I would love to have given this place a chance but the service was absolutely disgusting as before we even got the chance to try it. As we were walking in, the waitress who was working outside and walking in front of us, let the door close directly in our faces. Then when we waked in and asked if we could just grab the table outside, she rolled her eyes and muttered "Jesus Christ". I'm so sorry doing your job is such an inconvenience to you. A lovely local "breakfast-style" diner - smaller menu, shorter hours, smaller restaurant overall - but a hidden gem in downtown New City overall. As others have noted, they just expanded to include dinner hours some days, but we showed up for lunch and were seated right away. Menu isn't super huge, so I settled in the Burger area and noticed right away the price discrepancies. Deluxe burgers (with fries) typically cost $2 more than regular (without). Except the pizza burger costs $3 more and the cheddar chili burger costs $1 more. Dear Little Diner: Fix that. Make the fries $2 and call it a day. Once I discovered my ladyfriend was ordering a dish that automatically came with fries even though she didn't want them, I decided I would just order a regular. Bacon & Bleu Cheeseburger, add avocado. I love those flavors, but here's another problem in the menu. It says: (1/2 Ib. Burger) Made from 100% Pure, Fresh Beef Served w/ Cole Slaw, Pickles, Lettuce & Tomato Deluxe Served w/ French Fries. Add Avocado 1.99 And then under the list of burgers: Burger Add-Ons Bacon, Avocado or Sautéed Mushrooms $2.99 Extra So which would it be? I asked and the waitress said $1.99, so I went for it. Turns out that, as I rather suspected, the avocado was billed at $2.99. Maybe - MAYBE - it's $1.99 if you order it with the fries, but why only the avocado? I brought this up and they agreed to cut the $1 off my bill since the menu indeed has this ambiguity. They were very nice about it, so just maybe that was put back into their tip. (: So, dear Little Diner: Also fix that. Just delete the little Avocado bit at the beginning. Ambiance: Nice breakfast place. Service: Very friendly and accommodating. Food: Worth coming back for. The only drawback is inconsistent menu pricing... so just ask if anything is unclear. I'll have to come back with a breakfast hankering next time and try that side of the menu. read more

Small diner with the usually diner foods that great for a quick meal with the kids before heading to Legoland. Our waitress was so pleasant, she even had a short conversation with us. When I sat on the chair I was super nervous whether it would hold my weight (big person thing), but it did. Pretty good Our first visit to The Little Diner was a pretty good one. It was not too little and it did not look much like a diner (no neon or chrome), but it served us well for lunch. We were not the easiest customers, ordering food at three different times, and still our patient server handled it well. We started with Mozzarella sticks while we looked through the rest of the menu. They arrived nice and hot and were fine. I followed that with their Reuben Sandwich. It arrived open-faced, interesting. The bread slices were large, resulting in a large sandwich when I put it together. While the sauerkraut and cheese were very noticeable, the corned beef was not. When I dug in and looked, there was not much corned beef, just a few thin slices. The sandwich also didn't have the thousand island dressing. The dressing was not listed on the menu, so it wasn't a mistake, just a variation to the more traditional sandwich. Don't get me wrong, it was still a very good sandwich, large with flavor. Our third food order was a hamburger kids meal, placed after our other food orders. Our kid liked it. It was a large burger, more adult sized but with basic toppings on the size. A really "little diner" in New City across from the court house. A very large menu with many choices. I opted for the Greek Salad with chicken and avocado. What a great choice. It was very good and large portions. I had to take half home. My lunch partner had the chicken wrap which was quite good too. The waitress was very attentive and funny. Stopped here for breakfast since it was really close by. They have plenty of parking and seating, considering they're located in a strip mall. I ordered bacon n cheese omelette w/ toast n potatoes. Their food was just ok. My omelette n potatoes tasted ok, but I've had better. My toast was under done; meaning barely warm, not toasted and loaded with butter. The nice waitress offered to redo my toast, but I declined politely. While the food was decent, the service was beyond horrible. This is the last time we will ever spend money at this restaurant. The staffs were full on racist toward our table. The entire time we were having breakfast, we received side glance, murmurs, and various explicit gestures letting us know we were not welcome. So...what did we do wrong? Were we loud, rude, etc? Nope, we were a small Asian family, that's all. We wanted to share two large plates among 3 people, but the server still brought out all 3 large plates. We then asked for a box, which the waitress came over and using only one hand to literally flicking the food from the plate into the box. How condescending can you possibly be to make your guests feel they should run away from your restaurant immediately??? While I appreciate the other reviews for food and services comments, the same service courtesy was not extended to our family. I'm used to going out to eat a lot. I'm from Jersey so I've eaten at many diners before. It's a small place, you seat yourself. Not very inviting, but I noticed people seem to know the waitresses and have conversations. As a newbie it didn't seem very friendly.
