Fine Art Conservation Laboratories - My John Leslie Breck painting after reckless vanish removal with major paint loss to signature and date.

Fine Art Conservation Laboratories

Subject: Response to Your False Statements & Continued Demand for Compensation for Damage to My…read moreJohn Leslie Breck Painting Mr. Haskins, I am writing in direct response to your recent false statements regarding the severe damage caused to my John Leslie Breck (1860-1899) painting by your conservator, Virginia Pannizzon, in February 2022 at Fine Art Conservation Laboratories (FACL). Your attempt to deflect responsibility and dismiss my well-documented concerns as "false authentication" is both unprofessional and demonstrably untrue. First and foremost, neither you, Virginia Pannizzon, nor anyone at FACL are recognized experts on John Leslie Breck or his works. You are in no position to declare my painting or its signature "fake," particularly when Bonhams Los Angeles--one of the most reputable auction houses--had already placed an initial auction estimate on my painting before it was brought to your facility. Bonhams' willingness to assign an estimate indicates that they considered the painting to be authentic. However, due to the irreversible damage inflicted upon my painting by your conservator, Bonhams and other auction houses will now likely refuse to list the work. Furthermore, you state that my painting was "not damaged at all," yet I have photographic before and after proof documenting the drastic alterations made to the painting under Virginia Pannizzon's care. These include: 1. Significant paint loss on the right side of the painting, particularly in the dark tree canopy and vegetation, which was stripped away due to Virginia's careless, heavy-handed varnish removal process. 2. Destruction of the artist's original signature and date, which were nearly obliterated. The crude and unethical attempt to repaint the signature is inaccurate in both form and color, making the damage even more apparent. 3. A condition report from Virginia herself, in which she acknowledges that damage occurred under her care. I have this document in my possession, further proving that you are knowingly providing false information in your statements. Despite the overwhelming evidence of your facility's negligence, you continue to evade responsibility and even go so far as to call me delusional. This is not only insulting but highlights your complete lack of professionalism, accountability and contempt for your client for calling out your very poor business practices. It is disgraceful that your company refuses to disclose its insurance provider, forcing me to take legal action to obtain this information. Your employee, Gina, has outright stated that I must hire a lawyer to determine your insurance carrier, further demonstrating FACL's hubris and refusal to be held accountable for its reckless art conservation practices. Given the extensive evidence I have provided, I once again demand full financial compensation for the irreversible damage caused to my painting. If you continue to deny responsibility, I will escalate this matter through legal channels, insurance claims, and more public awareness, ensuring that your unethical business practices are exposed. I expect a formal written response addressing this matter by March 21, 2025. Failure to do so will confirm your unwillingness to engage in a professional resolution, and I will pursue all necessary legal actions against Fine Art Conservation Laboratories, Inc.

Best restorer in the world!…read more If you have art made of porcelain, alabaster, marble, terra cotta, colored glass etc., that needs restoration, you must see "Dinka". She is an artist whose work combines sheer genius with intense passion. Recently, she restored my italian alabaster lady reclining on a bronze bed with elephant posts. Sunlight now flows throw her body as it most surely did 100 years ago. If you love your art and it needs restoration, just go to Dinka's studio.

i inherited a beautiful 1950's painting. simple, yet avant garde and modernist composition. i…read moredon't know what type of paper this was painted on... other than very thin, and very brittle! it could have been because of the age of the piece, maybe prior poor storage -- i don't know. but if you so much as touched the paper it would literally crack and crumble. now... i didn't touch the paper! i know my dog didn't bang into it either because it was up on the wall! but one weekend after a few guests i noticed oh my god there is a hole in the painting! there is a hole in the painting! it was not a big hole, about the size of a quarter, but it was still very noticeable and as i gawked at it going oh my god, and as i tried to press the tear a little bit back together, the paper would just crumble more. so i thought to myself again, oh my god there is a hole in my painting! my ex used to collect art. he's crazy but he had good taste. i remembered he only brought his pieces to a restorer in beverly hills - paintings, sculptures. sometimes metal pieces. i dug out our old credit card records scouring my mind, "what was the name of the place... what was the name of the place." and i found it. amphora. whew! i made an appointment with dinka. very carefully loaded the painting in my car. i had a picture of what it looked like before the hole (insurance!... ). she studied it carefully. i'm wondering what is she thinking, hmm, what can she do. and she simply said quite definitively and with a nice smile, yes she can fix it. i knew from items my ex had fixed that she had done an excellent job. but those were hard-ish things - scultpures, some porcelain, some metal objects etc. i was worried about this painting because seriously the paper was so flaky and thin. almost like filo dough / pastry! but dinka said yes, she could fix it. there was artwork all around the studio, stuff being repaired, including some picasso bowl. she showed me the before and after of an oil painting she had restored. the glaze had cracked, there was smoke damage all over, but she cleaned and fixed it. i could see from what she was working on, she knew very well what she was doing and how to do it. and i had enough knowledge of art history (thanks, art history 101, columbia u!)to know, she knew what she was talking about. so... flash foward to three weeks later. i get a call my painting is ready. i head down, take a look... and wow. simply cannot believe it. i'm actually looking at the painting again for where the hole was. i knew it used to be on the lower left of the painting but now as i look for it, i simply cannot see the hole - or any trace of it. there was red paint in the original area where the hole had been made, the relief / texture of the original paint itself creating part of the imagery (like van gogh used to do). anyway as i am checking the repair i see that first off, the colors have been matched PRECISELY. whatever 60 year old paint looks like, hsa been recreated here PRECISELY. and then i am looking at the canvas / paper. which again has been matched and patched to a T. i don't know how this was done. did she have 60 year old paper that matched?!!! what i do know is, the restoration was quite flawless. i have quite a good eye for detail. i can tell usually tell when something's had a touchup or a fix. whether on a painting... or on a face haha... but nope - absolutely no trace of any work here. it's as if the painting was in it's original and beautiful state and that nothing had ever gone wrong with it. the work was impeccable. so, my painting is back to it's good old self. there is no trace of a tear or repair. price was extremely reasonable. dinka was extremely nice to work with as well. all of which means i'm very happy here. will not be happy if someone else makes a hole in my painting (!). but at least i will know where to bring it if they do....

Centurion Fine Art Restoration - Repaired frame that looks even better than it did before it was dropped on floor.

Aixa is not only a miracle worker but also one of the nicest people I've ever met. When renovating…read moremy mother's home on the Westside after she moved to a nursing home in 2019, a construction worker inexplicably moved and dropped this painting even though I had set it aside with only a few items that I wanted to keep in a room that he wasn't even supposed to go in. Not only was this unique frame from about 1904 badly damaged, but about half of the molding was missing. To say I was upset was an understatement, and I assumed the frame was a lost cause. After finding Aixa on Yelp, I reached out to her in 2019 to see if she could repair the frame, but then life and the pandemic got in the way and nothing got done. I reached out again to Aixa in late 2024, and five years later she still remembered my email and this painting! I brought it to her studio, and she spent close to an hour explaining to me exactly how she would restore the frame step by step. I could immediately tell that she takes immense pride in her craft. I still don't know how she did it, but not only did she figure out where and how the broken pieces of molding fit back together, she also "magically" carved new molding where the sections were missing. Upon careful examination of the frame when I picked it up, not only were there no cracks but I couldn't tell where the broken pieces and her carvings all fit together. Perfectly seamless! I had hoped to only repair the molding, but ultimately Aixa took the frame apart and put it back together because the damage to the joints was worse than it looked. Despite the additional labor, she stood by her original estimate. Lastly, I didn't know this beforehand, but the frame isn't simply painted gold. Instead, to achieve the historical look of the frame, small pieces of gold leaf (you can use real gold leaf, but fake gold leaf looks just as good and is much less expensive) are carefully and methodically applied to the frame. Once again, Aixa's attention to detail and meticulous work is obvious when looking at the before and after photos! Her studio is no longer on the Westside, but totally worth the drive if you have something that you cherish and want to restore.
