Neelo is amazing! He has been cutting my sons hair since he was 2 1/2 (almost 4 years) and we have followed him all over San Mateo. We live in San Bruno and I make the trip once a month because it is well worth it. I tried a bunch of different places until we found Neelo. He is patient and takes his time cutting my sons hair and the results are great every time! This shop has plenty of street parking and has a very welcoming environment. Prior to going to Around The Edge, it'd been at least 12 years since I'd been to any kind of barbershop or hairdresser. Having been friends with Nilo for a couple years and personally knowing several of his customers, I knew that he was the best in the biz. Nilo's attention to detail and neverending quest for perfection is extremely admirable. He really wants to make sure that your hair looks exactly how you want it and will probably be more upset than you if it isn't. I'll be getting my hair cut here again, that's for sure. read more

I have been going to Around the Edge for my last 4 haircuts and I have yet to be disappointed. Tom cuts my hair and he does and excellent job. I absolutely hating getting my hair cut by new barbers. I feel like I'm gambling because your never really sure how it is going to turn out. Fortunately, this wasn't the case when I went to Tom. He took he time to discuss what he was doing and to really make sure I got what I wanted. He was asking questions that I never had been asked by any other barber. My hair style is much like a basic comb over, but Tom was able to add texture and do an awesome fade. The best thing about my haircut was the compliments I got after. I've had the comb over for about a year (fauxhawk before) and after I went to Tom, I got so many compliments without changing the style. Very happy and very pleased! read more

I've gotten my last few haircuts here from Ren, and I've never been happier. He does amazing work with fades, and he always listens to exactly what i want from a haircut before starting. The store itself gives a super laidback vibe, and everyone there is pretty cool. There's a reason this place has an almost perfect 5 star record, and it's definitely worth checking out. Tom has been my barber for over 5 years and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. It is easy to make appointments with him that fit well with my schedule. He never rushes his work and always takes his time cutting my hair to make sure I am totally satisfied. I have kind of an odd-shaped with points and almost kind of egg-ish in shape, and Tom is able to cut my hair just right so that you it gives the appearance that my head is more normal looking. He is very good doing fades, blends, and tapers, and has also cut my hair with scissors on the top with precision. He is highly skilled at what he does, and after just one haircut you will see what I mean. I commute from San Francisco to see Tom down in San Mateo now because he is that good at cutting hair. I have recommended him to a bunch of my friends, and I will seriously keep Tom as my barber.....forever. He is very friendly and a great guy. FIVE stars. read more

Online it says they are open till 6, I Was at the door at 5:30 and the door was locked with 2 people inside. No polite "sorry we are closed". The sign on the door also said the close at 6. Will not try again. Bad customer service. read more

Ive been getting my hair cut by Tom for 6 years and counting now. I just found out that Tom transfered to Around the Edge in San Mateo and I will gladly commute from Pacifica to San Mateo to go get my hair cut. There is nobody else like Tom. Tom cuts the best hair. When I first got my hair cut by him he worked with me in baby steps because I have a bald spot on the bottom corner in the back of my head from years of wearing a tight pony tail. I cut my hair short and noticed the bald spot. Tom knows how to cut my hair so that the bald spot is minimized and it doesnt even bother me. Tom is very skilled and knows how to use a scissors as well as a clipper. Tom takes his time and really tries to listen to what you want and make suggestions if needed. If I have to get my hair cut by anyone other than Tom I will panic. I'm just glad he didnt move too far :) Tom is the best bar none. read more

Just got a cut from Thomas and was more than happy with the service and cut and he and the shop fully deserve the 5 star yelp rating they have earned. I had my hair short for years and am trying to grow it out. I saw some on his cuts on yelp and liked a certain one. Thomas gave me some tips on styling in the mean time, and also cut my hair to help it grow out better. I'm fairly new to this barbershop in San Mateo but boy am I'm happy. I used to get cut up at Philgood Cuts in SSF but my barber Tom moved to this Barber Shop which was closer to his home. So I decided to follow him as well. When I was living in South San Francisco, I would drive to Around The Edge for a haircut. When I was living in Hayward, I would pay $5 bridge toll just to come to Around The Edge for a cut and when I was living in San Jose I still came all the way to San Mateo for a haircut!! Yes I know you're probably thinking I'm crazy but it definitely was worth it. I highly recommend Around The Edge Barber Shop for fades, taper, line up, shave or anything you need. After a slew of terrible haircuts from Supercuts I finally decided to try and find a good barber shop. Scored with Around the Edge! Got a cut from Danny. He gave me a perfect cut, exactly what I asked for. Can't get much better than that! This will be my new barbershop. It's also got a good vibe in the shop, the barbers joke around with each other, every barbers station is personalized with stuff, etc. feels like a tattoo shop, but again this place has a great vibe. Danny was very professional with his cut and I would highly recommend him and this shop. I've been getting a cut from Ren at Around the Edge every two weeks for the last 3 months. The vibe there is lively and pleasant. All the barbers are great and make you feel comfortable upon walking in. They keep the place pristine and looking good always. Ren gave me an awesome cut that just keeps getting better over time. Got a haircut here because my normal guy was not able to book me this week and I have to get cleaned up for my brothers wedding this saturday. Was able to a get a morning reservation the next day on short notice. The vibe is pretty cool and hip at this place. I got my hair cut by Tom. Really chill guys who makes alot of small talk. Knows what hes doing. Overall enjoyable haircut. My cut cost 30 to get faded up and a little texturing on the top. 2 dollar credit card fee cause they use a square device to charge and 20% tip so total came out to 40. Honestly thats double my usual place I go to and I get a better cut with cleaner line ups. I would come back if I really needed a haircut again but I will stick with my usual guy. read more

Tom has a genius memory--he cut my hair once based on a tiny smartphone photo, added his own slight twist, and has remembered how to replicate it perfectly every time I come in for a trim (which can be as long as six months at times due to my horrendous work schedule). My husband has been going to Nello for a couple of years and now my 6yr old son just started. Nello is great! My son's haircut has been getting a lot of complements from the other mothers. I came here on Wednesday and didn't realize I needed an appointment but Tom was really cool and was going to fit me in but I just opted to come back the next day since I live so close. I was extremely impressed by Tom's skill, he really took the time to go through everything with me and shows that he really cares that you get what you want. After moving back to the Bay Area I was in need for a barber. After doing some research I landed on Around The Edge. I called and was instantly accommodated for a haircut appointntment. I walk in the door and was greeted by Ray by name even tough I never met the guy before. I sat down at Rays chair and we discussed what the plan was. I wanted a one two fade with some length on the top because I put it up in a messy way. Ray did a amazing job on my hair. He practically read my mind on what I wanted and always checked in on me to make sure we agreed on the next step. His touch is so gentle you don't even notice he is even cutting your hair.
