Hummus, butternut squash (soup of the day) and pita croutons
    AJ R.

Pita House is worth the stop when you are in Tarrytown, NY. Overall 3.5 Ambiance is whimsical, fresh and clean - subtle elements of Turkey. I came hangry after fasting from a Dr's appointment and I was not disappointed. Service was ok - only 1 waiter & he seemed distracted with his phone. Butternut soup was flavorful & the hummus was excellent (and I've tried it all over the world). One strange thing were these overly hard pita chips served w/ the hummus. I wanted soft fresh pita with my hummus. When I asked for soft pita bread with, I was told this was the owners choice & I'd have to pay extra for it. The chicken shwarma was 2 out of 5 - it was overcooked when it was supposed to be moist. I was hungry so I let it go. The other 2 items I started with were so good - I figured I just picked the wrong item from the menu. I would give this restaurant another chance.

The overall experience was decent. The hummus was excellent and definitely the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the rice lacked flavor and was quite bland. Overall, I would rate this place 3 out of 5 stars. I hope they improve some of the dishes, as the restaurant has good potential.

Wow! We arrived from Brooklyn grumpy and hungry. Horsefeathers was quoted about an hr wait and we had started this journey thinking that would be a cute restaurant to visit. We decided to walk a bit to see if there are any snacks around the corner and saw there were no lines for this place. There was definitely no spooky vibes or historic looks but wow did the food blow my head off. We sad sandwiches between two families with screaming toddlers and had given in to being miserable on tourism prices. We were so wrong. The food was so flavorful and on point. The beef kabobs were juicy, the pita so soft, and the schnizle was crispy from beginning to end. PS- ask for the side of spicy sauce that I took a photo of. It has a pleasant burn but not spicy. It added a bit of acidity and extra fresh flavor to everything.

How have I not known about this place??? Great, reasonably priced option for delicious Mediterranean food with an energetic atmosphere and excellent service. We started with the hummus and pita and then had the shawarma sandwich and chicken kebab platter. Everything was excellent but the kebab platter was the standout and a must order for next time. Call ahead to reserve a table as it can get busy.

Hopped in here because we were exploring the area. The waitress was so warm and friendly, service was so attentive. I thought the shawarma was well-priced and high quality. Tried the shawarma platter and it was delicious -- could maybe have used more seasoning but there is an "authentic" platter option that I didn't order. Shawarma sandwich was fantastic as well, and their sweet ice tea was absolutely refreshing and had a very deep and floral sweet taste which was very unique. Absolutely loved the peaceful and calm vibes in here, the vintage decor too. I highly recommend and will be coming back!

I love the food here some everything is fresh. I decided to order the hummus plate thinking they would give you more than one pita to sop up all that hummus. I was wrong, and sadly I had to order and pay for a second pita. I also decided to try the salad which came over dressed and was drowning in dressing. Lesson learned- don't order the hummus , order the platter which comes with hummus and pita. If you order salad, ask for dressing on the side. Nonetheless the service was friendly.

    Schnitzel Platter

The Schnitzel Platter was SO good! That's what I ordered when my husband and I had dinner there last night before going to the Tarrytown Music Hall. The woman running the restaurant was friendly and very hospitable. The vibe inside was chill. There was a steady flow of pick up orders and dine-in customers. My husband loved his Falafel Platter and the Roasted Eggplant side we ordered. Again, the Schnitzel was great and I was a fan of the grape leaves. The pita bread that came to the table was so fluffy and perfect with our food. Highly recommend stopping here if you're looking for an easy, casual bite to eat before a performance at the Tarrytown Music Hall (which is just around the corner).

Sweet corner location on Broadway ( southbound side) there are steps up to the entrance. A fair amount of tables, primarily two top and four top, which could be pushed together for a larger group. I think that. As well, the manager/server who took my takeout order, was very, very pleasant and helpful. Given my allergies, he was able to make a couple of recommendations. The food was really lovely, especially the freshly warmed pita, which didn't taste anything like that cardboard stuff you buy in the supermarket. This pita at $1.50 per Well worth it. My options were very limited so I opted in for the tabouli salad, which did not have onion or garlic in it. It was very light on the tomatoes. Very light. That is my one criticism. Prices are what you would expect on the main street of a Trendy town. Good for a dash and go. But you will pay a premium. Would I recommend it? If you have no limitations for food, I would say yes. Just expect to pay a premium.

Absolutely delicious! Good sized portions and everything tasted fresh and well seasoned.

One had eaten and taken out from here before and liked it, so we called, didn't need a reservation, off we went. At about 5:15, give or take, we were the first patrons there. It's a lovely large space, warmly decorated with tables and some banquettes. We chose a 4-top kind of right in the center! Comfy chairs, btw. The menu isn't strictly Greek or Lebanese or Turkish, kind of a combo of good choices from those cuisines. We started with an appetizer called Tinos Artichoke. Very interesting, served with small warm fresh wedges of pita plus a cup of deliciously seasoned pita chips. It's a dip of mashed artichokes with Greek yogurt, sun dried tomatoes, parsley, garlic, feta. S tasty! It's a great portion to share among several people. My friends each ordered the chicken soup with vegetables for appetizers. Quite a nice sized bowl for the price; I love avgolemono, if that's what it was (I didn't taste it), just didn't feel like having soup. They both liked it very much and then they were pretty full! I ordered two appetizers for my meal - Symi Shrimp and Grilled Halloumi. Excellent choices, and they worked really well together as a meal! The 2 slabs of perfectly cooked halloumi are served on a bed of romaine lettuce and some threads of carrot. The shrimp are small, very lightly breaded and deliciously seasoned; menu says garlic, lemon, but they were reddish so I suspect maybe paprika as well or cayenne + paprika (not hot but not bland), shredded feta sprinkled liberally on top. I'm a big eater, but after the appetizer I wasn't able to finish my meal; today I reheated in the toaster oven for a lunch treat! One friend had just the Symi shrimp as her meal; the soup had filled her up and she also took some home. Our other friend had the chicken shish. This came as a really well-balanced plate, with plenty of cubes of chicken, rice, and veggies. We ALL had to-go bags! Appetizer portions, just based on the appetizers we were served, are ample for sharing. Didn't stay for dessert, as I had a train to catch back into the City. When I'm out in Bergen County again, I'll think about coming back. If you live in the area, GO, It's very good and not exorbitantly priced.

Tino's Artichoke is a tasty start - an artichoke dip with feta and sun-dried tomatoes served with pita chips. We'll usually get the mixed grill (but subbing lamb in for the beef, way more flavor). Or, a mix of grilled octopus, grilled calamari and a salad. Everything is very flavorful and goes great with the pita bread. Our calamari was a little chewy this last visit, which surprised me. It's never like that. Octopus is always tender and comes with tasty charred onions, peppers, caperberries. Other delicious dishes here - chicken shish, the steak, gyro, grilled shrimp, lamb shish. Lately they've been decorating tables with fresh flowers - nice touch and complements the candles.

Sad to say, after being loyal customers, this place turned us off tonight permanently. I placed a large anniversary dinner order by phone, including tahdig ($12). During the call, I specifically asked if the rice came with tomato and onion and was told no it comes with the tahdig that I ordered. So yes it comes with the order. I was also asked whether I wanted the gheymeh on top or on the side of the tahdig. I chose on the side. When I got home, the order didn't match what was discussed: The tahdig wasn't traditional rice tahdig like me or my wife have had countless times. It was more like this brownish, sheet-like, crumble with a few flecks of rice on the crumble, but not crispy. Not Persian tahdig. The gheymeh was missing entirely, despite being discussed on the call. The tomato and onion that I was told were included were not there. The fesenjan had only a few pieces of chicken. The ghormeh sabzi was okay, but pretty underwhelming in flavor. I called politely to clarify about the missing tahdig (for next time) and was told someone would call me back. No one did. When I called again an hour later, the same person who took my original order responded in a dismissive and accusatory tone, unilaterally escalating her tone and voice immediately, almost angrily accusing me of daring to call, and told me that the tahdig does not come with gheymeh, and tomato and onion aren't included either. (This is the opposite of what I was told when ordering). She repeatedly interrupted me, talking over me, instead of listening or trying to resolve the issue. We've been coming here since moving from Southern California a few years ago, whenever we felt homesick and wanted some Persian food. The food has always been....OK....nothing like Persian restaurants in Toronto or Southern California, but we continued ordering out of nostalgia and lack of other options. However, this experience today, incorrect information, missing items, no follow-up, and then, the way the situation was handled was our final turn off. Disappointing, especially for what was meant to be a special occasion. We won't be returning, nor will our visiting Persian family or friends.
