Staples had a good quality, but Blick's were very high quality AND cheaper than Staples. This was the first time that I shopped at this Blick as they recently moved into this former Joann store from their India Street location. While this store is a little more out-of-the-way, it is a wonderful size for Blick, and all on one level. Items are easy to find and nicely displayed, making the store a joy to browse in. If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. They also have some fun not-exactly-art things, but fewer books than I remember being at the India store. Lots of easy parking. Helpful service, too.

What I don't like is how sterile this new location is. I miss the homey down to earth feeling of the Little Italy location. I couldn't find the mount boards. I used to know where they were at the old location, and you could purchase single boards or a pack. After wandering around, I asked one of the workers. She was really great, and since they did not have 11x14, she suggested I purchase a larger board and they could cut it down. Went up and purchased the board, and the friendly worker call this other guy and explained what I needed. 5 minutes later, I had two boards, plus the extra that was cut off. There was some interesting things to look at while I was waiting. It doesn't look like the space is finished and I didn't know how long they've been here. But like I said, parking was so much easier which I really like!

The owner, whose name escapes me at the moment, was so pleasant and clearly skilled from the examples we saw around the store. My girlfriend and I travel to San Diego every year for my business Convention. It is the absolute…read morebest! We stay at the Hotel Del Coronado every time. There is just nothing like it. My girlfriend and I both have a love + passion for art and make it a priority to visit a few art galleries during our travels. It's something we enjoy doing together. After arriving to SD, we checked into the Del and went for a walk down Orange Ave. We were lucky to notice a charming art gallery right across the street. We had never seen it before. Walking up to the front door i read a sign saying that viewing is by appointment only. Since we love art so much i called an made an appointment for the next day at 12p. The following day we showed up 15 minutes early to see the door was open and someone was there. Sean (the owner) greeted us at the door with a smile and charm that matched the gallery. As we walked in we felt the presence of the collector. Pasionate, clean, intelligent, charming and elegant. The art displayed on the floor is just magnificent. The fung shui and layout of the gallery was fluid and easy to peruse. As we continued to look around we discovered a painting by LaDiva Ruan. It was of the Hotel Del Coronado where we were staying. The combinations of colors, techniques and skills were just flawless. I had always wanted to bring a piece of the Del back home with us. I wanted to buy it. Being a bit of an art connoisseur myself i knew how the game worked. Or at least i thought lol. After negotiating a bit we made a deal and I bought the piece. Everytime I see it in my home I think of Sean and his warming hospitality and his charming gallery near the Del. The memory is apart of the art. Sean is extremely knowledgeable about the history of art and definitely educated us on a few things. He told us a few funny stories about the artist and unique facts about the hotel. They consistently had great materials, beautiful sheets of paper, and amazing staff. Friendly service, clean and well organized store, and a real community staple. It was always nice to see consistent faces and I was treated with excellent service with every visit. I loved the manager and hope the company was able to retain her. She's extremely competent at her role and it would be a shame for it not to be recognized! Wishing the employees all the best.

I ordered at the counter a set of birthday balloons first wk of April. The MORNING of the party when I'm running to pick up cake, ice, etc. I called Michael's from my car & asked if balloons were ready. This was approx. 2 pm. The man on the phone said " we can't find it". Not sure what that means so I asked what I should do next? He gave the phone to a woman who said, "bring your reciept to prove you bought it." When I purchased the lady said, "you're all set, you don't need anything else, just show up and we'll have it ready for you". I have no idea where the receipt is 2 months later!! I had to drive home turn my home upside down & found it. Sped to Michaels where they had my ballons by the register. I walked up and said "hi, are those my ballons"? She said "yeah, here" AND WALKED AWAY. Because I'm the nicest person you'll ever meet rather than run out I wanted a reason for all this so I asked "do we know what went wrong" to which this lady who looked like the manager replied, "the lady who took your order was crazy, she doesn't work here anymore". What?!?! Super unprofessional. Manager didn't even look at my receipt or at least apologize. Horrible experience. I will NEVER buy my balloons from Michael's & will try & stear clear of any purchases in the future.
