We were spending the night in the area and found this place on Yelp. Outdoor seating and a huge window facing Lake Pewaukee contribute to the atmosphere. Inside the walls are adorned with artwork, done by local artists, that are for sale. The hostess and server greeted us enthusiastically. The menu contained about a dozen special cocktails. I had the Cucumber Refresh made with Aviation gin. I had two. We started with the beet salad which not only was delicious, but visually amazing. We had 2 small plates. Shrimp and grits and Chicken and waffles. Both were very well prepared and delectable. We then split the Hanger Steak which was accompanied by a very light potato and crispy broccoli. That too was very good. Dessert was what cost the 5th star. We had the chocolate dream cake and the promising Rumchata bread pudding. The chocolate cake was okay, nothing special. The bread pudding had nice flavor but was crispy, close to burned around the edge. I ate the interior and avoided the crispy part. A minor nit. Overall the service, ambience, and food was great. I really wanted to give this place a great rating because The service was great, the ambiance is cool. I like little hole in the wall type places. I also thought the food (I had the duck and gnocchi) was good too until I got need up in the hospital the next day with food poisoning!!! missed a full day of training being sick. I'd sum it up as low cost ingredients at upscale prices. We ordered the truffle popcorn, which was tasty, but it appeared as though they used prepackaged microwave popcorn. I had the crab cake sandwich, which was meh. The patty was soft, and slightly mushy, and made up of what appeared to be canned crab meat. The sangria, which was a special at $10 a glass was also a bit of a disappointment. Nice view of the beach and a relaxing environment. read more

Found the restaurant on yelp and made the reservation online. Went with wife and in laws. We had Brussels Salad with the Pan Seared Duck, the Red Wine Risotto with the Pho Ga. The in laws had a Pan Seared Duck and the Cavatelli Duck Sugo. We had cocktails and wine. All the food was delicious. Server was knowledgeable. She was a bit aggressive about clearing the table, even when I mentioned it (she "told" me she was taking my plate but then asked my dad in law if she could have his) , but then left my used silverware and chopsticks wrapper in front of me though the rest of the table was clear. Bearing in mind that the lighting was not bright, why have dark menus? The important thing is the chef did a great job. Would go back to try again. Would like to add that the vegetables in the Pho Ga were perfectly cooked, neither al dente nor mushy. Delicious. read more

Terrible. Service very slow. Never got second drink nor wine I requested. Risotto (the special) was supposed to be mushroom, asparagus and a garnish of peas. I specifically asked about peas because I don't care for them. She assured me it was just a couple. Risotto tasted like it was simmered in pea soup, maybe 3 half spears of asparagus and never saw a mushroom. Grateful I added the blackened shrimp or I would not have any flavor or food. Risotto was mush. My daughter's lobster bisque looked like tomato soup, almost a broth with oil. The guys' burgers were very good. The dumplings were great. Once food was delivered, we never saw our two Waitresses again. Manager walked around and never stopped not noticed empty water glasses or empty drink glasses. Very poor service. This place has some of the best cocktails I've ever had. All of them are so unique and creative. If you get the "Liquid Intelligence", just tell the bartender what you like and they'll whip up something custom based on your tastes, even if your tastes are obscure. On the food side, the Smashburger is incredible and should really be the only option - it's a small menu and everybody either gets the Smashburger or the Chicken burger. read more

We dined at Artisan 179 once before (2-3 years ago) and it was fantastic, however our second experience was far from that. We ordered the appetizer special of the night, sausage stuffed mushrooms, when they got to our table I cut into one and it was completely raw. I then went through the entire dish to find them all raw, a gentleman whom I thought may be the owner/manager came to our table and I told him the problem. He took them back to the kitchen and said they'd 'heat them up more'. Shortly after those were taken back to the kitchen, our dinner came out. I went to break apart my salmon to find it also was raw. Our waiter then came to check on us, asked where the mushrooms went (we explained) then I told him my salmon was raw, he noticed it right away. He put it on an appetizer plate and took it back to the kitchen - but left my entire salad that it was on at our table. Our mushrooms came back out and although they were cooked I've never had raw food reheated and served back to customers. The salmon came back, same piece on the same plate the raw salmon was taken away on, it was flipped skin side down as to not show how well done it was and now it was very tough and overcooked. We received an apology from who we thought was the owner/manager and our waiter however at no point were we offered any sort of resolution in return for all of our issues/disappointments. After we paid, two shots arrived to our table in which we thought was another way of apologizing but then they were served to at least 2 other tables around us. It's extremely sad to pay nearly $100 for two people, for a meal only to have it be raw, then reheated, served a 2nd time to us, and ultimately overcooked. This was such a disappointment and the way it was handled (or not handled) was something I've never experienced before at any restaurant - extremely unfortunate and I hope not all similar situations are handled this way. read more

I have had many grass fed burgers and other beef meals and this was very fatty and was way under cooked ( still alive) I had to send it back and still had no taste. I'm leaning closer to a 3.5, but it was a good night overall. I called ahead to inquire about a quieter table and spoke to a young woman who said they were not busy and I wouldn't need a reservation. When we came we were seated by a different host, and we were placed next to a table with children and another table with a loud conversation. We were able to move outside to the patio with little fuss, but it was frustrating for a while. The drink prices are a bit high. They were mixed strongly, so we weren't ripped off, but they were not subtle enough to really taste anything but the alcohol. Don't waste your appetite on the rolls, they were pretty boring. We started with the chicken tikka, which was overcooked and lacking in seasoning, especially for an Indian dish. A disappointment for a "snack" plate with a high price. Our salad and two small plates came out together, which was a bit awkward, but they all tasted amazing. We had the shredded Brussels sprout salad, the mushroom risotto, and the scallops. The salad was fresh and had lovely texture and flavor. It was served on a slate, which made getting it onto the fork somewhat awkward, and it would have been well served by some fresh black pepper. The mushroom risotto was our favorite dish. Perfect texture, rich varied mushroom flavors, and crisp aged Parmesan on top -- it was almost comfort food. Two of the three scallops were perfectly cooked, and one was slightly underdone, which is better than overdone. I got a bit of grit in one bite, but that's the nature of the beast sometimes. The corn puree was well suited to them, though the speck was somewhat lost on our plate. We ordered the hazelnut sphere for dessert, which was quite rich but very enjoyable. The cake was moist and had lovely flavor on its own, and the nutella filling and chocolate shell made it downright decadent. It pairs well with the coffee they served. I was pleasantly surprised that the coffee itself had good flavor and was brewed well. Not that they seem like slackers, but many full-service restaurants don't have the time to spare for fussing with coffee temperatures. I believe it was Valentine coffee. I would love to return to try some of the other dishes. The alligator etouffee and shrimp and grits sound lovely, and their entrees all looked fantastic. I very much wanted to try the carrot cake, but we wouldn't have been able to do two desserts with how rich the hazelnut was. This is one of those places where the worst part of dining there is trying to figure out which awesome dish to order. It reminds me of my experience at Parkside 23, though slightly more casual and with lighter portions. I will say that the prices were slightly higher than I expected, perhaps just $1 or so per plate, and the bar is definitely marked up. It adds up when you do multiple small plates and mixed drinks, but the skill shown in the majority of our dishes made it worth it, as well as the fact that most of the food is locally sourced. If you're looking for relaxing fine dining, try to go earlier in the day or on a weeknight. It's right on a lakefront and next door to a Mexican place so it gets kind of noisy both inside and out. Their private dining room and bar seemed popular with the locals. They have rotating menus and specials, which gives even more cause to return. read more

Enjoyable last night visiting the family. Had dinner there with our son and his family (party of six), on Monday. Parking was free and easy. No problem being seated, and the service was very friendly and professional. They had no problem with the fidgety boys. Trout and Salmon were delicious and well prepared. Good martini (hat tip to the bartender), and we ended up on the beach enjoying the late afternoon sunset. The room is very noisy when it's filled, and it was pretty full on Monday. Stopped in for a cocktail on a whim and really need to stop back for a nice dinner. Although I didn't dine with them yet, their menu looks very promising and creative. What I can comment on was the cocktail menu and the bar staff. The cocktail list is cleverly done with cute names that play on word phrases and hide double entendres throughout. Some are simple twists on classic cocktails, while others are clearly executed with home made syrups, craft bitters and paired perfectly with the right liquor and measurements. Bar staff was friendly, efficient, and very knowledgable. An added bonus is this place has live music. The night we were there featured a solo acoustic singer songwriter that was awesome. Can't wait to go back and have dinner one of these nights. read more

Stopped by there for lunch today. I ordered the Watermelon Salad for $16. It is described as following on their menu; Compressed Watermelon, Shallot Gastrique, Toasted Pine Nuts, Shaved Radish, Micro Greens, Ricotta Salata. I was surprised when it was served since it only measured 4inx4inby3/4in at the most. It had 3 slices of shaved radish that was 1/16in thick and 10 tiny leaves of micro greens that where perhaps 12in in diameter. Yes, I know pine nuts are expensive but there weren't enough to justify the price of this salad. This plate should perhaps be considered an Amuse-bouche plate, not a salad. read more

This place is the gem of Lake Country! Great food and drinks that you'd expect to have drive all the way downtown for, right in our own backyard. The hospitality and atmosphere is great and you can tell that the owner really cares about every guest. My husband and I really enjoy the different weekend specials that the chefs come up with - it keeps things fresh! I wish there was a bit more in it because I was still a bit hungry. My colleague ordered the beet salad, he enjoyed it. My other colleagues ordered the trout. They liked it. I tried it and did not like it. I thought it was fishy. The brookie we had for dessert was terrible because it was so dry. Please take that off your menu or improve it. I'm a lunch person at Artisan. I love and Ham and Swiss sandwich. Ham stacked high on toasted bread with an imported Swiss cheese that had a slightly strong flavor; nothing like you've tasted before. Artisan changes the menus by the season and have interesting combinations of flavor and entrees. You will also like the view of Pewaukee Lake if you're there during the daylight hours. read more

The location is amazing and the ambiance is really great. However, when I go out to dinner I expect my food to be amazing and great. I had the Thai cauliflower and beet salad. Both were really good. I guess for the price of the beet salad I would have expected more though. My husband had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were good the chicken, not so much. It was flavorless and spongy. We were compensated for the chicken and waffles but not before an angry manager came out and glared at us. Sorry, not sorry, for being honest dude. read more

I am still sitting outside of the restaurant. We just finished our dinner. Our waitress doesn't show up much. But right now I am fuming. So the waitress just came up to me, my husband is in the bathroom, puts her hand on her hip and says, do u think he would like to have his wine to go. Keep in mind I have some drink left also. Never asked if we wanted another drink and handed me the bill. She did ask if we wanted dessert .Hmmmm. I think I'm going to get another drink and.....not leave a good tip. I find her to be very rude. Am I wrong? And, is it legal to get a glass of wine to go.???? And, I was told happy hour only pertains to u if u drink at the bar but the waitress taking care of the people near us told them $2.00 off craft cocktails. I'm very upset right now. After my sister found her wedding dress, we stumbled upon this gem on Pewaukee Lake. We celebrated with some Prosecco and appetizers. The dumplings and popcorn were really good. We ended up getting a second order of the dumplings because they were that delicious! The place is beautiful inside and service was excellent. I will definitely be back! read more
