Great place I came across as I was thinking about where to eat before watching a movie. Very friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the salmon blue crab truffle, spicy tuna on rice cake, and salmon skin hand roll. You really get such a terrific portion with what you order. I look forward to coming back.

The food was good, the service was decent, and its an overall nice little spot to go to. It was also clean which is always a plus. I wouldn't call it exceptional but I also wouldn't say it was bad. We ordered an appetizer, three different rolls, a baked roll, and sushi/sashimi. The chicken Karaage was amazing! The Canadian roll was good, it had a nice balance of the jalapeño sauce which added some acidity to the food. The Jessica Alba roll was underwhelming, I was not crazy about it, I felt it lacked body. The Shrimp-trio was also good but lacked freshness. The Volcano roll was good, it sort of tasted like a whopper, it probably had to do with the mayo, but the baked salmon was great. Then, the black snapper sashimi was interesting because it comes with truffle and scallions and although good, lacked a certain freshness I am used to with the sushi. I also had a Sapporo which was crisp. Overall good spot to visit and reasonably priced.

This place was perfect! Fresh food. Quick service. GET THE OG! It was soooo good. Will definitely be back. Ps. You get 50% off a sake of a train passed by.

I brought my friend here for her birthday. It was a Friday night. We came here a little early. Not crowded at all. Our food came out pretty quickly. Not sure if this was the owner or the manager but she made sure to approach every table and ask how everything was going. I thought that was very sweet. It did get a little loud towards the end of our meal but we did not mind it all. Prices were reasonable. And the food was fresh was delicious. There's plenty of parking in the front. I will definitely be coming back

Many moons ago I would go here for lunch. I stopped by and noticed the original owners were no longer there. I missed hearing her. However, the food didn't disappoint. The waiter gave a recommendation of the albacore lovers roll. This roll is incredible! The place is still nice and clean and cozy . Check them out and support them.

Excellent service! All the food we ordered were sooo good. Yum! Will be going back again for sure.

Salmon and yellowtail sushi

Excellent quality sushi! Highly recommend. Ordered yellowtail, salmon, ikura and tamago. Also ordered rainbow roll. Everything was very good esp their salmon and yellowtail. The rainbow roll isn't traditional in that there is a sauce over it. It still tasted good but if you want a traditional rainbow roll then ask for it without the sauce.

Amazing customer service. The inside decor reminds me of being in a family own sushi spot in Japan. The food quality is amazing. They have happy hour drink specials

I was surprised to come in for lunch and learn that the original owners had retired. Admittedly, I felt a bit dubious about whether the experience would still hold up. The exterior had been remodeled to feature large, vibrant images of sushi, while the interior remained largely the same. We were greeted warmly and sat at the sushi bar. As expected, the menu had been updated, but I was happy to see some old favorites still available: yanagi roll, mexican roll, jessica alba roll. I was curious about the featured items on the board. The sushi chef handed me my first order--the scallop carpaccio with honey yuzu--and simply said, "No soy sauce needed." In my head, I thought, we shall see. You know that scene in Ratatouille where Remy describes every flavor in a dish? That was me. My mouth was experiencing an explosion of flavors, with a perfect burst of lemon tying it all together. It was phenomenal. We ordered another because it was just that good. And he was correct, soy sauce was not needed nor was it used. We also tried the crunchy eel and blue crab roll, which was equally delicious. Honestly, writing about it now makes me wish I could go back already. I'll definitely be making the effort to visit more often! And hey, the price has gone up compared to the past but the reality is the price of everything has gone up and inevitably it will trickle down. But if the quality is top notch, it's worth it.

My family and I have driven by this spot for years, but usually frequent another local spot. We came in when our usual place was closed, and our experience was so positive that we have since come back to Yanagi, and it's now in our rotation for sushi spots! I really love that the price is right, and the quality is fantastic. Yanagi is situated in a strip mall, and there is a decent sized lot that shares spaces with the other businesses. Be sure to double check signage before you park since some of the spots are designated for specific businesses or have time limits. Inside, there are 10-12 counter seats, and around 10 tables that can be configured for groups between 2-8 people. The space is clean, and the service is wonderful-Kris in particular was really friendly and gave us some great recommendations. - Yellowtail Carpaccio (Yellowtail sashimi with sliced jalapeno served with half ponzu and yuzu with a hint of sriracha): a wonderful appetizer-their yellowtail has great flavor and the ponzu/yuzu combination is mouthwatering. - 911 Roll (Spicy tuna & cucumber, topped with avocado, habanero sauce): fairly standard roll, but delicious and great to share since it comes with eight pieces. - Rising Yellowtail Roll (Spicy tuna topped with yellowtail, cilantro, green onion): One of my favorites! I loved the cilantro and yellowtail together and this roll tasted really fresh and bright. - Sexy Roll (Spicy shrimp, avocado, cucumber, topped with salmon, chili oil & sesame oil): All of the flavors were working for me here-the spicy shrimp was less mushy than the spicy tuna, and the pieces of salmon on top were thick and buttery. This one is wrapped in soy paper! - Sashimi (Chef's Choice, 12 piece): Super fresh and has large pieces; this really showcases the quality of the fish. - Gyoza (Beef & Pork): flavorful, not super greasy, and perfect to share! Definitely looking forward to coming back to Yanagi! Instagram: @waitingtoeat

Baked mussels

It's not exceptional but it's affordable and the staff is super friendly. This would be the perfect place for someone just testing their waters with sushi and have yet to be spoiled by the more refined sushi restaurants out there. I ordered the baked mussels, golden tiger roll, golden spicy roll, super Philly roll and albacore sushi. My favorite was the golden spicy roll.

We were greeted right away and seated quickly. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday night after 9 pm, but after trying the food and experiencing the great customer service, I can see why. They offer all you can eat options, but we decided to order a few items instead so we could try things at our own pace. From the outside it does not look very big, but inside there are plenty of tables along with a small bar area with a few stools. We each tried a roll, and both were well made and fresh. The Fire Kiss roll had a nice balance of heat and flavor without being overwhelming, and the texture was on point. The salmon sashimi was fresh and clean tasting, although the slices were a bit thinner than what I have had at other spots. Overall, the quality, flavor, and service made it a solid late night option. I would come back to try more of their specialty rolls and possibly go for the all you can eat option next time.

Got here around 4ish (while still in happy hour time) and ordered everything off the HH menu. Everything was really good, made to order and fresh. ** they have gluten free soy sauce (you just have to ask). Walked in for dinner and literally waited for four minutes before someone greeted my party or even offered to take down our names to be seated. It wasn't too loud since the restaurant was at half capacity. Has a nice modern Ish theme in the dining area. The menu is pretty straightforward, you get a double sided menu with pictures and a separate paper to write down which items you'd like. The quality of the fish was decent however the Nigiri has way too much rice for the size of the fish. I've eaten a lot of sushi, restaurants, and I've never had sushi rice that was as dry. This could all just be an off day, but do not think I will be coming back for any reason.

This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :)
