I wasn't going to originally post a review until I got sick at 3am the night after eating here. This was our first time and we started off with what I can assume is not fresh calamari as it was cold and bland. I noticed other tables got bread but we didn't so I asked our server for some but it also came cold and didn't taste fresh. Our entrees were really terrible, I'm fairly sure my chicken was raw so I spit it out and left it, only eating the bland pasta. It looked like the chicken was all boiled and served over very al dente pasta and some watery sauce since both plates has bland chicken. We were tired and starving so we just ate and left but wow, extremely disappointed in our experience. Sorry to say all the food was bad since I had high hopes based on other reviews. We had a private retirement party on the porch. The staff was fantastic. The food was great, from the pizza, salads, fish and everything else served. We were a big party and they had some issues getting all the food out at one time, but these days we all must be patient. We fell short on our garantee and wound up with a case of wine. I truly enjoy this little corner of the world. I especially love its namesake pizza, the Armando, which is pictured. Everything about this pizza is perfection. The ricotta is wonderfully matched with the slightly spicy Neapolitan salami and the fresh mozzarella and light tomato sauce are wedded with the artichoke. If I could only order one pizza for the rest of my life it would be this one! I've enjoyed many of the other entrees, appetizers and desserts with family and friends. Dining outside or at the bar can be quite fun. The interior may be a little loud, but not much different than what might be encountered at other restaurants. Terrible! No flavor in either of our dishes whatsoever. Sauce tasted like it had soap in it. Restrooms were filthy.. if they don't take care of those, I'd hate to see the kitchen. We asked for a manager and was told the GM George would come by. He never did. We asked again as we (regrettably) paid the check. The server was embarrassed when he told us that George didn't want to come over and talk to us. Terrible food and even worse customer service! Too many other good options to spend money at. My friends and I tried Armando's for the first time, Although the food was great the server we had made us very uncomfortable. We had to ask what drinks were on happy hour, what the dinner specials were, and for bread after we waited 30 minutes to order salad and a appetizer. Every time he came up to the table he acted like he didn't wanna be there and would leave as quick as he could. It was super unusual and we didn't notice it as much until we asked for more bread and he THREW the bread on the table and didn't say anything. It was unbelievable. For a nice Italian restaurant we were not expecting the service that we got. Unfortunately for him I haven't had such terrible service like that in a WHILE. Not sure if I would ever go back. We were seated right away as we had a reservation, the temperature outside was in the high 90's and it was not much cooler on the inside. We did ask if there was somewhere cooler we could sit and they did accommodate us but when waiters came in and out of the small area they would leave the door open to the outside...again it got pretty warm and lots of flies. Our server was very nice but the food was mediocre at best. Someone at our table had chicken picatta and someone else had chicken parm...the chicken was dry and tough. We're done with Armando's. Tired of the smug arrogant manager, the amateur hour hostesses and the marginal service. Every time we show up, there are tables but "none are available" and they'll offer some ridiculous floating two top in the middle of the street, edge of the sidewalk or something next to the kitchen, door, trash can etc.. Even when we ask, the manager or whatever he is just stands there and stares like some sort of smug doorman in a cheap shirt. Never once has he reached out to say hello, sorry we're busy, nothing. Tonight the excuse was "we're expecting a big party". We went to Pepe's Mex next door those tables at Armando's are still empty. We set up a graduation brunch here and the waitor serving us just decided to take orders at random times and incomplete. So some people received their apps and entre before other people's orders were even taken. Huge lack of coordination and training. We ordered a pizza and after a 50 minute wait still didn't have it. When we asked to cancel it, we were told "they got tea backed up" as the bartender pointed towards the kitchen. I don't know why it's taken me so many years to write a review for Armando's as we are long standing customers. However this last visit was 10 star, not just 5. Service from the hostess stand was professional and kind. They accommodated a last minute request for a table. The waiter was attentive and friendly. I always order the Spaghetti Carbonara both at the restaurant and through UberEats. However this time I got the Veal Saltimbocca. WOW! I've never cleaned my plate in my life but I couldn't leave a bite left. My husband's old favorite is Pollo Vesuvio and they'll still make it if you ask. It can get hot inside the restaurant in the summer, but when making a reservation ask for a cooler spot. Armando's is authentic and local. Make sure you try if you're an out of towner. read more

Lovely, such amazing, fresh made Italian food! I dined on the porch on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. The service was pretty good, a little slow but what he lacked in speed, he made up for in passion of the Italian culture. The mozzarella and tomato app can be subbed with olive oil instead of balsamic, like the REAL Italy suggests, I also suggest it! The pizza was pretty tasty, on the thin crust side and fresh. I loved the house salad too, great start to the meal and the pear shavings made the entire thing! Overall I loved dining here and can't wait to return. I went to Armando's for a graduation lunch. We were seating in the main dining area. The decor is super authentic. I loved the atmosphere. They sat up promptly and took our orders timely. We did not feel rushed. The food was really good! I had the salmon salad and I enjoyed it. My husband ordered the chicken over pasta but asked to have it with spinach instead. They happily made the accommodation however the piece of chicken was very very small for an entree. Clearly it's not meant to be the star of the dish and you need to have it with pasta to get an appropriate portion my sister's pizza was really tasty and the pasta and meatballs were excellent. I HIGHLY recommend getting the Calamari and mussels as an appetizer. I live in NJ but would definitely go back if I am ever back in Winter Park. read more

Armando's is located in Hannibal Square, just off Park Avenue in Winter park. (In the former Hot Olives spot, near Dexter's Winter Park.) We had a great first experience this weekend, dining with a large party for a friends birthday. Staff was very accommodating when my friend made the early dinner reservation for 15. Upon arriving, they happily took the birthday cake to the back, asking if it needed to be put in the fridge. Nice. The party arrived over 15-20 minutes- each new guest was promptly greeted, drink orders taken and delivered quickly. Suggestions were made on the menu, as it was a first visit for all of us. Wine menu had some great offerings by the glass and by the bottle. We started off with the Rose Cava and moved to a Chianti. Sitting near the bar, we saw some tasty drinks being created and the Blackberry Mojito looked amazing. Hubby and I enjoyed the house salad with pear and I ordered a wood fired pizza, he ordered the pasta with mussels. Raves for all of our choices! We split the house salad and it arrived in to separate bowls, nice touch- no extra charge. I enjoyed the Caprese pizza, with artichokes. ($14.95+1.50 for extra topping) The pizza crust was not too thick or thin, tender and cooked perfectly. I would have appreciated some more cheese and toppings, but when topped with some sprinkled parm, it was great. Nice sauce, for sure. Hubby loved his pasta, a nice portion of Orecchiette with Mussels, mushrooms and a flavorful garlic wine sauce. (15.95) Hubby would have been happy with a double portion. :) The Carne pizza was ordered by the Birthday boy, everything from chicken to sausage was on this pizza, but somehow it wasn't meat overload. His wife ordered the San Daniel pizza and commented how amazing the flavors were between the shaved cheeses, prosciutto and fresh arugula, (plenty of toppings on hers!) They also ordered the Caesar salad, which they said was delicious. I sampled the dressing, which had a nice salty zing to it from the anchovies. Pizzas and pastas dominated our table, with everyone thrilled with their choices and sampling from each-others plates. The evening ended with our B'day cake, along with coffee and espresso. Delicious! The checks were split up and the server made a point of showing each guest that 18% gratuity had been added to our checks. First time a server has taken a moment to point that out, it was appreciated. The place was packed by the time we left, with a line out the door. Reservations would be a must, even for a small party. Ok, for $105.00 for two, IMO you can do a hell of a lot better elsewhere. Yeah the wine was $27 of the bill, which proved to be enjoyable. The "garden" dining area too was delightful with the propane heaters gassing the area into 70º's, and the 2" globe string lighting creating that warm expensive looking ambiance glow, but you know, when we are paying this much for a meal, there should be no doubt if it was worth it! The Bruschetta Classica was good to look at and a fair tasting experience. The four tapas comes out completely covered in halved cherry tomatoes on a 3/16" unusually textured toast, roasted red pepper and and stray greek olive topped with basil strips. Still haven't figured out the toast texture thing. Not crispy like toast but kinda stale-ish I guess. This really needed some cheese, garlic or something to make it truly POP - for us. Do again? Nah, not at $11.00.Mellow Mushroom has my heart for this entree. The bread and olive oil was nearly a Naaaah-thanks. The bread was warm and a good texture but to put the olive oil and balsamic vinegar in a small bowl?? for dipping?? is just bull chit inexperience? We found it nearly impossible to get any of that "bottom dwelling" balsamic onto our bread. Well when the oil is 1/2" deep that is. This condiment really should be served on a saucer folks, for dredging. Oil coated bread won't sop up much else, and to apply any pressure to facilitate the balsamic adhesion / absorption - well was unthinkable unless you wanted to "do your nails" in olive oil at the same time. So I'm convince the regular chef who has been creating all the 5 star rated entrees was off tonight. I ordered the Lasagna Carne and asked for a side of Italian Sausage. Loved the $5 sausage add! (I was advised the sausage would come from the pre sliced pizza components, which was fine.) Glad I supplemented the dish. The pasta lacked the desired al dente texture and the meat sauce was less than meaty or exciting. The cheese was barely adequate in quantity but also lacked the juice to pull this dish into a favorite category. Do again? Nah, not when BRAVO's! Mama's Lasagna Bolognese sets the bar as high as they have. Finally their Tiramisu -simply proved to be just watery, no mascarponie creaminess and seemed to be missing any nuance of rum. An unassuming pizzeria on one of Winter Park's beautiful bricks streets, but this place has really great food and drinks! I came here this week with seven friends. We sat outside and enjoyed a gorgeous evening. I had their signature champagne cosmopolitan drink which was delicious! Anything with bubbly hits my spot. I got the pappardelle bolognese and the portion was massive. I took it home, my husband ate some that night and we STILL had enough left over to have lunch the next day. He loved the food so much we are going to try and come here for date night this weekend! read more

Had lunch here over the Labor Day weekend.  We were seated quite quickly, even though it was a holiday weekend..  Waiter was quick to welcome us and to take our drink order. I ordered the Caesar Salad and then decided to have the pasta fagioli as my entrée.  The Caesar was wonderful but the best was the pasta fagioli.  This bowl of delight was full of pasta ears, white beans, tomatoes, celery and other assorted veggies, swimming in a huge bowl of wonderful broth, and I mean huge.  This, undoubtedly, was the best pasta fagioli I have ever tasted.  My lunch partner also had a Caesar Salad and then settled for the Marguerite Pizza with eggplant, tomato, basil, garlic and topped off with mozzarella. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a delightful meal.   Excellent Italian restaurant in the center of Winter Park with inside and outside seating.  Public parking nearby. read more

We started the night walking from our hotel through winter park after a long day of meetings in anticipation of an outstanding meal with coworkers and wine! We walked up to Armando's and were pleasantly greeted by three people and immediately escorted to our table. The inside of the restaurant has a comfortable feel with an open kitchen to see the "magic" happen. After being sat, our server Madison came and introduced herself. I'll say right now that she was outstanding! She was pleasant and informative and is a shining example of our youth. She shared the specials for the day and did a great job describing what could've been the best meal of our life. She answered everyone's questions and guided us with suggested based on what each of us wanted. The group started with appetizers that were good. The calamari was tender and the bruchetta solid. The mussels though were over done more than a Jean Claude Van Damm movie! You wanted to like them but just made it difficult to suspend that much disbelief. Now to the entrees! Many of us ordered the seafood pasta special and the portion was enormous; however, that was the high point of the dish. The seafood was decent but again seemed either frozen and reheated or just plainly overlooked. It lacked in seasoning and the pasta just wasn't tender and that good. One of us ordered eggplant parm and he had to send it back because it was cold. All they did was stick it back in the broiler to heat it up. The highlight was the filet that was ordered. Flavor was good but medium came out medium plus which means it came off the grill at the right time and sat in the "window" too long and kept cooking. It tasted the best of all the dishes. Madison told us it would be! The night fell upon us and the wine starting catching up and so of course we had to order desert. I didn't try any of the others but the cannoli was very good and my highlight to the night other than the incredible companions and service by Madison. This was a decent meal and a nice evening. I rarely ever go downtown and where I would come back to Armando's, I'm not making a special trip just to go. Check it out. It's worth a try. read more

Came here for a company event one evening on a Tuesday so it was pretty dead. My boss really likes this place and so he had me book reservations for the group here. We had about 16 people so it did take longer for the food to actually come out because they want to have everyone's out on the same time. Their special was lamb chops for the night and that was exactly what I ordered. The lamb chops flavoring was great, with some red wine sauce. What was even better was the presentation. i was immediately eating with my eyes when I saw it, and so was everyone else at the table. read more

As close to mom's kitchen as I've found in Orlando. This locally owned pasta pavilion boasts a menu of Italy's classic dishes cooked as they should be. A monthly gathering spot for one of my groups, the pizza is always bursting with flavor and the service impeccable. A recent office outing there was just as pleasant with the lunch menu delivering excellence in every bite. I'd highly recommend the calamari as an appitzer. My 5th time coming to this restaurant and it was always good, except last night. Our server was great, however they overcooked our steak. We showed our server and he agreed that it was overcooked and would bring us another one. When the server asked for the plate back we said we'd like to continue eating the sides while we waited. They said the chef "needed" to see the steak as he didn't believe us. The manager George came over and said he has to show the chef and this was the restaurant policy. I asked if he managed the chef or if the chef managed him since his word apparently wasn't good enough. A new steak was brought to the table and when I asked George if the chef agreed that it was overcooked, he ignored me and kept walking away. I went up to him and asked why he ignored me and threatened to call the police if I didn't go sit down. This place is TERRIBLE and the manager George should be fired. read more

I highly enjoyed the service and food experience I received here. This is a great restaurant for large parties and the vibe here is very classy. I came with a reservation for 16 people on a Friday night and the table was beautifully set up even though I arrived five minutes early. There were other large party events going on in different sections of the restaurant too. The food wait wasn't too long, about 20 minutes or so. Our servers were very friendly and mine even helped me decide on my order because everything in the menu sounded perfectly fine in my belly. I ended up ordering the carne pizza and the pappardelle mia which contained pieces of smoked salmon in a delicious cream sauce. The papparadelle was cooked perfectly and the sauce was flavorful. However next time I would probably go with another protein base because I didn't enjoy the smoked salmon as much as I thought. It felt out of place and slightly overwhelmed the dish. As a decorated food ninja, I also managed to try the spaghetti carbonara, which was my favorite bite of the night because it tasted absolutely sublime! Heads up: The pizzas are big (about 12 inches diameter). So unless you are the guy next to me, you are probably better off sharing with a friend. Also the crust is about medium thickness, which surprised me because I was expecting a thin crust. Overall, excellent vibes and good Italian food, what more can I say? read more

I love this place for their Pizza. The tiramisu is OUT OF THIS WORLD. The pizza is probably the best I've ever had, and I've eaten quite a few in Italy. Same goes for the tiramisu... Nice patio area, swanky inside but not pretentious. You can even sit up to a bar by the pizza kitchen which is fun as you can watch the chefs in action.
