I haven't laughed this hard during a meal in my life. This place is an absolutely riot. Our server, postboy, was amazing. He completely engaged the kids at the table and made fun of all of us. Reggie completely set the mood during the check in for our reservation. Even coming over and saying the kid at our table looked like Dewey from Malcolm in the middle. For anyone's coming here: it is not your traditional diner. The servers are basically comedians who will make fun of you for anything. The atmosphere is set in 1950-1960 diner culture. What a fun place to stop for dinner! We ate here 3x in 3 days because...kids. The food was great. Kids loved the pancakes, the Cobb salad is just as good as all the reviews say. We got milkshakes only on our last visit. The sing and dance every once in awhile so we got to see them perform 2x. One waiter was better than the other at roasting us & giving us a "show," but overall it was a fun experience. I came here because the cast of Pod Meets World have talked about this place and how much they loved it and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I had no idea that this was one of those restaurants where everyone insults you and is rude to you - but it was a fun surprise! I commend the hosts and servers here because it is honestly so much more work to insult people without crossing a line than to just be fake-polite. It sounds exhausting, so please TIP THEM WELL! Our server, I can't remember his name, but he told us to call him, "Daddy," was really in character and so funny. Also just listening to all the servers around us insult the customers is so funny and entertaining. Yes, this place is touristy, but it's also a really fun atmosphere in an old-school diner - what's not to love? Food is decent, very typical diner food. Ed Debevic's is known in Chicago for their sassy wait staff and fast food. They will intentionally attempt to hurt your feelings in a very funny way. They ridiculed my clothes and food choices throughout our visit, but I still had a great time. The food is okay taste-wise, as the atmosphere is the star of the show. If you're used to polite and professional weight staff, be prepared to have your feelings, hurt here , and have fun at the same time. read more

Peachy was fantastic, absolute queen, and a great (sassy) server. Vibes inside are refreshing and smooth with old diner ambiance. Food was everything you need in a classic American breakfast (so good we didn't get a chance for a picture before it was gone). And the price was super reasonable right off Michigan avenue! EXCELLENT!! I stopped in to pick up my to-go order of biscuits while on vacation in Chicago, and what a great surprise this place was. I was greeted by an impeccably dressed chick from the 50's who had no time for me. She read me like the Tribune and dismissed me as if it was 3:00 on a Friday after a long week of school. I had no idea what I was walking into, as I had never heard of Debevic's, but was in the mood for biscuits. They were divine, by the way. Before long, a greaser showed up, and as with his lady friend, my presence was like a pebble in his shoe. These two made my day. They remained in character and had me cracking up. Fun touristy place for a good breakfast. I had the hippie scramble, with fresh ingredients and well prepared. The staff were appropriately rude, available and attentive. I came here in a whim with my husband because we were staying at a hotel around the Magnificent Mile. We didn't know anything about Ed Debevic's, but it was such a fun experience! The decor was really cool with that classic diner feel, and of course the servers are loud, rude, and obnoxious in the funniest of ways. We got to see their performances, which was hilarious. Have to share my experience tonight-- I'm originally from Detroit but I love me some Chicago and I used to always bring friends here so they get this fun experience. Time has moved Eds from its original spot but this one is great! I want to thanks Eddie our server tonight for a great experience- I was a bit hesitant to bring my son who has autism to Ed Debevics because you never really know how they might take a joke, but my kid has a great sense of humor and it turned out to be a great memory made! Eddie was pretty quick to modulate and he "got it" situationally pretty quickly. Loved the food, had a club sandwich and my son had 2 hot dogs- think we misjudged the size because one would have been enough. The chocolate milk shake was phenomenal and my son loved the smallest sundae in the world- he loved the joke. Thanks Eddie you're great at what you do! read more

A fun time for the family and decent food. Service with an attitude but it's all in good fun, plus it helps clear out the crowd faster. Monday night in summer still had a 20-30 minute wait and I see why. I appreciate that they have a gluten free bun option, but it was pretty obviously thawed from frozen for my burger as it was very hard in spots. I haven't been to Ed Debevic's in a looooooong time so it was time to have the boyfriend and my teenage daughter experience it. It has been so long since I have been there, I wasn't even aware that they have moved, haha. I made a reservation on Tock, but we were eating at an "off" time so if we hadn't, I don't think the wait would have been too bad. What I remember about the place as a kid was that it was sassy with straws flying through the air and that they have the "World's Smallest Sundae." Both things are still true, although the straws now are biodegradable! For being sassy, our waiter was funny, not mean, and still communicated clearly around when he had to go and dance. He let us know that he had to go dance, but he would refill our drinks as soon as he was done. The menu was larger than I remember as a kid and I believe most, if not all, of our party of 5 was happy with their choices. I thought theme restaurants could either have good food OR be fun, but Ed Debevic's is BOTH! My burger was juicy and I was satiated with the portion. The crinkle fries were crispy and delicious. My only comment on the burger would be that the bun was a little dry, but overall, I was happy with my choices. The DJ looked like he was having the time of his life and I swear that every time I looked at him, he had a different hat on his head! The restaurant was clean. The chairs were a little close to the tables around us, but not the end of the world. Would I rush back there for a burger? No, there are plenty of places in Chicagoland to eat those, but I would be happy to take anyone that would want to experience it again! read more

Fun place, fun atmosphere, fun servers. Great classic 50s diner with "sassy" servers. Went with the girlfriend and her two daughters (8 and 14 yo) so family and kid friendly. Everyone seemed to like their food and shakes whether they got a burger, breakfast food, or sandwiches. I got the club sandwich on wheat with fries and it was both good quality and quantity. Shakes were classic with the extra also served in the aluminum mixer cup. Would recommend for a group of friends or a family if you're up for some light hearted fun with your food. I ate at this place when my band performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Leadership wanted to bring everyone here for dinner. As a foodie, it was just okay. The breakfast was solid and the entertainment made the whole experience even better. It was my first time visiting since they moved to the new location, and it definitely didn't disappoint. 100 stars is what my kids want to give this review, but sadly, we are capped at five. I grew up going to Ed's whenever we had out-of-country guests. Now I live in California but when I come back with my own kids, we go here and have a great time. The food is fine, and exactly the kind of thing that kids like. The service and ambience is why you go! We had the joy of "Chirp" being our server. She was patient and hilarious with each of my three kids, and seemed to get them as individuals (if she ever stops gracing Ed Debevics with her presence, she would be a great educator!) The night after we went, we ended up walking by Ed Debevic's and waving to her from the window. She was so cute and ran out to greet us, and it made the kids feel so special. Especially when she remembered each of their names and made them laugh! The problem is they don't have the quality in the food to back up their service. We all had a good time but most everyone in our party was disappointed in the food. This place was literally a block away from our hotel. Can't remember if I was here years ago or merely only heard about it, so off we came for breakfast. Come here if you want to be verbally harassed (lovingly and jokingly). Ginger was our server and she could dish it out like the best of them!! My husband ordered the blueberry pancakes and they were fresh, light and very tasty. He ate then without syrup as they didn't have sugarless syrup ( sounds contradictory but he is on a restricted diet). I got something I generally wouldn't because I generally go for eggs, but it sounded so good: banana bread pudding French toast, served with fresh strawberries, blueberries and home made whipped cream. I took half of it with me.. Lots of fun, but our only complaint was it took 20 minutes or so for our food to arrive. And please carry sugar free syrup! This is a fifties style diner with burgers, shakes and more but the most noteworthy thing is the servers. They came to roast their customers! It's all in fun but this place isn't for the sheltered or easily offended. My kids loved it, especially my daughter when her little brother was called a turd haha Besides teasing customers, the servers dance and write a funny note in your hat if you're wearing one - or they'll just give you one. We had a great experience here! We took our young kids and they enjoyed the music, dancing, silly waiter, and milkshakes. Honestly, I was so pleasantly surprised by how good the cheeseburger was. I was not expecting much since I figured this restaurant would be more about the experience, but it was a great burger. I had the Southwest chicken salad which was also good, but would definitely get the burger next time instead. 4 stars instead of 5 because we could of been checked on a little more as far as bringing more water and a little faster with the check. If you have not been here, be prepared for good food served with a healthy side of sass........My wife and I went in for breakfast, and were greeted by the snarky and hysterical server Skip........we knew this was going to be a classic time when we asked for water, and he said, "Great, you are up to $0.00.....this is going to be a fantastic tip." Took my son and grandson to Eddeb Vic's last night I ordered scrambled eggs with grilled onions buy toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. Add send the bacon back cause it wasn't burnt like I asked for the waiter was a riot. He's very funny. He kept playing with us. We put on the Ed Debevic hats Mohamed Ruben sandwich Wood she loved my son had chili with all kinds of stuff in it and my grandson had a hamburger everybody thought. My son's girlfriend and my wife were afraid to be yelled at, but my oldest son was ready for the harshness. Overall my Cobb salad was good and was a large portion.
