We came in, hoping to sit outside, but we were told they were closing early tonight, so they had the outdoor seating closed off. It wasn't nearly as cold inside as I anticipated, so we were perfectly comfortable. We looked at the menu and it was nothing like it looked online! So the items we were thinking of having weren't all on the menu. Our server asked us if we wanted garlic bread, so we said sure even though we didn't know if they were free or being charged for them. We started off with the meatballs appetizer. They were a very nice size and came with two seasoned toasted bread. The meatballs had a very nice consistency, the sauce was really nice, and even the toasted bread was delicious. The garlic rolls he brought out were dry and flavorless...don't waste your time or appetite on them free or not. I can't say enough to tell you just how amazingly delicious the beggars purse were! The sauce is kind of sweet, but enough savory to balance it. The pasta feels fresh and the peas were cooked to perfection! It may not have been my first choice when there were so many other things I thought I was choosing from, but I'm extremely happy we ended up getting them! I've been coming here for years. I live down the street. I order a margarita pizza to go. I went to Publix to get a kombucha and returned to a fight in the parking lot. A fight. Like two men in each others face. I called 911. I got in between trying to stop the fight. A girl pulled my hair. They were apparently employees. I was assaulted. The police arrived and told me I was banned. I still had to pay after being assaulted. I did nothing but try to break up a fight. I've never been assaulted before. I love this place. I live within walking distance and have frequented for years. I discovered it through a business deal, my company supplies their table linen. Now I'm just a regular because it's great. The atmosphere is casual during happy hour and leans upscale in the evenings. I've visited for dinner with guests and in for a late afternoon rest at the bar. Both are top notch experiences. Inside seating is well spaced and intimate. The outside dining space is one of the best in the area. I've never had a dish I couldn't say is terrific. The chicken parm is my favorite. My favorite is a late afternoon rest at the bar with a glass of wine (if my Dr. isn't listening, 3 glassed) and a pizza. I don't feel like they're known for their pizza but it is great!! If there was zero stars, I would've given this restaurant zero. I never got to try the food because it was never delivered. I put in an order and it was supposed to be delivered at 7:15. When came and went. I called the restaurant. First they told me that the order had gone out 15 minutes ago and I am two minutes. When I told the person on the phone this she put me on hold and then she came back and she said oh she's sorry but they just arrived. This sounded pretty suspicious to me. I told her if the food arrives cold then I am going to have them bring it back. So she then put me on hold again and came back and she said oh we're very sorry you must've given your order to somebody else. Start we have been siting here for over 17 mins not a server or anyone has even come check on us. The place is not that busy for the lack of attention. We were looking for something new to try and decided to give the restaurant a shot. When my husband and I went in on a Sunday night, I was surprised that there wasn't many people there. It actually turned out to be kind of nice since we didn't have to deal with a busy and hungry crowd. The meatballs with ricotta cheese was a good start and the iceberg wedge salad was next on the menu. The salad was topped with Italian dressing with gorgonzola dolce along with walnuts, pears, balsamic reduction, and raspberry coulis. This is something I normally wouldn't get, but everything went well together and all the flavors balanced themselves nicely. When I had pear pasta for the first time ever, I always told myself to always get it if it's on the menu at a restaurant. I got the Beggar's Purse (what a excellent name!) and Chris got the Al Fresco pizza. The pasta was stuffed with cheeses and pears sitting on top of creamy sage sauce and truffle oil. I heart the dish! The pizza was good and had more evoo than anticipated on it. The service was great from start to finish. Our waiter came back continuously and made sure we had what we needed. If you go on a Sunday expect the bartender to spend more time drinking than paying attention to customers. I have been going there for over 10'years and tonight I was mortified by the service. We could not get a glass or wine, a box or even a check to leave. When I confronted him he said - if you don't like it- don't come back.. Took my family out to dinner at Art Basil. The music and ambience was amazing. We ordered the calamari, which was cooked to perfection. After that, it was downhill. I had to send my glass of Meomi Pinot noir back because it had obviously spoiled. The garlic bread was ridiculous. Tiny, dense, doughy balls of bread with hardly any garlic flavor. Tonight we had a family dinner at Art Basil. A couple of the appetizers we had were excellent, the Caprese salad and the Brussels sprouts. Both were fresh and tasty. I had the eggplant Parmesan as my entree. I have to say it was the worst I have ever had and I'm not that young. Literally it was a stack of thin dried up slices that did not even resemble or taste like eggplant with sauce and cheese on the top. Basically it was breaded nothing. This was so disappointing especially because they used to have the best. It was called eggplant Bella, no breading, flavorful and delicious. It even had capers which were a nice touch. The ambience is very nice, the atmosphere is lively and the bartender was very friendly, attentive and made us feel like a regular customer. Our waiter was lovely and competent but the food and drink was anything but. I was so disappointed with the dirty martini, by far the worst I have ever had. Totally sucks! Ordered dinner for a party if 4 on UberEats. The restaurant is about 3 miles south of my house. Super close. On the Uber app I watched the first two drivers go to the restaurant and then leave. Both called me and said they canceled my order because they closed at 9pm. It was currently 7:35pm. I called the restaurant and he woman who answered the phone said she hadn't seen an order come in from UberEats all night and it didn't matter because they closed at 9pm. I said, well it's 7:40pm now, and your website says on Friday night you close at 10pm. Then she hung up on me. UberEats would not let me cancel the order. Art Basil has a great staff and that might be its biggest asset. Other positives include reasonable prices, free and easy parking and a nice casual atmosphere which was enhanced by good live music. A Sicilian Pie was nicely charred but the upper section tasted just of bread and the sauce took it down to a disappointing level and I really didn't care for the pizza. A Chicken Franchise was good though and the chicken seemed to be fresher and of better quality than many places but would have benefitted if more sauce had been added - also the very generous portion came with pasta - which was just okay. I had a Stromboli and it was pretty good till I got the bill, I ordered a Stromboli with pepperoni mushrooms and onions, They charged six dollars for pepperoni four dollars for mushrooms and four dollars for onions on top of the $16 for the Stromboli, so I had a 30 dollar Stromboli.The Stromboli was pretty good but the price kind of ruined the whole night. The hostess was warm & friendly and our server Ashley was outstanding in every way. The owner came by to check on us and was very pleasant. This is a place of inconsistencies. We've been many times as it's close and has outdoor seating in the shopping center plaza. Years ago we dined inside which is still available and has a nice decor with a very long beautiful wooden bar. It's the food and service that's inconsistent. The other night we had a chicken wings appetizer with garlic and rosemary from the daily specials that was excellent. We ordered several other dishes that might be considered Italian but were not at all good: the bolognese and the eggplant rotini. We could smell the sauce as it was served and I think(though I've never had!) that jarred sauce would be better. The Caesar salad was bland. Not a bad place. They have good food and an elegant atmosphere. They are not my favorite though. I would recommend going to Basil when it is not to crowded. The service can be a little disorganized the more crowded it gets. Also I just think the atmosphere is better when it is not to busy. Basil is absolutely beautiful inside I will say that. I think they sometimes have live entertainment. I did enjoy the atmosphere greatly. The food isn't bad. Their Lambchops (see yummy pics) are good and the pizza is pretty tasty. They do offer a heck of a lot of pizza styles. But I have other places I like better. Last time I was here there were tiny Knats on our table and although they were very apologetic and did move us to another table, the owner never came over to us and we were surprised as we were told they were being informed about what happened. Also after moving us they forgot about us for awhile, making things a bit awkward. It was quite crowded so that maybe why. But that combined with the other things I mentioned, make this a three star experience for me though the food was tasty. I would try them again as they do offer quite a nice atmosphere. read more
