The quality of their fish is great, you can tell it's fresh and not cheap quality. Their fresh fish rolls are the best you can really taste the quality compared to the baked or fried stuff. This is a hidden gem in the valley. From the outside I did not expect the interior to look so nice and Japanese style. The sushi omakase was so tasty with different cuts of fish like toro, salmon belly and more. Each one had garnishes like chili oil, yuzu, fresh wasabi, etc. The presentation is stunning. We were looking for a sushi spot after my boys event in Granada hills and this spot has a lot of reviews. As soon as we got here I realized I have been here maybe a couple of years ago. The wait time on a Friday night after 9am was still about 15+ minutes. First thing I noticed was their menus. It's the same template as Koppan Ramen. When we got seated I also noticed the seats/booths are the same. Maybe they used the same designer. Onto the food, my son is in his unagi phase so he got the unagi hand roll and unagi sushi, I got the calamari and soft shell crab to share, my other son got the mini negi toro don and Benjie roll. I got the Snow White roll, halibut and yellow tail roll. Loved the soft shell and the mini toro don. Price was pretty good. Our server Louis was attentive and nice. I flagged another server to check on my order and he got a bit of attitude so docked a star for that. Met a friend for lunch and we ended up at Asahi honestly, such a solid choice. They have a great selection of lunch specials, and I went with the late lunch box. It came with miso soup, a fresh salad, a sushi roll, and your choice of protein and rice perfectly portioned and super satisfying. Naturally, we couldn't pass up a tall glass of Hite to go with it . Though Asahi Sushi has been around for such a long time, today was my first time giving it a proper chance and I am soooo happy I did. I definitely see it becoming one of my favorite sushi spots. There's a very classy but cozy vibe to the ambiance, staff is welcoming and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious! I really loved the spicy garlic edamame and out of all the rolls we ordered, the Pink Lady was my favorite. All of the fish was super fresh and I think all of the rolls we ordered had a great combination of ingredients. My friend has eaten here plenty of times and recommended it to me. I met her for lunch and today was my first time dining here. There was no wait at all and parking was easy (plenty of parking spaces in the parking lot... no charge). This restaurant poisoned me and are likely to do the same to others with food allergies. I provided my allergies written on a piece of paper when ordering. The waiter took the paper to the kitchen and assured me our order was safe. I knew one item, which I was not planning to eat, was not safe. The waiter checked with the kitchen again and assured me both other items were safe. Upon tasting one of the items, I immediately knew chili peppers, to which I am allergic, were included. To make the entire situation worse, rather than showing concern for my safety, I received an explanation as to why the restaurant staff shouldn't be expected to know the ingredients in their sauces. Service sure has gone down since we were here last. Came by this morning basically when they opened and no one else was there. For 10 pieces of Nigiri Sushi, you would think that would come out quickly, it took SO long, maybe like a 20 min wait?? So odd since there was literally no one else there.. we ordered to go for this small meal (luckily had other food but needed this for reference on keycap making). Delicious sushi which is why I haven't lowered my rating so drastically but I think my biggest gripe is the tipping system. Pay attention to your receipts!! My bf paid and decided to tip with some cash he had, not much but a little something, even if it was a To-Go order. He gets the receipt and there's an AUTOMATIC 10% tip for to-go orders. Mind boggling and they don't even tell you beforehand so that's not cool. The only reason we decided to come here was just because we were running early errands and this was the only one close enough that opened that early (11:30am). The TOKYO COMBO was good deal for under $25 with a miso soup, the Benji roll, and 4 pieces of nigiri. Not too much food but filling enough for lunch. I was very disappointed with a recent takeout order. I ordered a salmon salad and the Rock and Roll roll. While the salmon salad was acceptable in portion and value, the Rock and Roll roll, priced at $17.95, fell far short of expectations. The roll pieces were quite small, roughly an inch and a half in diameter, with only six pieces total. More concerning was the lack of actual fish. Despite being advertised as containing salmon, albacore, and tuna, the roll consisted almost entirely of imitation crab mixture, with only a very minimal amount of the fish mentioned. It tasted more like a basic California roll with a hint of fish as an afterthought. I felt genuinely disappointed and overcharged. The overwhelming flavor and texture came from the crab mixture rather than the fish that was advertised. My family has been a customer of here for almost 20 years. It's the best sushi spot in Granada hills and now with their remodel, you feel like you're in Tokyo Japan. I'd recommend trying it out if you haven't before. Then I noticed a table where our stroller can fit. Our family has been loyal customers of Asahi Sushi for over a decade. My mom has always loved this place and regularly orders her favorite: the sashimi salad. A year or two ago, I had a not-so-fishy-but-definitely-fishy experience myself. I ordered our usual go-to salad, and let's just say--freshness was not invited to the party. I didn't leave a review back then because of my mom. I stayed quiet and occasionally ordered takeout for her--though I personally stayed on a Asahi sabbatical. On 7/17/25, she placed her usual order. The raw fish was fine, but the lettuce? Not even close. Halfway through, it was soggy, slimy, and tasted days old--like it had been prepped and forgotten in a fridge over the weekend. She politely let the waiter know something wasn't right. He took it to the kitchen, and the chef's response? She needed to pay for half... because she had eaten the first (decent) half. I imagine by her upset and shocked reaction, they didn't end up charging her for it. She ended up rushing to the bathroom by the time she got home --definitely not the kind of "loyalty reward" we were hoping for. It's not about the money. We have been ordering from here for years. Never had a problem. Now though? Never again. Prices are the same but serving sizes are more than half of what they used to be. I understand tariffs and inflation but before a piece of sushi was nearly 2 bites but now it's barely even one. Same for the tuna roll and spider rolls. Extremely thin cut and covered with a way too much crunch powder to disguise how little roll there was. The pictures show full rolls and sushi but what you get isn't even close. Too bad because we did love this place before. I'd rather they charge more and provide what they used to instead of what we received. She took us to the backside, which would be like their covered patio area not that well ventilated and she wanted to sit next to a table with children. You know There were plenty of booths On our way to that area that we're available and open and much more air conditioned I don't understand why she chose to sit us next to a family with children and in the patio area when we didn't specifically request a patio area. Unfortunately, that kind of set the tone for how our experience was going to be here Asahi. Our server came over, and checked in on us. We placed our drink order. We took a look at the menu quite frankly it's very overwhelming. There's too much going on. I would simplify the menu just because yeah it's it doesn't make it seem like very enticing. I don't wanna see that what I noticed is that they've breathed their prices and quite significantly from the last time I was there. Also, they did do some major renovations. I noticed that they made it more Japanese infusion, and so maybe that justifies a raising in prices. So we place our order the server repeated it back to us. Nothing wrong there. We got our order relatively soon. Everything tasted great.
