Mike and his crew are my go-to guys for hardwood flooring that I send to all of my friends and they've never let me down! Our lovely cat, Harley, has been the reason for us re-flooring literally 4 rooms and 2 stair cases with hard woods from the original carpet. Damn cat! Mike and his crew are in the door on time and within 5 minutes they're working at a furious pace. They're professional, always happy, and work their asses off. In June of last year (2013) we decided to completely redo our floors to a darker stain and have our floors sanded and refinished after living in our home for 12.5 years. There was never a question in our mind who we would use. We didn't even get a second bid because we got other bids before and they couldn't come close to his pricing. They did a phenomenal job and we trust Mike so much that we did all this while on vacation out of the US and left him with our keys. Here's a stroy to tell you what a great businessman and human Mike is. We brought in painters to do a large job for us. The painters swore they were licensed and bonded. They came in and refinished our cabinets and painted countless walls. And, on top of all of that, they managed to unplug our refrigerator for 5 days...with all the food and ice still in it. Destroyed our floors, 6 months after we just had them redone. Turned out that they weren't licensed or bonded and we ended up dealing with huge ramifications. Mike came back out and had to do the whole job over and, knowing that ultimately we were going to be eating some costs because the amount still due to the painters (which we weren't going to pay them) didn't cover our loses. He did the second job on a discount and did a great job. We had an issue with one room not completely matching (not Mike's fault) because of sun bleaching and our decision to not redo that room again but Mike found a way to make it all work. 6 jobs later with Mike and countless referrals his way and I can tell you that he is the best with the best prices. I will take the time out of any day to talk with you to tell you of my experience if you'd like. We met Mike through a referral. He's not a personal friend of ours, etc. This is just one happy customer telling you that Mike is your guy. As for Darth's comment and giving him a one star, all I can say is that I agree with punctuality but that everyone has their days and the reality is that in 2011 the economy was still a little bad and the reason that he was likely late is that this guy is really busy doing great work. Artisan Hardwoods just complete refinishing the floors in our condo. Their work was outstanding, they did no damage to the walls, cleaned up the mess and the floors look great. Their price was extremely competitive and they stuck to our very tight schedule. They had to work under some very strict condo rules that they did with no problems. I called to get a quote and ask a question about sound deadening the floors. The man who picked up gave me non-specific and non-technical word salad that didn't give any answers I had about the added expense of sound proofing. When he said he could set up an appointment to see me, I pointedly asked him for more help and answers that I had called about. He accused me of not giving me enough information to provide an answer, said I was calling him a liar, and then hung up on me. Be warned if you're looking for a specialist that want to speak to prospective customers in a respectful and courteous way. I also noticed that the man I spoke to was shopping in Home Depot for his supplies (he informed me of that while on the phone) and Home Depot....also does hardwood floor installation. Probably for cheaper with probably better customer service. I'd recommend going with them if the supply chain is the same. read more

We had about 15 sqft hardwood floor with water damage. Contractor offered to take some boards from an area under the stairs to replace the damaged board to match the color/pattern. First, he failed to take good board out, and since he had no matching board, he nailed in some random boards without our permission. In addition, we asked him to put a layer of wood in a cabinet under the sink to repair some damage. All he did there was to tape some papers instead. He charged us $150 just for taping the paper under the sink, and the repair of the 15 sqft hardwood cost $1300. read more

We had water damage due to a leaky dishwasher that required pulling out some 17 year old engineered floor boards. We had no replacement boards and finding a match was difficult. We didn't want to replace the entire floor as we have over 1500sqft on our entire downstairs area, which is seamless. They suggested we take boards from the pantry and inlay those over the missing area and replace with new (non-matching) boards in the pantry. Artisan Hardwood found a solution where other contractors had simply bid a complete replacement at 6-7 times the cost (due to our sqftage). The quality of the work was great, although getting them to respond in time to bidding and committing to work can be frustrating, which is not atypical for a small business that focuses on quality. read more

Evil overlording is hard work. It's a busy lifestyle. There are constantly minions to recruit, people to oppress....women to swoon. So the one thing an evil genius on the go doesn't like is having his time wasted. Unfortunately, these jokers don't seem to get that concept. If you're supposed to show up at 12:30 pm, show up at 12:30 pm. Hell, show up BEFORE 12:30 pm. I needed this guy to come out and give a quote on some hardwood floor refinishing. Around 1:15 this afternoon, I finally gave up and decided to go run some errands. Around 1:25 he calls and says he's in the area and will be there in 5 minutes. I tell him to wait in my driveway and I'll turn around to go meet him, but it's going to take me a few to get back home due to traffic as I was no longer home, figuring he wasn't going to show up. What do I find when I finally reset the navigation array in the Deathstar to point back to Casa Da Vader and make it home? NOBODY HERE. Darth Smiley was passed out in the doorway, so clearly he hadn't been agitated by someone ringing the doorbell recently. Now, 20 minutes later, this clown still isn't here. Probably a damn good thing he's not, because I just got a new colour crystal for my iLightsaber that I've been meaning to try out. It's a real slow economy right now - I'm pretty sure business isn't so good for flooring contractors that they can afford to throw away business like that. Which means this idiot's just a bum. Everybody else showed up on time today - this fool must have been a doctor in another life with how unreliable he is. The Swedish finish is very stinky but we moved out for a few days. We have personally refinished floors in the past and we know how hard it can be. I give them 5 stars for the work -- our floors were in desperate need of refinishing and they did an amazing job. The floors look really beautiful. We also had some damage to our stairs that needed fixing (wood chunks were broken off from furniture falling on them) and had 2 holes in a floor from old air vents that we wanted patched. The work was perfect--we can't tell where the holes used to be, I was honestly shocked by how good it looks. Their price is also really great--after calling around and getting quotes, they were the best and super dedicated to getting the work done. The only issues we ran into was communicating about the timing of how long the work would take and when, and although the outcome looks great, they did some work that we did not ask them to do. Mike said he was dedicated to everything looking excellent, which I appreciate, and it does, but we weren't planning on it getting done. So my advice: I highly recommend them because they do excellent work and at a great price, but just be sure to be very clear at the beginning exactly what work to do and the timeline, and then you'll be golden. I have nothing but good things to say about this company. A couple of years ago my window installers dropped a window on my hardwood stairs. The window company had several floor folks come by to quote the repair work. Artisan Hardwood was the only one that had an acceptable solution to the required work. They worked fast and their work was great. I just called them today to get a quote for some more work and they are fitting me in today to look at the floor.
