Everyone was super helpful from the moment we stepped in. This is a hidden gem in the valley. From the outside I did not expect the interior to look so nice and Japanese style. We were looking for a sushi spot after my boys event in Granada hills and this spot has a lot of reviews. As soon as we got here I realized I have been here maybe a couple of years ago. The wait time on a Friday night after 9am was still about 15+ minutes. First thing I noticed was their menus. It's the same template as Koppan Ramen. When we got seated I also noticed the seats/booths are the same. Maybe they used the same designer. Onto the food, my son is in his unagi phase so he got the unagi hand roll and unagi sushi, I got the calamari and soft shell crab to share, my other son got the mini negi toro don and Benjie roll. I got the Snow White roll, halibut and yellow tail roll. Loved the soft shell and the mini toro don. Price was pretty good. Our server Louis was attentive and nice. I flagged another server to check on my order and he got a bit of attitude so docked a star for that. Met a friend for lunch and we ended up at Asahi honestly, such a solid choice. They have a great selection of lunch specials, and I went with the late lunch box. It came with miso soup, a fresh salad, a sushi roll, and your choice of protein and rice perfectly portioned and super satisfying. Naturally, we couldn't pass up a tall glass of Hite to go with it . My friend has eaten here plenty of times and recommended it to me. I met her for lunch and today was my first time dining here. There was no wait at all and parking was easy (plenty of parking spaces in the parking lot... no charge). There's a very classy but cozy vibe to the ambiance, staff is welcoming and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious! I really loved the spicy garlic edamame and out of all the rolls we ordered, the Pink Lady was my favorite. It's a really nice, clean little place, and overall, the food is pretty good. I've been here several times and honestly can't complain about the sushi or the food in general. The prices are pretty normal, and the staff has always been nice and attentive. However, the last two times I've been here, it has been RIDICULOUSLY cold inside!!! And I mean FREEZING It's so cold that you can't comfortably sit and enjoy your meal. The last time, we literally had to go out to the car to get jackets, and we were still cold when we came back in. What makes it even more frustrating is that it starts to feel like they intentionally keep it that cold to discourage people from sitting around too long. I've also noticed that when you've been sitting there for a while, employees start staring you down, which gives you the impression that they want you to hurry up and leave. It's unfortunate because I actually like the food and the restaurant itself. But if I'm paying to eat somewhere, I'd like to be comfortable enough to actually sit, eat, and enjoy my meal without freezing or feeling like I'm being watched for staying too long. read more

The restaurant is visually pretty, nice atmosphere but it ends there. We stood at the front for a few minutes before being greeted or even acknowledged. First clue. We were seated within 5 mins. This was our first visit here, an after work impulse dinner with a colleague. We each ordered two rolls which took a while but they were busy so I get it. The 4th roll came out much later....cucumber with fish inside, no rice so why did that take so long? They left out the soft shell crab on one roll which we did not catch right away. This was our first time here and we thought that we had mixed up the rolls. We simply informed the waitress, never asked for anything but let her know that the black spider roll appeared to have been something else. She agreed that it was possible. The side sauce also never arrived. She said she we going to bring it. Um, when? LOL. We ate it but just let her know after the fact. She responded by saying that the owner was not in so she could not access, review the cameras to see if the chef actually missed the crab. Interesting. We said we don't really care at this point and she kept coming back telling us what the chef said, assured us that this was unlikely and tried to tell us what soft shell crab looks like. Eyeroll. The roll also had NO sauce or gobo which she stated that it should have. Ultimately she came to the conclusion on her own that she would remove it from the check after all of that. We were not trying to scam anyone and we held on to the menu after ordering the first two thinking we would order more however it was not good so we stopped there. We spent another 30 minutes waiting for the check from Woo, our server. Brought wrong check. We went to the front, it was corrected 10 minutes later. As for the quality, it was such a small amount of fish it was astounding. They prepared the rolls in such a way that there was a double layer of rice which I peeled off. I have never had sushi rolled back twice with two layers of rice. More rice than fish. Even the cucumber roll was mostly cucumber. WTH. The prices are on the higher side which would not be an issue if they had not skimped on the fish. Service was slow, food was meh and messy. Poor first impression. We will not return. There is a sushi place across the street which has better quality for the price. We simply wanted to try a new spot since we work a block away. Delicious sushi which is why I haven't lowered my rating so drastically but I think my biggest gripe is the tipping system. Pay attention to your receipts!! My bf paid and decided to tip with some cash he had, not much but a little something, even if it was a To-Go order. He gets the receipt and there's an AUTOMATIC 10% tip for to-go orders. Mind boggling and they don't even tell you beforehand so that's not cool. The only reason we decided to come here was just because we were running early errands and this was the only one close enough that opened that early (11:30am). I was very disappointed with a recent takeout order. I ordered a salmon salad and the Rock and Roll roll. While the salmon salad was acceptable in portion and value, the Rock and Roll roll, priced at $17.95, fell far short of expectations. The roll pieces were quite small, roughly an inch and a half in diameter, with only six pieces total. More concerning was the lack of actual fish. Despite being advertised as containing salmon, albacore, and tuna, the roll consisted almost entirely of imitation crab mixture, with only a very minimal amount of the fish mentioned. It tasted more like a basic California roll with a hint of fish as an afterthought. I felt genuinely disappointed and overcharged. The overwhelming flavor and texture came from the crab mixture rather than the fish that was advertised. I hope you will take this feedback seriously, as this experience did not reflect the quality I expected for the price. read more
