Our heat pump started making funny noises. Sounded like a bearing going bad. I called ARS Rescue Rooter. The technician quoted me $1,000 labor charge to replace the fan motor. The motor itself was still under manufacturer's warranty. I am a mechanic and have run my own business for 20 years. One look a the fan told me that the three bolts holding it in place and the one electrical clip could be replaced in 30 minutes. When I mentioned this to the technician, he agreed with me, but said that he was "going by the book." $1,000 FOR 30 MINUTES LABOR!! Obviously, we found another firm and are doing business with them instead. The pricing came from the home office in Tennessee, and their GREED has lost them a long-time customer. I originally contacted the company because my AC system was not cooling consistently. During the visit, I was advised that my system had lost a substantial amount of refrigerant and was told the Schrader valve was leaking. I was then quoted approximately $3,500 for repairs. Due to the cost and the diagnosis, I decided to seek a second opinion from another licensed HVAC company. The second technician performed a much more thorough evaluation, including allowing the system pressures to stabilize properly and performing leak detection testing across the coils and system components. No active leak was identified, including no leaking Schrader valve, and the technician advised that the system was operating normally after service. I also discovered that documentation from two prior service visits appeared to be incomplete or missing important details, including information related to refrigerant concerns and leak investigation. That raised additional concerns for me regarding the consistency and reliability of the service history on my system. This large discrepancy between diagnoses was concerning, especially considering the original repair recommendation and cost. I also experienced issues with professionalism from one technician during a prior visit, which added to my discomfort throughout the process. Management did eventually reach out to discuss the matter and advised they would coordinate with Carrier and perform a nitrogen leak test due to the system's history. While I appreciate the follow-up, no guarantees or clear resolution were offered regarding the prior diagnosis, costs, or concerns that had already been raised. Unfortunately, after the conflicting diagnoses, missing documentation, and overall experience, I no longer feel confident in or trust this company's recommendations regarding my HVAC system. We chose the right installer. We talked with several companies to install the condensing Rinnai Tankless water heater with a recirculating pump. Requiring a more complex installation. Kenny provided the most innovative way of installing the tankless water heater. He cleaned up the previous disorganized installation. As a professional, a person who takes pride in his work, Kenny ensured that his work met his and ours extremely high standards. He took his time to ensure we were satisfied with the work. He even built the basic layout of the tankless hot water on the pipes before he arrived. His support, Ledion, provided professional work. They worked as a team. Cleaning up after the complex installation. They went above and beyond the minimum work that would have completed the job. They ensured that the outside pipes looked good, by covering the siding. They also made sure that the whole house filter would not move. Not an easy task, when the filter is connected to an on-demand pressure pump. They cleaned up a previous mess. No other contractor suggested how Kenny installed the tankless hot water heater. In fact, another plumber refused to install a whole house filter. ARS costs were not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. Considering the results, it was the best choice! The cost also was reduced by a 5% Lowes credit card deduction, opposed to another company who wanted to charge me an additional 3% to use a credit card. I have written many reviews, 1 star to 5 stars. I do my best to provide honest reviews to benefit others. The work performed by Kenny and Ledion is a clear 5 stars review. Since we have lived in the house for over 30 years, we never had such a great shower. If you want a Tankless hot water installed, consider yourself fortunate, if you can have Kenny provide you with a plan, and to install your tankless hot water heater. We are! The only negative is that the central ARS call center does not have the lastest information about our other work. It may be frustrating. If you can work directly with the local office, it is easier. They are very difficult to get ahold of after an install is complete to finish permit inspections or repair damages their team did during the install. I've used them twice and both times it took over 5 months to get permits to pass (they had to fix multiple mistakes) which honestly isn't all that bad but it's just impossible to get through to the office. Doing everyone here a favor - this phone number will go through the the main office (it's the plumbing line): 703-366-2355. The one that's listed on the website will go to a call center and that's a black hole, you'll never hear back. In general they are very slow to respond to issues and don't keep good notes. A new technician will arrive every time and they never seem to know any history so it's just a nightmare. I will say the techs I generally don't have a problem with, it's the back-office, disorganization, and fear of managers to deal with customers - it's very disappointing and frustrating. Hire at your own risk, you will be responsible for all the project management of the install - they suck out loud at follow through. Also, they damaged my door and tried to hide it. It's a steel door and the excuse the tech gave me afterwards is that water tanks are heavy, it's bound to happen. What?! read more

At 1:00 PM on Friday, I scheduled a service appointment that was problematic due to poor communication and scheduling issues. The initial appointment email confirmation provided a wide arrival window of 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. At 3:45 PM, I called for an update and was told the service was overbooked. I was given a new estimated time of after 5:30 PM. This was followed by an identical email confirmation at 5:18 PM, and then a "tech is on the way" email at 5:22 PM. I called for an update twice more, at 6:23 PM and 6:47 PM, and was told a dispatcher would call me. The dispatcher never called. The technician, James, finally arrived just after 7:00 PM. The core issue is that I had to call multiple times for updates following the initial overbooking, and your dispatch team failed to follow through on their promise to contact me. This level of customer-initiated follow-up for a delayed appointment is unacceptable. The original issue turned into a week-long ordeal, necessitating three separate technician visits and yielding minimal proactive communication from dispatch. The successful solution was ultimately identified only by the third technician. So I made the appointment for the following week between 8 to 12 noon.On that date at 2 p.m. i call them and said where is the tech. They said he came to my house and called so they left. Worst HVAC contractor I have ever dealt with. An annual inspection on a heater less than one year old caused a communication error between the thermostat and the heater. Three technicians were unable to address the issue, and they did not follow up even after I called them many times. The heater was installed by ARS less than a year ago. Our heater stopped working during the severe cold snap around mid-January. We had a maintenance agreement with ARS and called them to take a look at it. Our technician, Kyle, did a great job diagnosing the issue as a bad control board. He went back to his truck to call the company for a quote. He returned to inform us that it would cost $2700 and take two weeks to be delivered. With the cost so high, he suggested I get a quote from the company for a new system that could be installed the next day. Having been concerned for my family, I consented to having a rep come by later that evening. My wife sensed something was not right. (Glad I married her for that.) My wife is somewhat technology challenged, but even she was able to go online and obtain a quote for a control board for the specific model we had. It turned out that it would cost us $350 and could be delivered in two days for a $40 delivery fee. Using our gas fireplace to get us through the two days, the part arrived. My son was actually able to install it himself by referencing YouTube videos. We were back in business after two days and approx. $400. I now realize ARS was trying to pressure us into buying a new system. I do not fault our technician for this, as I am sure he was only following orders from his company. They sold and installed an HVAC unit that was not properly rated for our home--something a licensed electrician later told us could burn our house down. Since day one, the system has broken down every six months, typically during extreme heat or cold. Even though we paid for their routine maintenance, the problems never stopped. Multiple technicians from the company admitted it was installed improperly, but no one has taken responsibility or offered a real solution. We started reporting these issues within the warranty period, yet management has refused to replace the unit or even let us speak with someone who has the authority to help. We've been stonewalled at every turn. If you care about your safety, time, and money, look elsewhere. They have come to our home several times at our urging. No follow up on their part. A part has been on order for MONTHS. Again, no follow up. I have been Federal Law Enforcement for 28 years and definitely no crooks. ARS is the worst. The "maintenance worker" sabotaged our AC unit when all he was supposed to do was a yearly service. It worked fine until it was "serviced". I brought in a friend who does HVAC for a living, and he found where the ARC "maintenance worker" messed with it. It works fine now. I was stupid enough to enter into a service agreement with these people for which they would provide spring and fall checkups of my HVAC system. This fall, four different times I scheduled an appointment for someone to come and check my heating system, and nobody showed up for any of the appointments. So I scheduled one more time, and for that appointment, the fifth attempt, somebody finally called me to tell me that they weren't going to be able to make it. I scheduled an Autumn check-up with them for my new system to ensure everything was ready for winter. Near the end of the time window in which they were supposed to have arrived, a surly scheduler called to reschedule for a different day. Hello. My HVAC technician came out about an hour late. Started their assessment of my unit. That went okay. But when the technician put panels back they did so poorly. Actually breaking a clasp causing it to fall in the middle of the night exposing the motor and other parts. Which led to my AC freezing up. The next morning, I woke up to call ARS and tell them what had happened they did not get back to me until 6 days later with a manager and asked me did I take any pictures. No I did not take pictures I frantically tried to not have my AC unit be completely wrecked because of negligence. I was thinking to have my $49 tune-up fee refunded but they said no because I did not take pictures. I'm writing a review warning people not to trust ARS. As far as I'm concerned, this isn't a legitimate business, these guys are scammers, and I don't say that lightly. I was quoted $11,000 by ARS technician Manny to replace the entire HVAC system and $3,000 for a compressor, neither of which were needed. Another company came out and correctly diagnosed the issue: a bad capacitor and dirty coils. The actual repair cost a fraction of what I was told. Manny claimed he went to school for HVAC design, yet he failed to recognize one of the most common and inexpensive AC issues. Instead, he tried to upsell me on a compressor that would take two weeks to arrive (which may have been a lie), leaving my tenants to suffer in the heat. This wasn't an honest mistake,vit was either incompetence or intentional dishonesty. What's worse, I felt like they were trying to extort me. They played on the time-sensitive urgency of not having AC, making it seem like our only real option was to replace the system the very next day or wait two weeks for the compressor knowing full well we couldn't leave our tenants without air conditioning that long. To top it off, I received a fake-looking auto-reply email with the repair quote and then a phone call asking if I wanted to proceed. I told the rep it had already been fixed, less than an hour after Manny left, by an honest technician. Yes, Manny was polite, but being courteous while pushing a false or lazy diagnosis isn't acceptable. I could've wasted thousands and left people in unsafe conditions. I booked a plumber through this service to repair a backed up sink in a rental property that I own in Hyattsville Md. They connected me with Blue Dot Services and confirmed that appointment at 9:10 am on a Saturday. The appointment window was from 10-2. I had tenants and others in place to assist if necessary. I had received text back up to let me know I would be called when they were heading to the property. At 11:50 I got a call telling me that they no longer had anyone available to make the service appointment and that they wanted to reschedule. This is 2 hours into their arrival window time. I asked what happened and all they could say was that no one was available and that all they could do is reschedule. I will not be following through with this company and will not seek their services going forwards. I would caution anyone who is considering using them. Unapologetic and a waste of time. read more

We have a maintenance contract with ARS. We have been scheduled three times for a technician to come out and two out of the three have been cancelled last minute. The third was scheduled for today and a technician has yet to show up. They harass us with phone calls to schedule and harass us with text message reminders of the appointment and then they don't show. At one point when I asked how will they service the unit in the dark, they told me they have plenty of light and the technicians want to get paid so they will show up. Shortly after they cancelled the appointment. They're excuse is that they have a high volume of service calls. When you call to check on your appointment they tell you someone will call you back with an ETA and no one calls. Very poor customer service. They do not care about their customers. read more

If rating only the technicians (several have stopped by over the years), I would rate '4-star'; however, I cannot overlook the abysmal service their managers consistently provide. Just for one service issue, in which the receptionist couldn't handle, they promised me on six separate occasions, over a span of three days, that a manager (or in one case, their parts department) would call me back the same day. Despite my repeated reminders, not a single person followed up with the promised call--thereby leaving me hanging each time. This is unacceptable customer service. When Nick arrived, my AC unit was off due to the pleasant weather. He asked for permission to turn it on to conduct the inspection, which I granted, and he assured me he would turn it off before leaving. During the service, Nick identified a melted disconnect box in the attic and some bacterial growth. He quoted me $688 for a disconnect box replacement and an additional $1799 for an air scrubber, suggesting I could finance the total cost through a Lowe's account. Unfortunately, Nick left without turning off my AC unit as promised. Subsequently, I filed a claim with my home warranty company and only paid a $75 service fee to have the disconnect box replaced, which the electrician informed me was only a $20 part. The electrician was also quite concerned to find that I had not been advised to turn off the breaker to the AC unit, as there were two inches of exposed wire, posing a significant fire hazard in my home. While I appreciate Nick's customer service, the failure to turn off the AC unit and the lack of guidance regarding the exposed wiring are concerning. If you are a senior citizen, please be aware. My parents purchased a new furnace with them in Sept 2023 and they sold them an expensive "10 year parts and labor warranty" telling them they won't need to worry about repair costs again. This wed the service technician came to do the fall inspection and wants to charge them $387 to clean the flame sensor. My parents reached out to me for help. After speaking with the service technician, he recommends that we get their service membership of $240 and the cleaning would be covered. I called ARS back and have been getting the run around. Long story short, we are stuck with ARS for their 10 years parts and warranty. I next sent my trusted FH Furr technician go out to my parents house to do another inpection $89 (which came with the Flame Sensor cleaning). He found issues that the ARS technician had missed 1) water leaking that was "fixed" by ARS which was not and should be covered under parts and warranty. So I will need to call ARS back to fix that. 2) Carbon monoxide level is elevated when the furnance closet door is closed. He said the door should be changed to louver doors. Just do yourselves a favor and go with FH Furr (I have used them for years and they are very thorough). read more

Absolutely terrible experience from the start. Their customer service cancelled my appointment without telling me then gaslight me saying I called and called it. Their technicians were about 4 hours late (I can understand stuff happens). The parts required took 5 weeks to arrive, the technician instead of replacing the entire board replaced a fuse and left charging me full price. Their management NEVER called me back after asking multiple times. Stay away from this company! Especially don't fall for the $9or $19 system check & maintenance special at Lowe's like I did. It's just a scam to get you to buy a new unit. The service guy comes in and tells you the unit is leaking meaning carbon monoxide is slowing seeping out (showing bogus pics, could be any random pics). Then he says the reading on the DDM is too high. Meaning my 8 year old unit is working to hard & recommending the unit should be replaced. He calls the sales people to set up a quote appt and they say they'll be there in between 6pm-8pm (all in the same evening). When I said it's a little late they tell me I'll lose the $1000 discount. I agree to the appt. I called back at 5:30 to cancel the appt & would reschedule. The customer service phone rep said ok I'll schedule you for tomorrow morning. I said no, I'll call at another time to reschedule. She proceeds to tell me she will schedule because she doesn't want me to lose my spot because the appts fill up quickl and I could cancel when they call in the morning. I said, what spot? I don't want to be on the schedule yet. And I'm cancelling now. So don't set up any appt. She continues to insist on setting up the next day appt. I said excuse me, I'll don't want an appt. She tells me that bogus reason to save my spot. I said, I don't understand, why are you still setting up an appt. She says in annoyed voice & insults me by asking, ma'am do you know what tentative means? I said, oh please don't treat me like I'm stupid! Do not set up an appointment for me period and I hang up. The next day the manager calls to apologize for my experience with the rep. I can set up that appt for the sales rep to come out to give you a quote. I said, yeah no thanks. I'm not going to work with you. I'll call the original company that installed the unit to have it properly checked. I should've done that in the 1st place. That was a week ago. Today, the original company came to check my 8 year old system and said everything looked good and was running fine. The capacitor will probably need to be replaced anytime between now and 2 years. ARS are a bunch of scammers! I'm letting everyone know to stay away from there Bait & Switch tactics. I'm going to report them to the BBB. read more
