Cody (THE BEST) told me I could just bring the bike in and he'd have a look at it. Within minutes he'd removed the crankset and set the wheels in motion to obtain a replacement from Shimano. Arts Cyclery's service is great! We brought in two of our mountain bikes - one with issues with the back tire and one with gear issues and they fixed the problems super quick and didn't even charge. The arrogant staff is obviously too cool for my money. One day I maybe will be cool enough to have them take my money. I typically try to support local business and have bought over 30k worth of bikes here. I was ready to spend another 3k in parts my son needed for his Surron but they are way to cool for surrons that kids ride. But didn't want to hear what we actually looking for. Just yelled across the shop and said we don't work on surrons. So I just walked out. I went to Art's Cyclery after looking around at other bike shops. I saw the reviews and decided to give it a try. I went in to get my bike chain replaced and a small tune-up along with buying a bike lock. upon entering the staff greeted me and was incredibly nice. I was able to get my bike fixed within a week. I also got the dates mixed up and brought my bike in a week early and they were kind enough to hold on to it for me until the appointment day. My bike is now fixed and runs smoothly again! I have a Townie Electra beach cruiser that didn't get much use during the winter. I brought it into Art's Cyclery because the chain was rusted and the tires were flat. I was expecting to pay for a new chain and maybe new tubes for the tires. They took a look at my bike and said that the chain still had more use and it wasn't necessary to replace yet. They lubed up the chain and got it in great condition, aired up my tires and sent me on my way! What amazing service. It's not often that you find someone not trying to sell you something. I will come back here when my bike needs a tune up, they were fantastic and so kind. read more

I was absolutely blown away by the knowledge, kindness, and professionalism the staff showed. There are quite a few bike shops here on the Central Coast, but I knew where I would take my business after the first phone call to Art's. They answered every one of my presumably dumb questions with enthusiasm and did not make me feel like I had no idea what I was talking about. I never felt pressured to make a decision, or was hard upsold to a more expensive bike. At one point the employee I was working with didn't have an answer to a specific question I had, and instead of making something up or giving up he offered to go over a few of the specs online together. Every person I had any sort of interaction with was the same way, and you can tell everybody there actually enjoyed what they were doing. I purchased a mid level bicycle, but got treated like I spent a million dollars. I could not recommend this shop more. read more

Visiting friends in the area, I shopped at Arts for some tires, rim tape and sealant. The staff was very friendly and had shared their local gravel knowledge. Seemed like a righteous LBS. Talked to one of the Mech's who seemed skilled. Curious about the Reno raging....maybe heavy exposure to industrial pollutants, or buyers regret for having purchased a battery bike. I highly recommend Art's! As a female rider, that isn't a gear geek, it is easy to feel intimidated / uncomfortable/ taken advantage of when going into a bike shop. I love the crew here, it's the exact opposite experience. They ALWAYS have had my best interest in mind when they give me advice about what I really need to do or don't need to do to get ready for a long trip. They will explain a concept in layman's terms in an understanding and non condescending manner. They have great ideas and are well respected far beyond the central coast. My initial recommendation to visit them was from the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike headquarters! And yes if you are fluent in gear geek they speak that fluently too! They are the best! Don't mistake their precious bar for a work bench, I went there for a tune up and before I set my bike on the bench at the back where all the tools are, I got yelled at, because it is in fact a bar for drinking. If you want to get a drink and hang with an anal owner named Trevor then go for it. This place is more of a Clubhouse than a bike shop and the tune up was disappointing as well. read more

Awesome local bike shop! About a year ago I was bummed to hear that Art's was closing (or at least downsizing and changing ownership), but these guys have done more than an good job keeping it alive. I actually like the vibe more as a smaller LBS. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They've got the best demo/bike rental deals around which is great. Decent amount of quality parts and components on hand and to top it off some badass beer taps. Also these guys are always putting out some entertaining and informative content. Just wow! I'm from out of the area and I walked in with a totally destroyed $900 carbon fiber wheel and tire. I was concerned about cost and time when working with an unfamiliar shop. The current Art's (on Short street) is like the Art's of old. Been there a couple of times with good experiences; on Sunday came by (open on Sundays!) to get a part for an emergency repair. They looked me over and quickly figured out they could do it much better than I could. An hour later they made a number of upgrades and I was out for an afternoon mountain bike ride (my friend rented a demo). A reminder we need to support the local shop, buying on line may be cheaper, but destroys the local bike culture in the long run. read more

I went in with one of my buddies because he wanted to rent a bike. We had already paid and signed and we were outside putting the bike on our rack. We loaded another bike onto the rack in front of the rented one. Out of nowhere Jon one of the employees comes out and starts telling us in a rude way "you need to be careful with the bikes, it's a $10k bike and you're going to mess up the parts" he also pointed to the bike saying that it was going to scratch and damage their bike, which the other bike wasn't even touching it. Like how do you expect us to take it anywhere if we can't even load it up onto the rack without being told anything. We understood it's an expensive bike but we weren't gonna trash it or mess it up, we took care of it like if it were our own. With that being said it totally unnecessary and unprofessional for him to come out like that and talk to us in a rude manner how he did. However I do commend the cashier who rang us up, he was much nicer and helpful than Jon the other employee. read more

I don't even know where to start in telling you all the reasons these guys are amazing. We had a huge trip planned across Colorado and into Utah crossing wilderness and big mountains. We took our bikes to another shop and were told they had been completely serviced and were ready for the rigor of the huge adventure we were getting ready to embark on. I have lots of skills but mechanics isn't one of them so when the experts say they have done their job and we are ready, I believe them..... well to make a really long story short a very bike techy friend of mine was helping me install some last minute gear on my bike and began to question me about why I hadn't had my breaks replaced, and my gears worked on, etc. Etc.. I told them they had and he pulled them out and showed me they hadn't! So now to where the story gets good, in a panic days before we were leaving for our massive expedition we remembered Arts Cyclery had been highly recommended by all the guys up at the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Shop in Santa Cruz. We rushed them down to SLO and these guys worked miracles as there was a lot to fix between two bikes. Art's was already totally booked for the week but came to our rescue. They also were super honest about what needed to be done and what could wait. They created the smoothest flow between my shifting that I have ever felt on my bike. These guys are miracle workers, kind, knowledgeable, and just good humans! I can't thank these guys enough for making my 208 mile journey from Telluride to Moab a safe and amazing experience!
