Tried the shawarma platter and it was delicious -- could maybe have used more seasoning but there is an "authentic" platter option that I didn't order. Wow! We arrived from Brooklyn grumpy and hungry. Horsefeathers was quoted about an hr wait and we had started this journey thinking that would be a cute restaurant to visit. We decided to walk a bit to see if there are any snacks around the corner and saw there were no lines for this place. There was definitely no spooky vibes or historic looks but wow did the food blow my head off. We sad sandwiches between two families with screaming toddlers and had given in to being miserable on tourism prices. We were so wrong. The food was so flavorful and on point. I was wrong, and sadly I had to order and pay for a second pita. I also decided to try the salad which came over dressed and was drowning in dressing. The woman running the restaurant was friendly and very hospitable. The vibe inside was chill. There was a steady flow of pick up orders and dine-in customers. My husband loved his Falafel Platter and the Roasted Eggplant side we ordered. Again, the Schnitzel was great and I was a fan of the grape leaves. I don't understand all these reviews about bad service. We had not one with two very attentive servers, getting the food out quickly, and checking on us often. The food was quite good, all of it. Everything was fresh and authentic. The pita bread was piping hot from the oven. The atmosphere was pleasant and the high ceilings made the place feel airy. The hummus was the real thing, the babaganoush very good, the felafel light and tasty, and the labneh fantastic. Even the dessert was delicious, with shredded phyllo, ricotta cheese, and date honey. Saw Pita House open when driving up/down Broadway the last few weeks. With plenty of good restaurants, adding a more casual spot is a welcome addition--especially since it's Mediterranean, which isn't as well represented. Pricing is much more moderate here as you can't pay restaurant prices every damned day. Ended up ordering delivery to see if this place lived up to similar NYC-based places I used to get from. One of the best barometers of a Mediterranean restaurant is their pita bread. Pita House, true to their name, makes theirs fresh, and it's superb. Ours were clearly fresh out of the oven and were pillowy soft. I got the chicken shwarma platter (comes with pita, rice, hummus and 'health salad') whereas my wife got the same with chicken schnitzel. Between the 2 the schnitzel was the clear winner; it was perfectly crisp and judiciously spiced. Chicken shwarma was good but I felt they were a bit too aggressive on the spicing and light on the meat. Health salad is basically an Israeli salad (finely diced zucchini, pepper, tomato, onion) which is light on the onion; it was pretty good. Hummus was well made although a little light on the spices. Rice was very good. All in all, the place measured up well. Definitely want to try the falafel next time. Very good place that's a welcome addition to the area. Bravo! read more

Our new favorite lunch spot in Tarrytown! We just so happened to walk by this place and am so glad we gave it a shot. The restaurant is narrow with only a handful of tables available, parties larger than 6 may be tough. The decor is very nice and simple. The servers are also always nice and helpful! The platters are always more than enough food. The perfect amount of meat/ falafel, rice, side, & hummus. They also give you warm pita bread with your platter. I love all of the platters - hope to try the other mains on the menu as we continue going. Also their babaganush is great, especially if you love a smokey eggplant flavor. So I am really really really wanting to go back in a month and give this restaurant 5 stars because the potential is there! I stopped in with a friend last night as we were seeing a show at the Tarrytown Music Hall and I heard about this fairly new restaurant I was excited to try. The food we had was a 5/5--I had the Eggplant Pita and it was so tasty with great spices, consistency and very tasty veggies. My friend had the falafel pita which he said was one of the best he may have ever had. Unfortunately they seem to be SUPER overwhelmed with the busy rush they had and were unable to handle all the orders coming in. I am thinking this is because they are still new and trying to work out their systems etc. There was one waitress trying to cover the entire place which was taking forever so we decided to get our food for takeout since we were in a rush to catch our show. They estimated about 15 minutes but we were waiting for well over a 1/2 hr and the food was still not ready and I saw lots of anxious customers waiting around and asking about the status of their order. I think they may need to get more help and learn how to expedite and distribute orders which I am sure will happen as time goes on. I am truly hoping to go back in the coming months and give a five star review. Please give the place a try however as the food looked wonderful and everyone eating in the restaurant was enjoying their meals. To me they may want to get rid of waiter/waitress service and have folks order at the counter and sit on their own--would seem to make more sense for a small place like this. read more

On the first night of our trip to Tarrytown, my boyfriend and I were looking to eat something quick and tasty before checking into our hotel. Originally we planned to go to Lefteris Gyro but after seeing the massive line of people waiting there for takeout, we came here, and put in a takeout order for the chicken schnitzel sandwich and the chicken shawarma platter. The staff seemed to be spread a little thin, between table service and preparing take out orders. It took them about 20 minutes to make our food, which was kind of annoying as we had to stand right in the center of the dining area in our wet raincoats, awkwardly in the way of waiters and getting dirty looks from people eating in. In spite of the weird setup and long wait time, the food was delicious. I always judge a Mediterranean/Israeli restaurant by the quality of their hummus, and theirs was light, velvety smooth, and filled with delicious lemony tahini flavor! Everything in the chicken shawarma platter went really well together- the classic cucumber tomato and onion salad was perfect, chicken very well seasoned, and the rice and tahini were a great buffer for the spicy aromatic green sauce they provided. My boyfriend devoured the chicken sandwich too. Altogether a very good and satisfying meal- I would just recommend ordering online or on the phone well before when you'd like to eat. read more

Food - taste is severely lacking. Poor seasoning. Hummus was good and portions are decent and that's pretty much it. Rest was tasteless. And please AVOID desserts. Worst middle eastern desserts EVER. And I am a huge fan of middle eastern desserts. Whatever they sold under the name "Kadaif " doesn't qualify to be called a dessert. It was nothing but shredded phyllo, sprinkled with some cream and sugar. It was a rip off. Also it was beyond sweet. We literally spit out the first spoonful we had and didn't touch the rest. Service - again lacking. When we told server about the inedible dessert, he just laughed??! No response beyond that. If a customer is refusing to eat a dessert that they paid 7.5$ for, then it's not something you respond by laughing. Not to mention he took away some of our main course food without even asking if we were done eating / want leftovers boxed up to take home. He just whisked half full plates away including the French fries that the kid was actively eating. A person eating at a table next to ours, found a piece of plastic (about an inch long) in her meal. So there is clearly no quality control whatsoever. Not returning here. The place doesn't deserve the 4.4 stars it currently has. Tarrytown has far better food scene. read more

It was such a nice day to eat outside today so we ordered from the pita house to go. They told us it would be ready in about 15 minutes. We got there in about 20 and it was ready to go. The inside was really nice! My bf and I split the falafel platter which came with rice, salad, and hummus. We also ordered fries, stuffed grape leaves, and an extra pita on the side. We honestly loved everything except the stuffed grape leaves. Those are always hit or miss for me but these weren't my favorite ones. The pita was so large and fluffy, the hummus was so flavorful and creamy, the rice was flavorful, the falafel was delicious (and no eggs so my bf could actually eat them!).
