Quality of food and service is excellent. Charred Naan bread with dips is a must have. Branzino, prime rib sandwich, wagyu double cheeseburger, steamed broccoli are all sone of our favorites. Challenging to get a reservation, but the wait list process is really efficient. read more

I run a small business, so I can understand that things happen and people run late. But today is the third time in the last three years I have tried to stop by here after 10:00 on a day they claim they will be open and they are closed. And I'm not there at 10:02, I'm there around 10:25. THREE TIMES! Just change the hours you post to reflect when the staff will actually be there. No shame in opening the store a little later, but this is insane. It says they open at 10:00 on Thursdays everywhere including on the door of the business. read more

Brian is very helpful and knowledgeable. This store has everything you could ever need if you are into smokers. Stick with this store as compared to big box stores as you will never get customer service as you do here! I live down the street from here and have been going here for 9yrs. They have everything!! The owner, Bryan, is outgoing and friendly. He delivers firewood to me, even carries it up the stairs. I love having this hardware store in my neighborhood. I don't have a car, so this is very convenient. I would definitely recommend stopping in and checking it out. The other staff I have encountered here are friendly and helpful as well. Great neighborhood establishment! read more

What a great hardware store! One of the few remaining gems that are still able to compete against the big box megastores. Brian, the owner, is super friendly and has an encyclopedic knowledge about all things hardware. It helps that this is also the nearest neighborhood hardware store to me. Lots of outdoor grills are sold here. They specialize in Big Green Egg ceramic grills, which are on display at the store, but they also have plenty of other brands, in case a 300-lb neon green BBQ sphere is not your cup of tea. Note that the entrance to the store is not on Armitage, but around the corner on Bissell Street. It took me a minute to figure that out. Parking is pretty tight around here, so give yourself a few minutes to circle around to find a spot. And assume you'll need to pay for parking. As for me, I'll probably bike or walk over next time I need something--might as well get some exercise while getting some hardware. :) read more

One of the last truly family-owned and operated business in the neighborhood. I've been going here for 25+ years and never once had a bad experience. Although their brick-and-mortar store has downsized significantly throughout the years (we can thank big box stores and online shopping for that) this little gem has a lot of the essentials. I went in the other day to find screen-clips, and although they didn't have them in stock, Brian ordered them called me when they came in. Plus, unlike Home Depot, they know where everything is and can actually answer your hardware/home improvement questions. Hope they stay in the neighborhood for many more years! read more

Walk in. Nobody there. I could have walked out with a $500 grill. Walk to the back....stare at the employee, who's doing something on the computer....finally ask for help....only to find out that they don't have a 5/16 bolt or screw....are you joking?! A HARDWARE store without a relatively common bolt or screw? FAIL. read more

Knowing that the store is small and the inventory sort of limited, I called to see if they had a product I needed..indeed, they did! The man I spoke with said he would have it right by the register for me. I walked around the corner to get it (great location for us Lincoln Parkers--although the entrance is now on Bissell) and they had it waiting for me...plus a treat for my dog. They may not have everything, but they are amazingly nice and helpful. I have also used them to make keys (they always work!) and get propane tanks as they have an exchange. Many people in this neighborhood are concerned about larger stores overtaking the smaller shops, which have defined Armitage for years. I'm glad to see that Armitage Hardware is still around and carrying on the original feel of the neighborhood. read more

This review is for their green egg merchandise and customer service. We purchased a green egg about a year ago and the lady there was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the product. We have since been in for other green egg products and have received second to none customer service by a young gentleman. This place is a must for any green egg enthusiast who lives in the city. Yes, their prices might be slighter higher than competitors, but support locals! It's worth the convenience. read more

I called them up looking for a rib rack for my dad's big green egg. The guy on the phone was really nice and helpful. He offered to put one a side for me. I asked how late they were open and he said 5. I told him I couldn't make it from work to get there by 5. He said not to worry that if I saw the light on then someone was still there. Sure enough I got there at 5:30 and someone unlocked the door and let me in to get the rib rack for my dad. Now that's customer service! read more

My husband and I stopped in here after work this week. It is a family owned store. Going forward, I will shop here for anything home related that we need because of their wonderful customer service.The grandfather was incredibly kind and helpful! I felt like we had been transported out of Chicago and into a small town where everyone knows each other. Loved this place. read more
