My girlfriend and I are certified sushi lovers, and since we're always next door to Sushi Raw, we finally decided to trust our intuition and give it a shot. Safe to say... our sushi craving paid off. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted right away -- always a great sign when you're about to eat raw fish. The ambiance is modern and sleek, with dark wood tables and TVs throughout, giving it a clean but relaxed vibe. Service was fair overall. Our waitress was friendly, just not quite as attentive as we typically expect at a sushi spot. Nothing terrible -- just noticeable. Now let's talk about what matters: the food. We ordered three rolls: Hot Night (tempura roll) - Shrimp tempura with spicy tuna inside, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce on the side. Absolute banger. The sauces added the perfect touch without overpowering the roll. Orange Roll - Salmon on top with spicy crab inside. We don't usually go for spicy crab, but this one changed our minds. The salmon tasted fresh and clean, and the crab mix wasn't drowned in mayo -- huge plus. Hush Roll - Spicy tuna inside, topped with shrimp and albacore, finished with ponzu. This might've been my favorite. Super fresh, balanced, and flavorful. The slightly sweet shrimp paired perfectly with the albacore and ponzu. If you could've seen my face after that first bite... pure joy. Quality-wise, the fish was on point. Everything tasted fresh, and the combinations worked really well together. Now for the only downside -- price. Each roll was $17, so about $55 after tax for three rolls. Considering spicy tuna and crab aren't premium ingredients, it did feel slightly overpriced. That said, the quality was there. Is it the most mind-blowing sushi I've ever had? No. Was it delicious and satisfying? Absolutely. Will it replace our favorite spot? Probably not. It's good. The fish is good, of this was anywhere other than Los Angeles it would be excellent. However, it is in Los Angeles and there are way too many great sushi restaurants to compare to it. The fish fresh? Yes. Cut well? Big yes, but not the best. The service was weird and slow. They charged $1 for chili oil that should have been on the roll. That was annoying. They offer a wide selection of lunch and dinner specials, cut rolls, hand rolls, and more. This sushi spot ALWAYS comes through!! It's never packed but always a steady flow of customers coming and going, and you can see lots of to go orders being packed and picked up by delivery drivers. Food is always great, and always comes with excellent customer service. Establishment is very clean every time we come here and you always see someone cleaning table and floor after someone leaves their table. Prices are comparable to other sushi spots around here. 1 Star I don't know how many times I have to say it--no mayonnaise in my food. Yet again, they won't accommodate such a basic request. It's not rocket science, it's a condiment. They're running a special on oysters, but can't even tell you what kind they are. Spoiler alert: they're frozen, not fresh--and definitely not worth the price. Ordered the teriyaki bowl for my son and it tastes like it went straight from the freezer into a microwave. Absolutely no seasoning--just a generic teriyaki sauce lazily squirted on top. I'll give the server some credit--he tried to make things right. But you can only do so much when the restaurant itself doesn't care to accommodate from the ground up. To top it all off, they've got frozen tuna sitting in the case, being sold at fresh tuna prices. That's just dishonest. The salmon is definitely fishy. And not fresh. What a terrible experience!!! Was up to getting out to a quiet bite on a Sunday afternoon. Been here many times over the years. We sat at the bar and ordered. And as I suspected, it was quiet, there was only two patrons in the place. Upon our food arriving, one of the plates was sitting on top of their plastic menu, and while I was in mid dip of taking my FIRST bite, the older waitress (there were only two on shift and I don't want the wrong one attached to this horrible behavior) came up and said excuse me I need to take that menu away right now. Almost as if worried that soy sauce was gonna get on the laminated menu. So I'm now holding up my arm, elbow awkwardly out so she could navigate over me to move three things to get to the menu underneath. I was literally in shock that she didn't even let me take my bite, it was so unnecessary and bizarre. It was not like there was a packed house and they were short on menu's, or it was some white embossed leather menu the was in jeopardy of getting stained. It was one of many plastic laminated menus. She then proceeded to be just a nuisance. She propped herself up seats away from us speaking very loudly and suddenly not in english to the sushi chef while shooting me dirty looks and laughing. It was clear she was finding enjoyment from trying to ruin the experience of paying customers. I considered she might be the owner, and I wanted to be clear before leaving this review because if she were the owner, she wouldn't really care if this review was made based off of that behavior. So I asked our waitress to come over (who was a sweet girl with long hair and a ponytail), I wanted to ask her if the older lady was the owner and she confirmed that she was not. I proceeded to tell our waitress why I was asking, as that I was going to leave a review. I just wanted to make sure our waitress didn't get in trouble for behavior that she didn't do. Upon the rude older waitress, seeing me talk to our waitress, she immediately wanted to know what we were asking our waitress and pulled our waitress away to inquire, it was evident our waitress only spoke English. Once our waitress informed her that I was going to leave a Yelp and Google review the rude waitress instantly kept her distance. Sadly the damage was done and ruined the experience. This was absolutely the worst experience I've EVER had dining, and I've been out a lot! I understand people have bad days, but this was actually deliberate disgusting behavior. I don't know if the owners of this restaurant care but if they do, they should know how employees act and represent their establishment. I could not get the name of the older lady, so I am uploading two photos of us being here, and receipt to show the time and the date stamp so Yelp and Google won't have to take this down and the owners may confirm the older female employee that was staffed on this date at this time. In this day and age with so many peoples funds being tight, and lives being busy, escaping for a nice dining experience should not be met with terrible customer service. Good customer service and experience should be paramount. We will never go back there again and will definitely share this experience as well. Bad employees, ruin good businesses. read more

I have been to this sushi spot twice, and ordered several times via app delivery services, and every time the food (and service for dine-in) is great! They have a rather large menu focused more on sushi rolls, than nigiri, or sashimi, but can accommodate requests for some off-menu items upon request. The interior is beautiful with some partitioned booth-like seating, dimly lit, and certainly makes you forget you're in a strip mall. There's ample parking outside, and rarely have I seen it super packed, so I've always been able to grab a table. This most recent visit I opted to try their 2 item bento lunch special, and chose the spicy tuna roll (a generous 8 pieces of deliciousness), and teriyaki chicken, also served with miso, rice, and a beautifully plated side salad - all for around $21 bucks! After not coming to Sushi Raw since pre-covid I returned with my family this weekend, as we were all craving Sushi. I love the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant - a lot of sushi places are very "modern" in their design these days, but Sushi Raw feels more intimate. The service is very good; the food came out quickly and the waiter was attentive. Although the quality of the sushi was excellent, I do unfortunately have to deduct a star from my previous review. The prices have gone up substantially and the rolls and combos no longer come with the daikon salad that you see picture in my previous review. Additionally, the tempura rolls used to come with a few extra pieces of tempura, which was such a nice touch - this is no longer the case. A lot of their prices felt unreasonably high when compared to other restaurants in the area; $10 for a cucumber (sunomono) salad and $4.50 for a soft drink (iced tea). I also noticed that their menu does not include all the rolls available; if you look at the sushi roll combo part of the menu, they list choices of albacore and salmon tempura roll. However, those two rolls are not listed on the menu that details all of the rolls. They also gave us the little take out menus to order off of, which felt cheap. I had to ask for the separate menu of a la carte sushi, sashimi, and basic cut rolls. I wanted to order a salmon avocado roll but they wanted an extra $3.00 to add avocado to the roll, which I felt was ridiculous. Although the food was delicious and we have always loved coming here, the meal felt overpriced to us for what we got and in comparison to other places in the general area. read more

Sad to leave this review after about a year going there. The food is a good value and one of the servers is very nice. Unfortunately the service today was just too atrocious to return. I initially ordered take out, same order as always but then I had a meeting cancelled after I placed the order. Thinking nothing of it, I asked to eat at the restaurant on the pick up. The asian hostess/manager who took my card seemed a little edgy about it for some reason. In any case they let me sit down in their completely EMPTY restaurant. In good faith, I tipped 18% because I was dining in. In fact I always tip on the take out orders. After I neatly consolidated my containers, I received a condescending lecture about how I can never sit down on a take out order again so "nothing happens." Uh like what would happen? I got a cold "we appreciate your patronage" disclaimer a couple times as the server made no sense scolding me like a child while the asian manager looked on approvingly. What the F is wrong with the maker for a spider roll. It was all primarily over stuffed w mayo crab mix. Disgusting. I wasted $17 on that trash roll and its memory of how awful this roll was led me to a random review back here. 3* for the decent curry and bento box; but how you can call your business sushi anything when the sushi is this bad. The restaurant is a bit dim but the decor is nice. The sushi is delicious and usual price for sushi. The service could use some improvement. We didn't know who are waiter/ waitress was. One took the order and a few others brought out the plates. They all walk in one direction, out of the kitchen pass by where all the diners are sitting and circle around to the side with no tables. You could never get assistance. I had to ask for more ginger, spicy mustard, and my fourth plate which they said we did not order. By the time that plate came, our food has already settled. First timer here. There were maybe two customers inside. I was on my lunch break and initially wanted to take my sushi to go. Since the sushi was ready earlier, I thought I'd stay in and eat there instead. The front lady tells me I need to leave and not eat there. We had a handful of items, and some beer, and some sake...mmmmmm! * Garlic Edamame [$4.99, 4.0 stars] -- delicious but small portion. Better if more charred with sesame seeds sprinkled atop. * Side Salad [$3.50, 5.0 stars] -- couldn't have been any better, the dressing, especially, was simply the best on the planet. * Lobster Roll [$14.99, 5.0 stars] -- not lobster, but mini baked crawfish meat & mushroom. OMG. Incredible. * Blue Ocean Roll [$16.99, 4.5 stars] -- Blue crab on top of spicy tuna roll w/spicy mayo. Really good, but concedes to the lobster roll. * Shrimp Tempura Roll [$10.99, 3.5 stars] -- Avocado, crab meat, cucumber w/ shrimp tempura & mayo and eel sauce. Well executed, but boring as hell. This is located a little over 2 miles from my office. It's in a big plaza so there is plenty of parking. I don't know why I have never thought about coming here for lunchtime. I guess because when you have only an hour for lunch, your thoughts of a sit down might not be fast enough. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong about that. LOL Got here exactly a little after 12 noon and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. My bestie and I both ordered the sushi lunch specials which comes with miso soup. Please see attached pictures. :) It was great that our food came pretty quick, and I didn't feel rushed to eat and go back to the office. Yes! That is a great plus. The sushi was good, fresh, and very fulfilling. I also appreciated the very attentive staff. I can't wait to come back here for lunch. Celebrating my friends 50th birthday dinner, and she choose this establishment. I will say it has been a year and half of not actually having sushi or even eating at a sit down restaurant. This place is so freaking delicious. we ordered about 6 rolls plus a order of baked green mussels for two people, we put it down that is for sure. All rolls came out in a timely manner and nothing was bad, they do know how to make a delicious yummy rolls. I love spicy so we went with Hot Green Roll, Honey Roll, Hot Night Roll and the famous Philadelphia Roll. At every bite we had a great portion of sushi, the green baked mussels were a nice size as well. Hope to return and have another great dinner here. read more

I was in the area and decided to get some sushi. I had never been here and the reviews and stars looked great, despite all the homeless in the area. It was located inside a plaza and there was no wait line. Taking a peek inside and seeing less people made me hesitant to go in but I decided to give this place a go away. I am glad I put all other stuff aside and tried this place as the sushi here was delicious. This place is now on top of my sushi places to go to. The service was great as the waiter kept checking on us and took out order promptly when we said we were ready. I was in bit of a time crunch but the waiter and the sushi chefs were all great at preparing the sushi fast ( I didn't mention that we were in a hurry). I loved their shishito peppers. You might think that hey, its fried peppers, how can anyone mess that up, but it happens. I have had shishito peppers are other restaurants that I would never get from, but we shall keep them nameless. The flavoring was on point and fried just right. From the rolls, I loved the mystic. It had spicy tuna, maybe that's why but it tasted great. I never had spicy albacore before and was looking forward to that. I love spicy, so anything spicy looked good for me. Can't go wrong with avocado right? It added a nice soothing flavor to the whole roll. It was topped with popcorn lobster, which I never had before. The whole combination was great. The sushi was not chewy at all and it had a nice crunch due to the popcorn lobster. The Hot Night Roll was also another one i enjoyed. I usually don't like tempura anything especially inside of sushi but It played well with this roll. It came with a sauce on the side of the dish. The sauce made it taste so much better. Again with the spicy tuna on the roll , I had to order despite the tempura. If I am ever in the area and go back here, the top two rolls will most defiantly be something I get. We also got the yellow tail delight. This sushi is not wrapped in seaweed or soy paper. I love my sushi to be wrapped and was not a big fan on this sushi. Either I didn't like it much because of the lack of seaweed or I was full. It has got many great fish on there that one would love and it had a nicer less heavier feel to it but it didn't make a big fan out of me. If you want something with more flavor I'd go with the top two, this sushi I feel was a little bit more bland. I enjoyed the sushi here and I think it is a great stop to just kick back and relax as it seemed like a nice quiet place. Surprised they didn't have more customers but maybe that will change after this whole covid restrictions are over.
