He thoroughly investigated a roof leak that was causing water damage to a ceiling inside. There were a couple of possiblities - he fixed the most obvious one (a nail hole through the shingles) and rather than start tearing things up, he worked with me to provide a strategy to determine whether there were additional issues in the flashing and dormer windows. He could have done a lot of work and charged me for it. But he instead he offered a more conservative, affordable approach, without doing uneccesary work. He didn't charge me for his visit - I will follow-up with him and he will bill me when he does the work (if it is needed beyond the nail repair). In the meantime, we have a plan so that we can pinpoint the problem while protecting the house from further damage. We all look for that honest, hardworking, and experienced contractor who will make decisions in the interest of the homeowner, as if it is their own house. It is a rare find, but when you find them, you hang on to them and work with them for years. I expect to be working with Joe and highly recommending him in the years to come. Thanks Joe.

I hired City Renovations & Remodeling for a bathroom remodel last summer 2020. Michael Wiggs,…read moreowner/project manager, was assigned to my project and he was/is extremely unprofessional, nothing was on time, disrespectful behavior towards myself during disagreements and provided horrible customer service throughout the entire project. I would not highly recommend working with him and in fact if you've already received services from him please seek legal counsel. The contract I signed stated that this business is LICENSED, BONDED and INSURED in DC, which it is not. The license provided on my contract expired in 2006 per DCRA website. This inaccurate information is fraud. Michael Wiggs consistently reneged on many of the contract terms which were previously negotiated at the time I signed the contract. My contract was signed May 15,2020. The contract stated the projected start date was June 22, 2020. Work did not begin until August 10th and a new contract was not created. In addition, the contract's projected duration of the project was 2 weeks, weather permitting. My project was not completed until November 11th (4 months for a small bathroom remodel). In my opinion this was due to Mr. Wiggs poor project management. The first 6 weeks of the project I was out of my Condo because this is my only bathroom and the financial hardships placed on me at a time when COVID-19 was shutting down the DC area put a ton of stress on me. I was paying for living arrangements I could not utilize and I did not budget to be gone for the amount of time I had to be. I never received any compensation for this failure of Michael Wiggs to maintain the project timeline. When I returned to my unit I only had a toilet. There was no vanity, sink, or shower installed. One of my allotments was pocketed without a service or product being given. The contract mapped out 6 disbursements of money. However, once the project was almost half way through I was told by my contractor they could only withdraw 2 times from my loan and we needed to withdraw asap before my money was gone. Lastly, in the contract under "items not included" permit cost was stated, but within my line items permit was listed at a cost of $0. I eventually had to have DCRA close out my permits because he refused to close them out. There was always consistent miscommunication and lack of accountability from Michael Wiggs business, every issue was met with contempt instead of trying to find a solution. After all of this occurred, Michael Wiggs attempted to bully me by having a lawyer, Perry L. Foreman Jr., reach out to me to settle in the amount of $1,080.77 or they would move to sue me to obtain what they believe is what they are owed. Please understand as a consumer an unlicensed business cannot sue you in a jurisdiction that they aren't licensed. That's literally the purpose of the license so that the business can be protected by local laws. I did not give in to this tactic and instead I reached out to DCRA and the Consumer Protection Agency. Both of these local government offices have been extremely disappointing because they act as if they can't take action on the exact situations they were established to perform. The intentions of this review are to make all consumers aware of his business practices, understand local government offices will not be of any assistance and the best way to resolve these issues is to not get involved with them. When looking for a contractor please contact a property management company for a referral or obtain a referral from a trusted family member/friend. Make sure to obtain a business license, business insurance and scope of work from all contractors.

They painted the whole house and and repaired a part of the foundation that had been destroyed during the recent earthquake. The quality of the work was fantastic and I have no complaints. William is an inexperienced young man that is horrible with replacing gutters. He made things…read moreworst. However, the crew that worked on the roof are hard working, but they removed a lot of the mesh guards from the gutters and there were a couple of spots that needed a little more sealant against the walls. There were some soft spots on the roof in which I suspected that they omitted putting the layer underneath. Although Wiliam replaced the mesh guards a few days later after I inspected the roof when he returned to work on the gutters, the mesh guards installation was very sloppy. The mesh guards are all bent and crumbled all the way across. It was definitely not what I was expecting or how mesh guards are supposed to be installed. It appears to be done by someone attempting to install mesh guards for the first time. William procrastinated on a small gutter replacement and didn't start working on it until the afternoon of the 2nd day of the roof replacement. After starting the work on the gutter, he said that the gutter won't stay in place as is and asked for $400 more. He left the gutter unfinished and hanging loose. He stated that he would be back the following week to work on it. Although he came a few days later to finish the work, I had to make another long drive to the house than needed if he were to have started the work on day 1 of the roof installation. The tenant stated that the gutter work was unprofessionally done by William and upon seeing the pictures that he took, I totally 100% agree. The end opposite the downspout fell off within less than a day after installation. It rained the day after installation and water was going down the kitchen door instead of the downspout. Even if the end had not fallen off, rain would not drained through the downspout as that section is not sloped down towards the downspout.
