Bucket list item checked off: Fly fish the Madison River in Montana. My husband and I had a wonderful full day fly fishing adventure with our guide Carl. He was so friendly and cared about every detail. We started with training and then hit the water. He was very patient and continued teaching throughout the day. He taught us about the area, the river and pointed out an Eagle flying overhead. We caught at least 10 fish, but only netted 3 or 4. Definitely not Carl's fault. This shop is great! We booked a float trip for two boats. One of beginners and one of vets. I say veteran fly fishers, not pros, and we definitely appreciated the patience our guide gave. Zack was our guide in the boat with experienced fishers and he was great. He had everything that embodied a good guide. He knew the river and the flies and how to untangle line and how to laugh at my dumb jokes and how to untangle lines again and how to be really excited when his client caught fish. We (the vets) insisted on dry flies which only regretted for about an hour of the day, but it was the kind of fishing we like and he indulged us. The beginner boat, guided by Oliver, fished wet and they probably caught more, so I'm glad they could get on fish, too. Lunch was surprisingly good (it's not always on guided trips) so there is another feather in their cap (let's say a nice Cree saddle feather for you fly tying geeks) The shop itself is a nice little store. Great selection of flies and tying stuff, but also a good selection of gear and merchandise. Arrick helped us both times I was in and is a genuinely nice guy. Without getting into too much why, we had some special requests on the guide trip and he made sure they were respected and our needs accommodated. And kudos to Zack for being on top of them as well. Oliver was nice, but I didn't interact with him much. For a town with a fly shop every hundred meters, one really has to stand out. Arricks has stood out in a good way and earned my repeat business and respect. So thank you. We booked a trip with Arrick's and drift boat fished with Wyatt on the Madison river. After a slow start, we hooked fish pretty much all day. Scotch Browns, Rainbows, Cuttbows, and Whitefish were all volunteering to try our flies. We were at first confused about Arrick's shop location as he moved it after an outrageous rent increase to his garage. It worked out well and the service was top notch. We went on a rainy day in May. We had two tour guys Matt and Zach, both of them were great guides for us first timers. We went out about 30 minutes to a part of the Madison River that we can wade in. Tulani was patient and took a great deal of time educating us with what flies were needed and where the fish were jumping. They've got some great flies and streamers that the owner ties himself based on his knowledge of the local rivers. Caught some big Browns in bad weather and difficult river conditions on this trip with these Streamers. The staff was kind and generous with their fishing information and most importantly the shop didn't have that fly fishing arrogance i find in so many fly fishing establishments. read more

So glad we squeezed this little fishing trip at the end of our Yellowstone vacation. Our guide Joe went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great time. He gave us a quick lesson on the basics then sent us in and never stopped coming back to each of us to improve our skills and show us the ropes. Me and my girlfriend have never been fly fishing before and my cousin had only been once, and we all walked away having caught at least 10 fish between the 3 of us. They always give great advice on where the fish are bitting and if you want a guide that knows all the spots and will give you a great day on the river ask for Pat. This place came as a recommendation from another fly fishing guide who was already booked. I was somewhat skeptical because I could not find any reviews on their fly fishing guided tours so I was not sure what to expect. We checked in, completed the necessary paperwork and met our guide, Matt Morrill. He was very personable, knowledgeable and open to any and all questions. My husband and I had alot of fun. Matt gave us a little tutorial and then took us out on the Madison River. He was a very good teacher both explaining and showing us how to improve our fly fishing techniques. My husband and I bought snagged several fish and actually reeled in several between us. We personally felt that the 1/2 day tour was more than enough for us beginners and we cannot wait to try it again. read more

Come here every year to buy dry flies. It's probably because I lack the skill and motivation to tie my own flies. The flies are expensive but what can you do when you're in the middle of nowhere? The staff here is always extremely friendly. They don't mind when I bring my dog inside. They love to chat about fishing and always give good advice on which flies to use and in which areas. read more

There are many fly shops to choose from when looking in West Yellowstone but Arrick's stands out from the beginning. Their pricing is competitive but their customer service is unmatched. When calling around to schedule our fly fishing excursion we chose Arrick's because of the helpful and friendly tone of Arrick himself when he took our call. When we arrived for our day of fishing we met our guide, Pat. Pat was excellent. Pat was easy to get along with and we enjoyed spending our day with him. He was very helpful and supplied us with everything we needed. Based on your level of experience and what you are looking to get out of your fishing trip, Pat has a plan. In addition to the exceptional customer service and enjoyable personalities, the equipment Arrick's fly shop provides is in great condition. We stayed dry and comfortable during our time on the river and our equipment worked great. (And everything was included in our price!) Before our trip we spent an entire afternoon researching and calling around for the right fly shop. I feel 100% confident advising anyone to just call Arrick's directly and enjoy the rest of their day! read more

Let me preface by saying my review is based on their customer service only and not their ability as a fly shop/guide service. I purchased a high end float tube online and, after almost a week of receiving no shipping information, I called to check the status of my order. The store employee was unable to find my order or provide any information, so he said he would have Arrick call me. I called again the next day after my call was not returned. I had a Sierra trip coming up in a few days that was dependent on me receiving the tube. I was able to speak to Arrick and explain my situation. He told me my order had already shipped and he would pull my order and call me back with the tracking number. After another day went by with no call back or shipping information, I reluctantly cancelled my trip. I'm glad I did, because a few hours later at the close of business I received an email from Arrick indicating my order shipped only minutes before the email was sent. No phone call or apolgy for the delay and bad info that the order had already shipped...just an email indicating the tracking #. Over a week to ship my order and zero communication or returned calls from the seller reference shipping. I wonder how long it would have taken to ship had I not called to inquire? Not a good experience... read more
