I went in for a Septum piercing and was so terrified that I went in the day before just to ask questions and look at the jewelry. Marv, one of the piercers, was there and not only was he incredibly reassuring, but he was also hilarious. I got no sleep the night before because I was so scared it was gonna be so painful. But, he, again, reassured me by letting me know that this is the piercing that put him on the map. So when it finally came time, he did it so fast that all I felt was a slight pinch. Do not come here. They won't pierce where you both have already agreed. Customer service is AWFUL. I got my ear pierced last night and came back this morning. I asked for a full refund (because it was too low and lateral) and they told me no. I even brought the jewelry back and they wouldn't accept it (understandable) but I was just trying to show that I didn't want it. I just wanted my money back for the poor service. I asked for a refund for just the piercing fee and they told me no. Their only solution was to have another piercer redo my piercing. In my CARTILAGE. I said I don't want that much trauma in my cartilage. They said I could come back later and get it re-pierced. I then asked for store credit for my partner to get a tattoo. And they said NO. (What's the difference??????) I would give their customer service ZERO STARS. I cried the whole time I'm talked to them because it's already hard enough for me to stand up for myself. Their service is awful. They have no solution strategies. Horrible business. I left this place in tears twice. Now I'm out 288 dollars because they charge for the front of the earring SEPARATELY from the back. Who charges for half an earring???? OH and it just so happened that *only* earring they had in the shape of a ball (safest to heal in the concave area of my ear) was solid gold. Convenient. read more

Tattoo artist review only. Christina Hock tattooed me 3 different times. She's a good tracer... but she goes WAY too deep!!! This isn't something that can be expressed immediately because obviously you need a little time to see the tattoo set. I got all 3 tattoos within the same year & they are ALL blown out now. You can't even make out what they're supposed to be and there is literally no detail left at all. Just really fat, thick, blown out lines. It's a horrible thing to discover outside of a reasonable time to complain, but for all of you potential customers, I would steer clear. All 3 tattoos are unidentifiable at this point & I have 4 other from a different artist from years before hers that still look bold and clear. Just a warning... i'm sure most people just chalk it up as a loss by the time they see their ink spreading but for me to have gone through it three times and now be stuck with three horrible tattoos I think it's worth mentioning. Also! Never... ever let an artist working on you without a price set ahead of time. I made this mistake of letting on of their artists work on me without a set price who turned a 6 hour $1000 tattoo into a grueling $3400 18hours using a ridiculously time consuming method of solid black fill while getting stoned every session. I had two session with Chris for a Zeus piece recently and wasn't very happy with they way it was turning out. I wasn't getting what I was hoping for and envisioning. We had two sessions and I wasn't pleased with what we had. The second session we only tattooed for 3 hours max! It felt rushed. I don't think that's fair for me as a customer, especially after spending my time and my money there. Coming for a 3rd session and possibly coming back for a 4th wasn't an option for me. I had to go somewhere else to finish the tattoo and I am very pleased with the end result. I've been tattooed at the Dolorosa before by Chris and Tony. Although parking is hectic, it works out well so listen to the shop and take their advice! We got street parking close by so it worked out. Atrina LIZZ is amazing! Super calming and chill to talk to. Had her stuff ready and we finished within an hour. The line work took longest and felt that sharp scalpel like pain but the killing in wasn't painful at all. I love this tattoo shop. I have always wanted to get tattooed here and finally went in December and then again a couple of days ago. The shop is clean and has really lovely people working there. Staff is super nice and they get back to you in a timely manner. My artist was Atrina at the Studio City location and I had been following her on Instagram before I got tattooed by her and she is super sweet and patient. It's been hard to find artists that make the process seamless and she definitely does that. Ive now gotten 4 tattoos by her and I will forever recommend her! I am so disappointed about my situation with this shop. I've had a total of 4 tattoos done here and it looks like my 4th will be my last. I had an appointment with Luis on May 4th for the initial session. He ended up being 2 hours late to the appointment. Okay. Not great but things happen. He finishes the tattoo very quickly and almost rushed. It initially looked great! (I'll attach pictures). However, within a few days, the tattoo began to fade. And I don't mean healing fade. Like fade fade. I figure I'll give it two months to let it fully heal to see if maybe it'll somehow even out. I had to visit family and finally got around to making an appointment for this week. I even used the same email thread I used to make the appointment so they would have a reference for who I am. I show up to the Studio City location today for my 5 pm touch up with Luis only to be told that he's at the Echo Park location......... The girls at the shop call him and he tells them that he's "willing to stick around" if I want to drive to Echo Park during rush hour traffic. As you can see in the emails, at no point was I informed I'd need to go to the other location. I even waited 3 hours after the mixup to see if someone from the shop would email and apologize and offer a new appointment but...crickets. This whole situation has been an absolute mess. The quality of the tattoo is bad, the communication was bad....just all around bad. I am truly so disappointed because every other tattoo I've gotten here has been great! But those were 3 years ago so maybe things have changed. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to find a different artist at another shop and spend more money just to touch this up. *UPDATE!* So the shop reached out to me with a very kind email and offered that Chris, the owner, touch up the piece free of charge. Chris was super cool and I was able to see him days later. It was very kind of them to do it and I appreciate it! My girl looks great now! read more

I came here Dec.21 for a tattoo and I absolutely loved the experience! My artist Jackie came from a different studio to do a guest spot here in order to do my tattoo. I had a medical event last year that currently puts me in a wheelchair while I'm recovering and I am so grateful that The Dolorosa worked with us so I could get my piece done. I had called the week before to ask a few questions (mainly making sure my chair could fit in) and I believe I spoke with the piercer (I forgot to ask his name) but he was incredibly kind and reassured me that if I needed help with anything the staff there would support me, which really helped ease my anxiety. The vibe of the studio is really cool! Had awesome music playing and the staff were all super friendly, and seeing how everyone got along with each other it kind of felt like I was hanging out with a group of friends. My experience with Jackie was awesome, and knowing if I ever want another piece from her that I am able to come back to the Dolorosa makes me excited for next time. I've been wanting to start my Marvel sleeve for years. I've thought about every detail over and over. Everything from the style of character (comic vs current mcu movie), to the layout & colors, to the quotes, to the pros and cons of having a fight scene, the specific characters, and how many POWs (if any) there would be. Going into the selection process for the type of artist I wanted was really hard. I considered many different ones. Some are good friends, some were recommendations, someone from the shop, and others were people I follow on IG. I wanted someone with a nerdy background (gaming, comics, anime, etc.) but also had their own style and personality. When I was recommended Kat's work by the Dolorosa team (I can't remember who recommended it over the phone but I love you for it), I instantly knew I wanted to talk to her about doing my marvel sleeve. From the time we had our first consultation to the first time we met in the shop, Kat was extremely profession, nice, funny, patient, and informative. She put so much time, effort, and passion into this piece and really made it her own. She took a crazy all over the place idea and transformed it into something that transcended my expectations. Kat is an extremely gifted artists and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be tattooed by her. I couldn't have asked for a better artist. I'm the lucky one. I also want to share some love for Amy! Amy was behind the scenes answering emails, setting up schedules, answer questions, and so much more. She did all of this while maintaining the shop, giving guests piercings, and of course striking up great conversations! The shop was spotless, the music was great, and the entire place was packed! I loved it. Lastly, I just want to thank the entire team for being so welcoming and making me feel like I belonged there. For starters I called in at 11:30am (not realizing they were closed) and amazing person named Ame picked up the phone and was so kind and asked what I was looking to do. I was looking to do a half sleeve same day which is such a long shot but It was worth a try! She told me they weren't open yet but as soon as a tattoo artist comes in she would pass my info along. I had an old piercing that was not pierced correctly when it was done over 20 years ago (at a different shop obvs) and had grown over and been left alone for going on five years now. I don't know how they did it, but Zander managed to reopen the hole without repiercing it, using a tool called a taper. They were so, so gentle and checked in with me constantly to make sure there was no pain. I was shocked when there's wasn't a single drop of blood in the whole process. I just wanted a very simple cursive "L" tattooed on my ring finger. I don't wear jewelry, wedding rings included. I've been married to my wife for almost 37 years and counting.
