in before 2 pm on a Sunday for half price admission. The fair is always expensive but if you watch for the discounts you can make it affordable. Rides were great and lines weren't too long until night time. Definitely come early to make the most out of your bracelet. Fair food is always a must! I had a hot cheeto Mac n' cheeseburger, and deep fried pumpkin pie. My boyfriend had a deep fried bacon wrapped monster dog, it was all so amazingly sinful! The only bummer was seeing the giant gator. I should have known better and not even paid the dollar to go in, but it was so sad to see that alligator in such a tiny trailer. I really wish the fair would stop doing animal attractions like this. I definitely will never go back into there. P.S. we ubered there and back. We live in central phoenix and total cost was under $12- definitely better than driving and paying $15+ for parking! read more

WARNING - DO NOT GO TO THIS FAIR. If I could give 0 stars I would. It was $80 for a grand total of being allowed to park, walk in, and ride 1 ride with my boyfriend. I don't know or care how Covid effected this business, but you have to spend over $200 to fill up a half hour with just one other person. Beyond that, they are no longer offering unlimited passes, and their ride times were cut down to a third of what they used to be. Ticket prices were 50 cents, but it cost 30 tickets for 1 ride. The lowest ticket amount i saw that wasn't meant for children was 7 tickets. Do not bring your family, and definitely do not bring children unless you want a strangled wallet and crying the whole ride home. I recommend Castles and Coasters a $35 unlimited all day pass, or save money by driving to California for Six Flags or Disney. SAVE YOURSELVES AND YOUR WALLET read more

Yesterday (Oct. 30, 2016), having never been to a state fare, I went to the Arizona State Fair with my girlfriend! Foremost, this place was huge. It most have been nearly one square mile large. Also, the admission price was not all that much at just $10, and the tickets for the rides were also not terribly expensive. One of my larger critiques of the Fair was that it had about 20 different amenities that were all the same. It seemed like every corner was bound to have a barbecue with turkey legs, a shop that sold cotton candy and popcorn and a squirt-gun range. While the food wasn't too expensive, it was neither very diverse in its demographics. From bungee jumping to ferris wheels, there were quite a few rides. There was an especially unique and exciting ride that threw you high in the sky in circular motion and then flew you back at the ground! My favorite aspect of the Fair was the large model train near the entrance. I stopped and looked at the train for quite sometime while being entertained by its detail. Having never been to a State Fair, this review could be more subjective than it ought to be. Nonetheless, the Fair made for a great day out with my girlfriend! read more

Maybe I'm just getting old and crusty, but it really does feel like the fair has gone steadily down hill the last few years. They really need to dump these RCG a-holes that run the rides and midway. Just awful. The prices keep climbing (like $10/person for the big Ferris wheel - 20 tickets with tickets selling 100 for $50). If the experience was getting better that'd be one thing, but it's definitely going downhill. The primordial soup they find to run the games all look like they're dogs that have been kicked too much or something. I'm happy to pay the scam prices to "win" the melamine-laden plush toys from China IF it's a fun experience for the kids. On the other hand, if most games & rides are staffed with bitter, semi-literate zombies who just exude "please shoot me because I hate my life", well it's just kind of downer for the kiddos. Maybe it's a product of the good economy... or more likely just greed... it's much cheaper and easier this way than finding good kids and going through all the screening/training ahead of time. Outside of the RCG-run stuff, the fair was generally still a lot of fun. All the fabulously fried food was awesome, of course. Loved the Ag building and activities. Loved the culinary stage and art displays under the coliseum... definitely should play that up when it's hot like it was this week. read more

The state fair entrance fee seemed to come down to $10 from what I remembering being $12 previous times I've attended and while this was nice, once inside the gate I realized why. For an additional cost there is atleast one more attraction you can enter. It's a small building that has something to do with dinosaurs. I didn't pay to enter so I'm not sure how it's set up, but again it was a small building. As for the main part of the fair, overall it seemed like less stands, vendors, games and rides were set up this year. Games: Games especially seemed over priced even for the $2 Friday special between noon-7pm. All games now require ticket purchasing (except the $.25 throw a quarter on the rainbow) as they no longer handle cash and they tell you 4 tickets equal $2 (which if you buy 40 tickets it costs $20). What they don't tell you is for a lot of games to attempt to get a big prize is that even if your perfect at some of those games it would still cost $30 to get it and that's on the $2 Friday special meaning after 7pm on Fridays or any other day of the week it would cost nearly $60. Rides: Now rides on that Friday special are a good deal as most rides would normally be at least 8 tickets, but if planning on a lot of rides, save for the unlimited ride wristband days ($25 on Thursdays and $45 on Sundays). The one thing to remember with rides is this year they seemed fewer, so unless planning on re-riding the same rides, I wouldn't buy the $45 wrsitband. Food: As for food, there were still several food stalls with many types of food including alcohol. Just expect to pay a hefty cost for most food items (near double to triple the cost outside of the fair). For the drinkers, the cheapest beer I found was $8 for a small glass. The large was $12 If I remember correctly. I think wine was $9. Concerts: For me I believe the fair is still a cheap way to enjoy a concert as the $10 admission still gets you in and there are some small stages with other performers (cover bands/amateur acts). Even with the $10 parking on the fair grounds it's still only $20 to see a major entertainer, just remember there is no opening or second act with them. So if there is a concert you would like to see, it won't be cheaper elsewhere. Concerts are generally about an hour and 30 minutes (Was this way in the past and was with opening night act Gary Allan this year). Vendors: In the past I use to go through the commerce buildings to find unique items you may not find elsewhere. While there is still some stalls set up, the quality of those stalls has dropped far from what they use to be. I also noticed that the buildings seemed far more "open" than they use to be. Open as in less stuff and less people going through them. People generally know when quality declines to not waste their time. In all I arrived around 3pm figuring I could easily kill 3 hours playing some games and getting food to eat before being able to go into the concert. I think honestly I walked 5 miles through the many trips around the fairgrounds, played maybe 20 minutes of games (bought a 40 ticket pack and then spent $2.50 on quarter game), and sat down at the outdoor north stage to hear the cover band of Kenny Chesney while eating a $2 Indian fry bread ($2 Friday special before 7pm) to kill the 3hrs. Going to any fair requires some common sense. Get here early, and research pricing beforehand. Google map your directions because there aren't many signs directing people where to go to find the parking lot. If you get here within the first hour of opening on Saturday, there is parking and entry is only $5. The security checkpoint upon entry is a little ridiculous. It's like going through TSA at the airport without having to remove your shoes. Someone will search your bag and make you open every little pocket in your purse. Makes you wonder what problems have occurred here. I saw some people who had water and were told that they could not take water into the fair. Once inside there are people trying to take your picture and they were very pushy, one even whistling at us. We were not given a map upon entry and were totally confused trying to find what we were looking for. Finally found an information stand where we got a map. Opened up the map only to find that it did not work at all! The animals and various exhibits were fun to look at. The food was pricey, but as expected for fair food. You only get it at the fair, so we expected the prices to be on the higher side. This fair was considerably small when compared to the LA or OC fairs. Overall, we are glad that we went, now we know what the AZ fair is like. read more

Fun way to spend a night in October. Rides, model trains, fair food... Plus, the grandstand is great! The $10 entrance fee more than covers the fun you'll have at the fair. Tonight was a figure 8 race at the grandstand. Stock cars zooming, crashing, racing for the finish line. Pair that with a pupusa and you're golden. The AZ state fair had its ups and downs. Admission is normally $12, but if you go on a weekend day before 2pm then it's only $5 which was nice to get the discounted ticket. That is going to be about the only think that is cheap though. All of the games, rides, and food and drink is super pricey. I know that fairs typically are on the pricey side, but when you pay 20 bucks just to be able to play 3-4 games, it's kind of a bummer. Food is obviously expensive too. However, the turkey legs for me is always a must at the fair. We also tried the fried cookie dough, pumpkin cheesecake, and Reese's peanut butter cup. The fried items were tasty, I liked the pumpkin cheesecake the best. Parking on the back entrance around 11:30am was $15 bucks but when we left around 4:30pm, that same parking lot was $40 so if you park in the back it's all based off of supply and demand it seems like, however you are right next to the entrance which is nice. It's a fun time, but just overall I always feel like I'm paying way too much money for it. read more

Considering everything, we were really excited to patronize the vendors for the fair. Unfortunately the idea was not well thought out. There were no bathrooms. Once stuck in the snake-like winding three hours lines, there were no ways for drivers to leave. Cant image what would happen if anyone had an a medical crisis while in line...much less a simple child request for restrooms. Folk's cars were overheating. Kids were hanging out the window and crying. Absolutely no idea why they didn't have two areas w the same (or differing) vendors. Honestly not sure how something vm like this could ha be passed inspection. Albeit limited Covid-related car line events. Felt bad leaving. Really wanted to help the vendors. We always have the best time at the state fair! It's a fun family day to play games and eat fair food We make the effort to go every year! Usually we buy our tickets discounted on Groupon, but this year we got free tickets through the "Frys free fair Fridays" which gives you free adult admission from open until 6pm. Since it's during the day time you don't get to see all the lights- but with little ones that doesn't matter all that much. We got to spend the money we saved on extra games and food! read more

This place is nothing like it once was.. the prices are outrageous. $50 for 100 tickets.. sounds like a lot of tickets, but every ride is 10 tickets PER PERSON PER RIDE.. they wouldn't let my oldest who is 8 ride with my 3 year old by themselves.. even though they are completely capable. So every ride is a minimum of 30 tickets for all of us and that's just for the simple rides.. the cooler rides are upwards of 18-20 tickets. There is no "unlimited rides" option. No more wristbands. All I got was a glass of iced water (legally they are obligated to give them for free) but was charged $4.. to top it all off, the day after going to the fair I had 6 fraudulent charges on my account by food vendors that I did not purchase from, totaling $68. This is not a secure place to use a card and the prices are ridiculous and the ticket system and age restrictions are just a way to scam people out of spending way more money. I will not be returning here ever again. I thought this would be a great place to make the memories with my kids that I had when I was a kid. I was wrong. I'd rather make a trip to a California theme park than ever come here again. read more

A Phoenix police office said there was no parking available except handicap. He said the rodeo trailers were taking up the available parking spaces. Will never go back to this venue. It's always fun and if you do your research you can attend some great concerts. Tonight we watched DNCE perform and it was AMAZING, love their sound!!!! The Indian fried bread is always a delight and the amount of edible fried foods is always comical. Went to international light festival on Christmas Eve. Hardly anyone there. Price was very steep at $18 per adult and $10 parking. To much of an Chinese flair to it. Would not recommend this particular event but reality is the fair board wold approved this event. I was not a fan of this place. It was put on by the Chinese. They have all the world capitals (Kremlin was stunning)which was great. The US display was just a fence(wall?) way in the corner and all they had was basketball players and football players from what looks like the 1960s. That goes to show you what the world's view of the US is. They think we are just basketball and football junkies and We do not know much about world culture. As over priced at $58 usd. Just don't go! The hours suck. They close at 9! We got there at 6:30 thinking we could ride a few rides and maybe get some food but wow, no. I stood in line for an hour just for one small ride and admissions to get into the park took about 30 minutes and that took up most of the time before the park closed. The parking was a mess. Only open during certain days out of the week which makes things hard. They stop selling fast passes really early so you don't have any option but to stand in a massive line for every single ride. The lines are ridiculously long. They're SOOO expensive. It's not worth it!! After hearing a lot of bad things about it, I still wanted to give it a fair shot but geez, this place really sucks lol. read more

The Arizona State Fair Grounds has no visual or atmosphere appeal and is isolated from the downtown urban corridor in a dense run down industrial area. Grassy/shaded areas are few and poorly maintained, with no landscape design concept. The buildings/structures are randomly placed with no apparent site-planning or conceptual design. Building styles are random, dated poorly maintained and non-appealing inside. The portable restroom facilities are more appealing, better smelling and in better condition than the permanent structures. Offsite parking is on private property/vacant lots with no pedestrian exclusive access to keep from crossing 6 lane roadways. Onsite parking facility is severely worn and in disrepair. The State of Arizona should be embarrassed to showcase or promote this facility to its citizens or tourist industry. The managing officials should give serious consideration to demolishing and redeveloping the existing site; as well as relocating/constructing a new facility with a deliberately planned and appealing site plan for year round usage/entertainment incorporated into the urban community/retail vendors and mass transit access. read more

Such a fun time! Went with a group of friends to see the Billy Currington concert and it could not have been a better bang for my buck! The amount of activities were endless, and we kept running into more people that we knew! This is a very underrated part of Arizona that I would recommend everyone to go check out at least once. read more

Arizona State Fair traffic wasn't that bad. I went at around 7:00PM with my friends and were able to find parking at the actual fair. Parking at the fair is $10. General admission tickets are usually $10, but we got in for free. There was a tent outside of the fair that asked us to help by signing a UNITY pledge and as a result, we also received free tickets. (Their tent sign was called One Community) I didn't spend as much money as I thought I would, but the price of everything (food, rides, games) was expected. We bought lemonade ($6), turkey leg ($13), Indian fry bread (with powdered sugar, honey, and strawberry syrup/jelly), a burger ($8), garlic fries, and corn in a cup ($5). The food, overall, was satisfying! Lemonade- Bought it from Janine's Fresh Squeezed lemonade stand and it tasted like water and sugar. I asked the girl who made my drink to add more lemon and it was a little better, but I don't think it was mixed well; maybe try getting it at a different lemon stand. Turkey leg- The turkey leg wasn't dry at all. It was the last couple of years, but this year, it was juicy and moist; recommend! Indian fry bread- Extra crispy and the strawberry syrup/jelly made it so good; recommend! Burger- A little dry, not that special; don't get it! Garlic fries- Not too much garlic, very crispy, and a lot of flavor; recommend! Corn in a cup- Very good; corn stayed hot. I added mayo, lemon juice, hot sauce, chili pepper, and grated cheese; recommend! **Corn tip: pour out the excess water before adding your ingredients, so it doesn't get all watery. The ingredients also mix/taste better without the extra water, but be careful when pouring it out. I spilled the excess water onto my hands, and it was very hot. The games and rides were fun. I went yesterday (10/27/16) and on Wednesdays, rides and games were $2 each. They have cute Minecraft creature prizes this year (not sure if they had it previous years). We won a pig one, but it was dirty. The people who worked there were so nice to let us trade for a cleaner one. read more

I am reviewing the Crazy Times Carnival on here since I cant find a main page for it specifically. It is like a smaller version of the Arizona State Fair except not as fun. It is smaller since it is a carnival, except everything is so squished together and the lines are very long. That does not take away from the integrity of the place, this is more informational! It is sort of expensive, long lines, and a LOT of people. Image the amount of people at the Arizona State Fair except in a much smaller area. Parking was good, so was food, fun rides and fun games! In case it is important to you, they do not take any covid precautions- no social distancing, no mask mandate, a again, a lot of people and very long lines! The carnival is not bad!
