Dave saved the day for us with a same day service when our 2019 XC90 needed service while up visiting my daughter in Tacoma. We live in Portland, and my partner was up in Tacoma for the day when the car started making funny noises. I called him in the afternoon, from Portland, he was able to make an initial diagnois over the phone, order the parts and get us in and out before 4pm. Hi Folks, I rarely comment on reviews, but while looking up Art Works' phone number, I came across L.H.'s comments and felt compelled to respond. For context, I have been taking my vehicles to Art Works for approximately 8-10 years for services ranging from oil changes and sensor replacements to a complete engine swap. I have worked with their entire crew, especially Dave, and can speak to the quality of their work. The comments made by L.H. are wholly and entirely false. They sound personal in nature rather than based on actual service experience. I believe it would be highly regrettable for anyone to avoid taking their Volvos here based on these remarks. Dave is straightforward--he will not BS you. He provides excellent communication, quality workmanship, and integrity in every job performed. He is exceptionally honest, and you will not get ripped off. In fact, it's quite the opposite. He has consistently gone above and beyond to help me, always presenting cost-saving alternatives along with their potential drawbacks. Simply put Dave is a trust worthy and professional individual who thankfully for me works on Volvos. Originally brought my 99' S70 in for a rear break replacement and to get an overall inspection. Aside from getting my vehicle repaired and inspected in an extremely timely manner, Dave also took the time to test drive it and made sure it felt like it was running correctly. Additionally, my front window was constantly fogging up and Dave discovered a small leak where coolant was coming out. I foolishly decided to not have it fixed and now the tiny whole has flooded my floors and my vehicle will not hold coolant. So in a fit of panic I called Dave and he had me bring my vehicle in the very next day (4/18) and within an hour he reconfirmed what he already knew and quoted me the same price as before all with in an hour of having my vehicle. Standard service according to Dave, was very pleased with exceptional service. In addition, was pleased Art Works Volvo also replaced the engine cooling system expansion tank which is under pressure during operation and, had many hairline cracks. Up front and honest which I definitely feel this world needs more of. These guys have seen it all when it comes to Volvos. I called to see how much a timing belt replacement would be at 112k miles (120k is the recommended). They asked why exactly I thought I needed the belt replaced (a high pitched "singing" noise) and after I told them, they suggested that it may be something else that commonly happens to my model and year (06 S40) and that they'd take a look. They were absolutely correct! My car no longer "sings" to me, my timing belt looked good, and they saved me $300 by understanding my car and not trying to suggest that I do an unnecessary repair. I will forever recommend this shop if you have a Volvo. read more

I had to have my beloved C70 towed somewhere for what I thought was going to be a major repair with the warranty being expired! I called Art Works first and talked to Jim to explain the problem and he said get it in right away and they would look at it! It was dropped off around 10am and I got a call around 3pm saying it was fixed! In one word, exemplary. I brought my 1998 V70 wagon here with a laundry list of oddities and concerns as I was preparing for a verrrry long road trip. They tweaked minor things that needed tweaking, commented on some things to watch that didn't need immediate care, and I left with both peace of mind and a wallet that was barely grazed for the quality of the service received. Even explained the one negative review to me without being aware it existed.... it was a 3rd party oil filter that wasn't reinforced and crumpled... makes perfect sense considering how low a Volvo rides. Anyhow, definitely my go-to if I hang onto this car and need service for it in the area later. read more

Took my Volvo in for its first service at Artworks, which consisted at first of a speedy oil change. After the oil change, I encouraged them to check other systems for a planned long distance drive. They found the coolant leak I told them to look for. The price was super cheap. I was amazed and pleased Within maybe 20 miles of that service it developed a massive oil leak. I honestly don't know the odds of that being the mechanic's fault. I've had the car since 2007, it's been around since 1999. We've never had any oil leaks. I've treated it well, never skimping on needed service. Jim pronounced it dead after it's sudden catastrophic illness (I had it towed back there, naively thinking that he would make me whole), charged me to declare it dead, and was cold and didn't consider broaching the possibility that the rapid oil loss might be a result of some service error. Myself, I didn't bring up what seemed like the super obvious. He did tell me that it wasn't worth paying for engine replacement ... "but if you want to sell it ?" At least the tow truck driver was sympathetic about the loss. His heartfelt sorry, being in no way responsible, made me realize what was missing from my interaction with Artworks. I'm sorry, Jane. I didn't drive you all the way up here to die. read more

I had my front brakes and an oil change done by Art Works and they did an awesome job. They are professional and clean, (they wear gloves) and to the point.. If you want your car washed and coffee and cookies while you wait, i suggest going to the dealership (its only a hidden charge of $100+). I used Art Works for several years. His rates are lower than the dealer's rates. I had a 1996, 960 sedan that was serviced here for many years. The 960 had tune-ups, a radiator replacement, and many other repairs that I can't remember. This shop is not fancy like the dealer's repair shop, but you will save money. This is an excellent Volvo repair shop. My last visit was around 2004. Very honest. read more
