Preface, food was good, drinks were tasty, BUT..... I think that in all restaurants there is an expectation of service. Attentive and enthusiastic server, quick and seamless service, a nice environment/experience with communication, etc. This experience just didn't hit the mark. Mid afternoon on a weekend, not busy at all, we ordered an appetizer that can be eaten with your hands but were never offered silverware. I understand that french fries are a finger food, but silverware is an expectation of service. Also, after our food came, I wasn't really digging the cajun ranch and really just wanted regular ranch, but there was never a check back to see if we needed anything. The bartender never came back (or even walked by) until we were ready to go. This is also an expectation of service. A smile goes a long way. I will go back because the menu looks awesome and the beer list is pretty significant. Just add in some stellar service and this place will be a fave. read more

This place use to be phenomenal however as with most great establishment they do crap to screw it up to save money I'll assume. Came in this evening for diner and first thing I noticed it wasn't as crowded as I'd expect for a Saturday night. After ordering I pretty much learned why. Food was horrible and service was just about the same. Wings looked like they came from a sick chicken...fajita plate was dry and lacking in ingredients. Me and my wife recently moved to the area and went to this Aroogas in Shippensburg on a Saturday evening for dinner. There was no host when we arrived, one of the kitchen staff was courteous enough to show us to a table. I cannot remember our waitresses name but she was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. We ordered some drinks, sizzling fajitas and wings. The food was decent but nothing crazy. I understand it is a sports bar after all, but what me and my wife experienced was far from acceptable. The table in the middle of the room which was probably a party of 10, they were building a tower of beer cans which  continuously kept falling over. They continued to curse and shout obscenities. Their waitress was being sexually harassed right in front of everyone; one of the guys would kept leaning back in his chair stopping her from walking by and saying derogatory things to her, they were clearly overly intoxicated and were cut off by the waitress; only for one of the guys to get up and order more at the bar and they continued to serve them no questions asked. Our table and all the others surrounding us were disrupted. The table next to us mentioned something to their waitress and I also got up and said something... I believe it was the "manager" who came over with a recyclable can... put it in the middle of the room to have them put all their cans in the bin which were probably over 50 cans of beer. No one came over to address the issue or to ask them to pay and leave. As a business, if you want to be successful you need to set standards and enforce them which they did not do. Overall this was a HORRIBLE experience. I have been to other Aroogas and have never seen a display of negligence and unprofessionalism as I did here or in ANY other establishment. I am writing this, not for my benefit, but in hopes this will be corrected by higher management because it is a trainwreck. I will not be returning here. read more

Walked in and waited five minutes just to get a table . The hostess was the most unfriendly human being. We were pushed out by the waiter after being told power would be shut off at seven with no prior warning. We had to pay before even getting food. The music is too loud. Had to sit on the bump of the booth because of poor upholstery skills. Brother was upset. So much for a birthday dinner. Been here twice and hopefully won't have to be asked to come (at least not for the food) again. Nothing I've ever had here was any good. It was all bland, or just tasted like hot sauce; I'm not even talking about the wings either. It's as if they don't use any spices to cook, only sriracha....why yes I like everything i eat tasting the same. Service was slow. Not impressed by anything this establishment has to offer. I can see the appeal during a sports game...but I mean why go here when Chambersburg has a Buffalo Wild Wings with edible food. Had a reservation for a large party way ahead of time and even had someone call the day of. Arrived and our table wasn't ready. Fine. Our party was sizely we can wait a bit. Almost an hour before we received word that we could sit but when shown the table half of our party stood around waiting for a family to finish so we could claim their seats. Completely embarrassing and I felt bad for that previous group. Apps came out very late and drinks -after- that. Then drinks weren't done correctly. Someone asked for a red bull and vodka and they gave him a red bull can and rocks glass brimming with vodka? I honestly wanted to like this place but the experience overall was underwhelming. Management should have trained their employees better and ensured this large of a group had a decent experience. I'm not upset at the waitress. She tried her best in this situation, apologized when appropriate and handled any mistakes creatively accommodating us whenever however she could. read more

Great customer service! My family stopped going to this location for about a year due to poor service but a couple of months ago decided to give it another try. I am so glad we did! The service has improved so much that we try to make it to Arooga's at least once a week. We especially appreciate Laney. This is the napkin the human blood was on after wiping my fingers off from consuming the blood all though my chicken wings. Will never return again. I'm sure the managers name was Curtis. 4/23/17 we placed a pretty decent sized order. I ordered 10 honey BBQ chicken wings (bone-in) and there was human blood all over the top of the box and all through the inside of my wings. Now I have nurses and fire fighters in my house hold that know what blood looks like. The manger tried to blame it on us and say it was one of our burgers which the burger was well done. He was very unprofessional and rude and could careless that me and my niece consumed the chicken wing with the blood. He also tried to blame it on hot sauce which we know for a fact wasn't hot sauce. I could go on and on about this but we have contacted corporate already and we will be taking this further. read more

I've been to this establishment at least 5-6 times in the past and was always really confused on why they had such a low rating on here. I've typically been there for lunch or early dinner during the weekend, so service was fast and the food was good. I've actually had some incredible service here during lunch time and early dinner hours. Well I finally discovered the reason behind the low rating. If you go there while it's very busy, you're going to get very poor service from the wait staff. I went here at dinner time on a Friday and experienced some extremely poor service. Thankfully we thought to call ahead since the wait was about 45 minutes. We got there about 40 minutes after calling and still waited about 15 more minutes, which wasn't too bad. Our waitress seemed pretty nice, but she was very slow to get to us. She was also pretty slow to get us drinks. The three of us ordered and our food took a little longer to get out to us, which was expected, so that didn't upset us at all. I ordered the mozzarella triangles and potato soup, and both of my friends ordered strombolli. Kitchen staff handed us the food and we dug in. After my first mozzarella triangle, I noticed that I wasn't brought a spoon for my soup. I didn't worry about this much because I figured I'd ask the waitress once she comes over to check on us. Unfortunately, it took her forever to ask how we were doing after we got our food. At this point everyone had finished their drinks and I had finished my triangles. We asked for refills and I asked for a spoon. She was slow to bring back drinks and never brought a spoon. I reminded her about the spoon when she brought the drinks. My two friends asked for two more cups of this special holiday sauce that they had. We watched the waitress walk away to other tables. Finally she must have talked to kitchen staff about the sauce, because a guy from the kitchen came out with some sauce for our table. When he got to our table, I explained to him about the spoon and that the waitress still hadn't gotten me one. He came back within 20 seconds with a spoon. I thanked him endlessly. Since it was potato soup and had the cheese layer on top, it thankfully still had some warmth. Although I was completely iratated with the fact that our waitress never got me a spoon after 40 minutes and repeatedly asking. She also must have completely forgotten about it or noticed that I somehow acquired a spoon because she never tried to give me one personally. I was completely appalled at the slow and thoughtless service from this waitress that I will never go back here while they are busy. I highly suggest that you go somewhere else if you do get to this establishment and find them to be very busy. If you have to wait 25 minutes or more, then leave. I also recommend that you not use their handheld terminals to pay your bill. Two out of our three transactions failed and had to be reversed and attempted again. This resulted in two pending charges on my card and the one pending refund. I wasn't very impressed with that. Ask that they manually run your card until they get their handhelds fixed. read more

Although it didn't take long to get our food, it was mediocre. We ordered wings (kangarooga and almost everything) seafood nachos, and a cheesesteak. The sauce wasn't as hot as we thought it was going to be. The seafood nachos were burnt and I felt that it was mostly chips and light on the toppings. I have had better seafood nachos. Service was wonderful. Everyone was super friendly. I'd probably come back just to drink since beer was cheap :D 2.50 for a pint of cold snap!! We came in pretty late in the evening so there weren't many people in the bar. Despite this, we received very minimal service from the bartender. The bar had a large amount of beer on the area where we decided to sit down, and we had to clean it off ourselves. The food we ordered came very quickly and was exactly what we wanted, but we waited so long for new drinks that it ruined the experience. The bartender would wait almost half an hour between talking to us, and was often out of sight so we couldn't get her attention. The room was noticeably too cold, even though I was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. The food deserved at better review, but as I said, the bad service made the whole experience unbearable. read more

It has been a few months that I have been there. I was with a party of about 20 people for a retirement party. One of the people in the party did the chicken wing challenge. He completed the challenge with time to spare. He was suppose to receive a shirt stating he beat the challenge but has yet to receive it. He paid the $20 for the challenge. He has contacted the restaurant a couple of times about the shirt and they keep giving him the runaround. He paid for the shirt they need to give it to him. My sister and I came for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered a Hard Cider and we both ordered sodas. While my sister looked over the beer menu she asked the waitress if she would mind grabbing the other drinks while she decided. Our waitress was pleasant and went for our drinks. She came back with my cider only. My sister decided on a drink and then we finally got her beer and our sodas at the same time. This entire process took about 10-15 minutes and during this time we were not offered menus. After we had our drinks the waitress asked "oh, are you eating today too?" It seemed odd to me that she wouldn't have started by giving us menus when we sat down. We came in for wings but were never told they have a wing special Sunday's until after we pieced our order together from the regular menu. We split our wing orders up in order to try four different sauces (which wasn't a problem at all) but the sauces were just so-so. There is an Old Bay Buffalo that was good but overloaded with Old Bay (usually I can't get enough of the stuff). We also ordered fried pickles and the pickles slid out of the breading every time. I would probably come here again, but the waitress seemed a bit spacey and the service was slow and confusing for being only one of three tables there at the time. read more

I just left Arooga's where I had placed an order for 2 Chesapeake crab dips for $$22.87. First, I waited at the hostess stand for a few minutes waiting for a hostess, but after the second waitress passed me without any acknowledgement, I asked the second one about carry out pick up. (Maybe you should direct customers to go to bar to pick up carry out orders) She directed me to the bar where the barmaid was very pleasant and even checked my order bag. The crab dips were somewhat tasty, but we're missing the shredded cheddar & Motzerella shredded cheese. This would have made them much better; just feel like we were ripped off because it was carry out. The description clearly indicates that the dip is topped with shredded cheddar $ Motzerella cheese, which it needs. August 27/2015: find it odd that no response has been left from Arooga's. Other bad reviews have been responded to and were after my experience. So, Am I too assume the missing cheeses on crab dip is acceptable and/or, my review was not worthy of a response since it was carry out and only $23.00??? read more

Okay, so I was in the mood for ribs. I call the order in asks right off, get told there's an additional charge for that. Not delivery, just to go. Don't remember that last time. So, go there and spend my $26.05 plus tip. Joy. I don't like eating in a bar, and it's a sports bar/restaurant. Too industrial for me. Anyway, guy goes through contents. Okay. I get home, there's no napkins, etc. and lo, when I go to eat it, the fries are just nasty. Chewy. Not so good. Ribs were, okay. Was just disappointing. I had a hamburger before and it was okay. Not that much money okay though. The Amish pirogies were good though. So anyway, will I go back? I don't know. I am not real hip on cutesy "pub" food. It's expensive and the take out fee cheesed me. This a a chain restaurant. There are 6 or 7 in this chain. Didn't know what to expect. Looks like a small local place on outside, but is large modern place on inside. Waiter was friendly and helpful. It was 2 for 1 app night. The appetizers are huge. Very creative dishes and it was all good. I will be back again if in area. You have to try the Buffalo pretzel. After nearly 2 years, I have returned to Arooga's. It is just like I remembered. Great food. Friendly staff. Clean and modern. Hope I get back here sooner next time. read more

Looking forward to my 1st meal in Shippensburg. "Arooga's" cool name! After driving 9+ hours, I was ready to eat! Got here about 1:30p, great parking in the front. Walked in, not greeted right away bcuz it was pretty busy. No problem, busy is a good sign. Grabbed a takeout menu to check out their selections, looked good and prices were reasonable too. Greeted by a waitress and she informed that the bar would "Gladly" take my order. I walked to the bar area. Looked like 1 bartender, she was a little busy. Ok, no problem. Stood there for a couple of minutes bartender finally acknowledged me saying she'd be right back. 2 guys also walked in and sat at the bar. Bartender came back and walked straight to the other 2 guys who just sat at the bar. WTF!! Stood here waiting for at least 5 minutes and the biOtch helps the white guys! Walked out! Chicken wings that you have to sign a waiver for are not hot! What a joke this place is. They make you sign a waiver to think you are getting something special/extra hot and they can't deliver on that promise. These wings were medium at best. In addition to this I ordered the ribs which looked like a cat rib cage as they were so small or something that would be served in Vietnam. A sports-themed restaurant providing almost as many televisions as they do wing sauce combinations. Arooga's turns the typical into atypical by offering so many different, tempting varieties of a bar food menu. The same can be said for their beer menu, from domestic to imports to craft beer, the options are plenty and they're all cold! (I recommend trying the Sam Adams Arooga Amber) Our 1st time visit was on a busy Friday night, but our server, Acacia was an absolute joy. She had our food out in a very reasonable amount of time and kept our glasses filled. With my son going to college in town, we'll be sure to come back. There are a few things visitors should be aware of but certainly not negatives to Arooga's: It's a rather large sports bar/restaurant with high ceilings. It's not a place to have a nice, quiet, sit-down meal. And, when it's busy finding a parking spot might be a challenge. The only drawback I found with Arooga's - and keeping it from a "5-Star" experience was for a cool September evening, I didn't think the AC needed to be on high, but that's not something that would prevent me from returning. read more

Went when I was home visiting. It happened to be Wing night. I figured why not . So I ordered wings. I like both ranch and Blue Cheese with my wings, but not at $2.00 each. At a cost of .07 cents a portion this is ridiculous and gouging your customers to make up for your reduced prices on the wings. Now for the wings. They were extremely tough (Old birds) and many of the drums were broken and chunks of bone everywhere. The sauce was fine but the wings were soaked in puddles of the sauce. Entirely way too much sauce. Kind of wish the Fort was still there. Won't be returning.. BTW in the "business" for 19 years. read more

Love the array of food items the have to offer, but this establishment is very inconsistent on a number of levels. Form apathetic hosts, to waitresses who don't know the menu (Louisiana Garlic is a sauce, and you do in fact get to chose how spicy it is. And no, it's not a double dip) These are the things which need to be improved upon. Well (and before I get beat up about this I KNOW they just opened) so we were told that it was going to be 35 - 45 minutes for a table. We found seats at the bar. Took about 5 minutes for a server to notice us I ordered a draft and it came pretty quickly. It was about an hour and 10 minutes before our buzzer went off. Got to the table which looking back on it we should have just stayed at the bar as the table was right behind the U snapped bar. We ordered our food and it seems a little long for it to come and YES I understand they just opened. My girlfriends burger came out and it was closer to well done than medium as she ordered it. Our server and the GM both offered to replace it but she declined. Yes we will probably go back....maybe give them a month or 2 to get it together. They have 100 tv's and the draft I had was very cold my meal was pretty good. read more

Absolute worst customer service I've ever seen. We weren't greeted, were spoken down to, ignored, and told, "sweetie, you can't talk to a manager, we're busy." I will never ever go back, and will tell everyone I know how terrible and degrading these employees are. My girlfriend and I went there after a matinee. We wanted a more economical dinner, so instead of CJ's we opted for Arooga's. I had been there once for a beer but she had been two other times and was not impressed. The service itself was good, but the quality of food compared to what it cost left us with a very bad taste in our mouth. We ordered the amish perogies (basically fried mashed potatoes with a side of weird runny thousand island dipping sauce for almost $10) and fajitas (although we ordered two different types neither of us could tell a difference between the mediocre two). $50 plus tip for two (without alcohol!) in our opinion is way to much for a sport's bar to charge. I'm not sure how the restaurant expects to stay in business in that type of town, with that *meh* food, charging the prices they do. We will not be returning. read more
