I have dined at Aoyu in person, and ordered take out multiple times. The food is always delicious-…read morefresh fish and produce. I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. Thanks for being such a great restaurant in riverdale Aoyu!

Nice little restaurant with quality fish. Cozy atmosphere with low key lighting and tasteful decor…read more Pretty much a basic selection on the menu, no real big surprises here, but it is all fresh and delicious. Everything from sushi sets to omakase, ramen, rolls, soup dumplings and other well-known Japanese dishes. Generous portions at a decent price. It is sushi after all. The staff is attentive and the service is excellent. Good for lunch, dinner or take out. The intimate atmosphere makes it a nice place to take a date as well...

Was contemplating walking in here for some time and happy to say that I am pleased not disappointed with the food or service. The Salmon roll with avocado & sweet plantains, Chicken Chow Fan & Coconut Mojito were all delicious. It was a slow night where workers outnumbered patrons but that only made for a relax Covid19 post world dinner for me free from crowd.

My cousin mentioned this place specifically because they have "fusion" sushi rolls so we decided to…read moretry the $55 platter of 5 chef's choice rolls (there are only 6 on the menu) and although I liked the one that had some sort of Seafood mixture on top and the maduro on top, the rolls were very basic and took a long time to come. The smell of hookah coals being lit is very unappealing while trying to eat. They do charge 18% gratuity automatically and while the $8 happy hour margaritas were not bad they charged us $12 for two (not very cool in my opinion when we are only one of two parties there during happy hour). The calamari was almost too chewy to be good- but the seasoning and sauce saved it. The waitresses were excellent and seem to only speak Spanish- but I was able to get by with what I know to say. This is close to where my family lives and not far from where I grew up so it's nice to see new places- I would just come for drinks and hookah in the future though.

My husband and I were in NYC on business and Akura was only a few blocks from our subway stop and…read moreour meeting. We were surprised to see it was highly rated and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed!! This restaurant on the Upper East Side looks unassuming but the quality, service and prices were all excellent. We started with pan fried gyoza and fried shumai. Not every restaurant offers fried shumai and I prefer it to steamed shumai, which sometimes has a slimy texture on the outside. Both appetizers were some of the best I've ever had, crispy, fresh and delicious. I ordered the lunchbox special with beef teriyaki. I couldn't believe the portion for the price. A lot of places make you choose soup or salad. This came with both, along with a California roll, white rice, some veggies, steamed shumai and the protein -- a choice of teriyaki chicken, beef or salmon. You could also order a sushi or sashimi lunch box for a bit more. The ginger dressing tasted fresh and delicious, with just a little spice. My husband ordered California rolls and spicy tuna rolls, also a lunch special. He said it was the best spicy tuna he's ever had! Akura is a bit off the beaten path for places we normally visit in Manhattan but we may just have to come back! Downside? No alcohol but you could bring your own with no corkage fee if you wanted. They served water, soda and even hot tea in stainless steel tumblers. I liked them for cold beverages but it was a bit odd for green tea. Not a dealbreaker at all - but interesting enough that I noticed! I kinda want the same glasses for my house as they kept drinks nice and cold! Very friendly staff, quick service - well deserving of 5 stars.
