They are looking right at you u when you u are asking for help and they just ignore you. there's a young girl there Ashlee very helpful. Very sweet came in and when she did my blood pressure, she turned my light on for me and did a few things help me with my tea. Very nice girl. The regular team throughout the holidays, Rosalinda amazing she's awesome very helpful. As far as nurses we got Gia very sweet Jovy another very helpful nurse The doctors come from all other locations Kaiser Corona Hospital so on and so forth so that's the same no matter where you're at. Getting them to respond to your call it takes about a half an hour. Some are really sweet and they'll have a conversation with you Someone will just come and tell you yes yes I'll get your nurse and then you never see from them again overall I do not recommend this place overall it is awful. It smells bad. It's just horrible. Si is the overnight nurse that helped me eventually, she dedicated her time to me and did everything I needed done.

Can I say one thing? I'm not sure why this hospital has such low reviews. I know they take on…read morereally sick patients and sometimes this can go sideways but I have personally experienced acute care from this hospital. My dad is recovering from Sepsis here. He's been at the hospital (not just this one) but about 2 months almost. At kindred like 3 weeks and currently he's in the ICu due to complications due to how fragile he is atm. But there's is a NIC here in the AM, SHERRY. Before I got to talking to her I see how she micro manages her nurses and can I say I am amazed on the care she gives to the patients in this wing. I know my dad is okay ESPECIALLY the 5 days she is in charge. I had a little scare a couple days ago and the way this team reacted to the alarm, I am just so thankful. I am at peace knowing my dad is being watched here. And I know it always come down on how a team is led and I can honestly say , I LOVE SHERRY AND TRULY THANKFUL FOR THIS TEAM!!!!!! In the other hospitals my dad has been in becasue of his critical condition, this place has given him many good days and infection clearing up and being visible than any other hospital he has been in and he's been to 3 before this. Thank you Kindred and thank you Sherry! Very thankful for you

I've waited a while to write this review to make sure my head is clearer for an accurate review -…read moreMy family relied heavily on true reviews of the Kindreds when transferring my father to one, so I'd like to provide information to other families who may benefit.  TL;DR: Kindred is bad, outdated, doesn't share information, has no online portal or easy way to get medical information, hard, if not impossible, to talk to doctors, and is the only option for LTACHs in OC. Of the Kindreds in OC, this one is still the "best." There are a few decent people (palliative care team, patient advocate, and the ICU), but they're limited by the system and other issues, and you still have to be present almost at all hours to make sure your loved one is taken care of. An LTACH is a step down from the hospital in terms of care, so you need to step-up to be an advocate.  Long: The building and systems are old. You can't get medical records/test results/doctor notes/chart updates unless you go to the medical records office, fill out a form, and go in and ask for paper copies daily (which we did). The doctors are not available, the nurses don't share anything ("the doctor will tell you that"), and admin can only do so much. Maybe you'll have a case worker that actually does something or talks to you, but the patient advocate was helpful at least and always made time. As far as care goes - the ICU area had better nurse to patient ratios and was really quite good. Outside of the ICU, it was more dismal. The nurses don't really care - most are just doing the bare minimum. There are a few good ones in there - you can request them if you want (do that). It takes ages to get a response after hitting the call button. My dad wasn't repositioned often unless he needed new dressings or linens. PT/OT only worked with him when we were there, otherwise they'd claim he was asleep or not receptive to working. Speech therapy came some but it wasn't until one fantastic lady came and really helped clear out my dad's mouth. You need to be there all the time to hold them accountable and make sure things are done. You can get extended hours approved too, which is worthwhile. Kindred works their employees hard, but the staff still need to understand that their patients are in critical condition, in long-term care, need compassion and good care, and are needing to recover.  The doctors are all listed on the patient whiteboards, but they're never there during visiting hours (it sure felt like this was done on purpose to avoid interaction with family members. We asked many, many times to talk to doctors. If you are the squeaky wheel, though, you may get lucky - pester and then pester more. That's the only way we were able to talk to doctors. Though some of their bedside manners could be better. Make sure to ask who the doctors/nurses/therapists are when they come in as they don't often do introductions. The palliative care team was really quite good - respectful, listened, and compassionate. They really helped us understand what was going on and helped us get the information we wanted and needed. When we were there, Kindred had just started a new hospice contract with Compassionate Health Hospice. It was horrible. They messed up everything they could from showing up 90min after their set time to messing up the medication order. And not even apologizing or being respectful.

I am happy to see the cleanliness of this place. While walking in the lobby, you'll encounter a front desk reception area where you sign in. The receptionist and the security in the evening were both very nice when greeting you. You'll sign in their log in clip board, and then you'll get a visitor's stickers before going inside. The hallways are bright and we'll lit. Lots of nursing staff members working. And everything seems orderly. I'm not sure about the doctors working, I didn't see any around, nor did I had a chance to meet any docs, but I assume they come around during the day. Regardless of the lower ratings here, I'm not sure why, but everyone seemed professional and we're doing what they needed to do... cater to the patients. Unfortunately, my experience here was short lived as a visitor. My aunt passed away a couple of weeks after getting admitted here. I honestly hope it's not true from the other people's reviews here, about their loved ones leaving this world after getting admitted to this facility. Is the cleanliness and the nice staff members at the facility a big facade? I hope not. But a nurse did mention to me about my aunt being in that condition and is suffering... blah blah... that she's better leaving the world so she won't be suffering anymore. I partly agree, but it's all about God's timing. She shouldn't be saying that in the first place to anybody, especially family. It's too uncomfortable for some people to hear even though the facts are there. Anyhow, back to the facility. The parking situation is horrible. You will have to park all the way in the back parking lot. The parking spots right behind the building is for the handicap, and part of that lot is also used for storing old beds. On the other hand, the front parking lot at the entrance is for doctors only and the handicap. They should just use the rear of the building as their main entrance instead of making visitors walk all the way to the front. I'm not sure I know how to rate this place. Cleanliness is four stars, staff is four stars, but the comments made by a nurse is unacceptable, so three stars, and the parking situation is a definite one star. So overall experience and still being nice, I'll give them a weak 3.1 stars. Imo, please do your research for any of these nursing hospitals before admitting a loved one.

I highly recommend Kindred- Santa Ana to anyone that is looking for acute care for themselves or…read moretheir loved ones. My wife left UCI Orange hospital in April 2026 in need of extensive care. She had a tracheostomy and a feeding tube that needed more medical attention. She was admitted to Kindred SA with open arms. From the moment she got there, she was put in ICU where she was seen by every department of the medical staff. From the doctors and nurses to the therapists and dietitian. Next day she was moved to a room where the Case Manager addressed all of her needs and concerns. The whole Kindred staff was just very professional and genuinely concerned about the rehabbing of my wife. When she first got there she was barely able to walk. She needed the assistance of a walker. Within a month of doing physical therapy she was walking with a cane and then with nothing. The Physical Therapists also worked with her to climb stairs, as we live on the 3rd floor of an apartment with no elevator. When we got home my wife had no problem climbing three flights of stairs to get to our place. That would have been impossible two months ago. What really sold me on Kindred was how much my wife would constantly tell me how nice everyone was and how they were taking good care of her. She was seen by doctors, nurses, nurses in-training ,physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, a dietician, a wound care team and case managers. She even talked about how nice the people that cleaned the rooms were. Basically knowing that she was being well taken care of helped ease my concerns for her. The only negative I would say about Kindred in Santa Ana is that the building is old, but the people who work there more than make up for it with their professionalism and compassion for their patients. My wife and I took a picture with the night staff before we left. Thank you Kindred for taking great care of my wife and helping her to transition to come back home. Words cannot express my extreme gratitude. You are all awesome and thank you so much!

The rooms are small and cramped - if the two patients reached out they could hold hands. He contracted Covid there, which sent his lung plummeting. The visitors seating was a folding metal chair. My husband died, but not before I took him out of there and into a hospice to die peacefully. The doctors were never totally upfront with me that he was dying - had I known I would have removed him from that place weeks before I did.
