Do your homework people. Go to the CSLB website. Make sure contractors you hire are licensed and insured. With the amount of investment that you are making for these type of projects, there's no way you want to go for the lowest bidder because those folks are most likely unlicensed and uninsured, and worse, cut corners with your work. I know few people that got screwed by their contractor because they didn't finish their job or did such poor job that they had to hire another contractor, basically coughing up double the amount as originally planned. Don't let that happen to you! Enter Thomas aka "T" of Artisan Light & Landscape. Now, let me tell you that I did tremendous amount of research before I chose him. I'm crazy. I research the hell out of everything! After I researched about 30+ "reputable" contractors/lanscaping companies via Google, Yelp, CSLB, guys knocking on my door, left business cards and brochures at my door, and a neighbor referral to top it off, I narrowed my choices down to 5 and interviewed them in person. I'll tell you what. T was BY FAR not only the most knowledgeable, but he was super responsive and worked with me in designing a customized front yard that was a bit different than a lot of these "cookie cutter" designs that a lot of these contractors draw up, using the same materials from their previous jobs so they save money! We wanted our yard to look a bit different and small details meant a lot for us. T is very patient and super service-oriented, really focused to making sure that we were happy with everything at the end of the day. This type of service and care is absolutely rare in this industry. He also is a plant expert and will even provide you with a list of all the plants that will thrive in this climate. He also even offered to pickup our Plumeria tree from a nursery that was an hour away, so that we didn't have to. We wanted our design to be a little bit different and we accomplished that with T. Without any hesitation, I would recommend T for all of your landscaping needs. Oh, and he's also very reasonable with his pricing for the quality of work that he and his team delivers. He will not be the cheapest or the most expensive as some contractors are also out there to rip you off. After he is done with the project, during the last meeting, he will also provide you with all the instructions and suggestions to keep in mind to keep your yard in top shape! He even gave us a pruning lesson and even went out of his way to prune our out-of-control olive tree in the backyard for us. There are so much more stuff here and there that T delivered to make this experience an absolutely spectacular one, but this review is already getting too long and I'm getting tired of typing via phone, so just call him already! In February 2020, we hired Artisan Light & Landscape to complete a major overhaul of our front and backyard at our home in Lake Elsinore. The job included designing the project, providing appropriate documents to our homeowners' association (which was approved in our first submission), removing the previous landscaping, and installing the new landscaping, including a new lighting scheme. From the start, the owner of Artisan Light and Landscape, Thomas, known as "T," as well as his employees were amazing and easy to work with. At all times, they were pleasant, kind, polite, respectful and accommodating. Simply put, working with T and Artisan was a great experience. All told, the project took about a month. What we especially liked about working with Artisan was the fact that T was onsite every day working with his employees. This made making small or large adjustments to our plans very easy. In fact, he would often make suggestions or ask whether we wanted something changed. More importantly, when we wanted a change, he bent over backwards to make it happen. When we had a concern, he would listen and respond accordingly. For example, at the start of the project, we told T that we are very particular. He responded that he, too, was particular. Importantly for us, he was true to his word - which we greatly appreciated. For example, we had recently installed new fencing. We told T that we were concerned that the gate might get damaged during the course of the project. To alleviate our concerns, he took the extra precaution and wrapped it with bubble wrap to protect it. We truly appreciated that he did that. We were also concerned about a new front door that we had recently purchased and installed. He took appropriate measures to protect the front door as well. Finally, we have a pool and T kept the dust and debris from the work out of the pool during the whole course of the project. As part of the project, we installed steps from the sidewalk to the front porch and replaced our existing front porch with pavers. T was very methodical in individually cutting and strategically placing each stone on both the steps and front porch. It was an exceptionally beautiful design. Because of his perfectionist nature and attention to detail, he made a change to the design on our porch which resulted in it being even better than we had ever anticipated. Equally important, he did not charge extra. In fact, throughout the project, he gave us a lot of little extras at no cost. He did not nickel and dime us. We appreciated that as well. T also helped us in other ways. For example, we were having issues with a stucco wall which was not part of the project. When we asked him if he knew someone who could fix the stucco, he found us someone who did a great job at a reasonable price. After the work was finished, T happily took the time to paint the wall for us at no charge. It was above and beyond what he needed to do. Let us also add that T and his employees cleaned up at the end of every day and left everything very tidy. We also appreciated that. You should also know that we trusted T and his employees completely. We felt very comfortable with them being on our property at all times. In sum, it was very obvious T has been doing this for a long time and knew what he was doing. We visualized what we wanted, but we never dreamed how beautiful our yard would be! While we can go on and on about how amazing his work is, let us just say that he greatly exceeded our expectations. We had to wait a while before he could start because T and his employees are so good at what they do and quite busy. But, given that T was on OUR job every day until it was finished, coupled with the amazing work that he and his employees did, we can assure you that the wait is completely worth it! Totally deserving of 5 stars. T.M. is an easy guy to work with and he very much cares about the quality of his work and pleasing his customers. I appreciated his support and advice even AFTER the job was done. He did a complete job for us - we had a bare dirt backyard with the purchase of our brand new home. T.M. and his team drew up the landscaping plans (which we needed to submit to our HOA), poured concrete in our California room and in a few walkways, added irrigation and Bermuda grass, laid down stepping stones (perfectly aligned), laid down river stones, planted several trees and a bunch of shrubs, and installed low voltage lighting against the back wall. If for any reason, he cannot meet your desired deadline for a service he will tell you outright. His prices are fair too. I had requested and received quotes for a side yard from three equally reputable companies and he was the most concise and forthcoming with his quote. He took notes, went home, worked up a quote and E-mailed it to me. If you have a budget, he will be honest with you and tell you what will work best with your budget. Before hiring him, he gave me an address to view of a property he was working on. The place looked awesome during the day but at night it looked fabulous! The home had landscaping, hardscaping and beautiful lighting surrounding the property. It seems he enjoys the lighting aspect of his job tremendously, and it shows! Using plants I purchased, Tom designed and planted a side yard with a lovely durable border, mulch and a drip watering system. No more sprinklers watering block walls and other hard surfaces! Tom also replaced sprinkler system valves, repaired other sprinkler valves, replaced sprinkler heads, installed Railroad ties to be used as steps, advised us about trees and plants for our next project. Tee landscaped our front yard ... eliminated all the grass as well as a tree with roots under the whole yard ! While our yard is not huge, it was a huge undertaking. He provided professional drawings, listened to my input, did not try to "oversell" me. During the project, I wanted a change for the new sidewalk and he was happy to provide it. Meis, the owner of Artisan Light & Landscape, did for us is install a new irrigation timer that can be controlled through a cell phone app -- which was a huge improvement over the antiquated system we previously had in place. Then we hired him to remove all of our old and unsightly high-voltage front yard landscape lights and install a low-voltage system. His ideas on placement of the new lights and his execution of that project were outstanding, and we really love how the new landscape lights now show off our home at night to its best advantage. T and his assistant, Abraham, also did a major upgrade on our front yard landscaping, adding new soil, decorative rocks around our trees, removing or pruning old plants and planting new ones. T came up with a design for me which included irrigation and drainage systems. At first I was reluctant because he had quite a few jobs to do before getting to ours, and didn't give us the cheapest bid out there, but I've learned I'd rather wait a little while and pay a little more to have peace of mind and a job well done. With Artisan we got both. The job was done perfectly and on time and budget, and Tom was very pleasant to deal with. My review was an honest one. I paid what I paid to Thomas and did not receive the service I have been used to. I expect for $6,000 that things are done right. Quite simply, they were not. Plants were killed and others not removed as agreed. I was perfectly willing to pay to have the sprinkler heads replaced, no expectation of free service. I expected a small charge to have the heads adjusted as stated in my previous review. I was given a thank you for your business, but I don't do repairs anymore. That was it. Not professional after 5 years of business and thousands of dollars beyond the $6,000 spent at this house. I was not disrespectful of his service but honest about the quality of service going down. Thomas sent someone out to give an estimate for pavers but this was not Thomas' business- someone else. I had at least 6 other estimates for pavers for the same area-the highest one being $5,000. Thomas' person estimated $10,000 for the same area. I let Thomas know that this was way out of range for the same area. I guess he was offended and is now saying Im "disrespectful." No, but I wont have someone give me an out of line estimate without telling them so. read more

T and his team did a fantastic job on our back yard landscape this week. The entire process was professional from the detailed plans he provided to the installation and clean up, everything was done as described without any surprises. We made a couple of changes in the middle of the work and T just made them with his creative input without a problem. We added work after he arrived and it did it for us graciously with minimal cost added. Very Fair! When he was finished, we were very pleased to find a few extras he did for us at no extra costs. Such as two lights added where he thought we should have them, two new control valves to an existing sprinkler system and a drip on an existing tree. He likes to "under promise and over deliver". I had replaced three anti-siphon valves with help from my father-in-law a year or more ago. One started to leak, and I decided rather than going through that process again, I would bring in a professional. I called two places. One was rigid in their process for providing estimates and which equipment they would use. Then I found Tom. Tom was always up front with me and made the process easy. I imagine sprinkler/valve repair is a very small part of his overall business, but he never made me feel that way. He let me know up front he had several projects lined up back to back, and that if I was flexible in my time requirements, he would find a time that would work. Today Tom was in town and within 3 hours of my e-mail and phone call, everything was done. I received an e-mail letting me know that work was complete (I was at work at the time) and it included a picture of the finished product. Aside from his down to earth approach and professionalism, Tom also understood the challenges of trying to balance time with family and scheduling the work to be done. I do have to wait 24 hours to turn the water back on and test everything, but I have every confidence my leak is fixed and the lawn will be back on its watering schedule. Thank you Tom! read more

Five stars is not enough for this business! Originally we broke a pipe from the house to the main. He stopped everything to fix this not so small repair. We were heading out of town, caught it before we left on a holiday week end and he was right on it as it meant when we returned we'd have no water to the house otherwise. He went under a flagstone walkway, didn't tear it up, which we so appreciated as we wanted to keep the integrity of the walkway up to the front porch area. The sprinklers are original to the house built in the 60's. We would do "band-aid" repairs over the 40 years we are here, but it was time. We knew we would go with Aritsan. We knew what he was going to do, we knew what it would cost, we were given options. Every morning we had an ETA texted to us. They arrived, worked, cleaned up each day. Then we decided we would add some lighting to areas in the backyard. He advised what he thought, we were given costs and options again. I have already referred him, will continue to refer him as he is onsite working the job, he is dependable, trustworthy, quick to respond when texted. After we had our money stolen by the previous 'landscaper' we were very very hesitant to have our lawn done again, obviously because we didn't want to get burned again. I interviewed half a dozen landscapers because I wanted to make sure I found a reputable one. I finally found Artisan Light and I could tell they knew what they were talking about. They were very fair in how they presented their prices and their time. Everything was discussed with myself and my husband the day of and after a project was completed. There were no 'surprise' costs. The end result was a great project at the exact price I was quoted in the exact time frame that was discussed. If I can give them 10 stars I would. T and his crew are the hardest working individuals I have ever met. When we first met T he sat down with us and we told him the ideas we had for our front and backyard he took some pictures and some measurements and said he would get back to us in a few days. He came over with the drawings and a quote for us and after making a few changes we gave him the green light. I thought his crew would be the ones working and we would never really see him around, boy was I wrong. T was not only here everyday that his crew was here but he was working just as hard as the rest of the guys. This is really an individual that cares about his work and reputation they went above and beyond my expectations they all worked hard to finish the project in time. I loved that T never got mad because my husband and I made a couple changes to the plans (nothing major). After the project was completed we had questions about our water system schedule and he was here by the end of the week showing us again how to use it and set up different schedule times. I used Artisan Light & Landscape twice in the past 12 months to redo my front yard first and then, based on the awesome initial experience, redo my back yard. The owner, T., is such a great guy--very professional, detail oriented, knowledgeable, fair, honest and trustworthy. He truly cares about the quality of the work he does and has your best interest in mind. He even told me before he started working on the back yard that I could save money by hiring a gardener in the Penny Saver to do the clean-up work before his crew got started. He noticed something was not up to his standards with the sand in between the pavers of my front walkway when he returned to work on the back yard and fixed the issue (which I hadn't really even noticed) without charging me a cent. Also for no charge, he replaced the plants that were dying or not thriving soon after their initial planting. Months later down the line when the heat of summer killed off some of the more delicate plants, I contacted T. to see what we could plant in their place. T. was willing to come for a day and replant new plants at cost without charging for labor. I have recommended T. to four other people already. Without having a huge knowledge of plants/flowers I told "T" that I wanted a maintenance free rock landscape with colorful plants for my front yard. His bid was comparable with others I received but he won me over with his personality and knowledge. He's not pushy and listened to what I wanted. I ended up having him do my front yard and also back yard side sections. His bid came with the draft of exactly what he was putting where, all color coded with plant description and rock materials. Once he started the project I found a add for a rock fountain and asked his opinion of buying it. He told me to get it and he had no problem adding the electrical outlet to run it outside. I was so happy that he was able to do that so I bought a 2nd fountain for the front yard also. He does work with what you have to try and keep the cost down and was able to use some things that I already had. His crew was prompt and half the time I wasn't home and glad to find when I came home the progress and all there tools neatly put to the side with no trash laying around.
