Tres Magnifique! Finally, real honest to goodness fabulous pastries in this area. From the first cream puff we purchased, we were hooked! We have since tried many items and each one is just as fab as the other. My fiancé and I were on our way home from a day at the winery when we saw Arno's Pastry. I wanted to check it out so we decided to make a stop and we are so glad we did! Upon arrival I could tell the pastries were legit-everything looked so tasty and beautiful. Arnaud greeted us in such a kind and gentle way that it immediately made me want to try his pastries even more. It was hard picking from all the delicious looking treats but my fiancé and I finally chose a slice of his pear tart and a mini fruit tart. Both were amazing. The pear tart had just enough sweetness with the almond pastry cream and the slightly firm pear. It had perfect balance of flavors. The fruit tart had the right amount of sweetness with the smooth pastry cream and fresh fruit. The crust was nice and thick. You can tell Arnaud is a very experienced and skilled pastry chef that knows how to balance flavors. My fiancé and I were both very impressed. We definitely will be back. read more

The only negative is that these pastries are not available everyday (though you can place orders by phone or through the instructions on the website). Unbelievable! Happened upon Arno's pastry food truck at Gilbert's Corner on Easter Sunday. He was sold out of large size desserts which was great for us since we chose 3 different smaller versions and got to try more!! Creme Brûlée, pineapple coconut tart and chocolate pistachio tart. Pastry was flakey, just a bit buttery; the perfect vessel to deliver the astonishingly airy cream center that wasn't overpowering with sweetness. Arnaud Herodet, Arno's Pastry's owner and pastry chef, is as friendly, professional, and kind as other reviewers have described. And he's one amazing pastry chef. Arnaud's past experience includes executive pastry chef for the French Embassy in Washington (read more on his website). Though quite accomplished, Arnaud is refreshingly approachable and humble, very hard to find in any industry. For my mother's birthday, he made a beautiful, light, and elegant fraisier. Until I placed my order for a "strawberry cake," I had no idea what a fraiser was. Fraisier is a French cake composed of light layers of sponge cake interspersed with strawberries and creamy custard, topped with more strawberries and the most beautiful marzipan in the whole wide world. My favorite was the marzipan, but I loved everything about this airy, refined cake. It was moist, had interesting texture, and tasted heavenly. There's a slight hint of liqueur, which is just right, needed. And like my Vietnamese mother prefers, it was very European, not too sweet. This labor intensive creation pleased my husband, my mother, and me very much. My last experience with French style pastries was Pastries by Randolph in Arlington. Randolph is good, but I think Arnaud's cake was even better than the ones I've had from the aforementioned business.Truly, perhaps the best cake I've had in my 30+ years of existence. [applause] Besides the quality of the desserts, my husband and I were also impressed by Arnaud's generosity. He added a box of a macarons for my mother since it was her birthday. And Tom N. said that those macarons were the best he ever had. We left the rest for my mom, but we secretly regretted not taking some home. Again, Arnaud is super nice. And he's very responsive. After I submitted my order through his website's form, he confirmed receipt of my order right away. The pick-up location is his home in Chantilly, and he's very good about arranging a time to be there to help you. Just be sure to keep an eye out for an e-mail address that's his personal and not Arno's Pastry. Arnaud is also easily reachable by phone. This is by far the best pastries I have ever had and the prices are extremely good for the quality you receive. Arnaud is very friendly and happy to answer any questions. Every single pastry looks BEAUTIFUL, I highly suggest looking at the gallery section on his website, but don't do it on an empty stomach...I just made that mistake. My fiance gets the macaroons every time and says they are perfect! I like to try something new every time and I never regret it. I HATE lemon meringue pie, but for some strange reason I decided to get the lemon meringue tart. I think I found a new favorite... Every single layer of the lemon meringue tart could be enjoyed individually and when put together you will be kicking yourself for not having more! The tart part was very good, but I can't get over the fact that I find pie crusts to be dreadful, yet I couldn't get enough of it; just thinking about the crust makes my mouth water. I cried tears of joy! How did I forget about these French delights?! I used to enjoy these sweet treasures more regularly when I lived in the area. Monsieur Arnaud even does special orders, that he will let you pick up at market. I was first introduced to his artisanship when a friend from Normandie ordered his King Cake for Mardi Gras. But I find the real surprises come in his tarts. We shared several including the pear tart on an almond crust, the raisin and pecan tart, the chocolate eclaire, creme caramel and a choux caramel (like a cream puff but filled with a sabayon cream and drizzled with caramel). All that for just $20. That would have cost twice that at any other pastry shop. My guests were all floored at how delicious and authentic these "farmers market" pastries were.
