They do a really good job of pricing items for their true value. The shop has done some updates for the buying counter which is awesome! I stopped in to Artifact on Small Business Saturday while taking part in Little Boxes. I browsed around for a while and enjoyed their vast amount of interesting things, but didn't find anything in terms of home goods or decor. I was impressed by their selection of shoes as well, especially boots, but again, didn't find anything during this visit. I then went on to look at the sweaters, as I really do need a few more. After only a minute I found a gorgeous Autumn Cashmere cardigan in like-new condition for only $22. I hurried over to the dressing room area and tried it on, looking to the mirror outside of the dressing rooms for feedback. (Since you have to call someone over to unlock a room, I really appreciate that they have an external mirror for quick try-ons). In the end, I walked out with the sweater for $17 thanks to a Chinook Book coupon. I had a good experience here and will be back next time I need new clothing and I'm in the area. Favorite shopping place ever! The staff is always awesome and the goods speak for themselves! I can always find something -- for the house, clothes or shoes! I CAN NOT BELIEVE that people think it's expensive-- compared to buffalo exchange or house of vintage it's a STEAL. Everyone is very kind and helpful. Artifact is the best consignment/ antique store in town. There are gems every where in this store. Everything from boots, designer dresses from the 50's, lamp shades designed in the 70's, leather jackets, band shirts, boho floor pillows, bed frames, tables, jewelry, and so on. The staff is hit and miss in terms of being helpful, but who needs them when you can just wander around for hours on your own. read more

Used to shop here all the time, like literally multiple times a week. But I won't be anymore... a friend got me a dress and a shirt there as a gift (which was given to me yesterday) and they don't fit. I called to see if they would take them back for store credit but apparently returns have to be made within 3 days because the items "might" be consignment. When I asked them if they could look and see if it was consignment or not they said they could, but even if it was something they had bought outright I still could not return it. Every time I go in here it is as if they think Im stealing. Im not, Im actually really interested in vintage clothes but cant hang around long enough to look because the cashiers make it very apparent that they think Im a thief. Like, I just want to shop and look around without feeling pressured. With the prices being much lower than other vintage stores you would think they could have a more light fun atmosphere. Maybe its me, but honestly no store should make a customer feel like something they are not. 4 stars for garment curation and pricing, but I'm far less impressed with their housewares/furniture curation. Go here for the clothes not the tchotkes. They seem to mix in ikea with vintage finds, which I'm not personally a fan of. Garment pricing is decent, but be prepared to find a wadded up tissue in the jacket you're trying on. read more

This place has the best prices I've seen for this type of store. I bought a couple items for my walls and a nice wool jacket all for less than $100. Artifact has a perfectly curated collection of unique housewares, art, furniture, clothing, jewelry and shoes sold at prices that give the overpriced portland thrift stores a serious run for their money. In fact, this place has nearly replaced goodwill completely on my list of go-to places for unique goodies. This place has so many treasures! Make sure you do at least three or four laps around the store. And look closely at everything! Most of the pricing is reasonable and the items are mostly in good shape. Just be sure to inspect them and know that you really want to keep it forever. They do not do exchanges or refunds. All sales are final and it won't be verbalized because there's a sign on the counter that you may or may not see. I bought a rug here and it ended up having quite a few more stains on it than I remembered in the store and now I'm stuck with it. I think I'll dye it or something. That's really my only complaint. I use to LOVE this place. Unfortunately they have become much much more expensive in the last few months. I loved being able to run in and get a few good quality shirts for under $6 a piece, but that isn't a reality anymore. There prices are now about the same as a Buffalo Exchange. Along with the price increase, a lot of the more interesting and fun clothing items have stopped coming in. Just your average H&M and Forever 21 type things. The non-clothing items such as furniture and home decor are still really great! The staff here has also always been cool and friendly and beyond helpful. read more

I'm pretty sure the buyers suffer from fatphobia. Over the years I've consigned random clothing at Artifact, and one thing I've noticed since I've been consigning larger sizes is that they take nothing over a woman's size 12. I've brought in bags of clothes, that it's pretty safe to say are what's currently in style, size 14-16, and not once have they taken anything. I'm talking almost brand new coats, tops, pants. Not one thing has been taken. In years past when I was smaller and would bring things in, they would take almost everything. I guess the clothes aren't considered in style if they're for folks larger than a size 12. Just come out and say you don't take anything over a certain size. I do like the housewares section though. read more

I've seen Similar stores charge almost twice the price, so this place is pretty reasonably priced, and I like that they don't have to many items, it's not over crowded like some used stores. Artifact stands out as one the best consignment shops in Portland. If your items are accepted , you can get cash upfront or use the credit to purchase items in the shop. Pricier items are consigned the traditional way. I have been having the best time clearing my home of goods I am no longer enamored of ! The owner is a natural talent and has a great eye for choosing merchandise and a spot on ability to price things to move. She just knows. Terrible communication. I have a large beautiful antique buffet that we used as a credenza in our office to sell on consignment. It's gorgeous. We were moving offices, and it would not fit in the new office. Found Artifact on Yelp with glowing reviews. I called them and they explained their consignment commissions, said to email photos. Did that. Heard nothing. Called back, and they said just bring it on in and we would talk about setting the price. I said just bring it to the store? "Yes, just bring it on in." That was Thursday. We moved our office over the weekend. I hired movers to deliver the piece on Tuesday. I called Artifact to let them know it would be arriving and asked about setting the price. They said they need to see photos first. Told them I sent but would send again. She looked at photos and said it's more antique-y than is their style; suggested I call their sister store, Village Merchant. I explained I was already told to just bring it by. "Sorry," was what I was told today. Called Village Merchant, and they said they need 24 hours for manager approval. I explained the dilemma, and she said just a minute. I heard her discussing with a colleague my dilemma, and he said, "Yeah. I sent that to you." "I didn't get anything." "I messaged you on Facebook." "I didn't check my Facebook messages." Someone comes back on the phone, "Yeah, sorry, our policy is..." Meantime, I now am outside the window to cancel the movers. Had I been told all of this when I first emailed or when I called, I could have kept calling "antique-y" consignment shops. read more

Artifact may still be finding their footing but they are really becoming a new Portland staple. They have a great corner of true vintage and lots of other great items, including furniture; I've traded for my favorite lamps there. They even have oddities they will buy and sell, like skulls and natural science items, art, old and great jewelry that are decently priced. It's always fun to go in there. The service seems overwhelmed and understaffed often times, but they are nice so it makes up for any extra wait; mostly I feel bad for the staff sometimes when it gets really busy in there. I LOVE this thrift store! There are so many interesting antiques, art and trinkets in addition to the amazing clothes. I love thrift shopping for clothes, and Artifact has such a great mix of different eras at cheap prices. (Just got a great blouse for $8 for example!) One of my top five stores in Portland! I only wish it was in my neighborhood as I would frequent it weekly! The store owner, Leah is incredibly kind and you can tell has been doing this for a long time. The pieces she picks are well curated and she definitely prices right. I have found so many gems. My last trip I found a beautiful kaftan, a gold lion necklace, and a beach hat. There is always something to pick up. Last trip I found the most beautiful ottoman. The store is filled with things to either decorate your home or just get gussied up for the evening.
