Had Travis today. - Came back to book a cover up appointment, and get a small tattoo with my sister. We do tattoos EVERY year for our birthdays together. Chris helped me figure out what I wanted as a cover up, I really had no idea. I know that sounds crazy, but what I had there is something I had no clue I would need covered up one day. This was set in stone, I thought. I had absolutely 0 idea what I wanted. He helped me figure that out without making me feel stupid, I put my deposit down for two days later. So glad me and my girls decided to walk to this place. We went to another shop in Deep Ellum and the vibe was so off! I ask Siri for nearest shop and it lead us here! Would totally give this place five stars if I'd been tattooed before at another shop, but I don't really have a point of reference. However, based on how much I love my ink and how many compliments I get daily, I'd say I got my money's worth. Dom was amazing! When I decided to get a chest piece(shoulder to shoulder down to my sternum) I put out a Facebook recommendations post. Of course there was a lot of artist tagged in the post but one artist was tagged 3 times! That was dom. So I reached out and the process was smooth after that. We even had to Make some last minute changes(we both agreed to make changes I'm not a diva) and she was so cool about it. After everything was said and done I'm so happy with my piece and I constantly get compliments. People constantly pull up my shirt and examine my tattoo. Which for some is an annoyance but for me I take it as a compliment to not only myself but my artist, I would recommend dom and I have. Lastly the thing that people don't want to talk about. We went here for my brothers first tatt! The did my brother graduated he wanted a tatt! So we actually pulled up YELP and came here! They guys where super nice! They saw a picture of what our brother wanted and then they went in the back and stetched it out! It took a little bit of time, but when the artist came back with the drawing, we were all blown away! Went in and was introduced to Dave. Dave and I, talked about what I wanted which was a sunflower on my wrist and he understood right away without having to go into a huge explanation. I let Dave do what he wanted with color as he is the artist and i like seeing how creative an artist can get. I was very impressed by how little pain I felt for about 85% of the tattoo. I ended up getting a bigger tattoo than what I originally planned for but it allowed for more colors, depth and a more realistic look. Clean and professional, I didn't have any problems! I came here with my dad in 2013 to get a navel piercing when I was 16 and had zero problems. I came back at 18 to get my first tattoo Drifter was my artist and he really listened to what I wanted done. I got a tattoo for a a very close friend who died years back, it was a traditional tattoo of a bear and he really made it to where I love it. He made my first tattoo an awesome experience and talked to me the whole way through two 2 1/2 hr sessions. Turned out beautifully! Definitely, recommend AE for your Piercing needs. I've had two piercings redone here after taking them out for different reasons. The first was a belly button piercing several years ago and the second was my nose piercing 2 days ago. The staff is all super friendly to everyone, no matter if you are a walking piece of art, or there for your first time. The facility is clean and all instruments are wrapped and re-sanitized in front of you before they are used. The jewelry is good quality and they have Titanium options if you know you have a sensitivity to other metals. Price depends on location and jewelry. For example, the nose piercings ar $40 for a silver stud, $50 for the sparkle stud, and $60 for the Titanium jewelry. A few other people have reviewed stating the the prices at Artistic Encounter are high, but I've seen several other shops (particularly in the Addison area) charging $20-$50 more for a nose piercing. My piercer walked me through the whole thing, talked be through different suggestions for where she wanted to place the piercing and why, and was patient with my squeamishness when it was time to pierce the whole and clean the surrounding area. She was never pushy with any suggestion and was totally cool with moving the dot placeholder 3 times before we actually went ahead with the needle. I got my nose done Friday and by Monday (today) it is healing really nicely! I bled quite a bit after and had a tiny blood ring around my diamond Saturday and Sunday morning. I just washed it with the gold dial they recommended and it cleaned up easy. Tip: They do charge a 9% fee for all card payments! Bring cash and you will just pay the flat fee for the piercing or tattoo. read more

I had some work done at this shop a few weeks ago with my girlfriend and had a great experience. My artists name was Bailey, my girlfriends was Jonah. Bailey had a very traditional style, I ended up getting a classic sailor Jerry rose design pictured below. I am very happy with it. This is my second time at Artistic Encounter, the first was with Billy Jack at the Greenville shop. They really have the culture here down, they are all extremely professional and mindful of their clients. There was about an hour of downtime between tattoos during which I was able to chat with some of the other artists. They really make you feel at home or like your part of the family here. Worst experience ever...and I didn't even get a tattoo. Set up appt's for myself and 2 others with David for a specific date and time. I reached out via text to him, per his request...he never replied. Even text him to confirm the appt the night before, no reply. Showed up for our appt at noon and he's no where to be found. Another shop employee said he'd be there by 12:30...12:30 rolls around, still no David. Finally, about 1:15 he strolls in. We asked for our deposit back and left. Horrible customer service. The guy who was there, was clearly high...walking around with no shoes on...mumbling and totally out of it. I had heard good things about this shop but from everything I experienced, none of it was true. Will never go back here again...major thumbs down. read more

I had Travis tattoo a strawberry on me about a month ago. The template of the strawberry that he was using was bright red, because that is exactly what I wanted and I communicated that with him. This is my second tattoo, and my first one has the same shade of red. He tarted tattooing the outline, it was perfect at first. When he started shading in the color, it was a completely different story. He chose black as the main shading color, and I noticed this right away, before he even but the needle to my skin. I pulled away and said something along the lines of "what are you doing? I wanted to do bright red" and he insisted, explaining that is how the shading is done. Assuming that I know what the man is doing, I let him proceed even though my gut is wrenching and I already feel pretty angry that he argued with me. Needless to say, it's been a month since I've gotten this done, and the strawberry is so dark that it almost looks rotten. My fears came true and I'm hoping I can fix this. I will never go to Travis again. My sister, on the other hand, had a completely different experience. Travis tattooed her and did a great job. I'm not sure where things went wrong. read more

I just got my nose pierced here today. The staff was really nice. The girl gave me paperwork I filled it out, and then waited for Calvin who was my piercer. He took me back to a little room, it was super clean and I felt very comfortable there. Everything he was using was in packaging and he used gloves. He put a dot where he thought the piercing should go, and let me check it to see if I liked it or not. The whole procedure was super easy, and quick. Yes it hurt a bit, and my eyes watered a lot. But he put me at ease and put the jewelry in quickly. Then he asked to take a picture of it for his portfolio which was totally cool with me. It was $40 for everything. When I first walked in, the place seemed a little sketchy. It was around 10 PM, there were a bunch of guys just kind of standing around. They seemed a little rough. I'm one of those typical girls who just got a very simple tattoo and will probably never get another one again, so when I first walked in, the guys didn't take me very seriously. That said, once I figured out what I wanted and communicated it, Chancey was great. He joked with me about the pain, but he really was super gentle. He talked about some of the work he's done and showed me a really cool piece he was working on. My friends were with me, and he joined our conversation and was super sweet. The tattoo itself has held up great. I got it around 9 months ago, and the coloring of it is 3000% even. The tips of outlines aren't missing and, really, it looks perfect. Granted, it's a really simple tattoo, but because it's so simple, details really count. So - I'd recommend Chancey if you're looking for a nice guy, especially if you're inexperienced with tattoos. It seems intimidating when you walk in, but just tell them what you want and they'll take you seriously. Also their credit card machine is "broken," and the friend I went there with said the machine is "broken" a lot, so bring cash with you. Can't blame them. Credit card companies suck. read more

I went as a walk in last night to get a super simple tattoo; an outline of texas. i was immediately greeted, and the shop mgr even came by to shake my friend and i's hands. that was nice, because as mentioned before, a lot of parlors can be rude or dismissive especially towards girls or those who aren't super tatted up. so, rick was the one who did my tattoo. he was very friendly, made sure the placement and size were perfect and was overall really nice. he also made my lines very clean and straight, taking his time even though it was a small tattoo. he even touched up my wrist tattoo for free. definitely recomment rick and the whole shop. will be back for my next tattoo and/or piercing! read more

I just recently got my nose pierced here by jerry and he was INCREDIBLE. my mom and I went in there to check the place out before to make sure we wanted to do it at this specific place and from the start he was nothing but kind and helpful. when the day arrived that I was getting it done, he was very gentle and didn't rush me or get frustrated (I was very nervous about the pain). he even let my mom and I take our time and pick the spot that we wanted the piercing ourselves which was very helpful because I know some piercers are particular about choosing for you! overall the experience was wonderful, it didn't even hurt and I would recommend that anyone who is thinking about getting a nose piercing and lives around the area to do it AND do it here. I went in to get another dermal piercing. I've had many piercings in my ears, my septum, my belly button, my neck, my sternum you name it. Russell did a fantastic job. First he did my nipples pain free. I wanted hoops but we had to do the larger bars. He did it so quickly I didn't even mind that he had to do one then the other. They look fantastic. Then I decided I wanted a surface piercing on my face near my ear. Russell did it quickly and cleanly. He was patient with my friend and I and easily spent 2 hours with us for 4 piercings. We asked lots of questions and he made us both feel like there was no one quite as knowledgeable as him. He doesn't do tats which is too bad cause I was ready to give him all my money.
