Every experience has always been no less than 5 Stars!! I would give them 10 Stars if I could. Came here for Mother's Day. The 1 1/2 hour drive was absolutely worth it. No guessing, no worrying like you may have from a restaurant you've never been to. I've been coming here for a few years and every experience was above expectation. I feel like family when I step in the door. Joe is always extremely accommodating making sure my reservation is held even if I got stuck in traffic coming from Brooklyn. Memo and Omid also make sure all aspects of your service is perfect. Some of the best quality food you will eat. Some of the best service you will ever have. Very fair prices, no rush, no problems, great wine, beer, drink menus, great food selections and deserts. This restaurant is set in the heart of Piermont which is a quaint little town with interesting shops. It's set by the Hudson River and very close to the Tappan Zee Bridge. For starter we had the beet salad, coconut shrimp, and the crab cake. Of course they were all delicious. They served fresh baked bread hot out of the oven. For mains we had the Halibut Provençal served with Basmati rice and snow peas. We also had the Pan Sear King Salmon served soba Japanese noodles and asparagus. For desert we had the Bailey's Cheesecake, and the Motrin Dark Chocolate Cake. I cannot stress how great everything always is. It is with the drive to come here. I highly recommend them. read more

So I subtracted 3 stars for the following reasons: First because the ac barely worked. We sat and sweated our way through dinner. Second because one of our dishes didn't taste right and we sent it back but were charged for it anyways. Third was because the staff was dressed way too casual and unprofessional. Had a music venue close by and wanted Tom try this tiny French bistro. Is really cute and the owners and staff are great. Treat u very warm. Tables are tight but comfy'. We started with jumbo coconut shrimp. They were big but not much flavor. Dipping sauce was a weird mustard sauce. But shrimp were fresh and snappy. Also ordered tuna tartare with avocado . Table liked it. Was super fresh and cold with a nice vinaigrette. My buddy ordered lobster ravioli . He order . Double order cause one order was too small he loves the ravioli but it was with a soupy broth. I had a rigatoni ams shrimp dish. With crusted with a white cream Sauce. It was a tarragon cream sauce with panko toasted crumbs over pasta. It was dry and didn't have much taste. My wife has the stuffed chicken with crispy Brie With baby spinach salad warm bacon mushroom with onion balsamic Demi glacé My wife didn't like it. It was a weird combo and way too sweet. Freelance While a myriad of restaurants are located in picturesque Piermont, (a lovely Hudson River town) Freelance sets the bar high, so much so that we return again and again. Freelance serves consistently delicious food by a very attentive, hospitable, and warm staff. (Extra special kudos to the truly accommodating, affable, warm and attentive Joe and Omid who elevate the dining experience to something very special.) While Freelance is quite small, the consistently excellent food and service elevate Freelance to our favorite restaurant in all of Piermont and Nyack. Even though Freelance is tiny, the ambiance is uncluttered, pleasant and inviting. Daily specials are offered in addition to the already appealing menu. The appetizers (small plates) include tasty coconut shrimp, Caesar salad, wedge salad and butter lettuce salad. The salads are fresh and perfectly dressed with homemade dressings. (Last night we opted for the special beet salad with pistachios and feta cheese, YUMMY!) The coconut shrimp is tasty. We have also enjoyed the delicious composed entrees (large plates) including the NY strip steak with fries (outstanding), swordfish, shrimp pesto, salmon and crispy chicken with Brie over spinach. The entrees are perfectly cooked to order, accompanied by a fresh, seasonal, green vegetable (spinach, green beans or snow peas) and rice or potato. (Last night we opted for the filet mignon with shrimp special which was served with delicious frites and sautéed spinach...YUMMY again.) Each entree is so well executed, with attention to detail, and prepared exactly as requested. The homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream is the perfect end to an already wonderful meal and the deconstructed sundae with sorbet and ice cream is a culinary winner! My girlfriend and I stopped in here for dinner the other night and what an experience! The waiter and staff is very pleasant and made it such a nice evening. They gave us a complementary appetizer which had a coconut shrimp and lentil soup. They were both great. The braised short rib was amazing, so tender and delicious. The tarragon rigatoni was SO good! I was recently at the Freelance. I read or misread it was BYOB so I brought a bottle. When the bill came there was a $40 corkage fee added on. I was never informed of this by my waiter. I questioned it,the manager came over, I explained how I was misled by what I read on the Internet. He very rudely and adamantly refused to address my complaint and started to raise his voice. I've never been treated this way in a restaurant before. I left very little tip and he followed me out the door continuing to berate me. They are obviously not happy when you share a dinner and I was treated accordingly. I will never set foot there again. Don't go there if you're planning to share plates!​ read more

This was such a cute place for a girls night out. The staff was very friendly. My friend and I came for an 8pm reservation. I ordered the tarragon rigatoni and she ordered the brisket. I loved my meal. The flavor of the cream sauce was incredible and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I tasted my friends brisket, and wished it had more flavor because it was pretty bland but the presentation was good. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and creme brulee. We also had espresso martinis which was delicious. Overall I loved the atmosphere and the restaurant. Would definitely come here again. read more

We live in Piermont and were out for a stroll with another couple and our dog. We decided to stop at Freelance to have lunch and sat at one of the tables (complete with place setting, cutlery, glasses, etc. ). A server came over and told us they were not serving outside. When we asked why the tables were set up he reiterated that they were not serving outside. We left and as we were walking away he sarcastically chimed "have a nice day". We proceeded down the block to Vino Amore where the food and service were outstanding. On the way home, our neighbors walked past Freelance again and saw people seated at the outdoor tables. He asked the server why they were able to sit there and was told it was "only for special people". Word of advice to Freelance - save the sarcasm and bs for the summer visitors - come winter you will be dying to seat local residents. read more

The Thai pasta app with shrimp were also good.. liked the fresh basil and jumbo shrimp in it, pasta was Al dente and perfect. Nice available wine pairings as well. Butternut squash soup was tasty with nice touch of pumpkin seeds and a hint of basil. Also enjoyed the bread pudding dessert with a side of vanilla ice cream. I made a reservation based of off referral from a professional colleague. I called to get the reservation last week and asked what was the last seating. I was told 230p. We arrived at 235 and were not warmly welcomed. I was told they were closing the kitchen soon. The greeter was not very friendly Or concerned about my responded I was told this was my reservation time he did not seem to believe that so we proceeded to be rushed along. I got the Bronzino and shrimp special.which came out overcooked. When i told the greeter he barely acknowledged the issue. My guest had the duck which was very good and we shared the octopus app again delicious. My overall low rating is the poor costumer service. In for lunch today with a friend at about 1:00 and, surpisingly, got prime corner seating at the bar. Typically this is late for lunch and bar seating would be out of the question (although table seating is quite nice too). It does not get much better than this - the food is 5-star and so is the service. If you can't handle the "no reservation policy" you can always make a reservation next door at Xaviars. You just have to get dressed up for Xaviars. The bread is always fresh and warm with a prefect crust. Today's rolls were no exception. A glass of a nice crisp Provence Rose proved a good start for the weekend! I started with a white asparagus vichysoisse - a perfect summer soup done to perfection. For an entree I chose the Mussels Mouniere (in a light vermouth cream) and they were small, fresh and scrumptious! I dunked away with that terrific bread. My friend had the softshell crab, which he described as "amazing". Service was attentive and spot-on. I had mentioned to my friend that I "might" let him try the soup, and out it came with two spoons - even though we had not asked directly. I lovely evening along the Hudson at another fabulous restaurant in Piermont New York. This town never disappoints. I was surprised to see that the restaurant wasn't busier. A nice combination of smalle and larger plates of food which we split between us. We were more than satisfied and did not feel the need to have dessert or coffee however there would have been plenty of things to choose from on the menu. Since this place is SO TINY, I'll give it a tiny review :) - It's super small and they don't take reservations. - The decor is very 90's - very much in need of a makeover... BUT - The food is fantastic - on the same level as X2O, Xaviar's, and Restaurant X (obviously) but with a much more casual vibe. - Great service, attentive as always. Also, they get props for serving espresso correctly: with the lemon rind. I order espresso in most restaurants in lieu of dessert and it's very rare that they give you the lemon rind with it. I am shocked as I have been wanting to try Freelance for years. While I know ownership changed a while ago, I have heard and read great things. Had dinner here out on the sidewalk which was a great atmosphere in this wonderful town. Sadly it all went down hill from there. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is the blueberry cobbler was AMAZING! Without it...2 stars...bad night??? Maybe but so bummed.....The panko cod was lacking flavor and needed salt! The NY Strip must have gotten all the salt from the cod dish...The sauce was overly salted and the steak itself was inedible to the point we sent it back. Very dissapointed in the main dishes...salads and the onion soup were average, nothing special. But the highlight of the meal was the blueberry cobbler dessert...came out hot topped with vanilla ice cream. YUM! Perhaps we caught this place on an off night but I am sorry to say I would not go back. read more

Arrived on time for my 12 noon reservation on Saturday and the restaurant was closed with no sign. Called and got and answering service. Waited 15 mins before leaving to eat at another restaurant a block away. Called at 12:30 and it was opened. When I asked what happened the rude receptionist said they were opened now. No apology. Great little place. Very friendly wait staffs from start to finish, even came to say good bye after we step out onto the street. The meal was great! Hot freshly made bread. Shared the roasted beet salad, farm to table fresh. My husband have the Roasted Rack Of Lamb, medium rare was cooked to perfection. As a fan of chef Kelly and x20 restaurant, I finally got around to eating at freelance. Freelance is a super cute, small, and casual spot with funky art on the walls (probably done by local artists). I don't believe they take reservations. Went on a saturday night during a small snowstorm so the place was somewhat dead when we arrived, but it picked up throughout our meal. I had the trout with watercress sauce and root vegetables. My bf got the short ribs and I tasted it, they were quite delicious and similar to the short ribs at x20 (which were amazing!!). My trout, however, and I hate to say it, but it was extremely bland. The sauce had not flavor, the fish had no sear or crust, and I was pretty disappointed. The root veggies, however, were divine and I was impressed by the way they were cut into little cubes. They were truly yummy, I wished I had more. I also ordered the crispy brussels sprouts as a side and they were very delicious as well. I didn't say anything to the waiter about the fish, but I really don't recommend that dish unless I just had it on an off night. Desserts all sounded good but I opted for a chocolate martini and that was very good. Got a tiny pecan tart as a complimentary "thank-you-for-dining-with-us" and that was soooo good! I really loved that, it was like a tiny sliver of the best pecan pie you've ever had. All in all I enjoyed my experience at freelance because the service was on point and the decor is cute. This was my first visit to piermont and I fell in love with the town! Freelance Cafe was absolutely wonderful. It has an intimate atmosphere with an outstanding waitstaff who are very happy to make suggestions and answer questions about the menu. To start, you are served warm fresh bread. I barely resisted the temptation to have more than 1 piece when offered. The menu is filled with a variety of unique small and large plates and I had a hard time deciding but I went with the venison. It was perfectly cooked and paired with fried spatzle and Brussel sprouts. The chocolate dessert to follow was mouth watering and we were also offered a "pecan diamond" which was unexpected and delicious! Freelance Cafe continues to maintain the status of 'best place to eat in the NY, NJ area'...not including NYC as that would be hard to say with so many places in the city; I could never pick just one. My recent visit to Freelance just solidifies their creative genius in the kitchen. Starting out with a squash soup that was out of this world, followed but wild mushroom ravioli drizzled in truffle oil, a dash of cheese-my favorite to date. I had a steak salad which was good but the mushrooms were still on my mind. If you have not been to a Peter Kelly joint, I suggest trying one ASAP. I have been going here for 12+ years and absolutely love it. Never disappoints! I have to warn that the tables are close together and the place is small but I feel it just adds to the ambiance and makes it quaint. Being that it is small and always popular I have rarely found myself able to just walk in without having to wait but the location of downtown Piermont serves as a perfect interim hangout for a quick visit to an antique store, museum or stroll along the water. Now onto the food... I can always count on some staple items such as their amazing mules and frites which I have to nibble on at least one a year, but the menu does change to accommodate seasonal items and keep things fresh. Thus one can never get bored. Oh, and the presentations are so beautiful that I not only taste with my palate but my eyes. Makes the experience that much more divine. Now Freelance is also a wine bar so for those of you that enjoy a nice glass of whatever their selection is plentiful. They always offer a good pairing wine once you are set on your menu items or can whip up a fancy cocktail if that is the direction you are going. I was trying to think of a few really spectacular dishes to recommend but honestly as I said in the beginning I have never been disappointed in anything I have tried and therefore I suggest you try whatever speaks to you off the menu. My wife and I dined tonight with another couple looking forward to a great meal. After ordering a round of drinks, appetizers and our main courses we noticed different menus on the table adjacent to ours. When we asked the server what these different menus were and why we weren't offered them he responded that the menus were requested by the diners, who hadn't arrived yet, for restaurant week. In addition the table adjacent to ours on the other side was offered these special menus as well. The four of us were quite shocked and surprised that the restaurant was sneaky and not forthcoming in offering us these menus as well. Restaurant week isn't something a restaurant quietly hides but conversely offers patrons to promote existing and new business. It's not a matter of trying to save a few dollars but it just doesn't feel appropriate when an establishment treats diners differently and tries NOT to publicize something they obviously signed up for. Quite confusing to us. Why join restaurant week and then try and hide the fact that you have a special menu for something you obviously want to promote? Never going back there and will let my friends know about this deviousness at this establishment. read more

This was always our favorite restaurant without question, and good as anything in the City and, except for the d----- bridge, worth every penny. Then the management changed, and then Covid hit. We went back once after that, and the staff was wonderful as usual, but my beloved wasabi crusted tuna was terrible, the sorbet tule for dessert was makeshift and the onion soup had no onions. This was lunch on a weekday and these items were always, in the past, exceptional. My husband's meal was also just so so, a far cry from the old Peter Kelly (LONG GONE) days. Again, this was not the staffs fault....they remained wonderful and welcoming, especially the bartender.
