A Action Review A Action is competent and punctual, but they tend to mislead about costs and overcharge compared to others in the area. We first used them for an issue with our AC because they are 5 minutes from our house. The tech was pretty straight-forward about diagnosing and repairing the broken motor. The only weird thing was the dude went around our house when we weren't looking putting their A Action stickers on several of our appliances, as if they were the ones that installed all of them. I had to go peel all of the ugly stickers off of things like our washing and drying machines and plumbing fixtures. The first experience was fine, so when the AC was on the fritz a year later we called them again for a repair. The tech comes out and says the motor capacitor is broken. He quotes us $500 to replace it with a "high-performance" capacitor. Then when the work is done, bills us for $900. "Well, the $500 was just for the parts. The final bill includes diagnosis and labor." For a 45-minute visit. I checked online after and we could have had the same generic part delivered to our house 3 days later from a local supplier for $55. I get that there is a premium for having the part on the truck to fix it right then and there, but a 1,000% markup for a stock part that I can replace myself is over the top. We called them again for an estimate on a new plumbing installation. We get told estimates are free. The tech shows up and looks over the work that needs done. Then he says we owe him $100 before he leaves. "I thought the estimate was free?" "It's for the diagnosis, not the estimate." Then they never even got back to us with a quote for the project. We'll look elsewhere from now on. We've worked with other licensed techs in this area for less money that are just as professional and responsive and don't change prices on you after the fact. read more

For a service provider, I think AAction does pretty well. I think this past year was difficult for everyone, and I was unable to have someone out for my Fall/winter check. My account expired in March and I think they could have extended it until my Spring/Summer check this week, as a good faith gesture. I've used A Action for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work and had three different experiences. They were recommended by the home inspection we used when purchasing our new home. Bottom line: I'd consider using them for electrical and possibly plumbing work again, after shopping around for other estimates. I found they are more expensive than other companies. I will not be using the HVAC services again. Electrical: A Action initially came out to fix a double wired panel in our electrical panel and consult about installing an electrical vehicle charger. Turns out the home's original electrical panel had been upgraded with tandem breakers, which the panel wasn't rated for. So we needed to get a new panel before moving ahead with installing an outlet in the garage capable of supporting the EV charger. A Action was more expensive than a second company who gave us an estimate for the same work, but we went with A Action because they would handle the permitting and inspection process with the local electricity provider. Our electrician also fixed some bad wiring in our basement ceiling while he was out, so that made me feel better about the price we paid. Plumbing: A Action performed a plumbing inspection of our new home and ended up coming back out a few weeks later for a sump pump problem. They were able to inspect the sump pump the same day I called, which was nice. The plumber recommended replacing the pump, and we scheduled a convenient time. I definitely overpaid for sump pump and installation, so I recommend getting other estimates before using their plumbing services. The plumber arrived a bit late for the installation, but the installation took less than a hour, so it worked out. However, the new pipe connector started leaking the next day. The plumber came back out to fix it, and it hasn't leaked since. HVAC: A Action performed an HVAC inspection and routine maintenance in early June. Since then, the unit indoors has been making louder noises when turning on and off than it did before. I called A Action about the noise twice and was told the HVAC technician would call me back, but he never has. In the middle of July, our AC went out on a Friday night. We called A Action the next morning but didn't hear back until Monday. We found another company who came out the same day and replaced a bad dual capacitor in the outdoor unit, which the technician admitted might not have been a problem at the time A Action performed the inspection. A Action is transparent with their pricing at least, so according to their price sheet, if they had been able to come out the same day and complete the repair, it would have been nearly $100 more than the company who ended up performing the service. read more

A Action has consistently exceeded my expectations. I have used them 3 times for both plumbing and electrical issues. Most recently was to fix an emergency water leak. They responded the same day, correctly diagnosed the problem, provided upfront pricing, and resolved the issue. Service is professional and congenial. I would highly recommend them. read more

We've had Aaction out to repair our heating AC system several times. They did excellent work. They are reasonably priced, fast and took time to educate us. We've also used them for electrical work, which was excellent. And for plumbing services. They do it all. We will absolutely use them again. One thing we like is that their truck is fully supplied with most whatever they need. So they don't have to go get what they need to come back later. I originally asked A Action to come out and add electrical outlets and a sub-panel in my garage so the space would be more usable, and to replace two crackling light switches in my home. Chris came over and gave my plan some feedback in order to make these new outlets far more useful to me in the future. The work was significant, but Chris was quick and patient as he provided explanations for the work he was doing as he was doing it. When it came time to replace the light switches, Chris found speaker wire had been used to wire them in. Speaker wire isn't rated to carry home current and amperage, so I asked him to replace the wiring and correct this issue as well as any other wiring problems found in this original-owner finished space. The standardized pricing they use worked to my advantage since this ended up taking all day, and entailed replacing half the wiring in my lower level on a separate visit from the garage work. Quotes from a couple of other electricians were significantly more for this work, so I would call that a great value. I have some electrical knowledge as required for my work, but I also know when it pays to call a licensed professional, and this situation was one of those times. I have since had them out to correct a shoddily installed bathroom vent fan duct that dates back to when my house was built, and they did a great job with that, too! read more

I called A Action Home Services to help with a gas leak in my home. They came out before to help with HVAC and seemed trustworthy and helpful. The technician they sent was incompetent, unfriendly, and put myself and my home in danger. The gas company shut off the gas to my house and put a lock on the meter outside. The technician had no idea how to detect the leak and insisted that the gas had to be on to do it. I told him he was supposed to use an air compressor and I got a blank stare. He then proceeded to cut off the lock and turn the gas back on without my permission and without the permission of the gas company, putting me in danger. As the icing on the cake, when the gas company came back out the leak wasn't even fixed! For some reason I was charged over $800 for a gas bubble test and tightening of some fittings. I ended up needing an entire line replaced and the work to do that cost less. When I pointed out how this doesn't make sense and demanded an itemized bill, it took several days and they sent a bill with just one item "test fittings throughout house with bubbles to diagnose source of gas leaks" and this simple task cost $806. Never mind that the gas company already did that and marked each leak with a red tag... They refused to discuss it and I still don't have an itemized bill to justify the costs. They grossly overcharged me and are being dishonest about fixing it. I should also mention that the technician they sent over was dumb enough to put his boss on speakerphone around the house so I had to listen to them describe me as an "opportunity to take advantage of" while I was in a very stressful and dangerous situation. Do not recommend this company for anything. read more

I was so nice to him And he was just rude from the moment he walked in. Didn't fix my clogged up sink pipe under the sink and charged me $100 to come out which I was told they weren't going to unless they fixed the problem. Liars liars keep away! AAction came out to fix my AC during one of the hottest weeks of the year. They were on time and thoroughly checked the outside unit. It needed a new capacitor. I do love having them as my HVAC guys... twice a year for check-ups and on-call when something odd happens! All their folks are really nice too! I just had AAction out to replace my entire heat pump in my condo. They sent three technicians to do the work. I used A Action Electrical. Lost an outlet and needed to understand why. Josh came out and he was excellent. Professional, knowledgeable, etc. He showed me what was wrong and discovered a couple of other issues (1975 house and some of these were code issues). Long story short: Pricing is interesting to say the least. I thought the $292 price covered the first price tier and the 4th tier that I was at - only at the end did I realize my error and or some tricky wording (you be the judge). Turns out my price was $46 for the drive out (good with that), $122 for the trouble shoot (Tier 1) and tightening up some items in my Fuse Box (ok got a lesson on what the wires were for and what was what (again Josh was great). Then we fixed the issue - which did require the work - but I was led up the tier level to level 4 where my price was the $292. I thought (should have asked more clearly I guess), that this was my out the door price for the work (this would have been reasonable) - turns out my price was $46 for the drive, $122 for the look at the box and the explanation, and then $292 for the rest of the work. This turned out to be a $460 dollar job. Seemed a little excessive to me on the charge. My thinking was that Tier 4 covered the tiers below it - you were stepping up in Service and getting the underlying services - no that is not how it works - its a summation: Tier 1 + Tier 4 + Drive Time. My advice - Josh was very good. I would use him in a minute. Check the pricing and ensure you understand it and ask the final price (did not know we were summing total as I have never seen it presented like this and this is not my first rodeo). So my lights are back on and I have seen the electrician and went to the cleaners as well. Lesson Learned: And it was my birthday to boot. Note: They used to go under the name of Galaxy Electric - here is a review under that name - sounds like a theme - if you know what I mean Terrible, started out with a reasonable quote, then after messing around for over an hour told me all my outlets and breakers were out of code, my building was going to burn to the ground and all the outlets and breakers needed to be replaced. Said it was going to be well over $1000.00 to fix. A far cry from my initial $250.00 quote. Very shady and the technician was so rude. I don't like being talked down either. I would not recommend Galaxy Electric in Fairfax to anyone. read more

This morning was the third or fourth time we have called A Action out to fix a problem with our old furnace, and they have been consistently great. My parents have also depended on them for several years and we highly recommend this company. Dana is the service person who usually comes, he clearly knows what he's doing and we have never been surprised with charges or pricing that wasn't made abundantly clear before any work was done. I especially appreciate Kenneth's willingness to come out today as this blizzard was starting, to check and fix our furnace. He did a great job, explained everything thoroughly, was friendly and personable, and didn't charge us for anything that wasn't immediately necessary. I called regarding an electrical problem in my home. I was told that for someone to come out and take a look it would cost 29.99. First misleading tactic, take a look means to verify and plan how to fix. For A Action they came out looked at it listened to me and said they would come back for 292 to go in and try to fix. I thought that's what would have happened on this visit. I wait awhile, trying to find someone else cause I am already getting a bad vibe. Could find anyone and called them again. Spoke with a guy who wasn't the most customer friendly who became irritated when I showed ___ to him saying we will come back out and go in for the 292 but if it requires more to fix then the price will change. There is the kicker and that's how they get you. He comes out and spends like 1.5 hours going up in attic, down to basement, taking my light fixtures down, etc. then when finished he's like alright that will be 292 and I'll have to come back and run a wire from the attic into ceiling and blah blah. The cost for that will be 900 bucks. My mouth is just hanging open in shock. I realize that these people have just ripped me off for 300 +29 bucks! We already knew there was a missing neutral I already paid 29.99 for him to come out now I have to pay 292 and now he wants to run a wire for 900? What was the 29.99 for a meet and greet? Why am I paying this 292 when the solution should have been determined on the first visit. Someone had already told me that my problem could be fixed in an hour. The length of time it took this electrician tells me he didn't know what he was doing or he was figuring out which price on their list of rip off pricing (unless you are an electrician none of the categories make sense) he was going to charge. I found another electrician he came in didn't charge me to look at my issue plus resolved the problem all in under an hour AND for 180 bucks! Please people A Action are not only rip offs but its a possible that their electricians are not qualified. read more

Following a roof replacement, our automatic attic vent fan stopped working. The roofing contractor couldn't find anything wrong with it, so I checked my files and found that Galaxy Electric (now A Action) had installed the fan in 2005. A Action promptly scheduled an electrician to come out to make an assessment, and he found the motor was burned out due to the fan's shielding screen being dented inward which prevented the blades from turning. He determined that it was obviously caused during the roof replacement. I then made arrangements with the roofer to replace the fan, but because they weren't licensed to perform electrical work, I went back to A Action to ask that they do the electrical hook up. A Action was very accommodating throughout this process, offering advice on the model of fan for the roofer to procure, and scheduling the hook up the morning after the new fan was installed. Chris, the electrician who hooked it up (who I also believe is a manager with the company) was on time, cheerful, and had the fan back up and running on a day when the temperatures were heading into the 90's. I felt like i was taken advantage of by this company and by Pepco. I called A Action on the night of December 30, 2013 due to a strong smell of something burning coming from our electrical panel. Someone came and have my electricity cut off due to a bad panel. I was told i need a new panel. Total cost: $4,579.00. If i don't replace the panel, I might have a fire. The fire dept was called and they took my meter off the wall. I have no option but to agree for the replacement panel. The cost of that night visit is another $581.00. I spent more than $5,000 for this call! The panel was installed the next day. The staff were very professional though. After the installation, i was told that they will call pepco to reinstall the meter. They called Pepco but they won't come until the panel work is inspected by their technician. No inspector will be available until January 2 because of the holiday. A Action service is now over, although they tried to help. Its now my problem to reconnect. We've been sleeping in the cold for 3 days now. After many, many many calls, Pepco technician came on the 2nd of January at 11:00 am. He said that everything is approved but can't put in the report until 3:00 pm because he is busy to write and sent the report. He told me to call pepco at 3:00 pm. I called the number he gave me at 3:00pm and guess what? Its a recording from the office of pepco design and engineering department which closes at 3:00 pm! The fuc..ng inspector should have known this and it still puzzle me why do Pepco employed people without conscience! Once again, me and my wife made many calls to Pepco to no avail. My wife is so angry by now, so i decided to take her to a hotel for the night. We finally got hold of this pepco department and got all the okey to reinstall the meter. I have to wait for any available truck to do this. They won't consider the fact that I've been without power for 4 days. And wait, they want $360.00 to do it as reinstallation fee (it took them 10 second to do this). It was another day before anyone arrive to reconnect my service. Sorry i have to include my bad experience with Pepco with this review. It just that they are no help at all in reconnecting my service after they did the installation and the fact that I paid them more than what i research to be the fair price for the service. After many years with the air maintenance service, the plumbing division sent someone to our home for a check up who 1. overcharged me for a pressure release valve that he claimed was leaking (it probably wasn't) because he also 2. set up a fake leak under my hot water heater and tried to get me to replace it. I know there was no water under the tank because I had looked in the utility closet an hour before his arrival. Lo and behold, he found water and a "leak" but guess what folks...it dried up and there was no water on the floor and STILL no leak two months later. I contacted the management to complain about both the overcharge and fake leak. Also asked to leave their club and get a refund for the second bi-annual check up. Two months and four phone calls later, I am still waiting for the refund check that was supposedly on its way. It didn't have to be this way. If they had apologized and told me this plumber would not be coming to my home again and offered to make things right, I might still be their customer. Something is very wrong over there. read more
