What a wonderful healthy option in the heart of Nyack! Delicious Mediterranean food and the menu is so large that it's hard to decide what to order, especially since everything looks amazing. The outdoor seating is wonderful in the spring and summer, and they even have an electric shade to cover the roof so it doesn't get too sunny and hot. While visiting a friend, she took me to Nyack and the Art Cafe. We were seated quickly on the patio at a table that was not in the middle of the crowd. It is dog friendly, so she was able to bring in her dog for a little break from sightseeing. They even brought water out for him. Our server was friendly and very busy. I ordered a cappuccino, which had a cute design in the foam. They have daily muffin specials. I tried the banana nut muffin, which was delicious. It was such an enjoyable break. Art Cafe has been around for 20 years, being trendy in a trendy town. My cousin chose this place to meet, and I obliged. First impression: It's a nice building, but the cafe feels squished inside. Multiple rooms, narrow walkways. Second impression: It's a place to relax - perhaps too much. The people next to us were there when we arrived and when we left. Service was fine until our food arrived, at which point it ground to a halt. We had to flag for water, for our check, to get the check processed - at least our table was cleared during one of those visits, so not all bad. Finally, are you here for coffee or food? I don't drink coffee, but here's my take on the food. There's no meat. We agreed to let it slide instead of walk elsewhere, just be warned. They do have egg and cheese dishes, in fact a lot of different cheeses I like (feta and goat on top of the list). The menu is a bit trendy as well, but the food is good quality and built up from whole ingredients, with everything tagged vegan or GF if applicable to assist the ordered. As shown in my photo, I got Picasso salad with a side of hummus, and my cousin got boreka (spinach - sort of like phyllo dough but not as thin) with a side salad (upgraded to Israeli salad, cucumber/tomato) and hummus as well. You do get good portions here. My salad was loaded with cheese, maybe slightly underdressed. Toast wedges thrown in for the salad helped address the side hummus, which otherwise is just an olive oil-y bowl. I would pass on the hummus, but otherwise good taste, good mix of ingredients overall. Waffled a bit on rating due to service dropoff and cramped quarters. I won't judge them for who they are, as they are built for a Nyack crowd. In the end, I'll give them 4 but I want a meatier vibe for me. read more

We finally made it to the top places to drink according to Yelp Elites hotspot! After seeing their latte art live in person, checking out their drink menu, tasting it for ourselves and enjoying delicious drinks, we can TOTALLY see why they made it to the top places! This cute, cozy, adorable and artsy cafe is everything and more. Its inspiration comes from cafes in Tel Aviv and incorporates a delicious mix of traditional Israeli recipes and creative dishes. We ordered the "American Breakfast" which is an awesome deal, it Includes coffee and juice (we ordered with tofu eggs) and ricotta pancakes. My ONLY thing to say is I do wish the pancakes were a bit more hydrated and fluffier. Everything else was incredibly delicious - especially their goat cheese malawach. OH MY GOODNESS. Picture this: Israeli dough presented in a fluffy and crispy outside with a soft inside. The PERFECT combo - especially with the goat cheese and onion sweetness. We got to try their newly released bleeding heart latte (totally not my kind of drink but my hubby loves things on the sweeter side - this was pretty sweet because of the white chocolate) and the lavender latte (we made ours dirty and added espresso). I left home early to work in New City because I wanted to try this cafe. I had the recommended Dirty Lavender Latte and the Morning Glory Muffin, which was delicious. The latte art was pretty and didn't scatter until I finished, which was nice. The exhibiting paintings were hung nicely, but they were hung behind people at the tables, so it was hard for me to see them up close and even harder to take pictures. read more

Love, love, LOVE this place! I love coming here with my pup (aka my designated vacuum cleaner). This place is very dog-friendly and fits right in with Nyack's dog-loving community. As soon as you're seated on the patio with your dog, the staff asks if they'd like some water, and brings it right out. I've probably tried about 70% of the food menu by now, and I've got to say, it's all solid! If I had to choose a must-get item, it would be the Mezze platter with some Apple Jasmine Booch Craft on the side (or some of their fantastic matcha). I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I've never seen an ugly latte here. ((Speaking for outdoors only)) The place is a bit small, considering how popular it is, but there's still ample room between you and the other patrons. I've never had an issue with sitting too close to others, though you do get the occasional secondhand juicy gossip lol. I really don't mind it! Went to Art Cafe in a Friday afternoon with a friend. I can't believe I've never been to this location before! As someone with Celiacs and a vegetarian, the staff was extremely accommodating. Came here on a Friday night as a middle point to meet friends from NJ and NY. It's located in a quaint part of town which was nice to walk and explore during our 15 minute wait to be seated. They have a text program to seat you if you have to wait, which was helpful. It's cute in here - very home and hipster like, it kind of reminds me of shops in Portland. We checked in at the hostess stand and when I said we were 3 people they put us at a very tiny table - I asked if we could sit at a bigger table but they said no. That in a little while those tables would be filled and they were reserved - the place did fill up but I don't know if they were reserved. I did not know to order the complimentary dish of home-made olives (make sure to ask though) - though I wish I had. The lemon slices and sprigs of mint in the carafes of ice water was a great touch. My husband ordered a large orange juice and the ricotta pancakes and served with berries and maple syrup (he didn't love them; I ordered the healthy breakfast - organic yogurt (Greek), seasonal berries and two scrambled eggs and wheat toast - this included a brewed coffee which was good. Our friend ordered the Picasso salad -full which was huge - Bulgarian feta, hard boiled egg, cherry tomato, onion and seed nut mix. I liked the ambience - very down to earth. Healthy. It's got creaky furniture, little nooks and crannies filled with sayings and cool little pictures all over. They even have an outside area for the little ones to play. Give it a chance. The parking can be a little bit difficult but don't give up you can eventually find something on the Street (I had to have the waitress fix the bill as she had charged me for my coffee even though it was included in my breakfast). Well, the ambience cannot be beat. We sat outside. It was a cloudy day, but quite mild unexpectedly, there were a few droplets and equally unexpectedly somebody came out and close the electric roof, mind blown. Such a gem of a restaurant tucked in Nyack. The patio dining at the entrance looked cute but I went on a bit chilly night so couldn't take advantage of it. Since it was busy and we didn't had a reservation we ended up sitting at the bar counter, but it wasn't bad at all. As per the crew recommendation I ordered Hummus Malawach. This was my first time trying this dish and absolutely loved it! It was so crispy, flaky and amazing hummus/egg/olive filling inside it. It comes along with a nice portion of salad. Other thing we ordered was Israeli couscous - the portion is quite large. We ended up taking half of it home - it's a delicious dish. This place has a great, cozy feel and a very Israeli-influenced menu. Good for pretty much any meal, including brunch, dunch, or linner. I had the kahlo bowl with avocado and the stuffed grape leaves. For the grape leaves, they were firmly wrapped, tasty, full-bodied, and room temperature, as they should be. The tahini dip they included with it is off the hook. It tastes a bit like spreadable halvah. Even after the grape leaves were done, I tore into the dip by itself. I know, bad form on my part, and I'm sure I embarrassed at least one person at the table. The kahlo bowl was very tasty and the avocado was a very nice addition. Service was very friendly and well paced. They work hard there. Sitting outside or inside is just as pleasant. Outside is also covered in case it rains. Remember to tip well.
