Great experience! We are in town from NYC and searched for a place on the water that had great food and lake views in the Waukesha lake country(how many lakes? OMG!) This checked all the boxes as Paulina was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Katrina made us feel at home as well as she checked in with us twice and we shared a few laughs; classic Wisconsin as even at great restaurants, they are family friendly sans the uppity attitude I have experienced in Chicago Dallas etc...........Aren't we all getting too old for that predictable and snobby game while overspending for "ambiance" and "name dropping"? Great place as one has many seafood, pasta, meat choices with a nice mix of homemade risottos/pastas and customized vegetable offerings. We went here (party of 4) to celebrate and it was worth it! From the host to the server.... everything was excellent. In today's world everything is about the experience and Artisan 179 did not miss a beat. We made reservations for a Saturday afternoon and we enjoyed the ranch flavored popcorn and poutine fries as appetizers and both were delicious! We talked about the popcorn FOREVER-lol! We also enjoyed several cocktails (Ron & Mary's Brown Mumbler and Pineapple Coconut Dream). We had the following as entrees and all you could here at our table was hmm...mmmmmm...as we ate and sampled each other's food. Alligator?! (Don't remember name) but it was enjoyed by all, the grilled cheese, the shrimp and grits but I substituted the shrimp for salmon as I do not eat shrimp. My husband enjoyed the chicken and waffles and we all sampled it and it was delicious! The chef (Richard) and owner (Ted) stopped by and it was appreciated by all. Love the food, love the drinks. I eat lunch there a couple times a month and love to bring friends. But had a weird experience today. My colleague and I had a great meal including 4 artisan cocktails, an appetizer, sandwiches, dessert and coffee. All was good...until dessert time. We each ordered a delicious mousse and coffee. Our coffee arrived quickly. But that was it. Apparently our desserts were given to the wrong table (by kitchen staff not a waitstaff). The people at that table did not order dessert but they said nothing to the kitchen staff helping out and ate our desserts! In the mean time we waited patiently with our coffee..... Eventually a manager(?) brought us our desserts and apologized for being so late. I then heard him tell the ladies (who ate the dessert they did not order) they got a treat "on the house". Ummm? What about us? You know...the honest patrons waiting patiently? Of course restaurant had to n/c the dishonest patrons who thought they were "special"! But that made our experience awkward. After.....While walking around, looking at the art, we heard the manager reprimand the poor kitchen staff who brought the desserts to the wrong table. We felt bad for him. He was being helpful. We are very disappointed in patrons who could have stopped the error! Why would you not say anything if you are brought food you did not order?? They could have prevented a reprimand.... or worse? Hope he did not lose his job.... we left feeling the situation could have been handled differently. read more

We had an unbelievable meal last night. The service was spot on. I had maybe one of the best old fashioneds I have ever had. The appetizers were delicious. We had steak and lamb for dinner, both of which were amazing. The dessert was unbelievable too, with a dessert drink called the Amazing Alexandria. I was looking for a place to have a late lunch after a day of shopping in Milwaukee, and I stumbled across this wonderful restaurant in Pewaukee. The restaurant sits across from the lake, so I can only imagine the beauty it would be at night time. The moment I walked in I was greeted and felt at home. Atmosphere is amazing! Sat at the bar and Miranda my server was so informative and wonderful! I order a blackened salmon on a bed of shaved Brussels sprouts, cranberries, pancetta, pine nuts with a vinaigrette. It was very good and the cocktails are great. Had a port with my fabulous cheese cake under the guidance of Miranda and a coffee. Best place a girl could ask for being by herself! The owner personally drove 30min to unlock the restaurant when they were closed on a Sunday to get it to me, and he was SO kind. Can't describe how much I appreciated that. The filet I had was cooked to perfection and the salted Carmel gelato dessert was outstanding. The good: pricing on food seems appropriate for most items. The bad: pricing on cocktails is ridiculous. $12 for pretty much anything. The annoyance: forced 20% gratuity for any table over 6. Just get rid of tips altogether then, and build it into the prices of food. You've clearly already done that for drinks. With your overpriced drinks and the forced gratuity, all of a sudden my $12 drink is approaching $15. The ramen that I had was overly salty, and was even stated as such by the waitstaff. The flavor was good, but over seasoned. Clue: if you're going to tell me this, why not just fix the problem? I chose the dish because I hadn't had ramen in many months since Tochi moved. My fault... I don't think we'll be vack, simply because it is not in a close neighborhood. $100 for some drinks, 2 cheap entrees, and an appetizer. Much better food to be had for much cheaper elsewhere. Oh yeah, the bathrooms were gross. A dirty bathroom eludes to dirty other areas in the restaurant that go sight unseen. read more

There's a new star on Pewaukee Lake and I couldn't be happier to welcome it in all its gustatory glory! In all seriousness, this location, situated right on the lake with a gorgeous view, was always ideal but the previous iterations of the restaurant (Piano Blu and Lakefront Grille) didn't quite fit the bill. Artisan 179, on the other hand feels like a perfect match for the space, filling a dining niche the city needed to fill, in my opinion. The restaurant offers a bevy of intriguing craft beverages with clever names. It's clear that they take serious pride in the craftsmanship behind their creations, making a gorgeous array of simple syrups in house, aging their own rye, offering house-made sangria, and even squeezing the juices daily for their delicious drinks. I'm going to do my best to work through their entire drink menu asap. The wine list features excellent curated choices to suit every palate, with a nice range in price point. The menu is perfect, filled with entrees, small plates, salads, and burgers that you just can't find elsewhere in the area. Our difficulty came in narrowing our options down, so we will certainly be back to try more soon. Every single thing we ordered impressed. The crab risotto (large pieces of crab, smoked tomato risotto, fried spinach) and duck gumbo (braised duck, Andouille sausage, wild rice, fried okra) deserve special mention, as does the beet salad (roasted beet, honey goat cheese, pistachio, micro arugula, brown butter balsamic vinaigrette) and their soup of the day - a deliciously balanced cauliflower soup that had me coming back for more. Service was excellent. Both our waitress and bartender were enthusiastic and very well educated about the menu. They inspired us to try more than we other wise would have ... and on that note: DESSERT! I don't care if you hate bread pudding. If you try the one that Artisan serves -- a Rumchatta bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream, I personally guarantee that you will be left longing to lick the plate. It was divine, with biscuit-like bread and a wonderful sauce. We were also lucky enough to try the house-made truffles, and they did not disappoint. Complex, rich, and decadent; just as truffles should be! The owner, Ted, was cordial, solicitous, and gracious, ensuring that everyone dining had a superior experience. I've been here many times since they opened. Cocktails are always amazing. Food quality has gone down. Owner roams around and is a little creepy. On one visit our table was unstable so he came over & lifted up my side of the table & shoved something under a leg for support. This was great except he aid no words, didn't say excuse me, nothing. On a whim, we decided to stop at Artisan 179 tonight. I'm so glad we had that whim. This was by far one of the best experiences we have had in a long time. From the moment we got there until the moment we left, we experienced a five-star restaurant. We didn't have a reservation, however we were seated immediately. (although, I know in the summer it won't be that way...) Our waitress, Kaylee I believe, was knowledgeable and very friendly, and made us feel as though we were at home. We ordered our wines, and proceeded to look at the menu. The menu is nothing short of a delightful adventure. Different dishes to tantalize any taste. It was creative,and made us really dumbfounded as to what we would choose. We wanted everything. Finally, we settled on the New York strip steak, and the duck. After eating hot rolls, our meal was presented to us shortly there after. It was amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides that were piled underneath that were amazing. It hit all of the taste buds, and fit perfectly and magically together. The duck was amazing as well. So amazing that I actually enjoyed it off of my husbands plate. I don't like duck. And yet I find myself savoring every bite. The brussels sprouts were heavenly. We actually fought over them. Wait, did I just say brussels sprouts were heavenly? Why yes, yes I did. We finished up with a rumchata bread pudding that with scarfed down immediately. We ate it so quickly, that our server couldn't get our coffee out to us in time to enjoy it with the desert. It wasn't her fault, it was just that good. The coffee was amazing, the after dinner drinks were amazing, the atmosphere was amazing, and the food was... amazing. We got a chance to meet some of the staff, the executive chef, and the owner. The chef, a Rich, really shared his heart and his creative freedom with the menu, and he made us excited to come back. In fact we may go back tomorrow. :-) The owner made us feel like family, and told us that it was an extension of our home. He was right. That's how we felt. Ted, we're coming back. We are bringing friends. As we left, the live musician thanked us for coming, the hostess thanked us for coming, and one of the waitstaff held open the door for us as we walked out. Let's start with the setting. Outdoor patio in July: Imagine sunset on Pewaukee, people and puppy watching on the beach. Bring a light sweater as one does in Wisconsin in July. There was a band playing on the beach that carried over to the patio and it made for a fun and relaxing dinner. Service is excellent. Our server Stephanie came by regularly to see if we needed anything. The owner also made regular rounds, clearing plates and filling glasses. Stephanie was considerate to recommend we get a starter because the Morrocan chicken dish would take a little while to cook, if we wanted a snack. The food is very good. It's comforting, fresh, and tasted homemade. The Morrocan chicken's flavor was amazing and super tender and juicy. Highly recommend. The ramen was not authentic, but the nori was so good! I could have just sat and munched on nori all day. The porkbelly looked like it had been cooked in the broth which doesn't make for a very pretty presentation but it was tasty and a lot of it! And then... the Rumchata Bread Pudding. Do this. Do it. The inside dining room and bar were packed when we arrived around 7:30. And it was loud. Like ear-ringing, you have to shout at the person next to you loud. Glad we were able to sit outside. read more

We had an amazing dinner here. About halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, we had an early dinner before catching a Bucks game. Now, please don't tell my mom, who endured years of her kids whining about Brussels Sprouts, but these were damn tasty! Chorizo, almonds, and a little aioli. Perfectly cooked. We had crispy wings that were tasty, nothing to write home about, but the homemade sauces to go with it were. Had a scallop special with bacon and kimchi (seared just right) and a crabcake that is very good by midwestern standards (coming from Baltimore, where they are an entirely different beast). We will definitely be back to check this out in the summer when the lake is free of ice. read more
