I was really unimpressed with this place. I am not sure how this place is 4.5 stars. My friend and I entered and were seated. The waitress tended to us. I ordered an apple juice and her a Diet Coke. It took 15-20 minutes to get that. Then we both ordered the burger. The food didn't take long to get but it was not edible. The burger (which was a meatloaf ) was so dry we could not eat it. I love meatloaf so was excited to try this dish but was extremely disappointed. A bunch of time passed and we could not find our server to ask for the check. I went up to the bar to get it. So overall food and service is why this establishment gets a 1 Star from me. read more

It looks so bleak (to me at least) from the outside but inside it is quite the opposite. Bright and open, with a welcoming fire and friendly bar staff. We went there to watch the hurling final and even better they have no TV downstairs, but upstairs the manager went to the effort of putting on the large screen for us! Our own private viewing area. Typical pub grub fare but very tasty, soup and sandwich for €6. Pints of Guinness were lovely too. Definitely a hidden treasure. read more

My favorite pub in Dublin. The food is excellent: I had a Cottage Pie (on special) that was one of the richest, most exquisite, and delicious things I've had in all my life. Despite a spirited and valiant effort, I couldn't finish the humongous serving. Upstairs, the have live music. Arthurs Pub is less than a 5 minute walk from my friend's place next to Lidl. It was fairly cold out and they were doing construction so they did have a door propped open which made it much colder inside the dining room. We got seated a ways away from the front but it was chilly. I ordered a full Irish breakfast and I didn't realize it was a good bit of food. I also got a coffee thinking but I should've ordered a pint of Guinness. My breakfast was good although it got colder just a little faster than I would've liked. An amazing find just a stone's throw away from our flat! We did not try the food here but the pints are enough to keep us going. There was my favourite Metalman Windjammer on tap and quite a lot of other craft beer bottles behind the bar. This is a refreshing change from most of the dives on Thomas St although it seems not a lot of people know about it - mostly just tourists who wander in after their Guinness Storehouse trip. Enjoyed this place. Stopped by on a Wednesday night and this place was hopping. There was some live music that was just wrapping up downstairs - it was probably almost 9pm when we arrived. There was more music upstairs starting at 9pm - there was a 5 euro cover. We ordered 2 pints and bangers and mash to split. They have at least a few craft beers. The food was good and reasonably priced. It was a nice, lively atmosphere with both locals and out of towners. Would definitely come back and try some more food. read more

Stumbled upon Arthurs Pub on my way to the Guinness Storehouse and figured I should try some traditional Irish pub grub and wow what a pleasant surprise! I had the Guinness Casserole and my friend had the Irish Stew. We also had the fried Brie salad...WOW! We paired these with a nice cold Bulmers and we could not get enough! Pub grub often has a bad reputation for being a step above the local greasy spoon but that couldn't be further from the truth here. Living in the area I have visited most of the pubs on this section of Thomas street and for the most part they are exactly the same. Yet, when going to Arthurs for the first time for a bite to eat I was very happy to find some good music being played, the food was nice for pub grub, and the fantastic selection of whiskey they have. I've been here a couple times. I'd lunch in Arthurs today and brought a couple people from work to go for lunch. The chowder is really, really good. Overflowing with fish. Meh. I suppose the brazen head's Guinness beef stew set a high bar.. But then again, this should be easy order for most places to execute given we're in Dublin.. Instead, I found my stew to be more gelatinous than stew like and there were very few beef chunks (of which many were super chewy). The Hubby wasn't too convinced by the lamb (Irish) stew either. If we'd at least received friendlier service, perhaps we would have offset the food, but this certainly was not the fun, Irish experience I had hoped for. Worth skipping! read more

This was our first meal in Dublin, recommended by our AirBnb host and just down the street. We got a table upstairs. I ordered an appetizer of smoked salmon and shrimp on brown bread. My spouse got a grilled corned beef sandwich with chips (fries). He loved his sandwich. The smoked salmon on my plate was terrific but the shrimp were bland, and the bread was very dense! I have passed this pub so often on my way to work that I was glad to finally make it here for a drink. Popped in after a concert in vicar street. Most people turn right to head back to town when they come out of that venue. But just turn left and head towards the Guinness storehouse to find this place on the corner. It's a typical dublin pub, but a little different than other traditional spots, as it is on the corner of the street so has large windows looking out onto thomas street. It makes it a great people watching option and brighter than normal. The bar has the usual beers on draught, but also has a selection of craft beers. Imagine the Guinness must be good given the location and the name. The bar tender was pretty friendly too and had a good sense of humour. He told me it gets busy at the weekend here so must go back then to check it out. Blues music is regularly played too along with Irish speaking nights which sounds random but great! read more

I've been here several times for breakfast and lunch as it is close by to college. Each time I've been here something has gone wrong. The first time I was here I ordered a panini but asked to substitute crisps and side salad for chips, however, everything came together and I had to pay extra for the chips. when we went to the bar we were asked if we were students and told that we get a 10% discount if we were.....so they gave us a 10% discount. The Second Time I was here there was 7 of us and a man came to take our order without a notebook or pen......he came back to us about 20 minutes later to write our orders down and to double check that he didn't miss anything the first time....which he did, mine! the group i was with were half way through their food when I was served mine. After we had eaten we went up to the bar to pay separately and told the staff that we were students to get our 10% discount, the guy told us that they had never done discounts in the establishment so we all paid the regular price. after everyone had paid for their meal the man handed me a loyalty card for 10% off and told me to use it the next time i come in.....so confusing!!! I don't know why he couldn't have taken the discount off that time! The Third time time I was here will definitely be the last. We were a group of 10 and went in around half 12 so they were only serving breakfast foods which was OK. I ordered 2 sausages and 1 hash brown with tea and toast. When the food came the tea and toast was served together, to be shared among the group and not given to us individually. There were 3 pots of tea between 10 of us and we each got a half slice of toast as they had cut each slice of bread into 2 triangles and there was 10 slices of these......when we asked for more toast the guy asked us how many portions we wanted as he didn't want to make to much if we weren't going to eat it. we said another one or two slices each and he asked us several times how many slices that would amount too.....so much rigmarole over an extra bitta toast......he eventually came back with more toast which was the same amount as last time so we each got another half slice. since we had 3 pots of tea between us we all only had 1 or 1.5 cups of tea each. 2 of the girls that was with us only ordered tea and toast and consumed one cup of tea and 1 slice of toast each and were charged 7 euro between them......ridiculous! I had 1 slice of toast, 1 cup of tea, 2 sausages and a hash brown and I was charged 7euro......... I could rant on about this pub all day.....the food is lovely but it's way over priced and the staff are clueless! I won't be going back anytime soon..... One of my favourite pubs for a catch up - there's very few pubs in and around town without the distraction of very loud music and or TV's in every corner so when I want to actually have a sit down and a catch up with friends this is one of the pubs on the top of the list. It's a really relaxed atmosphere and they do decent pub grub too, reasonable price for a pint and the toilets are always clean. They also have a big cosy fire and at christmas time when the decorations and the tree is up, its goes from 'cosy' to 'I'm getting my duvet and hot water bottle and moving in' - love it :D Oh added bonus - Mannings bakery is on its doorstep - if its a saturday afternoon, go get cake first there (nom nom nom) and then over to Arthurs for pints :-) read more

I would love to give a 5 star review, as my food was tasty and the service was fine, but unfortunately my boyfriend got food poisoning from the shepherds pie and it ruined the last day of our vacation. I hope the staff/management can fix the issues in their kitchen so this doesn't happen to anyone else. We arrived at about 7:00 on Saturday evening. We were seated immediately, though people arriving as we were leaving had a 45 minute wait. The service was wonderful. Attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. We had the Shepard's pie and the corned beef sandwich. Both were lick-your-plate good. After a heinous day of flight delays we finally made it to Dublin and went straight here based on Yelp reviews. My fellow yelpers you did not disappoint! A true local despite being nearby the Guinness Storehouse, I was surprised this place wasn't packed! The bartender gave my husband several tastes without complaint as he tried to find just the right beer. The food, incredible! We shared the seafood chowder which we split due to Shana's review and it was AMAZING! Next I had the beef and Guinness stew which was just what you think of when it comes to Irish food. My husband had a shepards pie which was equally delicious. My daughter downed her chicken strips which weren't greasy at all, compared to every other place that serves fish and chips. My local, but I was here a for a gig this time. My real beef is with upstairs. The sound for the band was really awful. There are no bass-bins, and in a venue of this layout (long), the mid ranges don't carry. The stage is small, but has a ridiculous grand piano taking up far too much room, forcing a 5-piece band to squash together with no room to move. The piano wasn't even in use for this band. Why isn't there an upright piano! The girl behind the bar didn't exactly snap into service mode each time I stood at the bar - she needed to finish off her conversation with someone who took the cover charge. Swap out the statement grand piano for a sensible upright and get a decent sound system. read more

Arthur's was recommended by a employee at the St James gate brewing experience at Guinness. Food here was delicious. My wife got the Bangers and Mash. She stated it was probably the best meal she had while in Ireland. I had the Beef Stew which was very tasty. The staff was very friendly and very attentive.
