Out on my daily 3 mile run at a new location I decided to finish the last 1/2 mile in a "sprint"…read more About a quarter mile later I tripped on a patch of exposed large tree roots and fell forward onto several random protruding roots. I spent a week in patient while they ran comprehensive batteries of X-Rays, CT's, and various MRI's. They imaged every affected body part in every image spectrum possible. I was very impressed by the professionalism and compassion of every single staff person I interacted with. Being in my late 60's and very independent I was not accustomed to this level of care. From the talented physicians, to the nurses, and all the other staff, I was always comforted they had my best interest in mind, even if I did not always agree with them. Once all testing was done and they could make a detailed report, I was released with much better news than expected. I was able to immediately download every test from their patient portal. This is especially helpful for my provider at the VA to review, so we can now discuss a plan moving forward. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality fresh meals, which were brought to the room still very warm. The best review I can give is to declare that I will always go to Providence in any future emergency issues. Hopefully I'll never be back, but if I do return, I know that I'll be in good hands. I highly recommend this hospital.

Severe communication breakdown and lack of empathy for a critical care family…read more ​Our family's experience with Providence St. Peter Hospital has been deeply distressing during an already terrifying time. My 83-year-old grandmother was recently T-boned in a severe car accident, suffering eight broken bones, and was only just moved out of critical care. ​She managed to call me from her room, but the phone was disconnected. When I immediately called back to reconnect with her, I faced an absolute wall of bureaucratic incompetence and zero empathy. First, the staff claimed they had no idea who I was talking about. Once they finally recognized her name, they flatly refused to transfer me to her room or provide any explanation as to why. ​To prevent a family member from speaking to an elderly, severely injured patient who just initiated contact is completely unacceptable. The extreme lack of coordination between units and the rigid, unhelpful attitude of the staff turned a medical crisis into an agonizing, aggravating ordeal. St. Peter's leadership seriously needs to address how their staff handles communication with worried families. Frontline staff need training on basic empathy and how to properly locate transferred patients instead of just shutting families out.

While Ashley has only taken over the management of the unit for about six months, she has a clear sense of direction for this unit and has implemented a number of processes designed to better serve their residents. It is very challenging to assist those with dementia. Ashley's team does it with kindness, care and attentiveness. I would give the Memory Care unit 5 stars. The only reason I gave this review 4 stars is due to the lack of staffing, which is beyond Ms Marone's control. Also Bonaventure has a real problem with turn over in the management team. I strongly urge Bonaventure to do everything possible to ensure Ms Marone's continued employment. She is a real asset to the company.
