Not only that, but he took the picture I had and brought it to life with expertise and grace, turning it into a tattoo i am already thrilled to show off to anyone who will look... and this comes from someone with over a hundred hours of work in total. I am a recording artist and a director who is in town for the week contacted me to shoot a music video. I asked Joe for permission to shoot during my session. I asked several times for confirmation and he said it would not be a problem. I told the director and we made our plans. I arrived at the shop with a friend who wanted a piercing done. The director came shortly after. Everything was going fine until we started laying the stencil. I'm sure everyone here understands the value of placement. It can take a couple times. On the third attempt, I was told that "we only get a couple tries with this." I have about 8 other pieces from various tattoo artists, no one has ever acted like that. A tattoo is for life; you do it til you get it right. Then, when I realized part of the tattoo was actually missing, his attitude became even more curt and dismissive. I had given him the picture I wanted with instructions days before; the work should have been ready. He began complaining about the director's equipment and after a few minutes called the whole filming off. Unwilling to be tattooed by someone acting in such a manner, I called the whole appointment off. Joe wasted three people's time, include a professional contact, and then proceeded to text me after and say to never come back. The worst part of this, is that what I thought was going to be my new favorite tattoo shop, is now a spot with a bad vibe. And I drive by it on the reg. There are better tattoo shops in a snake pit. Came here for my first tattoo via recommendation from a friend. Explained to the artist what I wanted and he was pretty easygoing as far as helping me pick out a font. Didn't seem very creatively open (first thing I asked was if we could do the font smaller and he said the letters would bleed together, okay that's fine.) but explained his reasoning for font size and I was cool with it. I originally wanted two lines and he and my friend both explained that moving my arm around would make the tattoo look weird, plus, I liked the one line WAY better anyway so we went with it. He goes to put the stencil on and then after nothing transferred to my arm, he says, "I used the wrong paper...," and then re-did the stencil. In which one of the words didn't make it from the stencil so he hand wrote it in and I thought, "he knows what he's doing, he'll write it in the proper font," Wrong. Overall I was happy with how the tattoo came out. That being said, it doesn't match the stencil font at ALL. It looked like someone wrote the quote on my arm with a pen. However, at the end of the day, I did like the way the font looked, but it doesn't look REMOTELY like the original stencil. Didn't give me any paper with aftercare instructions but luckily my friend was able to give me tips and what not. No bandage or ointment was applied afterward to protect it, nothing. Cut to two days later when scabbing has already started to happen and I showed my tattoo artist friend the work to which he gasped and CRINGED and told me the tattoo was gonna come off. Luckily he offered to fix it for me once it's fully healed, but he's not pleased with the way the tattoo came out and feels bad that I spent the money I did on it. The scabbing has almost already come off, the tattoo itself it inconsistent and faded (there was an issue with the ink not staying in my skin and it is very clear where the ink didn't stay, there is some scarring (as my friend pointed out) and it just looks very low quality. The attention to detail severely disappointed me, as well as my artist's general unprofessional attitude and lack of more thorough aftercare instructions. Will not be coming to this shop for tattoos in the future. I know for future reference I could've maybe asked him to redo the stencil, but that was my fault. UPDATE 7 DAYS LATER: My tattoo is faded, letters have pretty much bled into each other and most of the tattoo itself is just ... terrible, even more terrible than when I first got it. This is also THE WORST healing experience I've ever dealt with, with my 30+ tattoos in various hard to heal places, this one wasn't even on my worry radar when it came to healing but it's proving me wrong. My friends tattoo which was a script down her arm has healed well, much better than mine, however 75% if hers looks like it's been there for 20 years, letters faded/practically peeling off with the scabbing. I have two tattoos from apprentices that are better than this one I got from an "experienced" artist. Art District has been my go-to shop for tattoos for over ten years, back in the day when it was Lankershim Tattoo, I'd gotten pretty fun pieces that I'd always walked out happy with so when one of my best friends said to me she was finally ready for her first tattoo, I knew where we'd be going. I decided to go in ahead of time, get my tattoo and discuss hers/make an appt/etc so the following day she'd be good to go. I went into the shop and presented my idea to an artist id never gotten work from before but flipping through his book and given mine was a pretty straight forward tattoo and a small, easy accessory in it, I figured all would be fine. Boy was I wrong. This specific tattoo was extremely important to me, I'd waiting five years going back and forth about proper timing and having the money, I made that clear to the artist (or thought I did) through conversation while he worked out the stencil. We talked price and while I felt it was a little steep, I understood and from the stencil it looked exactly like what I'd explained I wanted. He placed the stencil on and I believe the shop owner said "looks good", NOTE: I WAS NOT SHOWN THE PLACEMENT OF THE STENCIL. Strike 1. Cut to after the tattoos been 3/4 done and I'd have to come back the following day to finish (and I'd eventually find out, FIX IT), as well as when I went back about 12 hours later: I made it clear, multiple times, that I wanted the wording UNDER the accessory, the artist put it above. Also, the wording is crooked, not at all matching the font originally in the stencil or shown to him prior to him even creating the stencil (there's not much to it but the detailing of the way it's written IS important), there's random streaks of ink off a few of the letters like when your pencil slips across a piece of paper, the letters as a whole are just terrible. The accessory? Yeah it's an easy, straightforward piece, but there were specifics about it that I really wanted otherwise it's just wording and an accessory not an homage to a show and tribute to a friend and artist, those details weren't there, even after going back the following day, the artists attitude was just terrible, cold and quiet like I was annoying him with my presence coming back to get him to finish his work. Moving to my friend. As a tattoo virgin she's even more ocd about things that those of us with several tattoos under our belts have already experienced and know the deal and healing etc process. No matter how much I prepped my friend, she still had questions for the artist, was picky about script for her quote tattoo (as you should be with quotes), I will say, she likes her tattoo, but I'll also say, there are several parts that look very obviously hand drawn in/not as the original stencil was. My friend also felt the artist was unprofessional in his choice of conversation/lack of conversation and more of just silly inappropriate banter but, she's not one who really enjoys that type of conversation and said to me afterwards that she's glad I was there for her to chat with. She also felt it was unprofessional not to have handed her any kind of aftercare guide and asked me "what do tattoo virgins do if they go into that place alone?" Good question. Id like to make it clear, I'm not a prude, I'm not uptight, I always tip and respect artists, AS an artist myself, I know how important tips are but also, I know how important a happy client and quality work is, and to be tasked with creating a fun experience for a best friends first tattoo is hard enough let alone when it crashes and burns, that beingI'm so beyond disappointed with my tattoo, this was supposed to be a really rad tribute to two of my favorite things, and it was literally like I tossed close to $200 down the drain for something that looks like the cheaper option I almost (and now knowing, SHOULD HAVE) gone with. Will not be coming back, such a bummer as it was very convenient to my home and work but, I refuse to flush money down the toilet on tattoos that just don't meet expectations. read more

I was searching for a new spot to get Friday the 13th tattoos at for myself and a group of friends. The old spot we would go to became old since they never change their flash. I talked with Isaac and loved that I could being in my own pre approved design. However the experience itself left much to be desired. It took over an hour to get the simple tattoo done. Worse then that the saturation of the tattoo is hands down the worst. It looks like a poorly done watercolor. Regret comes to mind when I look at it, lucky for me I have an artist who can fix what was done and bring new life to what should have been an awesome tattoo. read more

Maybe I'm getting old...but I still expect professionalism and honesty out of businesses, including tattoo shops. Can't say I received that here. I came by because the stud on the end of my nipple ring came out and I had been walking around with a large band aid on it for over 16 hours. #worklife This tattoo shop was the only one still open, with a piercer on duty, that was relatively close to home. My intent was to buy a ring, have the piercer install it, and be on my way. Joseph was quick to sell me two rings (because he didn't have change after having been open ALL day *eyeroll*) without even checking out my old one to see what size it was. Then he tried to talk me into installing it myself because he was drawing up a tattoo for someone else. I waited ten or so minutes while he finished the drawing and he finally did the job. I was in a chair in the middle of the shop with no modesty curtains. Whatever. My old ring, which had real gemstones, hit the floor in the process. Joseph got up and headed back over to the other client before I could adjust myself and get out of the chair. I looked for the old ring and couldn't find it. Maybe he swiped it...I don't know. He sure didn't offer to help me look. Lastly, the other client paid him upfront with numerous $5-bills. No offer was made to make change for me since I only wanted the one ring to begin with. They had a flash set of tats but also did any small design we wanted.Issac did one of mine and Lisa the other. This is the worst Tattoo Parlor I have been too. I went in this place to get a nose piercing. After the Tattoo artist Joseph pierced my nose he charged me $40. At the time he stated, "if you have any problems with the piercing come back in and I will it". The very next day the piercing was stuck in my nose. I went back in and spoke with the Tattoo artist Joseph again. He refused to fix the piercing without me paying him more money. An tried to tell me he never said he would fix it. The tattoo artist are amazing, I was helped by Isaac, he calmed me down and talked a lot to me while getting my tat, I was super nervous and he made me at ease. I went here after my piercer down the street said I just needed a bigger flat back for my Monroe, i called this place and they told me to come in that they had the jewelry. I get there, I show him my jewelry and how i think it's sinking a little in my lip. He said it looked fine. I asked if he had jewelry with a bigger flat back. He searched and searched and pulled out a longer bar, I said that's not what I need. I need a bigger flat back, he told me those don't exist. I KNOW THEY DO. then he tried to sell me jewelry with a bigger bar, I said no thank you. The bigger bar is going to catch more and make it worse. Then he told me not to use salt water, and to use mouth wash. I know piercings, and i know for a fact salt water is the best. I was about to walk out, THEN he tried to scare me by saying maybe my jewelry wasn't real, and all the sudden he told me it looked fake and he's never seen jewelry like that before, and I needed to change it. Newbie here! I got my very first tattoo at this shop about 2 weeks ago and had a great experience. The tattoo artists are very friendly and willing to work with you on whatever ideas you might have. I had a mental health inspired idea in mind (the words Feel, Deal, Heal) and loved the way the piece came together. I really didn't want to leave another (edited) review but I really have no choice. Three of us came in for a tattoo in July and had the unfortunate luck to have an (now ex) particular employee work on us. This guy took 6+ hours for no reason. I spoke with the owner after I wrote my first (very negative) review and we had a "gentleman's handshake" over a few things. However it has been over a month and a week or two and he still hasn't honored what he said he will do. Now I am not saying the owner doesn't know what he is doing (ink work related), this all boils down to what we experienced and his promise to me to fix it. I understand running a business isn't easy, but don't leave your customers (especially our group of friends who've been coming to him for the past two years) high and dry. My sister and I had a matching tattoo on our left index finger....it is nearly rubbed off (after the second week). My other friend had a script running down his ribcage and the ink has been fading away (a month later!). I also have a crooked numeral number That was inked on on my wrist. My sisters script on her ribcage is decent (since she grilled the tattoo guy for taking so long and demanded our money back...which we found out he wasn't even allowed to have us pay up front). Just an unpleasant experience from the beginning to me waiting impatiently for the owner to come through what we agreed on. I contacted him to drop it as a review was more content for me to live with. And no I will not be taking down this review nor editing it. read more

My fiance and I went in for piercings, we called around 9pm and walked in around 10pm. Our piercings were done by Johnny, who was awesome! My fiance got the middle of his lip repierced and I got my tongue pierced. The piercings were pretty quick! I noticed a clean shop, tools, and everything he used on me he took out of sterilized packages. Yes, mine hurt because it's a piercing, duh. Only thing that bugged me was with my other piercings, I got an after-care sheet or something telling me how to clean it. He didn't mention anything until I asked.He told me rinse with Listerine. Now I've read on multiple sites to actually dilute the listerine. My Fiance also didn't get a sheet nor did he tell him how to clean it. But that's about it. If you decide to get a piercing here just make sure to ask him the after care or google it :) read more

So I came here because a friend recommended it , I just wanted my astrology sign, it came out to about the size of a dime. Yet when asking the dude how much , since he gave it to my friend for $40 he said $80 and kept my $90 because I only had a $50 and two $20. Lol pathetic my sign is literally two lines on side to side and two lines on top and bottom. What a rip off.
